Season 4 hope/prediction: Deb's show is solid, zero issues, runs flawlessly with great ratings, but her personal life is completely eroding. We start with her discovering Marcus is leaving, and it culminates in DJ going into labor right before a taping. Deb chooses the show. When it's over, and she finally flies to Vegas, it's too late -- Aiden's not letting her in because he loves his wife too much to let DJ get into a shouting match with her mom right after giving birth, and instead takes the brunt of Deb's wrath, with her making excuses and talking about how they used her money for IVF, and anyway, DJ's fine, so who cares if she wasn't there? Kathy's in the room with DJ and the baby (DJ's the closest she has to a daughter, after all) and Deb leaves too furious to think about how badly she's hurt her family.
She heads back to her Vegas mansion -- empty, obviously, Josefina and the dogs would be in LA -- and pops open a bottle of wine. Alone. Completely alone. Can't call Marty, she has no friends, the closest she's got would be Kiki and wouldn't that be embarrassing, calling your poker dealer to talk about your feelings --
and then Ava's there. She got the news about DJ's labor, she got the story from Aiden (who was distraught, by the way, man's too much of a sweetheart for Vance drama), a spare key from Damian (happy to pawn that off on her, though if it isn't returned promptly he's taking legal action) and has arrived just in time to see the Deborah Vance having a breakdown the likes of which no one thought physically possible. Crying gives you wrinkles, you know. But Ava has to be here. She's the physical embodiment of a lesson Deb never truly learned: you don't have to like someone to love them.
In my imaginary fantasy land that I am concocting this would then subsequently lead into them fucking nasty but I understand that this may be a step too far for the surprisingly large number of very normal people who watch this show and would forgive JPL for not taking it that far. However I do believe they should fuck about it and let Ava take the reigns in their relationship while they see how many of Deb's bridges they can un-burn.

Deborah is always giving things to people, and people think because she is very rich and very capable, she doesn't need anyone to give things to her. But Ava gives her something. [you take over from here]
its been two and half years that i've been ruminating on this prompt and never have been able to figure out what this gift could be. this morning i finally found my answer. thank you for sending this prompt which i'm sure at this point you've long forgotten about <3 love u
The package arrives by courier the same evening that Deborah learns ‘My Bad’ is going to network television.  After an obscene bidding war, the purchase price from NBC Universal’s deal will be more revenue for Deborah than all 2,500 Palmetto residency shows combined.  It also happens that NBC has the Super Bowl next February, and network executives pitched the big game to Deborah’s team as the perfect lead-in to maximize viewership.
That’s how big Deborah Vance is in popular culture these days.  Big enough to follow up the most-watched television program of the year.
It’s kind of stunning, Deborah thinks, as Marcus offers her the iPad with the contract pulled up, ready for her signature.  Maybe in her wildest dreams she imagined this level of fame and brand recognition, but it was never all that realistic.  Especially not at her age.  It was impressive enough to sustain her Vegas residency as long as she did in a culture where even the most prolific actors are put out to pasture after age forty.  But here she is, about to sign the biggest deal of her career, north of seventy years old.
Josefina interrupts them before she has the chance to sign, knocking softly on the doorframe to Deborah’s office, holding a small package wrapped in a recycled paper grocery bag.  “Sorry to interrupt, Deborah, but this was just delivered.”
Deborah waves her off.  “Leave it in the kitchen, I’ll get to it later.”
Josefina turns to follow Deborah’s instructions, but something changes her mind.  She hovers instead in the entry to the office, a strange look on her face.
“What is it?” Deborah asks, studying Josefina’s frown, mind going back to Ava hovering in a similar doorway holding the envelope from Kathy back after Frank died.  She shakes the memory away and stands, holding out her hand and beckoning Josefina forward and to get on with it.  She thought this was finally over, that after nearly hitting her with the Rolls Kathy would have gotten the goddamn message.
Josefina enters but stops short of handing it over.  She looks Deborah clear in the eye and says, “It’s from Ava.”
Ah.
Deborah isn’t sure if anyone on her staff is still in contact with her ex-writing partner, but it’s been six months since Deborah fired her on that Hollywood rooftop.
First came the denial:  Ava teary eyed on a night that she should have been celebrating, not believing Deborah’s words.  I can do three months severance and extend your health insurance for six.  Then came the anger, weeks of indignant and resentful texts and voice messages, Ava at her worst poking at every tender part of Deborah she knew, which is just about all of them.  Deborah never once wrote back.  Then bargaining for her job back, even when Deborah knew she was doing just fine writing for television back in LA, that she was even becoming pretty successful.  Then came the weeks where Deborah heard nothing at all, Ava’s messages stopping completely, no updates on any of her social media that Deborah most definitely didn’t keep checking, just to make sure.  Ava’s name in the credits became the only way Deborah knew she was still out there, still okay, still working.
