Since Tumblr terminated my previous account, where I stored every gif pack I ever made, I decided to upload them in a separate one just in case this one gets nuked too. This is the link to the directory, but I will also post a list in alphabetical order under the cut so you know which ones I've made so far. Some of them are in a payhip page, the rest are in their respective Tumblr page.; most of them are for free, a couple of them are paid.
If you like, use or plan to use any of them, please spread the word! I won't be making an individual post for them again, so a reblog to this post helps too. Thanks!

15 Days BL Challenge the Quadriquel
47. Favorite confession scene
Light On Me. Probably the most iconic confession scene I've ever seen. I just love how Shinwoo just stands there and waits for all his many messages to come in to Taekyung who FINALLY got his phone screen fixed after idk at least a month. And Taekyung turns to Shinwoo and asks, "Were you thinking about me?" and Shinwoo coolly replies, "Yes. Yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow." UGH I LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
Tumblr media
Old Fashion Cupcake. Specifically that KISS?? Togawa just couldn't hold back any more. The tension finally just boiled to the surface for him. He didn't even need to say anything to Nozue. That kiss was spontaneous, passionate, and had a dash of desperation. It was Togawa's confession. Also I really thought Nozue was going to shove Togawa away especially when he shoved his finger in his mouth but when Nozue kissed Togawa back??? That was all the confirmation I needed to see.
Tumblr media
To My Star. You already KNOW! "If it's hard for you then I will come to you." ICONIC! No one knows Han Ji Woo better than Kang Seo Joon and he knew that Ji Woo struggled with his feelings and admitting his truths. He made it easy for him because he knew that they felt the same about each other.
Tumblr media
Takara-kun to Amagi-kun. Right away in ep 1 we get Amagi dreamily confessing to Takara. He just does it out of the blue and it takes us and Takara by surprise. And right as Amagi is about to hastily take his confession back Takara stuns everyone by agreeing to date Amagi.

Something I love is when idols get to have cameos of their careers, talents, or other characters in their work. One of my favorite examples is how ā€˜Heartbeatā€™ by 2PM, is referenced in dramas which star members of the group. Itā€™s such an iconic song and is such a popular 2nd gen one that everyone knows (or definitely should).
Ok Taecyeon of 2PM as Jang Han-seok/Jang Joon-woo in the drama, ā€˜Vincenzoā€™ (2021)
Also in ā€˜Vincenzoā€™ we see two other members of 2PM, Nickhyun and Chansung cameo, as well, as two characters in a drama that Joon-woo watches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the drama ā€˜Whatā€™s Wrong with Secretary Kim?ā€™ (2018), Hwang Chan-sung of 2PM played the character Go Gwi-nam, who gave a hilarious homage to his group and their hit song ā€˜Heartbeatā€™ by singing in front of his coworkers in an embarrassing but ever so entertaining scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thatā€™s about it! If you know of any more references let me know!

Blorbos From BL That Will Make Me Protect Them At EVERY FUCKING COST
tagged by @elizabethsebestianhedgehog thank you! <3
when I'm tagged in "make a list/what/who's your fav X, I blank out and have never enjoyed anything ever" etc etc with that out of the way! off the top of my head:
Let me divide it into 2 categories actually: characters and actors
Characters:
To My Star 1&1: Han Ji Woo and Kang Seo Joon
Yes s2 took us by surprise with the tone change, but it worked as and so well. They make me eat drywall and climb ceilings etc etc. TMS 1&2 is my favorite bl out of all countries ever, do with that information what you will. that jacket throw was felt by everyone in the village trust me i was there
Tumblr media
The Warp Effect: Army and Joe
T H EM! comšŸ‘mušŸ‘nišŸ‘cašŸ‘tionšŸ‘ Gmmtv fucked up FlukeThor but ArmyJoe stay iconic. this gif by @tenprems lives in my eyeballs rent free
Tumblr media
Laws of Attraction: Cha(r)n and Tin(n) and GALAXIA and Rose and Maya
... do I even need to say anything? all iconing in their own way
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Under The Skin: Shen Yi and Du Cheng
Okay, it's a cbromance BUT IT COUNTS because I said so. The enemies to lovers is THERE, the devotion, the admiration, the lust, the height difference. They went from "get out, you killed him" to "we can't let snipers shoot, my friend is in there". S2 when I am vibrating out of my skin. Fanfic writers I owe you my life.
