Age headcanons for the steambots Youngest to oldest Let's go
Tumblr media
Below are my reasonings. There will be character specific spoilers!
Tristan and Daisy are well established to be kids kind of. The way they're talked to and talked about suggest that they are children. Especially because they talk about their childhoods like it was just a year ago. Tristan is still too young to understand how traumatic his childhood was. Daisy is similar but I think she at least sort of acknowledges that her childhood wasn't the best.
Poe and Beacon just seem younger to me. Poe I feel is very knowing for her age, but I think that's due to being raised to scam people. She probably had to grow up faster than most to be able to see everything as a money making opportunity. And Beacon, well, Beacon seems college student age. I don't remember where they were exactly, but it involved rocket-science level machinery and I can't think of many reasons they'd be there if not college. College deals with those sorts of stuff kind of.
Chimney seems like she graduated college not too long ago. Her affinity for roughhousing and drinking just gives off the vibe of a college party. I mean, where else would she find a group of friends like that?
Quincy and Wesley were hard to decide on. All the dialogue I'm getting from Leeway tells me he is a young adult. He's definitely AN adult, but he's not too old considering how new he is with certain things and the amount of times he said "I wasn't even assembled back then!" He probably would've been younger if it wasn't for Wesley. They're established to be "Old friends" which obviously they knew each other in their younger years. And because it's rather uncommon for kids or teenagers to be friends with people noticeably older than them, I figured they'd have to be in the same age range. Wesley is why they're not younger. Considering that he's been in war, has been in higher education, was there with Leeway both when the Submarine was lost AND found(In fact, he found it), I figured, he should probably have some time to do all that. 27 and 29 isn't that old anyway. Sure, I think they still qualify as young adults.
Sola and Crowbar, I had no idea for Sola, but Crowbar seems to be just a smidgen older considering how many how many crews she's been on. Not too much older because she's quite the fickle. Sola was originally going to be the same age as Leeway bc I can see some nerdy 27 year old working at an aquarium or something, but then I remembered there are like 3 people that ship her with Crowbar, and that's a lot considering the number of ships in this fandom, so I didn't want their age gap to be too crazy even if it's technically not that bad bc they're both over 25 years old.
Judy and Cornelius are both well established to be old. If the gray hair doesn't give it away, then it's the talk about their life experiences. Cornelius apparently used to be a super terrible guy, and he thinks he'll need to spend a lot of time apologizing for this. Also I think he used to serve for the Royalists in SWH?? maybe not I'm not sure. Either way, he's done a lot in his lifetime, and apparently most of it wasn't good. IIRC I don't think he feels redeemed even after defeating the Kraken. And Judy talks about her past experiences all the time. She already was something of a hero before she joined the crew and all her dialogue suggests she's super experienced so I'm giving her time to do all that.

Halloween Party - Bucky Barnes
TW: sexy bunny, Bucky turned on, zootopia costumes, kind of grumpy x sunshine?
Tumblr media
"No", Bucky's voice is serious and his eyes stay stuck on his motorcycle that he's fixing.
"But why?" You whine. "It'll be super fun," you insist, looking down at Bucky's crouch form.
You had tried to convince your boyfriend to come with you at the Avengers' Halloween party all day. But it seems like he really despise dressing up.
"I said no," he repeats and sigh loudly.
Bucky put his wrench on the floor and gets up, wiping his hands on a cloth you had brought him.
"I don't know why you're being so stubborn about it Buck, it's just a party with our friends," you roll your eyes.
He takes a step toward you, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth now as he crosses his arms in front of his chest.
"Because I refuse to be dressed up as a dog, doll. This is not happening," he chuckles.
You frown your eyebrows and get closer to him, "This is not a dog, it's a fox and his name is Nick."
You wanted for you and Bucky to be dressed as the characters from Zootopia, Judy and Nick. Though Bucky didn't seem to be very fond of this idea.
"Yeah well I'm not putting any tail, doll," he raise his eyebrows, seriously.
You narrow your eyes at him and cross your arms, mimicking his gesture. "You're no fun Sergeant," you make a fake pout, trying to convince him.
"And you're being a brat," he scoffs as he return to work on his bike. You sigh and leave the parking, trying to figure out a way to make Bucky dress up with you.
Later in the day you were in your shared bedroom, fixing your costume as Bucky enter the room. You're in front of your full size mirror, adjusting your bunny ears headband. Bucky smirks when he sees you and he walk to you, hugging you from behind. You hum when he burries his face in the crook of your neck. You pass your hand in his hair, softly ruffling them.
"Doll, I don't know what I prefer between seeing you dressed as a police officer or as a bunny," he mumble against your skin before living a kiss on your throat.
You giggle softly and bite your lips. "I need to finish to get dressed Buck," you huff when he growls and let you go reluctantly.
"So you're going to that party, huh?" He asks with a raise eyebrows.
"Course I am," you reply as you turn to look at him. "I don't need you to do everything baby," you add with a smirk as you go to the bathroom.
"But there's no fox to your bunny, doll," he says as he follows you into the bathroom.