Deborah clears her throat, swallowing down the acute tightening, ignoring the quickening of her heart rate.
“I’ll take it,” she says, curtly, “give me a minute.”
“I already opened the champagne Jimmy sent,” Josefina explains, handing Deborah the box across the desk.  This was a night for celebration, but Deborah suddenly feels like anything but.
“I said, give me a minute,” she snaps, more forceful this time.  Her tone clearly hits the mark because Josefina and Marcus share a knowing look before seeing themselves out.  The contract, Jimmy, the champagne, it can all wait.
She sits back in the opulent wing-backed chair and lets out a long exhale, holding the small wrapped package and measuring its weight.  There’s not much to it really, just wrinkled paper, crooked lines of clear packing tape, and Ava’s chicken scratch with her name and address.
She unwraps it carefully, like she’s afraid of what might be inside.  There’s a plain white envelope with Deborah’s name written small in the center and a box for a pair of noise canceling headphones.  She slips her finger under the seam of the envelope, tearing it open.  A piece of note paper is tri-folded inside, Ava Daniels in neat block printing stamped along the top of the personalized stationery.  Deborah chuckles, thinking Ava has come so far from writing solely on post-its.  The note is simple, Ava’s messy handwriting in black ink in the center of the page:
For your collection. - Ava
Deborah opens the box but there are no headphones inside, only a bunch of balled up paper surrounding an oblong taped up ball of bubble wrap.  Contained within are two ceramic figures, an unlikely pair:  it’s quintessential Deborah in her favorite updo wig, a pants suit dusted in golden glitter, complete with golden high heels and microphone in hand.  The other is a slightly shorter and paler figure with short auburn hair, striped t-shirt, high waisted jeans, and thick black Doc Marten boots.  The tiny Ava is holding a small black notebook.  They’re both laughing, and if placed side by side, the salt and pepper shakers turn slightly into one another, like they’re leaning in and sharing a raucous joke.
Deborah tears up, staring down at them centered on the desktop, Ava the pepper to her salt.  The other half of her pair.  She misses her desperately then, and if she’s serious with herself, has been for the past half of a year, never letting herself truly sit in those feelings until now.
She picks up her phone, squints at the screen through tears, and pulls up Ava’s contact.  Before she knows what she’s doing, Deborah hits the call button.
The phone rings twice, then is sent to voicemail.
The recorded message says, “It’s Ava, drop it like it’s hot.”
Deborah clears her throat.  She has no idea what she even wants to say.  I miss you.  I’m living my dream, I’m famous as hell, about to be more rich than ever, but I’m not happy.  Not without you.  Please come back.  None of it is worth it without you.
But that would be selfish.  Ava is doing fine, thriving even, without Deborah.  She needs to let her be.  Instead, she says, “Hey, it’s um, it’s me.  I got your package.”  She sniffles, swallowing tears.  “They’re perfect.  Thank you.”
She hangs up.
After her hands stop shaking and she’s gathered herself, Deborah carries the shakers to the wall of china cabinets where her collection is fully lit and on display.  She makes room right in the center one at eye-level and sets them together, close enough to touch, their heads leaning into one another.
A few moments later Deborah signs the contract and the house celebrates, Jimmy toasting Deborah and her accomplishments over the phone to a bottle of Dom Perignon, a vintage for 1976, the very year Deborah filmed the late night pilot and ended up starting her stand up career.
If anyone notices the new addition to the salt and pepper shaker collection, no one mentions it.

tagged by my bestie @mebiselfandi!!! thank you for thinking a me bro <3
rules: share the first lines of your ten most recent fanfics and tag ten people. if you have written less than ten, don't be shy and share anyways.
i do not have ten. but anyways:
pokemon ashen frost - Homecoming
“C’mon, I know they’re around here somewhere-”
“If you lost them-”
“I didn’t lose them!”
“We travel around the entire world without losing a single hotel keycard, but right here, on our front porch, is where my wife finally-”
“Got ‘em.” Josefina said, sticking her tongue out at her husband’s nagging, and dangling her keys in front of his face for good measure. She got a solid, healthy eye roll out of Miguel.
2. mullendowski - champagne problems
A little box weighed heavy in Robert’s jacket pocket.
He stood alone outside, hyping himself up before going to join the rest of his teammates in the venue they rented out for the holiday party. It was a refined building in an even more refined neighborhood, only the very best for the biggest club in Germany.
