Jopper x GN! Reader
Content warning: Large age gap (early twenties reader),mentions of food , eating, and substance usage. Reader has parental trauma.
Sleeping was always a hassle. Hopper managed to get enough money to get a large enough second bed to hold the three of you comfortably
Joyce was a major insomniac. Trying to get her to sleep at night was awful. She'd wake up in a cold sweat and be terrified. She didn't like disturbing anyone. So she'd usually stay in the bathroom or living room reading or playing crossword puzzles to keep herself occupied and not disturb anyone
Hopper always had a beer before sleeping. You could hear him snore as you slept on his chest drifting asleep slowly as you listened to the sound of your heart beat
Hopper always needed a large breakfast before work. You didn't know how to cook very well so you'd ask Joyce for help and she'd reassure you when you were feeling needy or insecure about not knowing what to do. She only had coffee for breakfast but you constantly told her she needed to eat more.
"I'm fine. I just need the coffee for work" She'd constantly but you'd get worried
Putting your clothes to dry in a separate room so they don't smell like cigarette smoke. It was an insecurity of yours
Hating being yelled at. Absolutely terrified you. Hopper was slightly more insensitive about it. But he got more aware as time went on.
Joyce was more mindful of your fear of having someone older yell at you. She'd hand you a stuffed animal and then let you rock yourself back and forth without thinking it was weird
They drank quite a bit. You spent a considerable amount of money on alcohol. You all tried to be mindful of how much you drank. But it was a serious problem for Joyce and Hopper
Reading with Joyce. It was the best feeling in the world. She was so sweet and she'd stroke your hair as she held you in her arms
Watching TV with Hopper was nice he'd tell the weirdest jokes and complain about everything humanly possible.
Fixing cars with Hopper and doing home repairs. He taught you everything he knows about home repairs and Joyce always made you bring a first aid kit in case you got injured
They both absolutely need to greet you before and after work and get frustrated when you don't.
Learning how to make special protein waffles for El so she can get as many nutrients as she can from her diet of Eggos and milk.
Will absolutely adore you. Mostly because you're not intimidating and demanding. You don't act like you have complete authority over him.
Jonathan takes forever to warms up to you but after a while. Seeing how absolutely smitten with you he warms up to and he being around his age really makes him like you more you understand hes a teenager and he needs spce you don't pressure anything out of him.
Finding out El has superpowers freaks the fuck out of you. But also scares you because what it means for her the constant worry she might be taken advantage of. You keep a shotgun on you at all times that Hopper taught you how to use
Hopper taking you to the shooting range is one hell of an experience. He has you keep a handgun on you at all times
Joyce and you team up with El and Will to convince which basically means beg Hopper to let the family get a cat. You both succeed
Turning down Joyce's puppy dog eyes is basically impossible.

The image in my head of the family dinners at the Hopper Byers once Hopper finds out that Steve is his biological son. It's funny if Nancy broke with Jonathan, Hopper's adopted son, only to get back with Steve, his biological one. The awkwardness of Hopper inviting Steve and his new girlfriend over, not knowing it's Nancy. The awkward silence is what's funny, and Joyce is just trying her hardest to start the conversation between them all. Meanwhile, El and Argyle are happily talking, not realizing there's any tension at all because they're too invested in their own conversation, but also, Joyce still doesn't know that Jonathan is actually high but Hopper does though.

What was Joyce's conversation with Owens like? Like Sam "Mom? Pop?" "You two been together long?" Owens

"Step-daughter"
"Okay...you weren't married though."
"Well, I mean...you can do that, though, right? Like pull whatever legal strings, just write it down?"

Re-reading Gideon the Ninth and can't help but make it Stranger Things (based on vibes)
Spoilers for The Locked Tomb
Second House: Necro Joyce and Cav Hopper
Space cops. Close with the Third, Fourth, and Fifth houses.
Third House: Necro El and Cavs Max & Lucas
Personalities do not match their book counterparts AT ALL. But I like Elumax together, and everyone would think Max would be a necro too for how strong El is.
Fourth House: Necro Will and Cav Mike
Near inseparable. Fraternal relationship with the Fifth.
Fifth House: Necro Nancy and Cav Jonathan
Very parental-sibling like responsibility for the Fourth. Their strengths are historical research and asking the right questions.
Sixth House: Necro Dustin and Cav Robin
All brains, sass, and loyalty. Brutally efficient, and are the first to get the Ninth to open up. Alliances with the Ninth.
Seventh House: Necro Tommy and Cav Carol
I mean... this is practically my favorite stommy with jealous steddie trope I HAD to put it in here.
Eighth House: Necro Jason and Cav Billy
Self explanatory. Deep hatred of the Ninth. Religious zealots and bigots.
Ninth House: Necro Eddie and Cav Steve
Our main characters! Everyone thinks they're a cult. Difficult to get along with at first, but fiercely loyal and underestimated by the upper houses. Golden eyes and black eyes. Eddie knows puzzles and Steve knows people. Iconic weapons. Self-sacrificing. Extremely bitchy. One cannot die and the other becomes a monster who forgets who they are.
We do bones, motherfucker!
#stranger things x the locked tomb#brain soup is cooked#it is so late and i am so tired#i wanted to give each house a color but felt like i was revealing a bit too much of the spectrum#get it... like a color spectrum. but it's autism#yeah of course you get it#steddie#stranger things#buckingham#byler#elumax#jancy#jopper#steddie headcanon#the locked tomb#gideon the ninth

