OMG CAN UIU DO A JOSH FROM LIV AND MAFFIE IMAGINE
She chose him (Josh Willcox x GN!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Outside the wedding that Liv planned you take notice of someone you've become very close with, Josh Willcox. He's not in his usual peppy mood, so you check on him. Pronouns: You/Yours Warnings: Angst but then Fluff Word Count: 2.2k A/N: No romance specified, it's pretty platonic, general. I might plan on a romantic part two since nothing was necessarily specified.
Liv had planned a beautiful wedding for Gemma and Johnny Nimbus, it had beautiful decorations, food, and the overall planning was stunning. The guests all had their own conversations, tears had sprung during the ceremony, speeches were read, it was…gorgeous.
Liv was appreciating her work in the back of the room, wiping a few tears as you rubbed circles into her back.
You looked over, smiling a bit, “You know,” you began, “You planned a better wedding in a week than people who have months in advance.” You told her, the blonde looking over at you and playfully rolling her eyes. She wiped her tears bashfully, “Thanks.” She chuckled breathily, smiling at the display all around her, “I am just so happy, that everyone is happy.” She told you, her glossed lips shining as she looked around with equally glossy eyes.
You nodded at her statement, moving your hand to her shoulder. The two of you stood in silence a bit, the band playing soft music, Gemma and Johnny were dancing to alone, a very sweet moment between the newlyweds. Everyone occasionally glancing at them with teary eyes and soft smiles at their friends, their family, two people they loved so much joining together in marriage.
Liv eventually excused herself with a hiccup of a giggle to be with her family to which you understood. You held your drink as she left, standing quietly and placing a hand on your neck a bit, rubbing the area ever so slightly. Though it was beautiful, there were a handful of people walking about, offering small specs of conversation before walking off, and you felt a little stuffy. To ease yourself and take a breath, you stepped outside.
The fresh scent of wet grass filled your senses and the patters of rain to concrete rushed to your ears. There was a slight breeze that moved a chill through you, but it wasn’t too much, just light rain and a small cold wind. You walked forward to the railing under the covered area outside, sighing out a breath.
“Couldn’t handle the party?” A voice asked from next to you causing you to jump out your skin a bit and clutch your chest. You looked over, one arm on the slightly wet railing and you saw a familiar face sitting on the concrete, head on the brick wall under the covered area.
Josh Willcox, your friend of a few months since he had moved to Wisconsin after getting the role of Livs love interest in the show ‘Voltage’. He looked at you with an awkward grin, raising his hand in a slight greeting.
You glared gently at him, “You scared me.” You told him, moving your hands to your sides as they swung as you walked over to him. He held both of his hands up in surrender, placing them back in his lap limply. You noticed his legs were extended so he was in a ‘L’ shape, you decided to sit next to him in the same position.
You gently smiled as you lolled your head over to him a bit, “Couldn’t handle the party?” You asked, repeating his words from a bit prior. Josh didn’t look at you but he chuckled, moving his head to the side, in the opposite direction of you. He soon fell silent, almost too quickly for someone who usually laughs a little longer at your jokes.
You guys had laughed for hours before, holding your stomachs as tears sprung your eyes, gently hitting each other to stop laughing. You understood he might’ve been tired, the party was exhausting, but he felt more closed off than how he usually is.
Your brows furrowed slightly, your smile falling a bit.  You shifted yourself so you were crossing your legs, facing him entirely, “You okay?” You asked him, waiting for his response. Josh moved his head to look forward, not at you. His eyes reflected the night sky, rain still softly pouring. He took a deep breath, messing with his hands a bit before sighing, “Yeah.” He whispered out, licking his lips and then biting the inside of his cheek.
You were unconvinced due to his body language so spoke a little softer, “Are you lying?” You asked him, head tilted a bit, your own hands in your lap now. Josh nodded with a weak smile, “Yeah.” He whispered out once again, head turning to you now, moving himself so he could sit straighter when talking to you. You sat quietly before putting a hand on his shoulder, sending a comforting rush through him, the movement causing him to shudder a bit. You opened your mouth to speak, “What’s up?” you asked, hand gently rubbing his shoulder. He closed his eyes, pulling his hands to his face before dragging them down and putting them around the back of his neck. You moved your hand on his shoulder back to your lap.
Josh was quiet for a long minute, but you sat quietly, patiently. He opened his mouth and closed it, having to take a few deep breaths. “Well, I’m,” He began, trying to find the words, sighing in between his words. “Uh, Maddie….” He struggled a bit, moving one of his hands to the concrete, the other on the back of his neck. He opened one of his eyes to look at you and you had a scrunched expression in a false sense of understanding. You nodded, “Did she rub a win in your face again?” You asked and Josh visibly winced because on a technicality, it wasn’t Maddie who rubbed a win in his face.
Josh sighed once again, his cheeks puffing out when he let the air go. He looked over at you with sad eyes, “Um…no.” He spoke simply, causing you to tilt your head in confusion, your nose still scrunched. “She…” Josh started, looking back to the stars then to his lap where both his hands now laid, “She chose Diggie.” He muttered to you.
You guys sat in silence, nothing but the rain filling the air. Your lips parted in surprise, eyes slightly widening, “Oh…” You spoke quietly, your voice barely above a whisper. Josh nodded with a weak laugh, “Yeah, um,” He tried to speak but his eyes began filling with tears. You noticed and placed his hands in yours, rubbing the backs of them with your thumbs to comfort him. “I really loved her.” He spoke, gulping harshly, breathing heavily, moving his lips inwards as he tried to stop any choked sobs from coming out. You nodded, opening your arms to him as a suggestion and he rushed his upper body forward, his arms wrapping around your torso tightly as you placed your arms around his neck. Both of your heads were in each other's shoulders, “I know you loved her, I know.” You spoke, gently rubbing the back of his neck to try and relax him.
