Joshua: You know what? I like you. I like the whole "you do your thing and I do mine" kinda relationship we have.
Six: I can tell you with 99% certainty that no one else on the planet earth feels that way.
Daniel: I could be that 1%.
Graham: Do not give me hope.

Secret Martin ship.... Melanie's friend Andy? Is that anything?
you know what, i’m actually going to cave and throw you guys a bone: andy IS something! but only short-term interest number one, because martin is a chad and my timeline goes a while before the endgame kicks in. sometimes casual nice things happen before the epic tragic romance! and we love that for him. we love this a little less for melanie because she’s going to have to deal with it since she lives with them now 😂
i’m going to concisely list the other guesses under the cut.
here’s all the old asks, but i’m re-typing them easier to read.
[REDACTED] (15) - PEOPLE DID GUESS HIM! but i am not telling<3
mike crew (5) - a very popular guess but nope! he does not give enough of a shit to date anybody lettuce bee reel.
oliver (3) - counting a guess on ao3! nope. not rowdy enough.
...martin (2) - self love... i’m amused enough by this one to keep it especially since this whole thing happened before he talked to Martin 2.0 in season 5 LMFAO. G-D... you may not be PBR prophets but you ARE prophets nonetheless.
jared hopworth (2)
graham folger (2)
timothy hodge (3) - got another guess for him after he showed up in the text itself which makes SENSE now that he’s got more of a personality but nope, that’s actually what disqualifies him! secret man shows up in the next chapter.
jordan kennedy (2)
jan kilbride (2)
anatomy students/john doe (2)
brian the spider guy (2)
andre rameo (2) - homophobic vase guy! poor dude. no new husband for you, or at least not this one
georgie’s shopska salad guy (1) - props for this one ngl
benoit the beetle guy (1)
an OC of mine (1)
gerry (1) - the ACTUAL initial reason for there being a new ship is that i Cannot ship him with gerry here
tim (1) - the ship is literally gerry/tim, and thus, no,
jon (1) - it would not be a secret if it was jon! it’d also be ooc and not good for them in the same way as it is in canon, here. jon’s got plenty else going on, too! i will tell you that they hit it off as friends a lot faster here since jon has No actual reason to split the way he did in canon. fun!
sasha (1) - he is a whole entire homogay
salesa (1) - too old don’t guess old people please :’-(
joshua guillespe (1)
evan lukas (1)
dominic swain (1)
breekon OR hope (1) - no! he is not a homewrecker! the accusation...
one of the fucking mechanisms (1) - why would i ever,
sergey ushanka (1) - by far the wildest one
michael shelley/distortion (1) - absolutely the unholy fuck not<3
alfred grifter (1) - my g-d jhbkn
carlos vittery (1)
diego molina (1) - :-(
raymond fielding (1) - :-(
*andy cain (1) - DING DING! you got 1/2 of martin’s intended boytoys. their relationship is pretty much limited to casual sex and acquaintanceship before it ends.
mateo james (2) - our OC for sasha’s brother. adorable but nope!
sebastian skinner (1)
ethan taylor (1) - guy from lost in the crowd apparently
pharos (1) - nope! that breaks the “no gerry x martin” rule and also they do not see eye to eye enough to even be friends, honestly
daniel rawlings (1)
john fellows (1) - literally said “whom.” OH other anglerfish victim okay coolcool yeah no i forgot he existed
if you really want to keep guessing, i might not publish/will just update the asks & this one! i certainly won’t publish if you guess correctly. even if you guess, you won’t be able to predict my actual PLANS for them, so it’s fine, but i still want it to surprise as many people as possible! i’m still interested in seeing if anyone gets it right after the fact, but i'm going to once again remind you of the hints i already gave:
not a one off statement giver
not a woman
not an OLD GUY
a little bit monster-y
edit! people have asked for more conditions and so it’s also:
someone who IS in a statement somewhere
someone mentioned in my stuff before

NEVER DIE. NEVER WIN. ETERNALS.
What’s the point of an eternal battle?
For millions of years, one hundred Eternals have roamed the Earth, secret protectors of humanity. Without them, we’d be smears between the teeth of the demon-like Deviants. Their war has waged for all time, echoing in our myths and nightmares.
But today, Eternals face something new: change. Can they – or anyone on Earth – survive their discovery?
From the thought provoking minds of Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine, Uncanny X-Men, Thor) and Esad Ribić (Secret Wars, King Thor) comes a new vision of the classic Marvel mythology!

Not solid, but I pose an idea of ex-lovers (who are toxic) Joshua and Caesar end up meeting again and shit happens. This is ramble with some scene, but it's getting a feel for if this is a demanded market. (Hehe, I'm in business bitches)
After Six gets the Sorrows out of Canaan, Joshua has to face the very real possibility of facing Caesar again. Or at the least, his men. Now, Joshua was no stranger to legionaries wandering too far from home even in New Canaan, but they were normally taken out quickly. He didn't like looking down upon a reflection of his old life.
It was like looking at a mirage in the distance but up close it wasn't real. It was a bite of his past that had sewn whispers into his ears and tugged at each little path in his mind.
Daniel would watch him get like that. Joshua wasn't someone to get antsy, although impatient and at times acted rash, he was grounded more over not.
But when they leave the walls of New Canaan, the man that Joshua turned into when fleeing to that safe place is branded to the world he ran from.
He leads the Sorrows and Dead Horses with David. He has no protection from the scorching sun except the bandages that tightly fasten his wounds. They both watch on to the shadow of Six whose image feels like just another Mirage to Joshua.
It doesn't feel good to be back. Daniel can't deny that either. He had wanted to lie and keep them safe, and now Joshua is facing the thoughts just as rash as his actions.