Okay so — time for Stranger Things' Headcanon: dad Jim Hopper edition.
James "Jim" Hopper was born around 1941/42, follow me on this. He went to school with Joyce, same year, right? And we know they are around 40 in Season 1 — it's 1981/82.
Let's say he left for Vietnam right out of high school, he's barely 18, just a boy. But he spends five of the worst years of his life fighting in a foreign country, breathing shit and stuff. He's 22 when he comes back — 1964.
Joyce gets married the same year, to Lonnie. They are definitely not going to be happy, and Jim knows that. They have been friends, good friends years before. So, he's not really surprised to find about his old friend unhappy marriage. They spend and awful lot of time talking about that, but there's nothing she can do, come on — she's a young woman, just married and even though she fights her husband every day she still believes there's something that may be saved. That's when she gets pregnant with Jonathan — 1966.
Jim is 24, he just started into Hawkins Police and damn, the uniform dresses him good. Chicks look at him, and he likes that, he can't deny. At the same time, things for Joyce keep getting harder.
Things go slowly and difficult, and even boring sometimes. Nothing really ever happens in Hawkins. And people talk — better saving the appreance, right?
It's 1967 when, one summer night, Joyce is exhausted. Lonnie hasn't come back yet, and she knows she won't see him before Monday night, that's just how her weekends usually go. She's lonely, and tired, Jonathan is finally sleeping and she need a break. Jim calls to check on her, just to say hi or something. She invites him over. "God, I need a beer and a cig, Jim. You don't know how tired I am."
He comes later, six cold beers and a pack of cigarettes. (Maybe even some weed, for old time sake.)
They drink, and smoke. And laugh. And smoke, and drink. They don't know exactly how it happens, but it happens. They wake up still half naked on the couch next morning and they swear it was just one night, and they'll forget about it. He leaves, and life goes on.
Lonnie comes back home, Jim meets his wife some time later. And when he gets married, they live on the other side of Hawkins for some time, before New York. It's not a big city, and somehow the two of them just slowly becomes... strangers. Up to the point she doesn't even know...
And surely he cannot imagine Joyce's pregnant.
She keeps telling herself the baby's Lonnie's. It cannot be another way around. In 1968, she has a girl.
Jim is 38 when he comes back to Hawkins — it's 1980. He hates to watch the happy family; he knows Joyce isn't happy at all, but that girl. Sarah would have been 9 and Joyce's girl is just a little older, a 12 years old spitfire. Funny little thing, she is. And she hates her father to the guts. Everytime she can, she leaves the house, running into the woods. Her older brother tries to keep her but it's just — she's wild. A little rebel.
When Jim finds her the first time, running all alone in the street, crying an ocean, he immediately recognizes her. Jim takes her to the Benny's Burger, gets her a hot dog and fries, and a coke. She keeps talking, and talking, and talking — about her family, school and all the things no one in her family seem to care about ("Lonnie's fighting with Johnny, and mom's fighting with Lonnie and no one ever see me. This is good, can you buy me more sometime?")
He feel in love that night. He didn't get to be a father to Sarah... but she desperately needs one. So he talks to Joyce and keeps telling her it's alright. "Listen, that's a mess, I can see that. But I'm glad to help. If your daughter needs a safe place... just, you know where to find me."
And she does find him. The girl spends half of her nights at Jim's, mostly when her father comes home drunk enough to take it out on her, too. Jonathan is tough — he really doesn't want to deal with an old Chief, nor to be saved from his own father. But she's just a child.
Jim buys a VHS player. And a second toothbrush. She is small enough to take the couch. He can't cook to save his life, but finds out he's willing to learn — she can't eat pizza every fucking night, for god's sake. He helps her with math homework. Teachers are used to him coming to pick her up at school.
She calls him dad at school, speaking to her classmates. They know her as the Chief's daughter. Joyce doesn't mind explaing, she's done with keeping the appearance. "Jim is my dearest friend" she says, buying grocieres at the store, her youngest running around the shop, showing her the last pack of coloring pencils he wants for his next birthday. "He's always been there for my girl, and she just loves him like a daughter would."
He calls her peach. She's fine with it. And she should be at that age where kids get embarrassed by their own parents, but she jump out of his Hawkins Police pick-up with such pride before entering school — he couldn't be happier about that.
He lectures her about that danger of drugs, and alcohol and boys at the beginning of her first high school year. Now she's embarrassed. "I'd rather talk with mom about that, if you don't mind..." he nods, silently. "But thanks anyway, I love you too, dad."
It's the first time she said that. Jim doesn't get any sleep that night. He hadn't realize just how much he cared about her — it wasn't a matter of blood anymore, she was his daughter. Not Sarah, not a sort of surrogate for his own loss — his kid. She was her own person and he loved her.
He teaches her to drive. But she definetly improves with Jonathan, he can't be really patient about it.
She loves her brothers, really — they are just different. Like, there is something, somewhere... she can't wrap her head around it, but it's there. They are family just not the same family, perhaps. There is Joyce in her eyes, and in her smiles, but nothing of Lonnie. Even though she can see his nose on Jonathan's face, and his lips on Will's. The way he used to walk, bouncing around just like Johnny does. And the way he used to hums rock music, sometimes — just like Will's habits. She does not. None of this. She's quiet, and loves old movies, and checkered shirts, and coffee. No coffee in the Byers house, but tons of it in Jim's trailer.
And it all comes around when she gets a fever. Appendicites. Joyce and Jonathan rushes her to the hospital, they call him from the public phone. "Peach's getting operated right now — please, can you come?"
He's never left the Police station faster. And the doctors say they need blood — "Type 0 is rare. We don't have any bags available at the moment, but she needs a transfusion to recover as quickly as possible" the doctor explains.
Thank god Jim's there because the next day, when she opens her eyes, she asks about him too. He's slept in the hospital room, Joyce says, in case she woke up. But then, the doctor delivers the complete blood tests. They made sure about blood type compatibility and everything else, even though it was predictable — after all, she is his daughter.
And that's where all the knots come home to roost. Jim turns pale. He and Joyce exchange an eloquent look. He swallows. "My daughter — sure, but you mean that I... that we..."
Everything goes back to that 1967 summer night, to those beers, a joint shared on the sofa. Life couldn't get any stranger, right?

