Nathan and Haley are THE heart of One Tree Hill

Yeah I said it lol. There are many hearts of the show. You have the brotherly bond between Nathan and Lucas. You've got the friendship between Peyton, Brooke, and Haley. And then the romantic relationship between Nathan and Haley. But tell me... which of these is the most consistent throughout all 9 seasons of this show. Nathan and Lucas are the first heart of the show but that really mostly ended when Chad left the show at the end of S6. Brooke and Peyton are the same thing. Yeah, they were a big heart of the show but that mostly ended when Hilarie left the show at the end of S6 with Chad. Brooke and Haley are a huge heart of the show but that really only started in S3 when they became really close while being roommates.

Nathan and Haley on the other hand is a huge part of the show from their first scene together in the third episode of the whole show until the very last episode of the show. They are the heart and soul of this show. Everyone is kinda connected to them. Lucas, Peyton, Quinn, Clay most everyone is so closely knitted to their storylines. Brooke is kind of the exception. She's connected to Haley's story but she also has a lot of characters who are only connected to her like Julian, Victoria, Alex etc

The evening wind howled as Quinn dismounted his horse and tied it to a nearby fence-post. He had been riding all day, searching for his charge who had been reported absent by his friends, and was actually looking for some kind of inn to stay the night when he spotted a familiar horse not quite all the way around back behind a long since abandoned house.

Upon closer inspection, the horse was clearly Kevin's. Unbranded, but still tacked up with gear which was uniquely marked. Quinn thought Kevin knew better than to leave a horse saddled overnight. But maybe it was intentional.

Petting its snout, Quinn decided it wasn't in distress, it was clearly enjoying munching on the otherwise neglected yard, and moved for the door.

The back door opened with a creak, and Quinn switched on his torch as the fading light faded faster past the threshold. He called out for Kevin as he moved through the house, wary of inherent dangers of abandoned buildings, such as rodents and cobwebs and protruding floorboards, but also the possibility of ambush.

He found him, after not too long. Quinn opened a bedroom door to find a knife being pointed at him from across the room, and considering Kevin's demonstrated skill with throwing, he might as well have been holding a loaded gun.

Quinn's immediate instinct was to reach for his own weapon, but thought better of it before unholstering it. He raised his empty hand slowly, and loosened the grip on the light.

"Hey, Kevin, you're not in trouble. Let's put the knife down, ok?"

Kevin did lower the knife, but didn't put it away. His jaw was set, and while he wasn't putting much weight on the wall behind him, he seemed to be using it for balance. "Then stay back."

"Ok." Quinn said. "Alright, how about we sit down, hmm?"

The floor was ratty and uneven, but Quinn slowly sat, with his back against the wall, and Kevin followed less gracefully from his side of the room.

Kevin pulled the hood of his cloak further over his head as he curled in on himself, still watching Quinn. "If I'm not in trouble then why are you here?"

"Apparently, you agreed to meet with some of your friends last night and never showed. They asked if I've seen you, and I joined the search. It's kind of my job to keep tabs on you, remember?"

"Yeah, I'm aware." He started tugging on a lock of hair on the top of his head. "Does... Julian know?"

"Cassie left with a report for him when I hadn't seen you. We can send an update, but I doubt we can intercept that report at this point."

"How did you find me?"

Quinn let out a breath. "You know, we might not be friends, but I've figured out a few things about you. For one, I know you've been enjoying this arrangement far more than the alternative. You wouldn't have made an actual attempt to run, or to seem like you were, so you wouldn't be too far away."

Kevin's eyes were on the floor now, watching something Quinn couldn't see, or wasn't there.

"I don't know all the mental hangups you have, but I know you don't like crowds when you're going through it. I know you prefer little farming towns in the middle of nowhere to actual population centers. I was actually more expecting to find you in that forest a bit more northeastward, but I figured I'd check the villages out along the way."

Quinn took a deliberate pause before continuing, "And your horse was clearly visible from the road, so I figured you were close."

Kevin buried his face in his arms. "oh I knew I should have hid her better."

Quinn felt the corners of his mouth twitch. "It's okay. I know you're not fully in your right mind right now- For that matter, when was the last time you ate?"

For a moment, Quinn thought he was being ignored, before Kevin mumbled, "Breakfast. Uh, yesterday."

"In that case, how's about we get out of here, find somewhere cleaner, an inn that serves dinner?"

Kevin curled up tighter, not meeting Quinn's eyes. "Are you going to make me?"

"No, but I thought you had promised Julian to take care of yourself. Eating regularly is part of that, right?"

"Yeah. I just- I can't-"

"...Or I can go bring something here?"

"Yeah, I could do that."

GRUPO FRONTERA X CHRISTIAN NODAL - "YA PEDO QUIÉN SABE"

Nortey Dowuona: Christian Nodal and my little brother are the same age. Nodal released his first album in 2017, when my little brother was still in high school. And in 2021, when my brother graduated, Nodal introduced the United States at large to norteño/mariachi with "Botella Tras Botella." Edgar Barrera, who produced it, finally gets to work with both Grupo and Nodal. He blends Nodal’s low, thin tenor, which bellows so brightly it begins to grate, with the low, thin tenor of lead singer Payo Solis, who instead sparkles, gently riding the cresting wave of Alberto Acosta's bajo quinto, Carlos Zamora's loping bass and Carlos Guerro's gentle, nimble drums. When they blend together for the chorus, they're unstoppable, but Nodal's abortive first verse displays little of the jawdropping talent that brought him to the fore. Solis gets more time to shine, but then ably surrenders the mic to Nodal, who finally seizes his opportunity, his voice sparking to life at last, the song soaring for a brief split second, before Julian Peña Jr. ambles out from behind the congas to remind them  there are other collaborations to be done. My brother is now working in a restaurant, hopefully making better choices than Nodal is. [7]

Mark Sinker: Checking up on young Christian since we last wrote about him I see he has somewhat dedicated his life to the topic here (and indeed the topic of the previous release we discussed) = the dumb shit you do when you’re drunk. Like dialing that former someone or getting a tattoo. Christian has many tattoos, some adorable (the moon) and some inadvisable, such as his ex’s eyes indelibly depicted on his chest: ? ? ? Meanwhile the gently undulating, pulsating, staggering beat is a testament to how good stewed-you can feel as you commit further very bad choices, in that friendly bar-room space where everything seems so very delible.  [7]

Ian Mathers: Having looked up the English translation of the lyrics, I'm just going to pretend this is an extremely scathing, cross-genre, long after the fact response song to the Pet Shop Boys' "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk." [6]

John S. Quinn-Puerta: It can be difficult to hit the tone of crying in your beer just perfectly, almost too easy to drift into irony. But it's that combination of pedal steel, note-perfect accordion, and the end-of-chorus resolving couplet that truly elevate this for me. I could see myself singing along late into the night, if there was enough Don Julio to accompany me. [8]

Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Morose, lovesick men have always sung songs like this (references to Don Julio and liking old Instagram photos aside) and I suppose they always will. At least this one has some really good accordion!  [7]

Joshua Minsoo Kim: The intermittent accordion is perfect, just the right amount of sweet fluttering to provide temporary solace. Drinking your sorrows away is fine and good, but it requires a chorus like this: easy to sing along to, swinging back and forth as you get the right amount of tipsy. It captures an oscillating desire: bursting into tears and staying composed. When men are sad like this, it's often about that balance. [7]