Josh sobbed into your shoulder, his grip occasionally tightening as if you would leave him too. After a few minutes of you quietly whispering small ‘It’s okay’s to him as he cried, his pulled back, moving himself back to the wall to lean on his, still in a ‘L’ shape. You sat next to him, gently placing your head on his shoulder, he then placed his on top on yours.
You could hear his quiet breathing as the two of you sat and looked at the stars, the rain slowing. The two of you could hear the music from the wedding party still going on.
Josh shook his head, “It’s like,” He began, causing you to look up a bit to see his face a bit before moving your gaze back to the stars. You took one of his hands in yours as he spoke and he wrapped his fingers in between yours, interlocking them. He continued, “if I had a little more time with her, my grasp on her wouldn’t have been so loose.” He spoke, looking at the twinkling of the stars, “If I had maybe a month or something more, maybe she wouldn’t have slipped straight through my fingers…” He said, voice getting a little quieter. You moved your head from on his shoulder to look at him properly and he continued to look at the sky with weary eyes. “Maybe if I held on a little tighter,” He whispered, “Diggie wouldn’t have been able to grab her so easily.” He finished and you frowned at this, hand still in his.
You decidedly moved your head into his gaze, his eyes flickered right to you when you entered his eyeline by force. “Josh, you’re a really good guy.” You told him, looking deeply into his green eyes. “I know that you really loved Maddie, but things will be okay.” You continued on, the boy in front of you looking down, “I don’t think they will.” He muttered to you, shaking his head, moving his hand out of your grasp. “I understand that it doesn’t feel okay now.” You said, trying to find the right words, hands moving a bit. “I understand if a small part of you never feels okay, but in the end you are Josh Willcox.” You spoke passionately, putting your hands out as a fish and open palm to smack them against each other, adjusting yourself on the concrete. “You are an actor, you are an athlete.” You spoke highly of him to which he looked up at you with unimpressed, sad eyes. You smiled weakly before ruffling his hair a bit, “And you are such a great friend to so many people, and all those people know you’ll be okay.” You continued on, messing his hair up a bit more. “They would do anything to make sure you’re okay.” You finished, looking at him with a shine in your eyes, you were serious.
You stood up, brushing yourself off to look presentable, holding your hand out. Josh gently smiled at your speech but he looked at your hand with pure confusion. “Just take my hand.” You told him playfully impatiently so he laughed a bit and did as you said. “Where are we going?” He asked you when the two of you began walking, and you opened the door to the building. “I am going to show you exactly how much people care about you.” You said simply, not elaborating as you guys walked back into the wedding.
The two of you stepped into the building where the once sweet moment of only the couple dancing had now turned into a party of everyone dancing. Lights were flashing, confetti was thrown, people were mingling with bright smiles on their faces. The cake was being eaten, the dj was having a blast, almost everyone was on the dance floor.
Josh has mumbled something about, “This is not going to make me feel better.” You knew he said that because he would be seeing Maddie and Diggie dancing. You decided to ignore his mutters and mumbling just for the moment.
You guys had reached the Rooney table where Parker immediately offered two of the six pieces of cake he had stolen from the three tier cake. The younger boy tilted his head a bit, “All of these were originally for me, but I guess I could spare two for you guys.” He said, winking at you guys as if you guys had a shared agreement. You shook your head but took the cake anyways, Josh taking a bite as well.
Joey had walked over and tapped Josh on the shoulder, Josh was aware that Joey had a favoring to Diggie than to him but the younger looked at him with the same playful and happy eyes as always. “Hey Josh,” The boy with glasses spoke, waving his arms like he was pitching an idea, “they’re playing toss the onion rings and I need you to throw onion rings into my mouth.” He nodded along with his own words, pushing his thick glasses up. Josh was confused, he smiled but his brows were furrowed, “You don’t want Diggie to partner with you?” Josh asked, finishing his bite of cake. Joey's eyes widened for a moment, looking over his shoulder, seeing Diggie getting some punch. “Hm.” He hummed, looking back to Josh, shrugging. “I’ll partner with him in something else.” Joey told him and Josh was genuinely surprised. The blonde put his piece of cake down and clapped his hands, “Okay, let’s go win this thing.” He announced, hands clasped on Joey's shoulder as the black haired boy led him to where they were doing it.
You placed your cake down, standing next to the Rooney table with a grin as you watched Josh walk away. Someone bumped hips with you, startling you a bit as you looked over and noticed Liv Rooney who was smiling at you with a scrunch of her nose. She handed you a cup of punch, simply drinking her own cup. She didn’t comment on you bringing Josh in to the Rooney table, or that Josh was somehow in a better mood, laughing as he threw onion rings into Joey's mouth. She didn’t even comment on the fact that when Maddie and Diggie cheered them on, Josh didn’t even falter, he even smiled a little wider. It was only small, and she was sure it might still hurt for him, but the corners of his mouth still turned up higher.
You drank your punch, watching the same scene in front of you guys. Liv suddenly spoke, “I’m so happy that everyone is happy.” She told you, the words familiar from a while beforehand. You smiled and nodded, “Me too.” You told her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, her wrapping one around your waist as you both watched your friends with smiles.