The next few months are filled with whispers and rumor of the Legion. They may have escaped the White Legs, but now they're just off the cusp of the war between the NCR and a force Joshua regrets ever calling home.
Daniel takes care of morale, he always has. But now Joshua is even more wrapped up in his thoughts to do much else than sit around.
What he had, or, what he didn't have, with Caesar is constantly on his mind. But really, he had no reason to fear. He had his men, he had Daniel, Six, and highest of all, his Savior.
The further they get through New Cali the thoughts in his mind shift from fearing Caesar to envying him. It's a twist that he has to pull himself out of in order to resist an old life he now has no wall (more or less physical) to keep him focused on the now.
That's when the bombs drop. It forces them back down a road they'd already walked, and regresses a huge chunk of their progress.
They're NCR. Caesars Legion moves the direction they do, driven by the bombing to cross the same path almost comically.
Joshua's last guards of anonymity are his wounds and the reliance of new legionaries knowing him only as a legend. But you never want to be faced with a part of your past that you hate. Joshua knows even with all the Sorrows and Dead Horses, the Legion could easily throw them in if they deemed them to be enough of a threat.
And the Legion would be stupid not to take in the group of wanderers looking like Cazadors out of the Mojave sand.
The Legion takes in their newfound "guests" and the drop in Joshua's stomach has him praying for the mercy of God when they're dragged back to that camp. Daniel faced a cell across from him, watching Joshua fidget. The first time he's seen Joshua so... Nervous.
"Which one of you lot is in charge of this little... Party??" One of the legionnaires steps forward to assert himself. Daniel goes to stand but Joshua reaches over to grab his belt loop.
"You're looking at him." Joshua spoke without hindrance.
The legionary stepped forward across the dusted crop of space and pushed open the cell with a loud scrape. It stung his ears as he listened but when prompted by the legionary, he followed.
"Joshua-" Daniel faintly whispered but Joshua shushed him with a motion of his hand. The legionary grabbed his arm tightly, sinking his palm around the wounds that comprised his flesh. "You have a duty to report to the Legion of any coming and going activity."
"The Legion doesn't own the world, far from it." Joshua said, being careful of his tongue.
"You're in Legion territory, friendo. And around here? Everyone is under Caesar."
The name makes him grit his teeth. He watches each step they take across the hot long. Across the rocky steps and winding paths through guards and gates. Far from his friends, and closer to something familiar.
Two guards stood at the gate as they entered past the strong wooden defense, their eyes lingering on Joshua's complexion as they walked.
The legionary motioned to some others who came over quickly. One of the men reached for Joshua's back pocket, squeezing and grabbing the gun hidden below his belt.
"Safety's on in Legion Camp. I know you understand."
Joshua huffed, but refused to say anything.
The legionary continued to take him up on campus. Past the large tents and training posts for recruits. Mongrels wandered by their master's heels, their jaws lined with thick saliva as they growled at Joshua.
He hated those things. Skin and bones but pack a mean bite, teeth able to sink in and rip you apart. And if they didn't do that, they left you unable to get away, and let you die slowly.
The legionary nudged him further up the steps until they reached the large tent with two guards on either side. Joshua felt his blood go cold. Despite the sun beating down on him and the sweat starting under his gear, the old sight of a crimson tent barely covering the bloodshed that splattered across the inside walls.
Of feeling hands on his bare skin as he was rewarded for doing good service to the Legion. Praised for his linguistic skills and being told to cry in another language, just to make it fun.
"G on." The legionary pushed him, and Joshua forced his feet to move.
"Lord your God be with me even in my trial..." Joshua whispered. "He leads me to soft waters and lays me in green pastures.." He continued to whisper, and finally pushed the tent folds open.
The guards on either side gripped their spears when he entered. Joshua stood, shaded away from the sun.
Mongrels growled, but did nothing more than lick their paws of dust and grime.
He looked at the end of the tent, across from him. Sat on his throne with two guards on either side was a man he hoped he'd never have to face again. He sat back, confident with his knees apart and one hand rested in his lap, tracing his thumb over a Legion Denarius.
"Ave." The legionaries at his throne stand watch as Joshua stepped into the scorching threshold.
"We found the lot wandering into Legion territory, they're apprehensive to share their business with our checks." The legionary who brought Joshua said before stepping back.
Caesar looked at Joshua, his eyes wandered down from his blue eyes to his feet. That felt like the worst part. A piece of meat all over again, devoured in more ways than one.
"What's your name?"
Joshua held steadfast. "In your tongue it does not fit."
Caesar shifted slightly in his chair. "And where do you come from?"
"A past, where we come from is our business, and where we are going is the same." He kept his voice level despite looking deep into those eyes. Strong, masculine stature, handsome face, strong, weathered hands. He remembered those hands, used for more than just handling a spear. They took the oxygen from his lungs, quite literally.
If he were to remember all the rough nights of fighting without real hurt or yelling until their voices became numb, he'd be there quite a while.
Caesar grinned slightly, tossing the Denarius in his palm. He motioned to dismiss the legionary who brought him and extended his heel from his chair to express he wasn't uncomfortable.
"While I respect every man's privacy, I'd suggest you tell me where you're going, as of now, the NCR has been driving in more of its recruits, and I can't trust that I won't find you or your supposed men on their side."
"We have fought long enough. We have no intent of fighting any more. We have no real set destination, only a place away from the war." Joshua replied.
Caesar hummed and stood. He slowly walked over, and Joshua was reminded of where he stood against the man. Cold spears in one direction, his old flame in the other.
Caesar looked down at him, then the vest. He chuckled in amusement and brushed his thumb over the old thing. "What did you say your name was?"