Tumblr media
Choco Milk Shake: Uncle and Milk
just s2 when.
Tumblr media
Only Friends: Boston and Nick
Look, out of all that was going on I was invested in them the most, and the editing failed them. I was open about not expecting happy endings for any pairing (though we all knew that the branded pairs would get them), but I still wanted it to make sense. Theirs didn't for me. I wish we got the OF they wanted to make: with 6 forever-side-characters actors. im still here
Tumblr media
2. Actor pairings I'd die to see in something better than they have been in so far (aka I like their chemistry but the script was lacking):
Aou and Boom (We Are ain't it either, sorry)
Tumblr media
Earth and Bank (Destiny Seeker was fine, and we do not speak of Marry Go Round. let my man death grip his mans neck to all his and mine content)
Tumblr media
ETA: Toru and First (their chemistry in Y Destiny was through the fucking roof, War of Y was a mess (derogatory). And now they're not even a thing anymore)
Tumblr media
Okay woah that's too long already lol
Tagging everyone who want to share their blorbos! <3

Blake Wrapped #1: K-Dramas 2024
'Tis once more Blake Wrapped season. I watched nearly all of these dramas in the first half of the year, so it was fun to revisit them all and my opinions for this wrap-up! Reviews and pictures under the cut.
Cheese in the Trap (2016)
Tumblr media
Would be my favorite drama of all time if it werenā€™t for the plot/character nosedive around 2/3 of the way in, which destroyed the delicate psychological rendering of the main characters. TBH this drama gives me pain, but in a way that's also kind of enjoyable to tear apart. Aside its faults, it's beautifully filmed, perfectly cast, and did introduce me to Park Hae Jin (belovedest). 8.5/10 for the costuming, music, Kim Go-Eun's curly hair, and the first 10 eps.
Man to Man (2017)
Tumblr media
Saw this one purely because it starred Park Hae Jin, Park Sung Woong, and Chae Jung An, and they were the only good things about it. The plot volleyballed among different genres (action, comedy, thriller, romance) in a way that felt almost like a pastiche, but which never committed to the bit enough to bring it all into a satisfying whole. A star-studded and talented cast let down by poor direction/writing. 6.5/10 for the fun of shipping the wrong people.
Who Are You: School 2015 (2015)
Tumblr media
Yook Seung-jae gave me a SEVERE taste of second lead syndrome and carried the last few episodes. One of the best kdrama performances Iā€™ve ever seen. The whole cast was exceptional and held together the many mini-plots, which nicely dealt with real and relevant themes. Some later scenes felt unnecessarily drawn out to fill 16 eps, but at least every story and character arc felt complete. 8.5/10 for Kim So-hyunā€™s eyeliner being a paid actor.
The Killing Vote (2023)
Tumblr media
I had my eye on this one ever since I saw that Park Sung Woong won an award for his performance and then after getting to know PHJ, I put it to the top of my watch list. It absolutely delivered in terms of symbolism and suspense and had relatively few plot holes considering all its twists and reveals. The 12 ep structure worked well, though I hated the obvious season 2 setup in place of a proper finale. 8/10 for Seo Young-joonā€™s character stealing the heart of the show.
My Love from the Star (2013)
Tumblr media
This felt like the K-dramaest kdrama Iā€™ve seen so far in terms of tropes: philosophical dialogue about fate and humanity, (literal) time-stopping romance, murders, chaebol family tensions, a scene-stealing second lead, homoerotic hyung-dongsaeng friendships, non-existent female relationships, turtleneck sweaters, first snows, and hospital/police station scenes galore. Jun Ji Hyun is perfect and adorable and my wife. 8/10 for Kim Soo-hyun and Mr. Jangā€™s farewell.