"Actually," you begin with a fake innocence, "Peter has agreed to match my costume," you smile without looking at Bucky.
Though you can feel him tense at your words, Bucky is very jealous and he assume it totally.
"Peter, huh?" He says with a low voice as he appears behind you in the bathroom's mirror.
Bucky's staring at you in the mirror with dark eyes as you put on your make up. You glance at him with fake innocent eyes.
"Yeah Peter, why?" You ask him with doe-eyes.
"Peter..." Bucky repeat with a low voice, looking around him as he pass a hand through his hair. He nods his head, "Peter," he said again before leaving the room quikly with a determined look.
You finish your make up with a grin on your face, knowing that you had finally found your date for tonight's party.
You therefore spend the night at the arm of your fox boyfriend and, despite Sam jokes about his ears and tail, Bucky got through the night a wide smile on his face. He can't help it, he's just so fond of you. Especially when you're dressed as a rabbit police officer.
"Y'know I could get us to those," he grins at you as he brush his fingers over one of your fake bunny ear.
"Yeah?" You give him a kiss, "Well maybe I could use them a little longer tonight..." you whisper in his ear with a teaseful smile a lustful look.
Bucky wet his lips and caught a little, trying to compose himself. "Yeah well, I'm feeling a little tired already. What about going back to the room now, huh?" He tells you as he tugs your hand.
"As you wish Sergeant."
You hush a chuckle as you follow him through the crowd of people.

Jean Arthur (The Talk of the Town, Too Many Husbands)—It's Jean Arthur! She supposedly named herself after King Arthur and Joan of Arc so she's got that weird gender swag and her voice is often described as frog-like! She's kinda small yet always has the energy she could beat up any of the guys around her. In fact, in The Talk of the Town she attacks some cops with a wrench. Hot! Her vibes are so weird and I'm in love with her. Hope that helps.
Jack Lemmon (The Great Race, The Apartment, Some Like It Hot)—He's the everyman, he's clumsy, he's strange, in nearly every movie he finds himself in the oddest of circumstances because he's taken advantage of or because of... bad luck? You empathize with him, he's really a little guy. And yet... Why is he so hot? Why does he have this charm, this hidden fire, this weird kind of... elegance? You can't help but sense this magnetism he radiates. There is power in his charming eccentricity and clumsiness. He just really draws you in and you want to explore what it is that makes him so scrungly and so attractive at once.
This is round 1 of the contest. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. If you're confused on what a scrungle is, or any of the rules of the contest, click here.
[additional submitted propaganda + scrungly videos under the cut]
Jean Arthur:
wait wait wait come back i can justify this i promise!! yes. i know she is heaven on earth. her voice sings to the angels and croaks with the frogs. i am also aware she is a luminous blonde. however h a v e you considered the gospel that a fruity screwball blonde dame can, in fact, scrungle? in her own bizarre fashion? i present her entire filmography but also this clip as evidence. look at her little twinkle as she sics her two husbands against each other and loves every second of it.
youtube
in this one she starts disassociating because she's going to buy a dog.
youtube
Jack Lemmon:
his chemistry with judy holliday in their two movies together is ZOINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i couldn't find any clips of that so watch him have mad chemistry with peter falk instead in my favorite campiest film of all time instead
youtube
His character in Glengary Glen Ross is literally the archetype Pathetic Guy. Even if you haven't seen this film I PROMISE you have seen iterations of Jack Lemmon's character from it. His character in Days of Wine and Roses will break your heart and show what an amazing range he has. [editor's note: I haven't seen either of these films so don't consider them recs from me. Also please keep your propaganda within the 1910-1970 range. tw for alcoholism in the clip below.]

Investigations 2 thoughts
Finished Investigations 2 last night! (Forgot to do this so here we are a day late) OH. MY. GOD. I genuinely think it is one, of not my favourite ace attorney game. It's so bloody good. Returning characters are just as good as they were, somehow the cameos are even better. AND THE NEW CHARACTERS??? (I'll get to them) Wooooo boy.
Case rankings are: Turnabout for the Ages (AAI2-5) A Turnabout Forsaken (AAI2-4) Turnabout Legacy (AAI2-3) Turnabout Trigger (AAI2-1) The Captive Turnabout (AA2-2)
Detailed spoilers undercut! All characters (apart from Sebastian) will use the official names!
Captive Turnabout was far from a weak case, although I do think it is the weakness due to having a couple weak characters compared to Turnabout Trigger where it has fewer character who are all very good and strong. Knight being the victim was a very good choice, and so was the introduction of Fender, Seb, and Gavelle. Laguarde isn't the weakest villain, I'd still say it's Knight, but I personally enjoyed Knight's character a lot more than Laguarde, despite her larger role in the whole over arcing story. I think the case is weaken by Carcerato and Sahwit. Carcerato isn't the most memorable character nor is he that impactful. While Sahwit's return was definitely fun, he didn't particularly add much to the case.
