Self Care Sunday - March 26th, 2023

Even though self care should be practiced daily from emotional, physical and spiritual standpoints, Sundays should be days you give yourself added grace and extra tender care for the week you’ve had. With “Self Care Picks,” we select songs from the previous week to help give you that refresh that your mind, body and soul deserve. Also included are three additional songs that accent the forms of self care needed for an additional boost to provide you with all you may require for what lies ahead in the week to come.

‘Black Horses’ - Amsterdam songstress Joya Mooi, has everything she needs for a song to last a lifetime and that can all be heard on her smooth sailing track that can shift any mood into one of peace and relaxation, perfect for a self care day. Like the black horses she sings about, this song was out of left field but a pleasant listen through and through each time.

‘Standards’ - With several high standards of her own, the entrepreneur without a day off Keke Palmer found time to craft a song just for those who are tired of feeling sorry for things you may not be able to change. With a goal to improve in all areas of life, the “Virgo Tendencies” looks within to put herself first, proving that self care begins with you and only you.

‘Some Feelings Never Go Away’ - It’s true that some things never change and that goes for feelings. Nia Sultana pours out her emotions on the dream-like track, that went from asking for too much to being bossed up. Sometimes you have to take a step back to align with your goals and Sultana makes that evident from the second you press play until the song wraps.

‘GLU’ - As to no surprise, Usher gives vocals and passion that will have you in heat and permanently leaving this sultry single on repeat. No additives needed, Usher continues to demonstrate that when you perfect your craft the outcome can be more than pleasurable over and over again.

‘Fly Girl’ - If FLO’s presence wasn’t already felt, the London ladies ignited a classic sample (or two) with Missy Elliott who’s given us numerous anthems and with ‘Fly Girl’ they did just that once more. Staying loveable, fly and in sync the 90’s inspired song gives hints of girl group realness yet confirms their own talents as a whole and individually. “If you’re a fly girl, get your nails done, get a pedicure, get your hair did…” is instructions in itself to practice self care and should be the standard for any self care regimen.
