So some of you may know this, but my next fic that was set to release was originally called “Ballad of a Teenage Dream” and was a Wednesday x Skam crossover that showcased all the highs and lows of high school and the growing pains that come with the transition from teenager to young adult.

Well that story has been reworked, overhauled, and given new life.

I present to you my high school dramady, In Technicolor.

Set in Los Angeles, California, the story follows two groups of friends as their worlds collide. A modern spin on the social dynamics of Romeo and Juliet where two factions are warring but cannot remember why or why their bitter rivalry is so important to their identity, In Technicolor highlights the feuding of the wealthy and the everyday citizens to show the consequences that come from stripping culture and history from the city streets in the name of gentrification. It explores the complex relationships of families on either side of the fence to reveal that wealth does not always bring happiness. And finally, at the center of it all, the complicated friendships and relationships of the members of these two groups as they meld into one.

For our East LA champions, we follow the Addams siblings and their mismatched group of skateboarders, graffiti artists, musicians, and street racers.

For our Palisades elite, we focus on the Blossoms and Galpin’s—two families from extreme wealth that are not entirely honest about what they show the world.

Important Story Information: If the visuals were not enough to give it away, this story will be a crossover with a different fandom. Entering the mix is the ensemble from Riverdale. I do want to caution readers now, there will be crossover pairings, character retcon on both sides, ageing up, ageing down, and changes to character personalities.

One such example is that Wednesday isn’t allergic to color and isn’t entirely unapproachable. She smiles and laughs but only when around those she trusts like her family and friends. Pugsley has been aged up and is Wednesday’s twin brother. My face claim for this version of Pugsley is Xolo Mariduẽna and I have made Pugsley (who also will be going by “Lee”) more confident and hotheaded with some snark and sass. Second to that, my face claim for Pubert “Bertie” Addams is Malachi Barton and Pubert/Bertie will be one year younger than his siblings—the twins Wednesday and Pugsley age 17 and in their senior year and Bertie age 16 entering his junior year.

On the Riverdale side of the crossover, I have made certain changes that I don’t want to reveal just yet for Archie’s character. That surprise will come soon enough because next I will be posting moodboards for specific couples that will be at the center of this story. But one change I will discuss now to get it out there to avoid hate comments and harassment is the issue of is Cheryl bi or is she a lesbian. In my story, she’s bi and will be paired with a male lead. I understand that the actress for her character went back and forth on Cheryl’s orientation but, to me, Cheryl reads like a chaotic bisexual that goes back and forth on her identity because being bi is confusing enough. And as someone who is bi, I would like to see more representation and fiction for people like myself because fandoms are so quick to erase bisexuality and pansexuality and criticize us when we speak up about it. So in this story, Cheryl is bi and she has broken up with her most recent girlfriend before meeting her next partner who is a man. And it’s fine.

If this upsets you, just swipe off of this post. Don’t leave mean comments or take digs at me because I’m not for any of this fandom infighting nonsense. It’s fiction and these characters can be whatever you want them to be in your stories.

However, if you don’t mind Cheryl liking both men and women, you don’t have an opinion either way, or your curious to see how this’ll pan out, stay tuned. I’d love to share this story with you. All are welcome so long as things stay civil and breezy.

Christ. Okay. There's gonna be some rarepairs and some crackships on here and I'm not going to apologize.

Cheryl Blossom/Veronica Lodge (Riverdale) - Sorry not sorry putting this number one. I've been on this train for over half a decade. I feel like I have a red string board about how the narrative implicitly connects them but the writers are cowards. Justice for Camila Mendes, who spent seven seasons trying to kiss women and the writers kept putting her back in straight relationships.

Dinah Lance/Zatanna Zatara (DC Comics) - This is explicitly the comics canon, because I don't think they've really interacted in any other forms. Admittedly this one has less to do with the ship and more the fact that Zatanna is my pathetic bisexual wet cat and no one at DC seems interested in examining her trauma through anything besides her relationships with men.

Sam Carpenter/Kirby Reed (Scream) - God. The wasted potential here. The Scream franchise has never written a protagonist that wouldn't be better as a lesbian. The shared trauma. The height difference. Can they both get some goddamn rest.

Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler (Stranger Things) - This one has dropped to four because of my umbrage with the fandom in general, which I know I don't need to explain to you. But besides Natalia and Maya having so much chemistry, Robin being the only one who consistently listens to Nancy and vice versa is so important to me.

Yelena Belova/Kate Bishop (Marvel Cinematic Universe) - Once again, specifically in the MCU. Again, Hailee and Florence have such amazing chemistry, and their relationship is the natural successor to Clint and Nat. I can't wait to see how the MCU wastes their potential!

Hazel/PJ (Bottoms) - RIP to everyone who loves Josie and Isabel, but you can't give me a local dirtbag and a cringefail butch and not expect me to smoosh their faces together like Barbie dolls.