Turnabout Trigger is an incredible introduction case. All of its new characters (Tabby, Knight, Wang) are all great for their own reason and the story of the case itself is also great. I like how we refer back to the first game about the solving of the Yatagarasu and how it doesn't feel disconnected completely from the first game. Tabby is a fun and silly character who I wasn't expected to actually get tied into the plot itself. Wang is a great set up for everything that happens with him in case five and both size of him are very enjoyable. Knight, while still the weakest villain of the game, I don't feel like it harms the case too much as his character makes up for his weaker motive compared to the others in the game. Seeing De Killer is also extremely fun, especially considering his later appearances as well.
If I was ranking this on which case gave me the most emotional gut punches this case wins by a landslide and CASE 5 EXISTS. Turnabout Legacy is an emotional rollercoaster of a case. Slipping back and forth between the Edgeworths is super fun as you go in with insight from the past/future which makes the case really fun to piece together with all but one amazing characters and the return of my king TYRELL BADD ALL PRAISE THE TALL DETECTIVE MAN. Eddie is just has fun here, if not more so when he's younger. Him eating the paper is a fun gag and getting to see the development of his and Judy's relationship is so enjoyable to me there are lovers. As previously said, all the characters (minus one) are great. Judy is adorable, pretty, and a minor villain which I think aa needs more of. Samson is a loveable dork despite how little he has appearance wise. Gusto is a fuck of a man but a great villain, and getting to see Badd and Manfred in the past is great and I could ask for nothing else. The photos Eddie has, as well as him having both Gregory's hat and coat, AS WELL as every time Gregory mentions Miles in the past tears me to shreds and I'm so confident this games hates me.
Turnabout Forsaken once again BROKE. ME. Not only do you have Kay being a sweetheart because SHE REMEMBERS NOTHING, you have the heart break of Franzy's and Gumshoe's reactions, as well as the heart wrench of Seb's reaction to his father. WHO IS A MASSIVE BASTARD. Excelsius is an amazing villain, and both his breakdown and sprite work make him so much better. While the case itself isn't necessarily complex, you still have that struggle against a powerful figure without it being drawn out like what happened with Alba. Gavèlle in this case is FANTASTIC, but she somehow only manages to get better thanks to case 5. Seeing Ema once again is amazing, same with Lotta. The scene with Kay getting her memories back is so heartwarming and also gut wrenching this game needs to leave my guts alone.
YET SOMEHOW CASE FIVE ENDS UP EVEN BETTER??? It has a grand total of two kidnappings, and 3 murders to solve, AS WELL AS CONNECTING BACK TO EVERY OTHER CASE IN THE FUCKING GAME. Lang finally making his appearance again big time with the death of his president and the backstory reveal except SIKE THE PRESIDENT'S BEEN DEAD FOR 12 YEARS HAHAHAH SOLVE HIS MURDER NOW. Shaun is a loveable little brat and only gets better when Mama Bear Gavèlle shows up to scold him for being disrespectful and the spirit of her hugging him is everything to me. The conclusion of Sebastian's story is GLORIOUS and once again is boosted by amazing sprite work. Speaking of sprite work SIMEON FUCKING SAINT BEING THE BIG BAD. YOU GOT YOUR FULBRIGHT MOMEMT @cactours ARE YOU HAPPY. Ahem. Simeon was a character I had very much enjoyed solely from case two. I made the link of him being Gusto's son the second you find Knight's things and see the PH on his ring, but didn't except him to be behind EVERYTHING. His switch up is amazing, his sprites are all brilliant, him mimicking Edgeworth, his breakdown, his father I mean Kanis coming to rescue him when De Killer comes to kill him is also incredibly sweet. Also death by hot air balloon is a new one. Very creative Simmy 10/10.

Thank you @islandtarochips for the tag!
A little list to showcase your OC's favorite things
Tumblr media
-Name: Claire Ekaterina Makarova
-Universe: SCP foundation(she is in others but those are AUs)
-Favorite book(and why): 1984 by George Orwell. Generally Claire's reading is limited on scientific books, biology ones in particular as she loves to expand her knowledge on her field but she finds old readings rather interesting and she took a particular liking in Orwell's writings, animal farm is also one of these.
-Favorite song: Dark beach by pastel ghost. She finds a somewhat sense of peace in this kind of electronic music. She loves the muffled singing.
-Favorite piece of clothing they own: It wasn't like this at the start, but when she gained a bit of confidence she started to love the elegant dress she uses to go clubbing. She would look at herself in the mirror, sometimes admiring how it brings up her features and how her untie hair match it so well;
-Favorite "little treat": Claire is a sweet lover. She is a chocolate and strawberry fan for sure and those two mixed together is the end for her. Id say then the strawberries deep in any kind of chocolate are her favorite in absolutely;
-Favorite person in their lives: Claire does not hold preference for anyone. She gets affectionate to who she loves in the same way;
-Dream home: a cottage in a isolate area in the mountains;
-Dream life: A life of freedom where she isn't tie to anything or anyone again. She wants to explore the world without pressures, without fear of dying.