With all of the new info on Stranger Things: The First Shadow and young Jopper being the possible key to ending Henry/Vecna, I just want to reiterate something: this whole story is about love. It's about love, it's always been about love. Familial love. Love between a group of nerds. Love lost and found. Found family. Right person wrong kind of relationship. The absence of love, and what it does to a person. Breaking up, coming back together. Discovering who you are to someone, who someone is to you, in the middle of what feels like a million apocalypses. Growing up. Being different and being accepted. Leaving vengeance behind. I can literally hear Argyle quoting Jimi Hendrix, saying "when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." This group of people, abused, abandoned, bullied, beaten, betrayed, tortured even, and what do they do? Refuse to quit, because their love for each other boils over. Stranger Things is about love!!!!
#getting off my soapbox now#stranger things#stranger things the first shadow#jopper#stranger things headcanons#stranger things 5#i think stranger things 5 has a great opportunity here#to make a statement about how#even in the worst of times#we can be there for each other#i need platonic stobin love jargyle love i need lucas and erica love#i need nancy and her mom love#i need nancy and mike to hug and talk and be siblings!#this is also why i think under pressure by queen and bowie would be the perfect trailer song for the final season

Stranger Things HC (Based around the Christmas holiday but not really a Christmas HC)
Its the late 2010s? Everyone's grown up, they have their own families, their careers, their own lives.
Steve's a support worker at the local all through years school.
Robin currently teaches a humanities subject at the local university.
Nancy worked as a journalist eventually building her own paper from the ground up and just celebrated its 10 Yr anniversary. She and Robin have travelled the world and still plan on new adventures.
Eddie's was discovered in '88 he toured throughout the 90s and early '00s. He still makes music but likes to focus more on Music Producing so he can spend more time at home with Steve and the kids (15f, 10f, 6m). Robin and Nancy are their Godparents
The four get together for an adults only dinner at least once a week, alternating who's hosting - everyone secretly prefers Steve's cooking but no-one ever says it. Robin often pops in to the Harrington-Munson household for a cup of tea and a gossip throughout the week anyway.
Dustin works at NASA (or an equally impressive physics institute), in Florida which they all simultaneously give him shit for and are jealous of bc he can go to Disney and Orlando whenever he wants to.
Lucas and Max have been married for 7 years now. Max still skates, Lucas still plays basketball with his friends on Saturdays. They have a two kids (12f, and 4m).
Erica is also a world renowned scientist in her field. She often gets brought on to teams as a consultant and has worked with Dustin on a couple projects.
Will has his own Gallery in California which Jane (El) sometimes volunteers at. Mike works across the road at a job he loves but not as much as his Husband, Will.
Jane's taking life easy taking in experiences, learning what she can about the world. Max and Jane often meet up for girlie days.
Jonathan tours new exhibitions, releases photobooks, does photography around the world. He travels with his partner (or roommate depending on which country) Argyle. His most recent photobook has been his biggest success. It featured a collection of his earliest work of the Upside Down Gang. Themes of Queer Platonic Family and Queer Joy could be explored through the photos and the accompanying pieces written by Nancy.
Hopper and Joyce retired together and finally married in the 90s. Hopper gets antsy so he still does some volunteer work here and there.
Karen finally left Ted Fucking Wheeler after his reaction to the revelation of the the '86 earthquake actually was, was less than appropriate (he under reacted, which made her realise how much of an ahole he was) she remarried to a lovely chap called, Dan, a few years later. The Wheeler kids warmed up to him eventually. And Holly Wheeler exists somewhere but doesn't really apply here.
