i finally got the time to watch love is better the second time around and im not at all shocked that im obsessed with the adult second chance at love jbl - have you met me.

but it also needs to be known that shiraishi is my beloved, the actor plays this role so perfectly and i want my bitchy sad gay to find true love

#love is better the second time around #also i adore the mains a whole fucking lot #iwagawa is the perfect mix of pathetic and desperate veiled in cocky and sophisticated #and miyata’s character is just a gem like the way he has transformed from his younger self is so refreshing to see #like this is a kid that was so pure and sweet and open and when he believed that all got trampled on he didn’t let it go to the extreme of #becoming hard and emotionless instead he really has just matured into an adult that actually cares for and values himself #like that hurt made him feel worthless but now he knows he isn’t worthless #like he internalised it through the way he protects himself from others but he does it both to not feel that hurt again but also bc he #thinks well of himself and i just adore the fact we get to see a timid kid grow into someone with self-respect it’s so cool and refreshing #and even when it comes at his detriment bc he won’t let himself believe iwagawa is being honest or that he’s ever been - that it’s all just #a joke or teasing or whatever it’s not frustrating bc you both get where it comes from but also feel like you can support him pushing him #away bc he does it for himself and for the person he’s become #so like… to watch a show where you’re both deeply rooting for the couple but also support when they push each other away… idk how they did #it but they did. the premise is simple and the show is simple but every moment and interaction is electric and thrilling and that’s the kind #of show i love. one that can convey how seemingly interactions are full of tension and stakes for these people. it’s so hard to convey that #but this show nails it and i just can’t get enough now.

#Am i evil for wanting to sacrifice pa kent sometimes #love him hes great hes done his job with clark #but i always toyed with the idea of clark getting grief for development later in life #i dont think any of his adoptive parents should die well into him being an established superman #but what i do think is one of his parents dying would do him a service in his later years character wise #pa kent is generally agreed upon to be the most sacrificial ( sorry pa kent.. )#a time in clarks life where his father is gone and he just has his mother to look after seems like it would be #a refreshing pov for him to remember what he has left in this world...#there are all sorts of iterations btw. some where both parents die at the same time from tragedy (car crash)#or where one dies #i personally love superman: braniac where clark fails to save his father as a young superman #which shows him..not even a superman can save everyone - a rude awakening. so its just him and his mother.#while i do think of making the braniac origin my canon definitively i also love the pa kent interactions w clarks league friends #like that one time batman visited and they chatted was nice ( standing )#we will see! will probably sacrifice pa kent i mean if a comic origin story did it + a movie i meannnn.#but that means i would have to rework how clark comes back 2 life in death of su.perman #also last point here: clarks a mamas boy i love him being the young son taking care of his ma ( sighs wistfully at MOS scenes when he visit

maybe it's to maintain a sense of tension & turmoil that would eventually reach an explosive peak, a sense of tug-of-war, a back-and-forth to hammer home the ideals they want to deliver and for the viewers to chew on, but although these arguments regarding hiroshi & his stance as a man torn between his loyalty for his country & the loyalty for his Filipino friends and lover is of course important, how they write these scenes & the points they present from this week alone is getting too repetitive...? literally the argument scenes from last night & tonight between adelina & hiroshi is basically the same; the ideas were the same, the dynamics were the same: the aggressive, radical adelina, bristling rage and fear over the injustices she's seen thus far, and the cautious, inspiriting hiroshi, all hopefulness and reassurance one moment as a lover, defensiveness and sternness as a japanese soldier in another. this debate will be ever-present ofc, it is one of the series' biggest conflicts, but it is unfortunately so easy to tell when it is a.) being pulled up as a main topic to move the plot along / be a necessary conflict for character development/introspection / be the conflict to deliver the morals & messages the writers want to send to their viewers, or b.) when it is being pulled up only for the drama and filler to pass the time. like watching the characters sit down to argue for 10 minutes, do other things for the plot for 2 minutes, then sit down again to argue for the next 20 minutes. lol.