Kate Bishop/America Chavez (Marvel Comics) - The MCU already decided they didn't want this one by aging America down and Kate up, but this was the ship that originally got me onto Tumblr. They're still kicking ass and taking names forever in my heart.

Betty Cooper/Donna Sweett (Riverdale) - I just think she (bitchy prep school brunette with big eyes) is pretty neat, ok?

Sansa Stark/Margaery Tyrell (A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones) - They hate to see one girlboss winning, much less two. In a different world, they are Cheronica in a different font. Stop booing me, I'm right.

Laura Kinney/Marc Spector (Marvel Comics) - Are they an M/F ship? Sure are! Have they ever interacted in canon? I don't think so! But this one I can explain - when I did Marvel PBP, my Moon Knight ended up romancing X-23 and now I desperately need them to interact. Their dates mostly involved patching each other up and talking about their trauma.

the consensus seems to be that gay sex would not fix either of them (hiram or archie). would anything?

look it depends on who they’re having gay sex with. i think if archie had gay sex (was gay en géneral) with jughead, i think that would’ve fixed him. archie is fundamentally a representation of ideal american masculinity (white, “straight”, strong+hot) with the added on characteristic of being a Good Guy. it tracks that archie’s prime directive is To Protect. protect who? his father, his mother, his girlfriend, his friends, gay kevin, etc. 90% of the story is moved by the fact that archie wants to protect people. hell, even the thing with grundy is in the ballpark of “protect/save/rescue” because she had an abusive husband (?) (i don’t remember). mostly, each season has archie’s rescue+protect instinct running through it all times. considering all of this, it makes sense that archie usually has a girl on his arm - someone that he can “protect” (not in the way that reddit incels fantasize about putting a woman in a saw trap so they can save her, but in a genuine, sort of expressing-his-affection kind of way.)

unfortunately betty and ronnie are both pretty independent women, as are josie, valerie, tabitha and most of the other women archie encounters. which means whenever archie is in a relationship with one of these women, he’s fundamentally standing on the side unable to really do anything. it’s why reggie+veronica don’t work out either in the end, in line with the idea that reggie is essentially a darker mirror of archie.

but you know who ISNT an independent girlboss? jughead! from day one jughead’s story has been attached to archie - from the moment archie didn’t show up for the trip, jughead started seething and frothing at the mouth thinking about archie and girls. even then, jughead does not go on the trip. jughead does not do anything, actually, unless he is partnered with one of the other riverteens. betty in season one, toni in season 2, archie in season 3, betty&archie in season 4, etc. jughead, left to his own devices, becomes the wettest most pathetic boywaif ever known to man. he camps out in a drive-in theater projection box. he lives in a cupboard under the school stairs. he gets beat to near-death. he gets beat to near-death again. he gets buried alive, conked on the head, fake-murdered, eaten by rats? made deaf? and whatever the hell else goes on with jughead. jughead exists in a perpetual state of distress, a Someone Who Needs Saving.

arguably, this is perfect for archie. archie needs someone to love him completely without him having to change anything about himself, and there is no one more devoted to the idea of archie than jughead. jughead, on thé other hand, needs someone to stick by him unconditionally, without abandoning him for “something better”. there is, quite literally, no one who embodies man’s best friend (see when i say man i mean it; the instances of him cheating on ronnie are. well) better in the entire town. archie would provide jughead with someone to protect+serve, and jughead would provide archie with someone who loves him no matter how “bad” he gets. unstoppable force x immovable object ygm

hiram, on the other hand. gay sex in the hirarchie dynamic would not fix anything for either party, i fear. i do think hiram is aggressively “male”, the same way that archie is, but in a bad light. there is obviously the racial angle there: mark consuelos is mexican, and hiram is implied (?) to be cuban (?). obviously he contrasts archie very significantly, who is the all-american teenage boy, to hiram’s latam-immigrant-drug-dealer-cartel-leader thing. inherently the story says that all of archie’s “acts of aggression” are either for good, pure reasons, or they’re “mistakes”. hiram’s aggression on the other hand is always villainous - it’s the rules of the context riverdale is set in. (this is obviously in line with their character histories, i’m just pointing out the obvious, because the racial context does indeed matter.) “corrupting outsider” being a brown man does in fact get turned on its head in the last season when the thesis of the show is stated outright “the threat is here, at home, in wholesome, suburban america”. but still. hiram existing to follow genre conventions contrasted against archie who is following his own genre conventions is just interesting to me. point being that i think gay sex to hiram would be like the homosexuality of greek military legend or homosociality taken to the next level (i.e. women are for having children.) i think fundamentally he wishes veronica had been a son; i think that hermione and veronica (and hermosa) having a majority role in his life makes him long for the male-only spaces of the mob - in the sauna, in the private meetings, in that one scene where he brings archie into his study and shuts the doors on veronica. i think perhaps fishing-trip-esque homosexual relations for hiram might fix him, in the way that beating up people in dark alleys “fixed” his “disease” in s4, but between hirarchie it would only further sexually traumatise poor archie and severely depress hiram.