"I didn't.."
Caesar nodded. He frowned and ordered the guards from the room. And in confusion they quickly filed out, closing the tent again.
Caesar's hand brushed across Joshua's throat and squeezed it. Joshua reached up and grabbed Caesar's wrist, attempting to pry him away.
"Do you think I'm a fool!?"
Joshua chokes. He tried to dig his heel into the hard ground as Caesar tore him from his place and dragged him.
"Edward-" He choked, letting his tongue slip. Caesar grinned with a twisted expression and threw Joshua back against the throne. Caesar bent over him and grabbed his spear. Joshua shifted, remaining with his back digging into the edge of the sharp chair.
"Joshua..."
His eyelids fluttered and he looked down, the way Caesar said his voice made Joshua want to cave. Lord give me strength.
His eyes drew down, unable to plant his focus firmly on either the ground or Caesar's strained pants. His heart started to pick up in pace and Caesars free hand stroked Joshua's head.
"I watched you fall..."
"Didn't see me die.. did you?" He choked.
Caesar's grin didn't leave, Joshua knew it was out of strain, no other expression was able to fully encapsulate his rage.
"And now you crawl back to me on your hands and knees, isn't that funny." Caesar tilted Joshua's head up, pushing him back against the throne, making Joshua groan.
Caesar planted his knee between Joshua's legs and watched the man struggle. Something was different about him, and yet, he was still little Joshua Graham.
Caesar reached and tore away some of the bandages, seeing Joshua's skin healing. A part of him twisting in satisfaction of the hurt he's caused, another wanting to play savior.
"What should I do with your little friends, Joshua?"
Joshua groaned. He squirmed and grabbed Caesar's wrist to try and let up on him. "Let them go."
Caesar leaned closer, their lips were inches apart, his warm breath fanned over Joshua's face, making him feel faint and the stirring in his stomach dropped below his belt.
"And what about you?"
Joshua looked up, his eyelids fluttered again faintly and his shoulders dropped. Caesar stroked his thumb along Joshua's chin, as if taunting him with a possible visit to the past.
"Do whatever you want... Just let my people go."
A tense moment passed before Caesar stood and grabbed Joshua again. Joshua's heels scraped against the rocky ground as Caesar personally dragged him out. The guards watched as Caesar walked down the steps with the man pressed to his chest, begging for proper air.
Caesar made it to one of the guards posts and ordered the door open. Throwing Joshua to the ground inside one of the cells. Joshua grimaced, blinking back the haziness in his vision.
"You've changed, Joshua." Caesar bent down, wiping some of the blood from Joshua's lip onto his thumb, and licking it off.
"But I've kept you in line for a long time, and a dog never forgets its tricks." He stood and the cell screeched closed.
The guards acknowledged Caesar as he left, and the room lit by a very dim oil lamp was sealed off. For now.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk. This was just a little brain worm for a possible idea in my head of ex-lovers Joshua and Caesar who have both changed, and still hate each other a lot. The idea that back in the Mojave they'll have to cross through Legion territory at some point, and Daniel is caught up in a mix of trying not to die and not tick off his buddy's crazy ex. It would be fine tuned if it ever became a thing, haha. Should I do a poll or just let y'all tell me? Please ask me about their toxic relationship, I'm insane. Bye.

Soul Meets Body Joshua Graham x Arcade Gannon
Got this idea at the ripe hour of 5:50am while talking to my artistically brilliant friend Angel @gangnome. This is loosely based on the ending of New Vegas where Arcade went exploring. I like to think he found himself fascinated with finding new reading materials. Naturally he finds himself following this bandaged hunk who at  Happy reading you precious bastards!)
I want to live where soul meets body and let the sun wrap its arms around me,
And bathe my skin in waters cool and cleansing and feel, and feel what it’s like to be new.
The reddening ex-follower had been walking for hours on end. He’d left town when his Enclave identity was revealed, only seldom did he look back. Usually he cursed the sun and the sky and the highly irradiated desertscape he found himself trapped in. His idea was simple, when put on paper. Explore and study, find a place where he can thrive on his naturally high intellect. He’d told only Six where exactly his first trip would be, definitely not because he wanted backup.
He was headed to what was left of New Canaan. As he said to Six, his trip was to sift through the wreckage for what might even resemble a book he hadn’t yet read. Through the mountain spotted areas leading into Utah he went, until an ambush of White Legs remnants proved nearly life-threatening. At the near sound of someone attacking, he was caught off guard. Losing his footing found him sliding down the hillside into a body of cold, clean water.
The sounds of a .45 pistol firing kept his attention away from the horrendous fall. Against all better judgement he sat up in the water to watch what must’ve been fourteen men get blown to pieces by one man.
“Weird flex, but okay,” sarcasm flowed naturally from the blonde man’s mouth.
“They would’ve killed you, but okay,” the burned man’s wit was just as sharp it seemed.
He helped the man up and got him to the camp. He even stayed by his side while the smock-clad man self-administered first aid. After his wounds had been cared for, the leader asked him to stay a while. They spent many hours in deep conversation. From that he learned why his ex-companion had been wary to come back. It was, honestly, unsurprising to find out his old pal Six had helped overthrow nearly the entirety of their rival gang. That was always up their alley. He adjusted his glasses before making his own proposal to the ex-legionnaire. He couldn’t talk, he’d been in the enclave since he was a child. He helped the sick in his own way, mostly by teaching others how to fix their most common issues for themselves. All-the-while affections grew between he and his newfound friend.