#lots of things i wish they would soon improve but this 1 bothered me tonight..stopped watching halfway thru #these scenes would be like excellent breaks for when we need to take a breather to digest what's been going on #but at the slow pace they've set it it's just...nothing's been going on since like...4 days ago #except for eduardo's plot #it's just arguments..everywhere....all the time....over the same repetitive things #no progress nothing new to chew on despite there being drastic changes to their situation...? same vibes from the time they weren't occupie #yet lol. same dynamics mostly #only new points of debate is regarding hiroshi & his country vs friends conflict #& carmela being desperate to go back to comfort & luxury vs her family standing as firm as they could against the occupation #ahhh i am sooo not eloquent enough to express my full thoughts but like!!! fellow viewers if y'all r here u understand me right lmfoskadhsg #finding it hard to criticize bc i'm trying to make sense of where they r coming from #a.) seeing as unlike mcai this is a complete original story it's hard to see what direction they'd like to take it to #b.) fil shows really find it hard to break away from their normal formulas of family dramas & bastard children & love triangles :'))))#god the opportunity to tell a refreshing diff story but this is like gma show 67627627th but set in the japanese era....then mixed with 50%#of the mcai show feel #the editing the visuals the acting = good. 60% of the story line = can be compared to the hundreds of gma shows we've seen be4 #anywy going off on a tangent...#c.) i can understand the slow pacing as them trying to establish the settings & the feel of that era so that the more intense tragedies-#later on would hit harder #but again. few scenes feel like they're dragging on for too long. some scenes & themes r too repetitive #need to see something differenttt something fresh something developing. something moving & feeling & connecting w/the audience #need to see more of the Philippines & the Filipino people in the 40s!! not the same afternoon prime drama shot in intramuros #need to see their messages staring into our souls instead of just being words uttered in tears #all this to say....flop era this week tbh sorry #EXCEPT FOR MAX COLLINS & HER LIKE. 3 MINS SCREEN TIME. i feel like reading/watching mbf immediately means knowing who i am as a person and... i cannot allow this

3.5 hours of sleep does crazy things to ones brain and by that I mean. Murderbot gender thoughts

#I need to sleep so I can actually DO THINGS tomorrow #[I typed some stuff here but I hated it and deleted it]#and also (like as an it/its user) its very refreshing to see a character who’s gender is just like. don’t care.#and have the lack of care be a tangible stated thing #like its definitely GOOD to have books with trans/non-binary charactwrs where gender is discussed more explicitly #but they always just make me feel vaguely uncomfortable lmao??#so it is nice to have a character who is STATED in the text not to have a gender #but to not have it be a whole big elaborated upon beating dead horse gender discussion #it doesn’t care. that’s it. it uses these pronouns because it does not feel any connection to human gender and doesn’t WANT to #I’m definitely not analyzing this as deeply or as well as other people can for many reasons (one being. I am on 3.4 hours of sleep at 1am)#but just as a genderless person it feels very natural and comfortable to read #it’s the sort of thing where yes if it got discussed more plainly in text then maybe it wouldn’t get misgendered #but 1) it is already so obvious and 2) it won’t even talk about it’s FEELINGS #it explicitly says it doesn’t care about gender at ALL. in what world is MB going to have an in-depth talk about it’s identity like that #also idk I think it’s interesting to have it humanized in ways other than ‘we gave it human gender’ you know. feels like a cop out.#have it fuck up big time like an actual person