Robert fished the box out of his pocket and cracked it open. He didn’t know why he felt the need to check on it, as if it could have magically disappeared on the way over. Maybe it was for the reminder that the day he had waited so long for was finally here.
3. alisson/virgil - the cure for sadness (warmth)
Kirkby’s atmosphere the days leading up to the Southampton game was bittersweet, to say the least.
That’s how all teams are before the last game of the season, but for Liverpool it was especially so. The team was tight-knit, much more so than their Premier League adversaries, so losing not one, but four teammates, hit hard. Everyone went about their day with the knowledge that their family was about to get four men smaller, and they were treasuring the time they had with them.
Despite emotions running high, Virgil, calm as ever, managed to stay level headed during the last days of the season. Sure, during the team’s family dinner every night, he would think about how much he would miss his friends who were leaving, but training took his mind off it.
4. unnamed (platonic) trent n robbo project i jus started working on
After a long and strenuous season, the boys deserved a break. They had earned a vacation in which they could let loose and not worry about staying in good form or waking up for training the next day.
Which is how Liverpool Football Club ended up in Vegas for a long weekend.
After the second night of drinking and gambling, Cody, Darwin, and Jordan found themselves trudging back to their hotel from the casino that the rest of their teammates had left hours prior. They had all been drinking in moderation, so the trudging was more due to the fact that it was well past two in the morning. Still, the city was as alive as it had been twelve hours previously. The scents of rain and alcohol lingered in the air and the sidewalk still had a shine to it.

Interview: Jose Alves Cruz
Dossier:
Name: Jose Alves Cruz
Age: 50
Species: Human - Thrall
Circle: Mortalis
Known Relationships: Marcia Alves Cruz (Deceased Wife), Josefina Anita Alves Cruz (Daughter), Hollis Fiala (Thraller), Damian Harker (Business Partner of Sorts)
Interview:
What's your name?
“My name?” The mayor smiles easily, setting down his files so he can focus forward on the hunter before him. Hunters and thralls were truly two opposites of the spectrum a simple human could exist as in the Midnight Underground - the Aware falling flatly in the middle. Love the Supernatural so much you tie yourself to them, or hate them enough to spend your life dedicated to their deaths. Of course it was never quite so simple as that. There had been Cameron, the one who had fallen in love with the wolf. Poor man, truly. “Jose Antonio Alves Cruz is my name.”
How do you know Tabitha Spencer?
He takes a few seconds to really ponder the question - how can he answer this as honestly as possible. “I don’t know her well at all. Until I saw her reach for the gun and shoot Mx. Fiala, I didn’t even care to know her name. There are a lot of wolves in the Underground. I hope you can understand how I, a humble thrall, wouldn’t be so privy to all their names. As Mayor I’m more well versed in the Aware and those that aren’t. And Tabitha isn’t the type of wolf you ask to thrall you. She’s too young and too reckless. As you can tell from tonight.”
How do you know Jose Alves Cruz?
The question is redundant. The man before Kellan knows himself probably better than most people do and he looks forward at them with a politicians easy kind of smile.
How do you know Hollis Fiala?
“I’m sure you’ve heard through the grapevine by now just how I now Hollis Fiala,” Jose jokes and gestures to his arm, still in the sling from the bruising pain that’s been there ever since the shot rang out. The woes of being the thrall were simply that. When your thraller hurt, so did you. But when they flew high, well, that was intoxicating, an addiction that was easy to fall for. Temptation had always been the rotten curse in his family line. He thinks for a moment about Josefina who he had trapped in the same curse. It was better this way. “I’m their thrall.”
Did you see the shot happened/What happened that night from your perspective?
“It was all very fast, I hope you can understand.” Jose begins slowly, deliberately, like every word that follows takes him a considerable amount of effort and thought. “I heard something that sounded like a gunshot and then there was an actual gunshot. I felt this pain blossoming in my shoulder and I knew Hollis had been hit. Thralls are tied to their thrallers and as such we feel everything they feel. Though the opposite direction is less intense. What a silly thing for Fae to feel something a human does, for example. Nothing I have experienced has hurt quite so badly. Next thing I knew there was a scuffle and my guards had grabbed Miss Spencer and the gun was on the floor. None of the people paid to protect me would shoot someone who would hurt me indirectly so there was something else to assume. Both Hollis and myself had been shot by Tabitha Spencer. I feel sorry for Damian. He’s a good man.” Though when he says that, well, the smile does not quite reach his eyes.
When did you get the invitation for the party/know you were going to work it?
