Moreau-Josten Rivalry can be something so personal…there’s 10,000 fanvids on youtube of Kevin and Jean being asked about playing each other again on different teams in interviews, but no one stops to consider the 5’3” striker pulling Kevin around. Which works out better anyway in the end!! The first time a fan catches Jeremy out on the street and asks him about playing Nathaniel Wesninski, someone scoffs in the background of the video and the camera turns to watch Jean rolling his eyes. Neil gets his own Twitter on Matt’s smartphone just to post, “@/jereknox i heard you got a dog” with a photo of Jean’s #29 jersey attached. When a courtside reporter mentions Grayson of the Ravens is related to Lucas of the Trojans, Neil swoops in to drag Jean away, holding him by the sleeve and chattering about the game. When they’re announced as Olympians together before the others, Neil mails Jean a pro Josten jersey, and Jeremy posts the video of Jean, unimpressed, opening the box. Commercials are paying to feature both of them, there’s RPF fic, Andrew reaches out to Jeremy as a reluctant ally in the “keeping our idiots out of trouble so we can keep playing Exy” campaign. Andrew and Jeremy’s Twitter conversation about teaching Kevin to cook blows up, and Neil and Jean both repost with their own recipes, making the thread so long Jeremy has to turn off reposts because he’s getting complaints from fans. andrew minyard goes pro and gets a lot of tickets for random sports matches/games he never attends, but one day, three years into his pro career, red bull extends an invitation to him to be in their garage for the us gp (cota, texas), and andrew surprises his pr manager by saying yes on the spot

and at the same time mclaren extends neil an invitation for him to be in their garage for the same gp, and he couldn't care less about racing, but he accepts it because he knows andrew is going and they want to see each other after months apart, being on different teams and all

this is at the peak of the minyard-josten rivalry and fans are concerned about them fighting on the paddock but instead they're spotted walking around the paddock together several times

it's also at the peak of our current max-lando championship fight (rbr-mcl) and it only serves to fuel the fans conspiracy theories but the reality is that andrew is literally trying to explain the rules and format of the race weekend and neil giving him heart eyes because andrew sounds really excited about it

I gotta say, the premise in many Minyard-Josten Rivalry fics where a lot of the miscommunication is that Neil and Andrew flirt or talk about mundane shit to each other in Russian and the media/fans just think they're being mean, spiteful, and antagonistic is like,,,

What, no Exy fans on earth speak Russian??? No Exy fans hear them speaking Russian to each other on camera and hunt down Google Translate??? Andrew through the years rarely does press if he can help it. With the occasional interview or mandatory photoshoots not much is known about the pro goalie. So because of the mystery surrounding his life fans love making up stories and narratives based off of little tidbits of information they get.

Andrew is seen with animal hair on his arm band? Fans say he has a pet tiger that he raised from birth to guard his house

A tattoo is seen poking out from under his wrist guards? It’s a bad ass portrait of him killing Kevin Day is a fist fight.

Andrews true fans know they are all jokes but anyone who genuinely thinks he’s super mean just because he doesn’t smile or talk much think they are all true.

Andrew on the other hand would never admit to it but he loves that this is his fan base. He somehow through limited social media interactions amassed a fan base with exactly his sense of humour. Andrew occasionally will let something ominous slip to see what they will come up with. His favourite fact so far is that his so called rivalry with Neil started when Andrew bested Neil in a sward duel in his second year with the foxes. Said duel ending with Andrew slicing off Neil’s arms, they had to be mechanically put back on. That’s the reason Neil began to wear matching wrist bands in order to hide his cyber arms. Neil on the other hand hates this rumour.

Neil: I’m just saying Andrew the times lines don’t even line up!! AND there is no way you would best me in a sward fight!!

Andrew: You’re yelling again cyber junkie

Ok ok ok so

It’s the height of the minyard josten rivalry drama and some sports news show manages to convince them to do a live interview 

And so they’ve got 2 of those little individual couch chairs things that seat like one person (you know the ones I’m talking about)

But because they are dramatic little bitches Andrew has decided to just like drape dramatically across Neil’s chair so he’s basically sitting in Neil’s lap (don’t question me I have A Vision)

And obviously the interviewer has like

some questions

But they try to keep it professional until they finally ask something like: so Andrew what do you think of Neil?

And Andrew

who is basically sitting in Neil’s lap (neither of them have acknowledged this) just looks straight at the interviewer and says: Oh what Josten? Can’t stand the guy.

And then just says nothing else for the rest of the interview

something i am obsessed with as a concept is the public somehow finding out that neil is with one of the minyards, but not knowing which one.

reporters have asked them both about the rumours, hoping for clarification of which minyard, but aaron's reaction is always just visceral rage and disgust so potent it renders him speechless, which to the media has the same effect as andrew's staring.

Just the fact that the "minyard-josten rivalry/ josten-minyard rivalry" is so well-known in the fandom that there is an actual tag on ao3 about it, like, I understand it, I respect it, I love it, but most of all,

I get it.

so i dont know if in the us its same or not but for the sake of this we are pretending it is, but teams have "classics" you see, another team that is supposedly their hard-core rival, like the rivalry between the two is insane. fans hate eachother, the games are the most watched of their seasons, players changing to that exact team of all is a betrayal, etc. the thing is that usually, both teams are in the same city.

so imagine if once they go pro, neil and andrew play for the classic of each other teams. living in the same city but playing for the most opposite of all oppositors. the minyard-josten rivalry would go insane