Bad Guys (2014)
Tumblr media
Itā€™s clearly become a thing for me to watch a crime show because of my man of the moment and it ends up being underrated cinematic excellence. Gripping pace, sharp cinematography, and great characters are just the tip of the iceberg: everyone talks in poetic metaphor! Rachmaninoffā€™s ā€œVocaliseā€ is a central haunting leitmotif! Jo Dong-hyuk (in the middle there) looks personally and lovingly sculpted by God Himself! PHJ plays a tormented emo babygirl! 9/10 for everyone being unhinged.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016)
Tumblr media
Satisfyingly lived up to its reputation. Despite the emotional heartache, I did appreciate that the overarching theme was ā€œlove pushes you to make tons of bad decisions.ā€ And the ending wasnā€™t horrible, as I had been led to believe! Biggest gripe was Kang Ha-neulā€™s lifeless stare, but otherwise the whole supporting cast was fabulous. 9/10 for this iconic scene and the Death Song.
Winter Sonata (2002)
Tumblr media
This drama has been a classic in my family since I was young, though this was the first time I watched it through. Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo are lovable and brilliant in their leading roles with fantastic chemistry and an absolutely perfect ending scene. I find it hard to review it, because it's basically an emotion in and of itself. 9/10 for the OST to end all OSTs.
Again My Life (2022)
Tumblr media
This one had all the right elementsā€”atmospheric music, aesthetic direction, fascinating premise, good castā€”but the delivery justā€¦plodded a bit? I skipped five episodes in the middle and didnā€™t miss a substantial amount of plot, so this really should have been a 12-episoder. Also had the same downer ā€œefforts toward good are ultimately useless because evil is regenerative and eternalā€ message from Killing Vote that I didnā€™t love. 7/10 for a strong start.
From Now On, Showtime! (2022)
Tumblr media
A refreshingly fun and humorous take on magic, past lifetimes and ghosts. Started it for PHJ, finished it for the found family of ghosts and spirits, who captured the heart of the show and gave it necessary energy. Solid chemistry among all the actors, and I enjoyed the Easter eggs for other shows of this type, like TOTNT and Goblin. 8/10 for incredibly funny writing and a fabulous emotional ending.
Forest (2020)
Tumblr media
Thereā€™s a great drama in here somewhere, but the writer never exactly finds it. Jo Bo Ah and PHJ are fantastic (and their chemistry is off the charts) with some great set-piece scenes to develop their connection. Unfortunately, no rhythm or satisfying through-line was able to hold it together from a plot (or even a character) perspective, especially with the short-episode structure. 6.5/10 for the hand-touching scene and the kiss-under-the-bridge (that no one has gifed whyyy).
DNF: Deathā€™s Game (2023)
I like to think Iā€™ve gotten pretty chill about violence in shows, but this one had what felt like an undercurrent of glee in its depictions of the series of deaths that was so at odds with the message it was purporting to convey, to the point where I no longer believed in the message at all. Good premise, decent performances, tone just wasnā€™t for me.
Movies: Snow Is on the Sea/Snow in the Sea Breeze (2015)
Tumblr media
I watched this one for the plot, and the plot really was PHJ being sweet and cuddly and husband material and showing far more skin than I had seen in the 50 or so hours of his drama episodes combined. It makes cleaning a penguin enclosure the height of romance. Corny, tragic, melodramatic mush, 10/10.
The Beauty Inside (2015)
Tumblr media
Unexpectedly poignant with a lovely hook and great performances, grounded by the adorable Han Hyo-joo. I love ensemble cast concepts like this (imagine Doctor Who except for a daily regeneration) and the gender play conferred a sweet queer touch. Love wins, 10/10.
The Great Battle (2018)
Tumblr media
The battles were lifted almost verbatim from LOTR and some of the quieter plot beats were completely predictable but it still delivered a great visual spectacle. I have no idea why I watched this but it compelled me though. Gorgeous cinematography, 7/10.

Hana Yori Dango-Boys Over Flowers & Meteor Garden
The Final 2 Men That Make Up F4
My intro into Asian Dramas and such was these series and I don't pretend they were all perfect. Quite the opposite each adaptation had it's issues but when you look pass issues and still adore something or someone even. That's real admiration and love. So let's meet the 2 guys that help make up F4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 1: The 2 men that help make up F4 in the 1995 movie were just wallpaper. Unfortunately they were just there with no real storyline. And it was sad but I won't leave them out.
SAEKI KENSAKU played Nishikado Sojiro...surprisingly this gentleman had one acting credit and it was Hana Yori Dango in 1995. Then He retired from acting and no other information is available.