At first it was a common admiration. then like a miracle Arcade had found a certain, less irradiated plant that had some numbing properties. Man might think it insane but the scientist found himself the first test subject. In an era without sunblock, sunburns were seldom helped out and certain cancers enjoyed taking lives to those without some form of protection. Applying the bark along with some ash seemed to cool off those pesky burns though. Proud he found himself looking to his heavily burned friend.
“So, um,” he had no idea how to say what he needed to say. “You’re in…. Constant pain, Joshua?”
“I can handle it, why,” he didn’t even look up from his holy book.
“I discovered something that might possibly help,” how in the hell did he get nervous offering this hunk help? The world may never know.
“Absolutely not,” he shut his book, stood from his perch and walked away.
This baffled the would-be medic. “Wait, what the actual hell?”
The New Canaanite stopped, “I said no, this is my cross to bear.”
Naturally the blonde haired gent had to go follow his friend. There was no way in hell, or on Earth he would let another person suffer if he could help it. There was an old saying, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
Cause in my head there’s a greyhound station where I send my thoughts to far off destinations where they may find a chance of finding a place where they’re far more suited than here.
The crusade went on for two weeks until the older man caved. He couldn’t help cracking a smile  at the idea that anyone would gladly want to help the likes of him. On a particularly painful day he sought out the medic he’d somewhat employed. The binding bandages on his wrists towards his fingertips were the first to go as Arcade prepared his solution. If it could stop the places where rope burned into skin from stinging like death maybe he’d ask for more help.
“You ready to be subject number two in my notes,” a strange, unretractable statement the man lightly tanning man regretted instantly. “ That was… Um, Here.”
He gently took the hand of his acquainted and applied a small, rectangular-ish splotch of the sticky mixture. After it’d been painted on the reaction was nearly instantaneous. A hushed oh followed by a genuine smile inevitably met the top list. Breaking the silence himself, the bandaged man admitted.
“I expected nothing,” it was a small, pseudo-complement. “It actually stopped some of the pain.”
“You’re kidding, right,” he half expected everything he worked for to end in vain.
“For once, no, you actually helped,” yet again with the wit. It was accompanied by a grin that was nearly visible between bandages.
“Wow, finally, I can die happy tomorrow,” they shared a laugh as he realized he’d not yet let go of the charred hand he held.
That night the two sat a bit closer to eat dinner. Joshua told stories and things were oddly calming. No attacks neither animal nor tribal. The stars spotted the sky like bright freckles the moon was but a silver thumbnail up above. In the flickering firelight beneath the blanket of the endless sky the two’s conversations lasted well past the morning’s sunrise. On bedrolls, adjacent practically, they theorized everything. Each of the two men drifted off to slumber courtesy of the other’s voice.
The next day woke the acting leader after a few good hours of rest. He glanced over to the person who’d kept him company. It was unfamiliar, to feel this way about someone else after all he’d done. He had to, in his thoughts, find a way to figure out what exactly the feeling was. Like some sort of trial. He’d not the foggiest of ideas about the possibilities. When the blonde awoke there was cooked food and silent bible reading. Obviously he thanked the blue eyed food-bringer who’d been wearing onto his heart. In response the man’d been quick to pass the love onto someone else, claiming one of the Dead Horses had cooked. Protest threatened to fall from his lips at the blatant deflection of affection.
I cannot guess what we’ll discover when we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels,
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another and not one speck will remain.
An unexpected guest came and went. Turned out several of the friends he’d left back in the Mojave were a bit worried about him. An expedition lead by Six to see if the Arcade Gannon they knew was still alive and well. Luckily for him, things were more than swimmingly. Six months had come and left bringing to his feet the very man of his dreams. He, of course, hadn’t said anything about it to the person of his affection. Six pulled their friend aside, seemingly knowing everything.
“It’s Joshua isn’t it,” their years of wingmanning had given them natural insight. “You’ve got the hots for him.”
“Who the hell do you--” he began to argue then stopped himself. “Yeah, honestly I’m taken.”
“By Josh,” they’d played only to get chastised lovingly by their friend.
When they’d left taking with them the rest of their gang, he had ample time to confess his affections. Six had pretty well insisted that if he thought this was it to jump. The last part was, in the semi-professional opinion of the ex-follower, was inconceivably hard to actually do. Little did he know, the one he had fallen for, too, was in deep in the emotional department. The blue eyed, swat-vested male sat beside his childhood friend. Intensely conversing over heaven, hell, and choices the men made.
“Daniel, have you ever thought of taking a lover,” it sounded hundreds of times better in his head.
“I have, why do you ask,” it was unlike the friend he knew to talk openly of feelings. However, that’s exactly what they did.
An hour or so brought forth the kind of confidence in the ex-legate he had long since forgotten. His loving friend hand fed him a pep-talk and together they assembled a bouquet of flowers. They were to be brought by the burned man to his crush. His gifts were met with gifts of sweets from the rosy cheeked blonde. Chocolate Frosted Fancy Lads, the kind of confirmation he so clearly sought. Words couldn’t capture the beauty of the entire moment. A well needed hug, however, was an offer neither could refuse.
“You got me flowers,” first to break the silence was the handsome scientist with lacking social skills. “I don’t know what’s worse, my chocolate offerings or-” Their lips met once, then twice, breaking the sentence before it could be complete.
I do believe it’s true that there are roads left in both of our shoes,
But if the silence gets you then I hope it takes me, too.
A month found the two happy in love. Given the upcoming holiday Arcade longed to see his friends. Every year he’d spent with the courier and their friends Raul would play his guitar and sing once popular christmas songs. Lily loved to decorate the home, it was all lovely. He couldn’t wait to share these traditions with his man. The one he once dreamed would swoop him up. They’d be proud and it made him so soggy with sentiment.