(i think also half the fun of archie, to hiram, is the fact that he cannot stop him, so he keeps having to take bigger swings at archie. if in-show he really did want to take advantage of archie for sex reasons alone, it wouldn’t have been hard considering archie was already very vulnerable. this is not to say that hiram did not use the same tactics as grundy - trust/secrecy/validation - but it was for a different outcome. hiram’s prime directive is competition - to have archie under his thumb so completely would have bored him.)

the inherent comedy of “mob boss in competition with his teenage daughter’s boyfriend” is really lost if it turns into something sexual; to me it just becomes tragic and has some really disturbing connotations vis a vis the racial context of the whole setup.

ANYWAY what i think would REALLY fix the both of them is daily affirmations and recreational wood-chopping. channel that “masculine rage” into something productive. go chop some firewood for the murder chalet in the woods!

“Ok. Thanks, Betty.” You muttered as you hung up. Veronica stood up and waited as you turned and put the phone back on the wall. Pop stopped what he was doing and leaned on the counter, ignoring a customer for a moment.

“Well!” Veronica demanded.

“They found her. Betty said they’re taking her to the hospital and that she couldn’t say anything else for sure.” You explained quietly.

“Here. You two take this and get there right away. Tell people I’ll stay open late and ask if any food needs to be sent to the search party.” Pop said as he went to the till and counted out enough notes to pay for a cab. He called for one and spoke to the driver as if they were friends. The cab driver dropped you outside the hospital entrance, waiting until you were both inside. The building was in chaos. Injured people everywhere. Missing people being rushed to rooms or doctors being summoned. Veronica left you to speak to Betty as you continued through the crowd without stopping and searched for her. 

“(Y/N)!” Archie called. You turned and saw him down a busy corridor. Rushing down to him you saw her in a bed. Her family surrounded her at the bedside as they fussed over her.

“How is she?” You asked.

“She woke up a few minutes ago. She seems stable so they’re having her wait for any scans so more urgent cases can go first.” Archie didn’t speak unkindly but it was clear that he was upset that she wasn’t being seen too.

“Hey.” You said quietly as you approached. Considering she and several other people had been kidnapped by Riverdale’s latest psycho, she looked better than you had feared. She gave you a weak smile and reached for your hand as everyone moved around her bedside to give you space.

"I bet you lost some sleep thinking about me." She said quietly and laughed weakly as you sighed and let out a laugh in disbelief.

“That’s what you’re worried about!” You scolded and she smiled. You sat down and smiled at her grasping her hand tightly as you prepared to take up vigil beside her hospital bed.

The rest of the serpents had gone off. There was some kind of Halloween event going on. You didn’t feel like going anywhere. You weren’t the biggest fan of Halloween and had stayed behind. There was supposed to be a movie marathon at the drive-in later on. 

“Knock knock.” Josie said as she knocked on the open door of your caravan. It was large enough for two people and thanks to FP and Archie helping you attach some hookups to the caravan you could move it around with your old car. At least you could once the bumper was reattached.

“Hey?” You said and looked up from the magazine you’d been looking through.

“I just wanted to check in on you. You weren’t at the Halloween bash earlier.” Josie smiled as she came up the steps into the caravan and looked up at the single Halloween decoration hanging from the ceiling. It was a red bat that Cheryl had put up. Josie remembered the difficulty of getting it to stick.

“I’m fine. Just taking advantage of the lack of drama going on.” You grinned when she nodded and leaned against the doorframe.

“That’s a good plan.” She hummed to herself for a moment as you sat up and stretched. "You’re coming with me and we’re having a scary movie marathon."

“A scary movie marathon?” You asked as she reached out and pulled you up from your seat.

“Yes! We’re going to eat popcorn and scream at the jumpscares and spill our sodas. It’ll be fun. So get ready because we’re going.” She insisted. You gave in fairly quickly and she helped you lock up the caravan. Shrugging on your jacket the two of you took your old car to the drive-in. As you got through the gate your car stalled and wouldn’t start. People behind you started beeping and honking. You and Josie laughed as you got out and tried to push the car. Archie, Veronica and Toni came over from near the concessions stand and helped you push. 

“I’m not sure how you’re going to get back home.” Josie said as you only managed to push the car to the side but not any further. Jughead stood on top of a car at the side of the viewing area and saved you both over. They helped you climb up and you sat with Josie under a blanket as the movies started. Fangs sent up a couple of drinks and snacks for the two of you and refused to take any money for them. You and Josie squeezed close together and jumped, squealed and accidentally flung popcorn everywhere when the scare bits leapt across the screen.