Anyway every year they made a promise to go away for Christmas.
Robin usually researches the place to go, Steve co-ordinates the kids, hopper-byers', and Karen and her Husband's Schedule to find the best dates to book it for, and everyone's order of arrival. Nancy organises the travel for the four and Steddie's kids whilst everyone else organises their own. (Will books Jim and Joyce's flights for them. Joyce is okay with a computer, much better than Jim, but if it goes wrong she can't fix it) Eddie wrangles their kids, packs and gets their family ready to go as Steve is often to focused on the craziness of school the run up to winter break.
Steve, Eddie, their kids, Robin and Nancy are the first to arrive, two days after their schools finishes. Eddie and Nancy are usually sent into the village to get a Christmas tree whilst Steve and Robin unpack the food, the drinks, snacks, the decorations. The kids, after exploring and claiming beds, get involved in the decorating part, often making paper rings, snowflakes. The eldest acts like she hates it but secretly loves making them better than last year.
When Eddie and Nancy get back, most of the decorations are up except for the Tree. They do that together, Christmas music blasting in the background.
The Jim, Joyce, Will, Mike, Karen, Dan, arrive mid morning the next day having met up after the airport and drove up together.
Lucas, Max, their two kids and Jane, Jonathan and Argyle arrive at the same time mid afternoon.
Dustin's the last one to arrive late evening that day.
The whole time is full of fun, buzzing energy, exchanging stories from the year and generally enjoy being in each others presences after being away for so long. A family walk outside on Christmas Eve. One day, They play in the snow and end up in a massive snowball fight. Inevitably there's at least one evening, when the kids have gone to bed, and a couple bottles of alcohol have been consumed so the everyone's a little tipsy and honest, the topic of that place comes up. Most of them have dealt with the trauma it caused, gone to therapy (either paying for it themselves or via Eddie, Jonathon, or Nancy covering the cost). Night terrors were few and far between, paranoia about flickering lights or animal screeching noises have turned into a dulled response. The initial flinch will always be there but panic and worry that used to follow doesn't anymore. This particular year, it hits the party that Lucas and Max's eldest is the same age as the younger party members were when Will went missing, and Jane turned up on Mike's door step. And Steve and Eddie's eldest is a year younger than the elder party members were, and their middle daughter the same age as Erica when she was brought into the fold. Lucas, Max, Steve and Eddie make a mental note to keep a closer eye and hug them a little tighter this year.
----
Jonathan's photography book is based on one of my favourite head canons by @schrijveer
I
This headcanon was inspired by a house i saw in an interior design book and thought it looked like a perfect place for the Party's Christmas get together…
I'm also 60% sure my brain was also consulting the Music video for Last Christmas for ideas of activities...

I am a Hopper is a massive sub in the bedroom truther. Like outside hes all tough and likes to take control. But this man loves bossy women. Like absolutely adores bossy women. Like he is obsessed with femdoms. Like behind closed doors he just loves being submissive and being bossed around. I feel like this is canon. I may be wrong but I have a feeling

Stonathan at the Jopper wedding, Stonathan proposal and Stonathan wedding I talked about doing is just headcanons just to remind you. I don't want to disappoint if you expect a story and its just headcanons. Don't hate me.
🫣
PS: Also working on the family camping trip that includes Stonathan/Stoncy/Jancy which is one major factor in what is taking the wedding ones so long to post. Plus there is a lot going into the weddings ones and Lonnie shows up to start shit so of course its taking longer.