He talked about them a lot to his man, as did the fiery leader about his friends and the tribals. First they’d spent three days searching nearby cities for gifts. Useful or not the forest eyed man only ever became sappy during the holidays. It was like, a hidden feature of himself only few could see. Once he’d spent well over a few thousand caps on a crapload of repairs needed in the Old Mormon Fort. The look on Julie’s face when she saw actual huts being built to replace some of the tents. From then it kind of snowballed.
“So, you’re sarcastically devoted to your friends,” asked the one he’d been info-dumping history to well into their walk home.
“Pretty much, I hate them, but they’re the greatest,” he didn’t mind clarifying as his lightly calloused hand brushed the bandaged fingers of his boyfriend’s hand.
They’d commandeered a shopping cart from the side of the cracked road to carry back supplies and gifts. Among a bit of the salvage were a few sweaters untouched for the most part save some fallout and dirt. When they arrived back to camp, the green eyed man jokingly suggested Joshua try on the sweater proclaiming ‘Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal!’ To humor his love, he actually slid it over his shoulders and head. When he turned to ask how he looked, he was met with laughter and cheers. After such a display it was only natural that the blonde man bore his sweater with a one headed radstag.
“I look ridiculous,” he couldn’t help but laugh at himself and his decisions.
“We both look ridiculous,” who was the natural leader to not laugh with his love. “It’s an everyday thing, the sweater just emboldens it.”
“You ready to head to the Mojave,” there was excitement and adventure-lust deeply lacing his tone. “Your friends are going to love this, dear.”
The road back to the strip was actually rather lax, the only things daring to step up were Viper gang members who just wanted everyone to ‘stay as far as possible the fuck away from our post’. The burned man himself saw to it that no one occupied the post anymore, all it took was one shot whizzing past Arcade’s head. The shock on that blonde man’s face when the bullet grazed by was enough rage-fuel to set the building aflame but that he did not do. For miles afterwards the usual chatter was replaced with a calm, collected silence between would be married men.
Across the state line a ways into Nevada the green eyed blonde actually spoke up, “so you know you didn’t have to kill them, right?”
“I didn’t,” he admitted in response. “Until they shot at you, then all bets, my love, were so far off.”
“Okay, but next time we could always tactically evade getting attacked,” he knew in his heart that some people just could not be reasoned with.
That being a cold hard fact never stopped the small twinge of regret he would seldom get for the fallen. There wasn’t another word until they reached New Vegas proper. It was a bit of a surprise to find that the ex-legate had never seen the strip. The best friend of Mr. couldn’t make medicines from desert plants met them near the entrance to Crimson Caravan. Upon first sight of their old doctor companion returning was like seeing the first snow of a nuclear winter, except less death and more excitement.
Hugs were passed around like a peace pipe, then they were off again to the strip. It never occured to Six that they were the sole reason some of their friends actually made it onto the strip. Next stop was the Lucky 38’s presidential suite. Inside the old casino, many decorations were being strewn about with purpose. Ed-E had the wasteland equivalent of mistletoe and was flying around with great purpose. Stopping once in a while to get his friends to smooch. For a piece of AI tech, he sure had a way of putting people together.
The day for gift exchanging was upon them, Christmas some called it. Six just called it ‘give me what you wanna and I have some stuff for you’ day. After Joshua gave his first holiday sermon to his newfound friends, the building seemed live. In the cafeteria the salvaged securitrons had a line up of actual decent food. There was enough booze to tranquilize a young deathclaw. Then, after eating well over everyone’s weight in festive goodies they finally traded presents.
From Arcade to Six was an ample amount of stimpaks and some festive combat armor. In return he received an old textbook that talked about native plantlife in the areas. Joshua had given them all bibles, jokingly. His boyfriend’s hand in his he delivered the “you’re all sinners let’s party” speech.
“Hemhem,” spoke up an old brotherhood scribe. “Where’s mine?”
The smile that spread the width of green eye’s face was gorgeous. A true treasure for those who saw it, “hold on junk junkie I’ve got what you need.” He tossed a blue and white dress her way. “Did you think I’d let my gays go without?”
“You’re a  dork, Gannon,” Veronica hugged her wouldbe wingman. “How did you know I liked the color blue?”
“Trust me, you wouldn’t want to walk around in gourd colors,” they shared more than their fair share of laughter. “Unless you’re like, into that sort of thing.”
Their sentimental shitchat was cut off halfway when the Courier brought in a runt gecko. They introduced the seemingly harmless pet, Squishy. That night was spent with great happiness. When it was time to hit the sack, it wasn’t surprising to find Joshua and Arcade comfortably snuggled up in one of the few rooms. They’d be sure to make this tradition a yearly thing. Finding the crappiest gifts possible and getting the same in return was more than anyone could ask for in the company of both boyfriend and best friends.
So brown eyes I’ll hold you near ‘cause you’re the only song I want to hear,
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere.
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere..

Congrats To The Grammys For Finally Getting Their Rock & Metal Category Figured Out
Tumblr media
Following a pretty up-and-down rollercoaster ride the past few years, the Recording Academy has seemingly gotten their stuff together when it comes to their rock and metal categories.
After dealing with an embarrassing year last year where Avenged Sevenfold publically called out the prestigious institution for their lack of support to the metal community, apparently, someone at the Academy was paying attention as this year’s nominees might be one of their best in quite some time.
For Best Metal Performance, the Grammys see a lot of new faces including Between The Buried And Me, Deafheaven, High On Fire and Trivium as well as scene staples Underoath (Underoath were previously nominated back in 2006 for Best Short Form Music Video).
As for Best Rock Performance, previous nominees like Arctic Monkeys, Cris Cornell (rest in peace) and Halestorm are accompanied by the likes of Greta Van Fleet and, surprisingly and well-deserved, FEVER 333.
