One of my Christmas presents this year was an absolutely adorable ceramic Leo figurine. I’m unsure of the brand, as I can’t find much information on this item in Japanese. It’s very old, likely released during the original run of the first anime. (1965/1966)

I remember seeing this one come up for sale a few months ago since it was reasonably cheap. Ceramic items like these are rare to find for how old they are. They’re just not built to last. However, one of my family members was able to get it for me. They were able to get it for a good deal due to the dirt and paint loss on it, and I had fun restoring it.

I didn’t completely restore everything, as I still wanted the item to show some age, but I’m very happy with how it turned out. If anything, restoring it has made me even more attached to this present. Happy holidays, everyone!

Another fun fact no one asked for.

Panjyamon is a reference to Panja from Jungle Emperor/Kimba the White Lion.

Talking about references I was thinking if Hououmon X-Antibody is a reference to Tezuka's Phoenix, but it's probably more of an inspiration from Fenghuang myth than from Tezuka's design.

And there is also Plutomon, I think it's more the general shape that gives me that impression, but it's probably not inspired by it directly either.

I was going to use the Reference Book artworks but they are too small to see anything so too bad, using the card game, Survive and New Century arts.

Timon VS Outsiders Gun Gag Theory

INCOMING AUTISTIC RAMBLING

Sooo... y'all remember that one scene in Simba's Pride during the final battle when the Outsiders corner Timon & Pumbaa? And how they flee in terror when Timon grabs Pumbaa's tail and uses it to simulate a gun? Definitely a silly gag that seems out of nowhere and make little to no sense.

But what if there's actually more to it?

It's safe to assume that humans definitely exist in this cinematic TLK universe, given this scene implies that those Outsiders have encountered some poachers sometime in the past, and it clearly left them an even deeper scar than the Scar they worship.

Who knows, maybe that's how Zira actually got the hole in her ear. Believed to be dead, a group of poachers would hire a photographer to take a picture of their kill, but the flash would trigger her back into consciousness and attack the poachers.

That's not all though, maybe Timon in particular reminded them of a specific poacher, but who you may ask?

The character Hamegg from Osamu Tezuka's Star System, which is recurring characters he'd use in different storylines. He's a supporting antagonist in many of Tezuka's works, serving as a robot circus ringleader in the Astro Boy franchise, as well as a poacher in the Kimba the White Lion franchise.

So why him? Well... since I imagine TLK & Kimba taking place within the same universe (with Simba even meeting Kimba/Leo himself during his time in the jungle), I feel like he was hired to get rid of some man-eating Tsavo lions in an area, which would later come to be known as the Outsiders.

Also he & Timon share the same VA in the 2009 Astro Boy movie.

So a while ago on Discord my friend Jazz discovered an obscure Jungle Emperor Leo manga on the Internet Archive where apparently Laiya has a brother named Laman so I was tempted to draw the two siblings together

NEWS: A new Tezuka themed gashapon set has been revealed. This set, called "Osamu Tezuka character sitting," will be produced by Bandai. This set will release in Japan sometime in September of this year.