iirc episode 6 of s1 of the bear is the closest we get to acknowledging Le Gentrification. that's a pretty central theme of that episode obviously, though its done through richie kind of losing his place in the world as it constantly changes and dies around him. his conflict with that change is extremely visible in how he relates to sydney, which i think kind of muddles that theme a bit? sydney's treatment by richie (and carmy, though i haven't seen that discussed as much) feels incrediblyyyyy racialized and his war against her gets combined with his fear of everything around him changing. when he goes through his character development moment in s2, he finds that he actually fits in beautifully with the newly whitewashed Bear and he's able to start cooperating better with sydney as well, and its like...hm. his conflict. in episode 6. that fear of change. its shown as largely a personal issue and causes him to butt heads with sydney and to call the cops on her handiwork later on. its hard for me to express in a more coherent way but it feels like the show is conflating his issues with the bigotry he later attempts to unlearn and we see him improving and growing on both fronts through how he adapts to the fine dining atmosphere. and this is an interesting vehicle to show that, but it also means that the gentrification stuff is kind of just hovering uncomfortably over your shoulder and i don't know if that's intentional or not. because the bear DOES show its black characters with so much love and compassion and respect for their flaws and their struggle to live in the world and be part of it and their desires and learning to strive for more than they were. it just...hm. a lot of characters realize they want Something Greater through joining the world of fine dining. which is cool! but the beef is still closed for this and there is still an existing base of people who ate there who are not going to anymore. that's a community you're losing! that's a community that you're not feeding anymore! what do the longtime employees of the beef feel about this and why is this a conflict that's mostly shown through richie's pov

#i dont think its intentional persay but conflating a resistance to gentrification/'change' more generally with richie's #overall stagnation feels like a sleight of hand that i don't care for but again i do not know if that's......conscious #the setting is a MASSIVE part of the bear at least early on the beef is very much a character there is a kind of #magic realism thing going on where the building is attuned to the workers within it very well and like #it is set in chicago and proud of that so the setting is not something to be sneezed at at least in s1 #(i have not watched s2 50000000 times like i have s1 so i may need to refresh my memory on that front)#so. ? what are we doing here. i don't think this is the focus of the show and that's fine but i am curious as to why a little bit #im hoping thats the direction s3 takes (took. have not been able to watch it yet </3) because honestly i cannot imagine #a compelling future of the show where we're just chilling replicating the environment that made carmy Like That #my analysis skills are a little rusty so i dont think this is well put or compelling but it is something i was thinking about #before i went to work and became the joker well anyway thanks for reading

#and we like. had already seen a video essay on it so we knew what happens #and yet. it still hits so hard.#and like 70% of that is the voice actibg god all the vas are incredible #like. there was so much emotion.#obviously the narrative and script were a huge part of building the characters #but it could have easily been brought down by the voice acting #yeah. such an incredible game #like the story is SO GOOD and all the characters feel so real and the setting and environment just. agh #caz's va especially was incredible just as a character caz is amazing #especially as a player character like he is regularly audibly scared out of his mind and just trying to survive and keep those close to him #alive #and every single time he fails you feel for him #idk man just such a genuinely incredible game #and so refreshing compared to like gimmicky horror ya know?#the horror of swtd is watching people you know and have close bonds with succumb to their worst traits and become violent #and of fucking up and not being able to fix it like FUCK the part where caz's first daughter is born and he says he'll never leave #her or suze like. fuuuuuck #confluence.txt

Want so badly to share my thoughts on TC and how life is strange fans LOVE to hate every LIS game to come out after the first because they can’t let Arcadia Bay go and they miss out on BEAUTIFUL storytelling because of their stubbornness and refusal to grow with the media they claim to love but I CANT because I will be ripped to shreds and have a pipe bomb in my mailbox by noon.

#people who glaze the original LIS and hate anything new to come from it gives me toxic g1 monster high fan vibes ngl #anyways I’d also like to say I think the whole ‘it doesn’t feel like a LIS game’ is both right and wrong #like of course it’s not going to feel like the first two #as Max and Daniel have physical powers that you see and get to choose when to use them #but Alex has a more mental power where she literally has no choice but to use her powers as they intrude on her everyday life 24/7 #like we got such an interesting perspective on the powers that exist in this universe and how non physical power affects its host #it doesn’t feel exactly like the other two because it ISNT and that is so fucking refreshing in my opinion #and I love it because while it doesn’t feel the same it absolutely plays the same #this is rambly and I do apologize for that #this was after my 3am mash so my brain is fried #the way LIS gets better with every game and evolves with each installment is just #mwah #chefs kiss I love it #true colors #life is strange true colors #alex chen