Another fantastic nomination comes in the Best Rock Song category. Sandwiched between well-known household names like Ghost, Twenty One Pilots, and St. Vincent is Bring Me The Horizon and, for the second time, Greta Van Fleet.
All in all, as much as we bash on award shows for their lack of support towards our hard rock and metal community, this year the Grammys got it right. Were there other artists that deserved a nomination? Of course there were. But considering how things have been in the past (Leonard Cohen Best Rock Performance 2018, Beyonce Best Rock Performance nominee 2017, Tenacious D Best Metal Performance 2015, etc.), we’ll take it.

The Morning After... 2021 Oscars Edition
Tumblr media
Whether you liked it or hated it, at least last night's Oscars are worth talking about, which is more than I can say for any other award show this season. But there's no way to hate on Glenn Close doing "Da Butt" after telling Daniel Kaluuya he was too young to know Donna Summer trivia, now that's the mark you want to leave on Oscars history!
This year's award began in a beautiful garden party and then moved inside a train station for a cavernous yet intimate small audience feel. Largely live with overseas presenters (including the Brits gathered at BFI) broadcast with a quality signal with pros on site to make sure everyone was unmuted when they should be, and a few pre-recorded segments thrown in.
Hats off to Regina King for her stylish entrance during the classic movie opening credits, give her an award for walking all the way through Union Station in heels no less! Some people missed the comedic opening, but for all the years that those same skits/monologues incited criticisms and yawns, I think it was fine to skip the comedy for one year. Apparently it's also fine to skip the musical performances and film clips when announcing the nominees. Perhaps many will disagree, but I often take bio breaks leave the room during the song performances anyway, coupled with none of the songs making an impression on me this year, it made no difference to me.
Awards were also presented in a different order this year. By the middle of the show I was already seeing commentary about this in my Twitter but I actually thought things were going well until out of nowhere they start announcing the Best Picture nominees and I started to wonder if I'd left the room by mistake during the Best Actor/Actress awards. I haven't found any sources yet that confirm the reason for the change-up, I can only assume they were saving the Best Actor for last so we could all have an emotional cry over the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman. It turned out both the Best Actress and Best Actor awards were a bit of a surprise, we can now reconfirm our trust in PWC that NOBODY knows the winners ahead of time.
The Best Actress category hasn't had a clear frontrunner but I was personally rooting for Andra Day. I thought Viola Davis also had a good shot of winning. While Carey Mulligan's film was my favourite, I was really blown away by Day's performance. Plus I really wanted to see a BIPOC sweep in the acting categories and I think this was the year for the Oscars to do this right. Frances McDormand is always a force, but I think it was in Three Billboards that she outdid herself, and she was awarded for that. In Nomadland, she was merely 'great'.
Then came the final category of the night and we prepared for them to announce the Best Actor. I'm just going to be presumptuous and say most people were expecting Chadwick Boseman to win posthumously, but not only did they announce Anthony Hopkins name, he wasn't even in attendance/available on video conference to make a speech. The biggest night in Hollywood ended with "we accept this award on his behalf. Thank you and goodnight". I really don't think this is what Steven Soderbergh (and Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins) had in mind. I would have to agree that Hopkins really nailed his performance in The Father, and the film in general is quite an achievement (not only in acting, but in writing, editing, and set design) but I think had the producers known what would hapen, they would have stuck with the classic formula and ended things with Nomadland taking Best Picture. Sure, it would have been playing it safe, but hey, ain't nothing wrong with a classic Hollywood ending.
The acting categories were strong as always. I remarked to a friend prior to the awards, out of the films of the Actor nominees I saw Mank first and thought there was no way Gary Oldman could lose, but after seeing the rest of the films, I had changed my opinion to he didn't stand a chance. And of course there were my BIPOC (ok, every time I type this I think there should have been an Indigenous person nominated... Oscars 2022 are you listening??) acting sweep fantasies. If not Boseman, then maybe Riz Ahmed? Or Steven Yuen? To be up there with a statue alongside Youn Yuh Jung and Chloe Zhao cause "#OscarsSoAsian" has a nice ring to it.
Let's look a little closer at the winners by category:
Best Actor in a Leading Role
Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”)
Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”)
Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) (WINNER)
Gary Oldman (“Mank”)
Steven Yeun (“Minari”)
Since this was the last award, it’s forever remembered as “ruining” the Oscars. While it was not the ending we wanted (maybe it was the ending we deserved? j/k…) it’s important to note Sir Anthony Hopkins didn’t ruin the Oscars, the producers betting an entire award show finale on what they thought was a sure thing is what derailed the evening. What Hopkins did was give a phenomenal performance and subsequently became the oldest actor to be recognized in the category.
I did want Chadwick Boseman to win. I did want a teary emotional finish. I did want a person of colour to win the Oscar. But I also want millions of dollars and the ability to travel around the world right now, so, let’s keep our desires in check.
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Viola Davis (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”)
Andra Day (“The United States v. Billie Holiday”)
Vanessa Kirby (“Pieces of a Woman”)
Frances McDormand (“Nomadland”) (WINNER)
Carey Mulligan (“Promising Young Woman”)
Oh how badly did I want Andra Day to win? How amazing did I think Viola Davis was? How much did I love Carey Mulligan’s film? (and sidenote: Does Vanessa Kirby know how to smile? Forget smiling, I don’t think I saw her expression change once during the show last night?) But you gotta respect Frances McDormand who didn’t care if she won, who doesn’t need to explain herself, and advocates for Karaoke Bars at award shows.