Tumblr media
-Name: Dmitry Vasilij Makarov
-Universe: SCP foundation (others as well but those are AUs)
-Favorite book (and why): the interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud. Despite Dmitry finding Freud methods outdated and often telling that we advanced a lot when it comes to psychoanalisis, he also find some of his readings interesting such as the dream related ones. He doesn't take seriously the book tho, but rather a start to continue his studies and finding new discoveries about the oniric that others would not know.
-Favorite song: Dmitry does not have a favorite song, however he listen to ambient sounds when he's working. The beach waves one being his favorite.
-Favorite piece of clothing they own: a black sweater with turtleneck that you can often see under his labcoat. There is no particular reason for him to like it, he just comfortable with anything that covers his skin completely.
-Favorite "little treat": He sometimes find himself to buy the buldak ramen when he has nothing else to make for lunch or dinner, not that he eats that often tho. The ramen thing has probably become a dependence and also he can handle spice well.
-Favorite person in their lives: It might sound like a joke because at first glance it would be impossible to know that this man has a favorite person but instead there is and is Maria, the mother that took him when his biological one left for the GOC.
-Dream home: Something small near the beach. It's gonna be climatized tho as he can't handle the heat at all. But he would just be there for the sound of the waves crashing on the sand.
-Dream life: He never thought of what life could be outside the foundation walls but he would have loved to raise a terrarium with snakes.
Tumblr media
-Name: Evelyn "Mandy" Ross.
-Universe: SCP foundation
-Favorite book (and why): The book thief by Markus Zusak. Being a veteran of WW2 who served as a nurse for the US army at the time, she often find herself to read about what happened in the past, as some sort of closure to the trauma that she went through. She has read them all, her guts wrenching everytime at what she never saw and that was under her nose all this time. She took a particular liking in the book thief as somewhat she relates to Lesiel, the protagonist.
-Favorite song: Over the rainbow by Judy Garland/Glenn Miller. One of the most beloved cinema music and also one beloved to her as well as she listened to it once before drafting herself for the war. It holds so much memories for her both bad and good and often find herself playing it for her children when those cried as babies.
-Favorite piece of clothing they own: Mandy still has the blue cape that nurses used during ww2. She still keeps it on her shoulders.
-Favorite "little treat": snickers!
-Favorite person in their lives: even tho she holds no contact with any of them, Mandy is still fond of her two children, Claire and Dmitry.
-Dream home: A little home in a rural area, where the town is small and there is no much people.
-Dream life: Mandy holds so much regret for her decisions, she would love to go back in the past and change it all. She would love to become a doctor and help people without being forced to a life in prison. She wish she was never born with her anomaly.
Tumblr media
-Name: Lilja Järvinen
-Universe: Rainbow Six Siege
-Favorite book (and why): Anything related to k9 training. Ofc, as a dog trainer who is hyperfixated on anything related to that, she has a vast collection of books that point at dogs and their training for the forces.
-Favorite song: Killer by Mareux
-Favorite piece of clothing they own: Any baggy clothes in her drawer. There is no particular reason for it, just that she is more comfortable with them on. The only problem is that she often stumbles on her own pants while walking.
-Favorite "little treat": She concede herself a trail of cinnamon rolls at least once every week. She usually takes them from her local bakery, nowadays they even prepare so before so she could be served immediately, not that she ever complains of course, shes a usual customer after all.
-Favorite person in their lives: at the moment she feels that she has no favorite in her life. She isn't that much close to any of the other operators and she finds herself often overthinking that somehow she is annoying to them.
-Dream home: her own childhood home is her dream home. It's was a farm with livestock and shepherd dogs not so far from a small town. That's where she gained passion for training dogs and improving that with the use of her knowledge in robotics.
-Dream life: She never really thinks about that, at the moment she is content with what she has.

You’re More Than My Heart, You’re My Blood
Flufftober Day 1 - "I've got you"
@flufftober
(Read on AO3)
WC: 1086
---------
Like every night since they brought her home three weeks ago, it’s his daughter’s soft cries that wake him. Little whimpers and whines that he’s learned will quickly morph into full-blown wails. He has a minute, at best.
Don keeps his eyes shut tight, listening. Waiting.
Maybe, just maybe, for the first time, she’ll go back to sleep instead. She’s gotta sleep through the night at some point, right? But seconds later he’s rubbing his face and blinking into the low dark as Lina’s cries do the expected: become a little louder. A little more insistent.
Barely a month old, and she’s already a force of nature. Just like her mother.
Don exhales a laugh, picturing Judy’s expression when she wants him to do something: her full, pouty lips; her big, pleading eyes...
Yeah...
He never stands a chance against that look.
Another cry hits his ears, and Don tilts his head toward the corner where Lina’s crib sits, her light-up mobile casting a dance of stars across the ceiling, the walls. Beside him Judy stirs, a soft, disoriented sound of her own joining their infant’s disgruntled ones as she peels her face up from the pillow.
“What time is it?” Her voice cracks in her half-awake state, and Don gently pushes her arm down when she begins to lift the blanket, readying to get up.
“Hey, no,” he whispers. “You sleep. I’ll take this one.”
Judy gives in immediately.
