Ch 28: To the Moon Verse 1

Erzabet finds Tailor sitting alone, deep in thought, and walks up to them. She crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow. "So, Tailor," she says, "are you still planning on chasing after the ones controlling the zombies?"

Tailor looks up, their eyes filled with determination. "Yes," they reply firmly. "But there's something else. Something bigger."

Erzabet tilts her head, curious. "What do you mean?" she asks.

Tailor takes a deep breath. "When we found the satellite phone," they begin, "we received a call from someone on the moon. They called themselves Major Tom."

Erzabet's eyes widen in surprise. "Major Tom?" she repeats, a hint of recognition in her voice. "Like the David Bowie song?"

Tailor nods. "Exactly," they say. "But Major Tom is more than just a reference. They're an advanced AGI, a childlike intelligence that has taken over the moon base."

Erzabet looks intrigued. "So, what does this Major Tom want?" she asks.

Tailor sighs. "They need help," they say. "But to reach them, we'd have to get to the moon."

Erzabet scoffs. "The moon?" she says incredulously. "That sounds impossible."

Tailor smiles wryly. "It may seem impossible," they say, "but think about everything we've already faced. We've survived the apocalypse, confronted zombies, and toppled a corrupt council. We're capable of more than we realize."

Erzabet crosses her arms, her expression thoughtful. "You may have a point," she admits. "But how do we even begin to get to the moon?"

Tailor's eyes sparkle with determination. "We'll figure it out," they say. "We'll gather resources, find allies, and build a plan. If there's a way to reach Major Tom and help them, we have to try."

Erzabet studies Tailor for a moment, then sighs. "You're relentless, aren't you?" she says. "Always chasing after the next adventure."

Tailor grins. "I can't help it," they say. "There's always more to discover, more to fight for."

Erzabet shakes her head, but there's a hint of a smile on her lips. "Fine," she says. "Count me in. I can't resist a good challenge."

Tailor's face lights up with excitement. "Great!" they exclaim. "We'll need all the help we can get."

19th October 1745, death of Irish author and satirist Jonathan Swift, best known for his work ‘Gulliver's Travels’, cited as an early proto-gothic novel for its supernatural and sublime elements throughout the story. Swift came from a family of literary connections, with poet John Dryden, and Margaret Godwin, the sister of Francis Godwin, author of ‘The Man in the Moone’, written under the pseudonym of Domingo Gonsales. The work, considered as the first science fiction novel, describes Gonsales’ twelve day journey to the moon, using a flying machine tethered to a species of powerful swans he calls ‘The Ganda’. On the surface he encounters the Lunars, inhabiting a utopian paradise. The story would later influence Gulliver's Travels. 20th October 1632, birth of Sir Christopher Wren. Wren’s scientific interests ranged from astronomy, optics, navigation, architecture, cosmology, mechanics, microscopy, surveying, medicine and meteorology. Wren is best known today as the architect of the rebuilt St Paul's Cathedral in London, and the rebuilding of a further 52 churches in London destroyed by the Great Fire of 1666. In 1660 Christopher Wren lectured at the inauguration of the Royal Society, the society appears in parody in Gulliver's Travels as the Academy of Projectors in the land of Balnibari, where experiments of an impractical nature are performed. EIN FILMPROGRAMM VON 1902 BIS HEUTE KURATIERT VON MIRJAM BAKER (KÜNSTLERIN UND FILMEMACHERIN) UND DANIEL KOTHENSCHULTE (FILM- UND KUNSTKRITIKER)

  Der Mond, für den Schriftsteller Heiner Müller hätte man ihn nie betreten dürfen. „Der Mond wäre für mich etwas, das man nicht anfassen sollte. Das sollte man einfach so stehen lassen, wie es ist.“ Aber natürlich ist dieses Lamento, aufgezeichnet in einem kleinen Film von Alexander Kluge, ein Wehklagen über verschüttete Milch. Vor genau 50 Jahren wurde der Mond, dieses Heiligtum aller Romantiker, zum ersten Mal betreten. Mit Schuhen sogar, den später berühmten Moon Boots. Dieses Ereignis feiert die Galerie Parrotta Contemporary auf Burg Lede mit einem Filmabend. Kuratiert von Mirjam Baker und Daniel Kothenschulte, ergänzt er die aktuelle Ausstellung „From the Rocket to the Moon“ um eine Reise in den Orbit zwischen Film und Kunst. Neben Kluge darf dabei auch der früheste Mondfahrer des Kinos nicht fehlen, der Stummfilmzauberer Georges Méliès, der schon 1902 den Mond bereiste. Weitere Trickfilmpioniere im Programm sind Max Fleischer („Koko’s Earth Control“, 1928) und John Hubley („Moonbird“, 1959).  Kenneth Anger, der heute 92-jährige Veteran des Avantgardefilms erfand bereits 1950 seinen eigenen „Rabbit’s Moon“. Das Designer-Paar Charles und Ray Eames ist mit dem sphärischen Kultfilm „The Power of 10“ im Programm vertreten.  Auch im Avantgardefilm der Gegenwart erweist sich der Mond als Sehnsuchstort: Die junge Berliner Trickfilmkünstlerin Gudrun Krebitz wird persönlich ihren Film „Exomoon“ (2015) vorstellen.  Bis heute hält sich das auch Gerücht, dass die Apollo-11-Mission in einem Fernsehstudio stattfand. Das kann daran liegen, dass Wernher von Braun die technischen Abläufe einer möglichen Mondfahrt bereits 1955 vor einer Disney-Kamera enthüllte. Wie sehr der Griff nach den Sternen gerade in der Nachkriegszeit die kindlichen Kino-Phantasien beflügelte, zelebrieren Christoph Girardet und Matthias Müller in ihrem schwelgerischen Filmkunstwerk „Meteor“, das 2011 im Wettbewerb beim Filmfestival Venedig Premiere hatte. Ganz gleich, ob sich gegenwärtige Pläne für eine neue Mond-Mission noch konkretisieren – dem treuen Erdtrabanten wird auch die Filmkunst stets die Treue halten.