“I suspected I would get an invitation as I do every year since I’ve been mayor of Las Vegas. To have someone Aware, let alone a thrall, in the back pocket of the Underground is useful so I think they try to keep me on their side by showing me just how human you can all be.” Jose smiles, shaking his head. “It isn’t necessary though. I’m already here. Karlha and Thaddeus are quite the happy couple, aren’t they? Marcia and I would have been celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary this year.”
Did you go with someone?
“I did not. I would have gone with my wife, but, as you know she passed away recently, in November. I’m still in grieving and I haven’t put much thought into it. We were married a long time, over two decades. You can understand that, I’m sure. And I would have brought Josefina, but she had other plans for the evening. Busy thing, my little girl. So very, very much like her mother.” Unfortunate as it was. But he left that part off.
Do you own a gun/have you ever owned a gun?
Jose laughs, mostly because he thinks the line of questioning is a bit silly. He points to the gun safe sitting only a few feet away from him in his office. “As you can see, I do. Many of them. I’m a thrall working as the mayor of a dangerous town with an even more dangerous underbelly that would love nothing more than to take advantage of me and mine. Beyond that, I go hunting quiet often. Duck, deer, anything, really. So yes, I have guns. You’re more than welcome to look through them if you like. All of them are registered in the Unaware databases and I would be happy to have that proof printed off for you to look over at your own discretion. Now, if you don’t need anything else, I have to go back to some documents. I may be part of your world, but I’m also part of the other one and I’ve promised you both plenty.”

WellieWishers 14.5” Dolls:
1. Elle Kobayashi (Emerson)
2. Winnie Robinson (Willa)
3. Michelle Douglas (custom Kendall)
Each of my 18” dolls are 12-13 years old, and my WellieWishers (their younger sisters) are 6-7. Truly Mes and custom dolls have their backstories included in their post, while historical and GOTY dolls stick mostly to their AG story.
Each doll is a modern-day girl, but she also has a specific aspect in her designated era. For example, Julie can be in her aspect as a girl in 1970s San Francisco or as a girl today (think that one post describing Greek mythology with Barbie). A girl’s primary year is the era she spends the most time in, while her incidental year is the year that she occasionally ventures into.

Blast from the past—Some Philippine delegates attended my presentation at the Symposium on English Literature by Asian authors entitled Asian Voices in English held at The Run Run Shaw Building, University of Hong Kong, 27-30 April 1990. With (L) Carmina Añonuevo Yaptengco (+), Tess Dizon-de Vega (the current Philippine Ambassador to Korea and former Ambassador to Germany), Plenary Speaker Bienvenido Santos (+), Yolanda Tomeldan (+), Susie L. Tan, Josefina Mariano (+), and Milagros Carreon Laurel. Professors Yaptengco, Tomeldan, and Mariano were my teachers in comparative literature at UP. Susie and I were panelists at a PEN Conference previously. Mila and Tess were my contemporaries at the UP English Department. I was 22, and it was my first time to deliver a paper at an international conference. I attempted to discuss political poetry in the Philippines during the 1980s. The symposium focused on two kinds of writing experiences. One was the experience of postcolonial writers re-appropriating the English language for their cultural purposes. The other is the experience of immigrant writers, who bring an Asian view to bear on the culture of the English-speaking countries in which they live.

The car ride with Nora had felt a lot like pulling her own teeth out, honestly. Sure the woman had tried and partially succeeded and ripping out a small piece of her soul and absorbing it, but it really hadn’t been the intended effect of the spell, so Josefina was more apt to forgive. She also didn’t really have enough energy to hold a grudge right now. If she ever started to feel better and was mad, they could cross that bridge then. Right now, every part of her body ached from her own pain and Lilith’s and that second one was getting worse by the day.
Which was why the magic. Jo didn’t have any, only Esme and Nora (and, she guessed, probably Cam in a weird way) had any but her and Clementine could at least be helpful. That was who she was here for anyhow. Clem. But even after a tearful reunion in the driveway they were all but dancing around each other, unsung songs hanging in the air like lead balloons.
Jo didn’t exactly like the taste of cigarettes, but she’d rifled through the drawers in the house and found something that would help calm her frazzled nerves, and gone outside in hopes of calming herself down. She rubbed her eyes and watched the smoke curl in the Vegas desert air. It was colder out here but with every passing day it was getting colder in that way Nevada did when it prepared for winter. Once December hit in earnest they’d all be bundled up tightly. Especially her. She’d never been built for winter.
Now she was not a hunter or an oracle or a wizard or a wolf or anything like that, but she had also been raised in the underground. She could tell when a fairy was watching her.
“I know I look like shit right now, but I promise I don’t bite, Esme. If you want to come talk feel free. Or keep tapping the glass like I’m a fish in an aquarium. Who cares, honestly? Not me.”