After weeks of these middle-of-the-night wake-ups, her usual determination has been replaced by exhaustion, and she collapses back into the pillows with a grateful sigh of “thank you...”
Don hums his acknowledgment, dusting a kiss and a soft I love you to her temple before tucking the covers tighter around her shoulders and sliding out from under them himself as Lina’s wails swell.
He hurries the few steps it takes to reach her crib, and in the light from the false constellation dangling overhead, he can see that she’s kicked off her blanket, her little hands and bootied feet flailing as she produces sounds far louder than lungs so small have any right too.
Judy often jokes that she gets her loud mouth from him, and in these moments of shocking volume, he can never decide if he wants to take that as a compliment or not…
As impressed as he is, though, he really wants to let Judy get some more rest.
“Alright, kiddo.” He leans into the crib, carefully positioning one hand under his daughter’s back and sliding the other behind her head to support her neck the way Judy taught him. “You’re okay. Daddy’s got you,” he murmurs as he picks her up, still so small, weighing almost nothing. He’s held wrenches that were heavier.
Lina’s cries sputter out for a moment as she nuzzles her face into his shirt like she’s searching for something. They return with full force when she doesn’t find it.
Don cradles her up to his shoulder and strokes her back, swaying in a gentle, calming rhythm.
“What’s the problem, hm?”
He performs a hesitant smell-check that tells him she doesn’t need a change yet, so...It must be feeding time?
“I hope you got Mom’s brains,” he mutters into a kiss on her chubby, cry-reddened cheek. “You gotta learn to talk stat. Dad’s pretty good at deduction, but words will be a lot easier.”
A breathy chuckle drifts from the cocoon of blankets on the bed and Don looks over, just able to make out Judy’s face in the light of the simulated stars orbiting across her.
Don shakes his head, giving her a small smile. “You’re supposed to be sleeping.”
“I will,” comes her contented reply as she sinks deeper into the bedding, soft eyes still on him. “I love you,” she calls, quiet against the noise of their child.
If Lina was calm, he’d crawl back beneath the covers with her and hold them boththeir own little colony of three.
But she isn’t calm. She’s cranky, and needs feeding, and he just volunteered for the job.
“I love you too.”
Gently bouncing Lina in his arms as her shrill screams continue, Don grabs a blanket from the crib and slings it over his free shoulder. He makes a quick stop at their bedside to give Judy a kiss, then heads out to the kitchen.
Not wanting to disturb his unhappy infant even more, he flips the lights to their lowest setting before retrieving one of the bottles Judy left in the fridge. As it heats in the microwave, he keeps up his soothing routine of gentle bounces and soft whispers into her softer hair.
Once the bottle is warmed, he settles on the couch, and Lina’s cries subside to short, sporadic whimpers. Don smiles as she makes tiny fists in the fabric of his t-shirt, and starts to rub her little nose into his chest again.
“Sorry, kid,” he chuckles. “Nothin’ there but pure muscle.”
He kisses the top of her head, careful of the spot that Judy told him would still be soft for the first few months before coaxing her back to replace his shirt with the bottle. Lina latches onto it like she hasn’t had a single morsel to eat in her entire short life, and she falls silent, save a few quiet sniffles and coos.
As Don watches her eat her fill, she watches him in return; her big, brown eyes, so much like Judy’s, so much like his, staring up at him.
It’s strange to recognize parts of himself in someone else.
Raised in that cold, Catholic orphanage, he hadn’t known his parents. Didn’t know if he had siblings. Had never met anyone he was related to. His whole life, it was just Don West; alone in a world that never seemed to want him.
Then he met the Robinsons. He met Judy. And he finally learned what family was. What it felt like to love, and, more importantly, what it felt like to be loved in return. To have people who cared, and who showed up when you needed them. He’d never had that growing up. But Lina?
Lina will have it all.
Her little hands come up against his on the bottle, and even as her impossibly small fingers close around his much bigger one, he knows that he’s the one wrapped around hers.
“Don’t worry, Lina,” he whispers, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “You won’t be alone. I’ve got you. Us Robinson-Wests? We stick together.”

hey poetz, hope you’re doing well! i was reading thru some db asks and saw a few where you spoke briefly about the berrymen passing and also about how quinn would react to russell’s inevitable death, but i didn’t see anything about judy. i can’t imagine how difficult her death would be for quinn, especially considering she essentially already lost her father — do you have any thoughts on judy’s passing in db?
Tumblr media
Judy’s passing will hit all the Fabrays pretty hard. Judy puts in a lot of work to undo the hurt she inflicted on her daughter(s) in the bad, wine-drunk time, and her relationship with Quinn (and Frannie) is on really good terms in her golden years, and, of course, her grand-kids adore her. She even has a fairly solid relationship with Rachel by the time Celeste is born, so losing her means losing a mother for both Quinn and Rachel and a grandma for their girls. That really sucks.
