Say hi to your ancestor! This is Jurm the Juramaia, and it's the main critter running an Instagram account of mine. I won't mention what it is (taking time away from social media), but just know it's a time-traveling Juramaia with the goal of learning about its descendants and teaching us about our past. I'm excited! My next drawing featuring it will also have my favorite dinosaur, so stay tuned if you wanna see what it is >:)

🔸Allosaurus fragilis🔸
cone 6 ceramic stoneware, underglaze, glaze, gold lustre
video id: A ceramic sculpture of an allosaurus, head turned to face the viewer and mouth slightly ajar with a flash of teeth. It’s body is striped in all manners of colours like the layers of sediment in the earth. Illustrated floral accents decorate it’s body and juramaia are illustrated against it’s flank. It stands on a dome shaped base with a sculpted tree between it’s arms and ribs, serving as a support, 3D branches tapering into 2D linework. Gold lustre accents it’s pupils and dots across it’s body.

So according to various evolutionary models I have seen, they pinpoint the first childbearing/birthing animal to a female shrew-like mammal in the middle Jurassic period. And Idk what the science behind that would look exactly, but it got me wondering about how the uterus evolved with that ability.
I know a lot of feminists and women’s activists argue that the uterus is not primarily a childbearing organ. But maybe we should respect the fact that it kinda is? Maybe it isn’t a sexist thing to say if it’s literally ingrained in our normal biology?
Regardless of whether you have children, a healthy and functioning uterus has health benefits of all sorts for the woman who has one. I’m not saying that if the uterus is primarily for pregnancy then you have an obligation to become pregnant. BUT, the uterus was formed before, during, and after our mammalian ancestors gained the ability to birth live offspring. That is a fact, and you know what else?
This switch from egg laying to gestation is likely what enabled our ancestors to survive the meteor strike 65 millions years ago. Little pregnant Juramaia were able to flee into caves and other safe crevices while the world burned and froze over and struggled to equalize. Countless lives of our own ancestors in turn were able to share space more effectively by not having to leave behind eggs to guard in what little room they had.
It was the childbearing purpose of the uterus that has allowed humanity to thrive and survive. This primal tradition can even be seen in historical and present day women figures fighting for changes and their own destinies while pregnant!
I’m not saying that pregnancy is all sunshine and roses, or that it should be mandatory. I’m just saying that this ancient gift should be respected, at the least, for literally and figuratively birthing us. That we should respect the power our uterus holds for our own lives, just that fact that we COULD birth and raise little humans who can change the future.
The uterus is a childbearing organ that gave us life. I am okay with that; maybe if society was too, we can make it into a new age of true equity.

Watched season 1 of T・P Bon. It's very exciting to see a new anime adaptation of a Fujiko F. Fujio series released internationally on Netflix. Based on this anime (as I've yet to read the manga), I wouldn't quite rank T・P Bon in my top 3 Fujiko F. Fujio series, but it's a pretty good watch. I suspect history buffs especially would have a fun time with it.
T・P Bon skews towards an older target demographic and gets much more graphic than Fujio's better known works, but most of the storylines end on an optimistic note.
Yes, there's a dinosaur episode. As with recent Doraemon works, the production team evidently updated the adaptation to incorporate some modern paleontological advances. Most unexpected and memorable to me is that it references Tschopp et al. (2015) on diplodocid taxonomy!
Also fun to see Mesozoic mammals represented by Juramaia, which was named in 2011.

#Archovember Day 1 - Your Choice!
In my ongoing effort to draw all the non-avian dinosaurs we know the colors of, I’ve chosen Anchiornis huxleyi!
The type species for the Anchiornithids (“near birds”), Anchiornis huxleyi was a crow-sized dinosaur living in the Late Jurassic of Liaoning, China. It was relatively common, as hundreds of specimens have been uncovered in this area. But what makes Anchiornis so unique and important is that it was the first Mesozoic dinosaur species to have its entire life appearance be known by man! Having hundreds of well-preserved fossils available allows us to extract a lot of information about not only its size and shape, but its skin, feathers, and even coloration. Anchiornis had long wing feathers on its arms and legs (though its leg feathers were not as long as those of Microraptorians), fluffy downy feathers all over its body, a feathered crest on its head, and feathers covering its feet.
Only two Anchiornis fossils have had their well-preserved melanosomes studied so far. By comparing the structure of these melanosomes to modern birds, paleontologists have been able to infer the life colors of Anchiornis! It had mostly gray and black body feathers and white forewing and hindwing feathers with black tips. Its tail colors remain unknown. The first specimen of Anchiornis to be surveyed for melanosomes also had red or rufous coloring on its crest, as well as rufous speckles on its otherwise black and gray head. However, the second specimen did not have any rufous coloration. This may be due to different preservation of melanosomes, different investigative techniques, the animals in question having regional differences or even being different species/subspecies, the second Anchiornis being younger, or sexual dimorphism.
While Anchiornis had rather large feathered forelimbs, it didn’t seem to have been much of a flier. Unlike the later Microraptorians, its wings were rounded and relatively short compared to other flying dinosaurs, and the flimsy flight feathers overlapped each other to strengthen them. A 2016 study concluded that while juvenile Anchiornis may have been able to use their wings to assist with leaping through the trees, adults were simply too heavy and their wings too small to gain any lift. Instead, it is more likely their wings were used for display. As their legs were long, they may have been adapted for speed, using their wings to aid in aerodynamics as they quickly darted through the underbrush.
Pellets (such as those coughed up by owls) have been found both within and in association with Anchiornis, and contained lizard bones and fish scales. Prey items that could have also been eaten by Anchiornis include insects, arachnids, salamanders, small anurognathids (such as Cascocauda, who we will be visiting later this month) and other small or juvenile pterosaurs, and small cynodonts like Agilodocodon and Juramaia.
Anchiornis lived alongside other Anchiornithids such as Aurornis, Caihong, Eosinopteryx, Pedopenna, Serikornis, Xiaotingia, as well as the Scansoriopterygids Yi, Scansoriopteryx, and Epidexipteryx. It also lived alongside the quilled heterodontosaurid Tianyulong.

Bro who would dare disrespect hamsters, they're one of the most similar living relatives to Juramaia, progenitors of all mammals, survivors of the K-Pg extinction event, and eventually evolved into a species that *actually* conquered the planet unlike dinosaurs, cool as they are
okay humans are born to live 100 years and be actively dying almost the entire time both physically and metaphorically in the sense of dreams and preferences and habits dying off one by one, and in the sense of living in an ongoing conscious negotiation with the inevitable but unknowable hour of their deaths, to fully understand and experience the decline of their physical capacities, sensory organs and cognitive faculties, to wither in a body of ever-narrowing ability and to finally die for real while inescapably conscious of their absolute finitude as temporal beings, but sure go ahead and dunk on hamsters, who don't even know they're alive, for being universally fated to live 6 months and then fall directly into the open mouth of a Labradoodle.
