In 1969, Mattel did their first foray into the media tie-in doll, with two dolls released that year in pop culture likeness.

These were Truly Scrumptious from the 1968 movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and the titular Julia from the 1968 - 1971 sitcom Julia.

The Julia Barbie was only the third doll in the Barbie line to be portrayed as Black, following Francie and Christie.

You will see a lot of Julias on the secondary market today with reddish hair - this is because of how the hair they used for her oxidized over time.

Mattel did a special rerelease of Julia for their 50th anniversary celebration series, with a reproduction of the original Julia doll and still with the same photograph of Julia actress Diahann Carroll on the box.

To the best of my knowledge there have been no new versions of Truly Scrumptious, nor any other Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Barbies.