I imagine that, by then, Frannie and Quinn have fixed all the major issues with their relationship too - they’re already on pretty good terms again when Celeste comes along - so I think they’ll really help each other through all the heart-wrenching work of settling Judy’s estate and the major cleanup that comes with sorting out a lifetime of stuff. I feel like Judy’s health would be noticeably in decline prior to her death, so they’re all going to know it’s coming and make an effort to spend time with her and get some arrangements sorted before the inevitable end. There will be a thousand tears, the remembering of good times and not-so-good times, and the assurances that they made the most of every moment they had with Judy.

38, 40 & 41 for the movie asks! 💕
38 > in your opinion what is the most overrated movie?
idk what I think "thee" most overrated movie is like, there's just to many movies to narrow it down but one of MY most overrated movies will always be An American in Paris fucking waste of my god damn time like older films have a different sort of flow and pace compared to modern films and that's not the issue I can watch an older film and still vibe - I actually liked Judy Garland's A Star is Born even with all the obvious issues, Philadelphia Story wasn't bad either, Gentlemen Prefer Blonde's is delightful, etc - but like nothing fucking happens in An American in Paris worst is that the last 20-ish minute of the film is just Gene Kelly flexing just one long run-on dance scene that's not even like connected together??? It's just in his head with different set pieces and a means to flex Nina Foch as his dance partner
The only other film that inspires that much this shit is so fucking overrated to me is Singin in the Rain which I also didn't like. The songs were okay and yeah everybody in the cast can dance like whoa but the story is boring - I'd rather watch a documentary on actors being dubbed post silent era tbh it'd be more interesting - and Debbie Reynolds has no chemistry with Gene Kelly.
Maybe I don't like Gene Kelly movies lmao I find these two specifically "overrated" b/c they're considered "classics" in cinema and like I get why but also I hate them
A more modern day overrated pick is Captain America Civil War, fuck that movie oh and Blade Runner fuck that movie too
40 > a film you think everyone should see at least once
Fuck this is DIFFICULT so I'ma cheat lmao
Titanic - if only for the sheer power and brilliance of Cameron's direction like if you're a fan of film making I think you should watch this movie. The scene where the ship sets sail and the head on shot is so freaking well done it's phenomenal. Cameron is a good direction, I've seen a lot of his films and what I like about him is he makes good films that are well made but accessible.
Princess Mononoke OR Ponyo - I think these two are two of Miyazaki's best work in terms of animation. Storywise I prefer PM but Ponyo has just some absolutely amazing animation. What I really love about Miyazaki's direction is the still moments he has in his films, there's a lot of shots in PM where nothing is happening except a butterfly landing on a tree branch, or a character looking at the moon.
Tale of Princess Kaguya - speaking of Ghibli I feel like when it comes to Isao Takahata's work everyone recommends Grave of the Fireflies which is totally fair and I def think that film is 1000% worth watching but I think ToPK is his crowning jewel the animation is BRILLIANT and the story is heart wrenching. It really combines everything Takahata's work was so good at - tragedy, beauty, stillness, how the lack of community hurts us all ugh so good
NGE End of Eva - honestly this film is my Clockwork Orange in film bro terms lmao like I don't know if I "recommend" this b/c it's confusing - you gotta watch Death/Rebirth to even understand it at all and even THEN it's confusing - but it's so VISCERAL like def one of the most visceral experiences I've had watching a film and for that I think it's 100% worth watching
I also think it's worth checking out Martin Scorsese and Hayao Miyazaki's recommend films list
41 > name three movies you consider “classics” (yeah I cheated again sue me)
Ghost in the Shell (1995) for the sheer insane influence it had on cyberpunk and sci-fi
Metropolis (1927 and 2001) the OG film is really if you want to see how classic movies worked and if you like history, the 2001 is animated and not a remake but is beautifully animated and has one of the BEST climaxes of any film I've seen
Pretty Woman
Evil Dead
Princess Bride
Hero

Gemstones Episode 3.1: Kelvin collects cocks, the Simpkins smirk, and Dusty Daniels flirts. With a Brazilian beefcake bonus.
Tumblr media
The Season 2 finale of The Righteous Gemstones  aired in February 2022.  Season 3 premieres in June 2023, sixteen months later, but the timeline in the Gemstone universe doesn't fit.  Plus personalities and back stories are different.  As with Season 2, it will be more profitable -- and more fun -- to enter fresh, pretending that we have never seen or heard of these people before.
Title: "For I Know the Plans I Have for You."  Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." I hope so, because word on the street is that this season gets very dark.
Rogers County Fair, 2000:  The teenage Jesse Gemstone is announcing a demolition derby featuring his monster truck, the Redeemer, while his parents, megachurch pastor Eli Gemstone and his wife Aimee-Leigh, argue: the Redeemer is putting butts in seats, but is this really appropriate for a Christian ministry?   What are we going to do next, sell beer?  At that moment, a muscle hunk comes by selling beer!
Eli and Aimee-Leigh's three kids look very young, but according to the fan wiki, Jesse is 19, Judy is 15, and Kelvin is 9 or 10.