Best Picture
“The Father”
“Judas and the Black Messiah”
“Mank”
“Minari”
“Nomadland” (WINNER)
“Promising Young Woman”
“Sound of Metal”
“The Trial of the Chicago 7”
Someone on Twitter rightly pointed out… Best Picture is a good choice to hand out last because there’s always someone there to accept it. I’m all for Nomadland winning this, but wouldn’t it have been awesome if Promising Young Woman took it for the upset of the season?
Best Original Song
“Fight for You,” (“Judas and the Black Messiah”). Music by H.E.R. and Dernst Emile II; Lyric by H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas (WINNER)
“Hear My Voice,” (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”). Music by Daniel Pemberton; Lyric by Daniel Pemberton and Celeste Waite
“Húsavík,” (“Eurovision Song Contest”). Music and Lyric by Savan Kotecha, Fat Max Gsus and Rickard Göransson
“Io Si (Seen),” (“The Life Ahead”). Music by Diane Warren; Lyric by Diane Warren and Laura Pausini
“Speak Now,” (“One Night in Miami”). Music and Lyric by Leslie Odom, Jr. and Sam Ashworth
Best Original Score
“Da 5 Bloods,” Terence Blanchard
“Mank,” Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross
“Minari,” Emile Mosseri
“News of the World,” James Newton Howard
“Soul,” Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Jon Batiste (WINNER)
I’ll never get used to seeing Trent Reznor as a multiple Oscar Winner/Nominee. (Spoken like a true Gen X-er)
Best Film Editing
“The Father,” Yorgos Lamprinos
“Nomadland,” Chloé Zhao
“Promising Young Woman,” Frédéric Thoraval
“Sound of Metal,” Mikkel E.G. Nielsen (WINNER)
“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” Alan Baumgarten
I’d read in some articles that whoever gets Editing also typically wins Sound and vice versa. Is that true? Has it always been true or is that recent? Wasn’t there recognition in Sound Editing and Sound Mixing until recent years? While Sound of Metal immediately stood out to me in Sound (I mean, would it have been truly successful if it didn’t?) I’m still not sure how it’s outstanding for its editing. The Father on the other hand, and even The Trial of the Chicago 7. I’d also like to note that David Fincher films also typically feature great editing, and so my impressions of Mank are correct and reconfirmed by its absence in this category.
Best Cinematography
“Judas and the Black Messiah,” Sean Bobbitt
“Mank,” Erik Messerschmidt (WINNER)
“News of the World,” Dariusz Wolski
“Nomadland,” Joshua James Richards
“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” Phedon Papamichael
I’m hearing from both the Oscar Pools I was part of, that I was in the minority for calling this one correctly.
Best Production Design
“The Father.” Production Design: Peter Francis; Set Decoration: Cathy Featherstone
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Production Design: Mark Ricker; Set Decoration: Karen O’Hara and Diana Stoughton
“Mank.” Production Design: Donald Graham Burt; Set Decoration: Jan Pascale (WINNER)
“News of the World.” Production Design: David Crank; Set Decoration: Elizabeth Keenan
“Tenet.” Production Design: Nathan Crowley; Set Decoration: Kathy Lucas
There’s just something about old Hollywood isn’t there? I mean most creative should definitely be The Father, and outstanding is Ma Rainey, but this is Hollywood’s night, not unusual for them to celebrate themselves. For what it’s worth, I loved the Production Design in Mank. Also in all the personal tidbits they tried to share about the nominees, the only one I remember a day later is winner Jan Pascale's dream career trajectory for me... from puppeteer for Mr Rogers to set decorating for David Fincher! Talk about living your best life!
Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Maria Bakalova (‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”)
Glenn Close (“Hillbilly Elegy”)
Olivia Colman (“The Father”)
Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”)
Yuh-Jung Youn (“Minari”) (WINNER)
This is going to come off unkind, but I never understood how Maria Bakalova made the cut once we stopped separating out Comedy and Drama categories. What can I say, I just didn’t get the appeal of the Borat sequel (I was lukewarm to first one too truth be told, but at least it was funnier)
Best Visual Effects
“Love and Monsters,” Matt Sloan, Genevieve Camilleri, Matt Everitt and Brian Cox
“The Midnight Sky,” Matthew Kasmir, Christopher Lawrence, Max Solomon and David Watkins
“Mulan,” Sean Faden, Anders Langlands, Seth Maury and Steve Ingram
“The One and Only Ivan,” Nick Davis, Greg Fisher, Ben Jones and Santiago Colomo Martinez
“Tenet,” Andrew Jackson, David Lee, Andrew Lockley and Scott Fisher (WINNER)
I haven’t looked too carefully at other smaller awards, but I feel there is a world of technical awards out there that Tenet deserves to win. I wonder if Tenet shouldn’t have gotten some recognition for Sound as well, alongside the sets, stunts, etc etc.