While Aimee-Leigh is off smoking a cigarette, May-May, a shabbily-dressed middle-aged woman, approaches, furious: "You pretend to be all sweet and caring, but I know the truth -- what you done to my family."  She attacks; Aimee-Leigh runs through the crowd, screaming for help, but May-May catches up and hits her with a wrench. As she lies bleeding on the ground, a car hits -- May-May!
Eli Retires: Present day. Time to introduce the main conflicts of the season.  First up: the now-elderly Eli is hanging out with his Mason-like Cape and Pistol Society. They ask how he's enjoying his retirement.  Actually, he's only semi-retired: he's writing another autobiography and taking speaking engagements, but his kids are running the church. Gulp!  His friend: "You scared your kids are gonna blow it?"
Tumblr media
Cut to Zion's Landing, the Gemstones' Christian-themed resort. The 42-year old Jesse and his crew confront Eli's driver.  In joke: his name is Walker!  He squealed to the press about the dwindling membership and donations since the kids took over, so they beat him up and fire him. Pretending to have never seen these characters before, I am shocked.  Christian ministers are often shady and hypocritical, but violent? What if someone sees?
A Cold Fish Kiss: Eli's second child, Judy, is now a famous singer.  She has just returned from a tour, and her husband BJ wants to snuggle, but she yells at him for pressuring her, gives him a "cold fish kiss," and runs out again.  Uh-oh, marital trouble.
Smut Busters: The primary conflict, judging from the amount of air time it gets: 32 or 33 -year old Kelvin, wearing a t-shirt that says "Smut Busters" above a splat of -- jizz?  -- is showing a giant novelty dildo to someone named Keefe. He exclaims with glee, "That is gonna hurt."  So he's gay, and Keefe is his boyfriend.  Who's the bottom?
We pan out to see kids examining a pile of sex toys, mostly dildos and butt plugs of various sizes and shapes, intended for gay men.  Notice the "Size Queen" dildo.   Hey, are these guys...gulp...pedos?
Psych!  Kelvin and Keefe are actually youth ministers, running a project called the Smut Busters.  They buy out the inventory of local adult stores, to force them into bankruptcy.  Wait -- anyone know basic economics?
The youth group kids, also in Smut Busters t-shirts, are just examining the latest haul.  Do they take the kids to the adult stores?  They wouldn't be allowed inside.  Besides,  "exposing children to sex" is a misdemeanor.
They ask the kids and adult volunteer Taryn to join them in the Smut Buster chant: "No smut, no lust, no coconuts" (with a feminine hip wiggle). No one joins in.
After extensive research, I conclude that "coconuts" doesn't have a symbolic meaning, except maybe to evoke testicles.  It was chosen for  its near-rhyme. The chant reflects the playground phrase "no butts, no cuts, no coconuts" (no cutting in line), and its variation, "No ifs, no buts, no coconuts" (no disagreeing).
Pretending to have never seen these characters before,  I conclude that they are a gay couple: notice how Kelvin plays with Keefe's nipple, an intimacy that platonic pals would not enjoy, how Keefe gets all bitchy around Taryn, and how most of the sex toys they buy are for gay men.  They can't conceive of something used by straight men as erotic: "There's a naked lady on the box.  Keefe, I said sexy, not disgusting!"
So the main conflicts of the season will involve the transition of power, marital problems, and coming out.
The Primitive Tribe: At church, the siblings are bragging about their missionary trip, where they brought Lasik Surgery to an isolated tribe in the Amazon.
They are completely clueless; surgery to correct astigmatism must be the most trivial of the group's medical needs.  Plus the depiction of a "primitive tribe" veers uncomfortably close to racism.
Tumblr media
Old Slow-Eyes: Then Sunday dinner at Jason's Steak House. They argue about who is responsible for the decline in church members and donations since Eli stepped down, then about church leadership: Jesse thinks that he should be the sole leader, but the others think that they should lead together.
How closeted are Kelvin and Keefe?  They are presented as the equivalent of the other couples, Jesse/Amber and Judy/BJ;  Jesse even refers to them as a unit. Plus Kelvin displays some feminine traits that anyone would pick up on instantly. Maybe they are out to the family, but closeted to the church.
Jesse criticizes the Smut Buster project -- preventing truck drivers from getting "dick pills" but not doing anything to help the church.  Kelvin says that they have bought up the inventory of 16 porno shops along the I-95 corridor. Of course, they get to keep the dildos. This is a call-back to Season 2, when Jesse complained that Kelvin's God Squad, a collection of musclemen, was solely for "popping boners," his own erotic enjoyment, not to help the church.
Next on the agenda:  A wealthy donor, famous racecar driver Dusty Daniels (Shea Whigham, left) planned to bequeath his entire $200 million fortune to the church.  But now that Eli has stepped down, he will be going with the rival Simpkins family instead.  Uh-oh,  the church can't afford to lose this!
The Evil Simpkins:  The siblings visit Dusty at his private racetrack to convince him to change his mind, but he thinks that the Simpkins display more fraternal affection.  The Gemstones can't even hold hands properly (this will become important later).
Kelvin keeps fiddling with a ring on his wedding-ring finger, to draw viewer attention to it. Are he and Keefe actually married?
The Simpkins arrive: two brothers and a sister, about the same age as the Gemstones.  They have no trouble holding hands! Plus they are self-made millionaire pastors -- they didn't inherit a dynasty..
Shay Simpkins flirts with Dusty, so Judy says that she also finds him hot.  Kelvin nods his agreement.  Wait - how out is he?  Dusty, openly bisexual, returns the compliment: "All y'all look good, but this ain't about looks."  Kelvin: "That's a good thing because if it were, we'd win by a mile."  They flex and posture.
Ok, Dusty says, why don't you battle for me?  In stock cars. He's putting himself in a feminine role: traditionally suitors compete for the attention of a young lady.
Jesse against Craig Simpkins, who claims that he has no experience. Uh-oh, he means he's not experienced in the basic stock cars used in NASCAR racing.  He's an expert in the more advanced Formula 1 cars.
There isn't even a race: Jesse stalls and then spins out.  The fortune goes to the Simpkins!
The full review, with nude photos and explicit sexual discussions, is on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends

'...When I watched All of Us Strangers, there was an emotional scene in the film that made me think about Matthew Shepard, who was severely beaten, tied to a split-rail fence, and left for dead in Laramie, Wyo. That was 25 years ago.
And more recently, the tragic, heartbreaking death of Nex Benedict.
In the movie, Andrew Scott’s character Adam reflects on the journey of being gay and the inevitable pain that comes with it. Adam says to Paul Mescal’s character Harry, “It’s funny, things are better, of course they are, but it doesn’t take much to make you feel the way you felt back there again, skin all raw.” It doesn’t take much to feel that pain we felt 25 years ago.
I think all of us are feeling our skin all raw again in the wake of the tragic death of Nex, a sophomore at Owasso High School in Oklahoma who was brutally beaten in a school lavatory in February and died the following day. The local medical examiner has ruled Nex's death a suicide. Nex was transgender and used he/him and they/them pronouns...
When you speak to Matthew’s mom, you understand immediately that her skin has remained raw for the last 25-plus years. Judy...has written and spoken about her son for a long time, but any reminder of Matthew still evokes tears and heartache, and it was palpable during our video call. And there’s no worse reminder than when she hears that someone else was beaten and died because they were queer.
“Sadly, I’m very well aware of people getting attacked for who they are. That's been part of my entire life. It's so pointless, right? You are who you are. Why can't we just accept ourselves as people? Nex’s death is particularly wrenching. Nex was so young and appeared to be so vibrant.”
I was deathly afraid to go into my high school lavatory, not because my classmates knew I was gay – I was years from coming out – but the “heads,” as we called them, smoked cigarettes in those bathrooms, and they were a threatening lot.
I’ve been thinking about that apprehension and how it pales in comparison to what Nex felt when he had to use the bathroom. And how for so many of us who had to endure, and still do, going into a place where, behind walls and stalls, hate flowed more freely out of the public eye. For Nex, that bathroom was unavoidable, and it must have sent shivers down his spine every time he had to enter...
Kids who are like Nex are scared out of their minds when they hear someone use terms like “homos” or “queers” or the T word. They know damn well those words are like a match that sets the hate ablaze. What is truly despicable is that this language is allowed to proliferate in some schools and in public discourse, and what is truly tragic is that Nex won’t be the last victim. There are parents around this country who fear for the lives of their children, and that is heartbreaking...
Judy said she and her husband think about what would have been frequently. “We often see young men who remind us of Matt the way he was, and it makes us wistful, smile even; however, I’ve never wanted to project him into what he would look like now. It’s too hard to even think about that.”'

"bury your gays", like "queerbaiting", has a specific use and a queer character dying does not automatically fit the trope. BUT I'm already on the frontline fighting the war to keep "queerbaiting" relevant so I'm not going to go off about "bury your gays", do with it what you will. I will not debate you.
So, having said that, Judy Hale does not fit the "bury your gays" trope, as I understand it, but I'm still very disappointed by that ending to her story. The execution was beautiful. The performances were gut wrenching and amazing.
But "almost dying" is always a choice writers have with characters and their arrogance always leads to them to choose death because they want power over the devastation it brings the audience. They enjoy knowing they evoked the most powerful emotion out of us that they could and a character only almost dying softens it.
Liz took some wild swings in season 3. Those amazing and gut-wrenching performances did a lot to distract from it not being very good and made it enjoyable nonetheless.

Sorry I just saw your tags I just read my sister’s keeper for the first time recently and it was so fucking good but so fucking heart wrenching? Genuinely I love the way that judi picoult wrote that book and I envy it in my own narrative style but oh my god. idk I cried like a baby. Maybe it’s being born an older sister (and being now an older brother) that.. I kinda get it?? Where do you draw the line in what you do for ur siblings?? Idk insane. Ur right for those tags tho
YES. I agree!!! I know Anna was the younger sister but from a narrative perspective and just her role, she was very older sibling coded
And the book ending being much more tragic than the movie ending really wraps up the concept of Anna's role as a "tool"
I genuinely think abt that story often