Best Documentary Feature
“Collective,” Alexander Nanau and Bianca Oana
“Crip Camp,” Nicole Newnham, Jim LeBrecht and Sara Bolder
“The Mole Agent,” Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibáñez
“My Octopus Teacher,” Pippa Ehrlich, James Reed and Craig Foster (WINNER)
“Time,” Garrett Bradley, Lauren Domino and Kellen Quinn
Best Documentary Short Subject
“Colette,” Anthony Giacchino and Alice Doyard (WINNER)
“A Concerto Is a Conversation,” Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers
“Do Not Split,” Anders Hammer and Charlotte Cook
“Hunger Ward,” Skye Fitzgerald and Michael Scheuerman
“A Love Song for Latasha,” Sophia Nahli Allison and Janice Duncan
Best Animated Feature Film
“Onward” (Pixar)
“Over the Moon” (Netflix)
“A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” (Netflix)
“Soul” (Pixar) (WINNER)
“Wolfwalkers” (Apple TV Plus/GKIDS)
Best Animated Short Film
“Burrow” (Disney Plus/Pixar)
“Genius Loci” (Kazak Productions)
“If Anything Happens I Love You” (Netflix) (WINNER)
“Opera” (Beasts and Natives Alike)
“Yes-People” (CAOZ hf. Hólamói)
Best Live-Action Short Film
“Feeling Through”
“The Letter Room”
“The Present”
“Two Distant Strangers” (WINNER)
“White Eye”
Best Sound
“Greyhound,” Warren Shaw, Michael Minkler, Beau Borders and David Wyman
“Mank,” Ren Klyce, Jeremy Molod, David Parker, Nathan Nance and Drew Kunin
“News of the World,” Oliver Tarney, Mike Prestwood Smith, William Miller and John Pritchett
“Soul,” Ren Klyce, Coya Elliott and David Parker
“Sound of Metal,” Nicolas Becker, Jaime Baksht, Michelle Couttolenc, Carlos Cortés and Phillip Bladh (WINNER)
Best Director
Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”)
David Fincher (“Mank”)
Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”)
Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) (WINNER)
Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”)
This has been said, but it needs to be said again (and again)… Oscar Winner Chloe Zhao is the 2nd woman in the history of the Oscars (which is nearing close to a century) to win in this category and the first woman of Asian descent. Her award announced by last year’s – also Asian – winner Bong Joon Ho. THIS is what I want to be hearing in the news about Asians. Seeing all the side by side photo comparisons of them each posing with their two Oscars is sparking so much joy in my social media feeds.
Best Costume Design
“Emma,” Alexandra Byrne
“Mank,” Trish Summerville
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Ann Roth (WINNER)
“Mulan,” Bina Daigeler
“Pinocchio,” Massimo Cantini Parrini
When you take a step back and consider Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom as a whole, the look of the entire film really does grab you doesn’t it? Well deserved win.
Best Makeup and Hairstyling
“Emma,” Marese Langan, Laura Allen, Claudia Stolze
“Hillbilly Elegy,” Eryn Krueger Mekash, Patricia Dehaney, Matthew Mungle
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Sergio Lopez-Rivera, Mia Neal, Jamika Wilson (WINNER)
“Mank,” Kimberley Spiteri, Gigi Williams, Colleen LaBaff
“Pinocchio,” Mark Coulier, Dalia Colli, Francesco Pegoretti
I said this in my twitter best... in recent years it’s finally dawned on the Academy to stop simply awarding the period films in these categories. I fully support this, I just need to remember this when I’m making Oscar Pool picks in attempts to win money.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Sacha Baron Cohen (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”)
Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Black Messiah”) (WINNER)
Leslie Odom Jr. (“One Night in Miami”)
Paul Raci (“Sound of Metal”)
Lakeith Stanfield (“Judas and the Black Messiah”)
I’d like to thank Daniel Kaluuya’s mom and dad for having sex too.
Best International Feature Film
“Another Round” (Denmark) (WINNER)
“Better Days” (Hong Kong)
“Collective” (Romania)
“The Man Who Sold His Skin” (Tunisia)
“Quo Vadis, Aida?” (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Another Round was an early favourite among audiences, I saw it back in the fall myself. I’m almost positive it’s the style of the film and a general lack of enthusiasm I have for cinema of Northern Europe (no offence, there are many exceptions but I don’t really jump out of my seat when I hear there’s a Scandinavian film festival in town) but I wouldn’t rave about this film. It’s decent but I was much more moved by Better Days (which is a Mandarin-spoken film, so I was entirely reliant on the subtitles despite it originating from HK) and much more interested in seeing Quo Vadis, Aida?
Best Adapted Screenplay
“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.” Screenplay by Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Peter Baynham, Erica Rivinoja, Dan Mazer, Jena Friedman, Lee Kern; Story by Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Nina Pedrad
“The Father,” Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller (WINNER)
“Nomadland,” Chloé Zhao
“One Night in Miami,” Kemp Powers
“The White Tiger,” Ramin Bahrani
Looking at this list, I’m reminded that Regina King should have gotten a nomination for directing. Good script but her direction brought it to life.
Best Original Screenplay
“Judas and the Black Messiah.” Screenplay by Will Berson, Shaka King; Story by Will Berson, Shaka King, Kenny Lucas, Keith Lucas
“Minari,” Lee Isaac Chung
“Promising Young Woman,” Emerald Fennell (WINNER)
“Sound of Metal.” Screenplay by Darius Marder, Abraham Marder; Story by Darius Marder, Derek Cianfrance
“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” Aaron Sorkin
I’m so happy Emerald Fennell won, over Aaron Sorkin, who’s got enough awards he can live without this one despite Trial of the Chicago 7 being some good writing. There’s something to be said about a story so triggering, wracks many with guilt (I know it did that for me, and it better have done the same for many others that I know, because we all know the things we turned a blind eye to growing up in the years that we did. We remember the things that we cannot even bare to talk to each other about now.), and we still can’t help but be in awe and consider it the best damn story of the year.
Also tipping my hat to Minari (which Chef/Restuaranteur/TV celeb David Chang so accurately describes as the real “Marriage Story”) and Judas and the Black Messiah. And the absence of Da 5 Bloods needs to be pointed out, it should’ve been nominated for Screenplay.
Sound of Metal is many things, its performances, technical achievements, and even directing are superior, but script-wise… I liked It’s All Gone Pete Tong (2004) better.
My post-Oscar ramble seems a little longer than usual (I mean, I do have a LOT more time than usual) so I won't recap my tweets of varying relevance and intelligence, you can find them all on my Twitter at https://twitter.com/palindr0me