HASHIZUME KOICHI played Mimasaka Akira...this actor had many series to his credit but sadly he died 4 years after Hana Yori Dango in 1999 in a bike accident.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 2: 2001 Meteor Garden Adaptation seemed almost in the 70's or 80's F4 were all long haired cutie pies.
VANNESS WU (in the yellow) played Mei Zuo..
KEN CHU played Xi Men
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 3: In 2005 Japan's Hana Yori Dango Series. The other 2 Members of F4 was back to the same names as the 1995 Movie of the same name.
ABE TSUYOSHI played Mimasaka Akira
MATSUDA SHOTA played Nishikado Sojiro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 4: South Korea's Boys Over Flowers was unlike the others because no others used these names while both Japanese Versions used the same names as did Taiwan and China.
KIM BUM played the ladies man So Yi Jung
KIM JOON played Song Woo Bin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 5: China's Version called Meteor Garden just like Taiwan's Version returned Xi MEN & Mei Zuo. China's Version was excellent like the rest but it was a whopping 49 Episodes. All F4 Members had story arcs. Well they did in other versions as well.
Xi Men was played by CEASAR WU
Mei Zuo was played by CONNOR LEONG or LEON LEONG
So these handsome gentlemen rounded out the F4 in the Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese versions of this iconic story. Do you have a favorite of them. Or were they just friends of Domyouji Tsukuba & Hanazawa Rui/ Daoming Si & Hauze Lei
Actually I do like all of them but I do prefer Number 4 & Number 5. Because I am a huge fan of KIM BUM & KIM JOON and CEASAR WU & LEON LEONG were also excellent for me. But again I love all these guys.
@pose4photoml do you have a favorite?

Boys Planet, Episode 11: Gearing up for the final jam
Welcome back. This has turned out to be one interesting show. Weā€™ve been putting pins in several topics for later discussion, and believe me, once Iā€™m done with the recaps, we will go there. Jay Chang has a whole pin to himself. But itā€™s only fair to let this show finish having its say first. So letā€™s hearĀ Boys PlanetĀ out and dive right into Episode 11.
Now that the 3rd Mission is over, our trainees get a break. They pack their bags and take some pictures together in a photo booth before heading out. They know that eliminations are coming up, and not all of them will be moving on to the final mission. But for now, they definitely need a vacation.
We see cell phone footage of their time off. One of them, I think itā€™s Ricky, has an amazing art studio. Some of them go back to regular jobs they had taken time off from to be on this show. We see them with their families and pets and hanging out with their friends. I get a kick out of a scene where a trainee asks his friends who theyā€™ve been voting for on the show, and they tell him Sung Han Bin. The trainee asking the question is not Sung Han Bin.
Finally, itā€™s time to return to Planet Camp. Theyā€™re packing their bags to return for the eliminations, which means they probably wonā€™t unpack right away. The happy mood of the previous few days is darkening into anxiety.
Tumblr media
We return to our shiny-floored studio. There are only 18 survivor seats. This is going to be heartbreaking. Our trainees are stressed out. Even when they do their playful entrances, mugging for the cameras, itā€™s not as carefree as previous entrances. Their packed suitcases are probably still in the hallway.
After they are settled in, we are introduced to a new Star Master. Her name is Jeon So Mi. I look her up, and sheā€™s a legend. Sheā€™s a South Korean and Canadian singer and K-pop idol, a fourth degree black belt in Taekwondo, fashion designer, and philanthropist. And sheā€™s only 23 years old. If these guys have to endure another elimination round, at least they can be distracted by this amazing icon. As weā€™ve come to expect from trainees who encounter a beautiful woman, they are all struggling to form coherent sentences.
Letā€™s do this. And once again, we are going out of order with these rankings.
11th place is Park Han Bin.Ā Heā€™s jumped two spots. He won the highest individual score on Team Switch and has won that top spot on his team in all three missions. I still think heā€™ll make it to the final group.
12th place is Park Gun Wook.Ā Oof. He fell three spots. He was on Team En Garde, and I fully expected him to win the top spot on his team, but he lost to Kim Gyu Vin. Heā€™s gained a huge fan following among the Star Creators, so Iā€™m guessing their devotion will be what puts him in the final debut group. The Top 9 is going to look a little different this time.
15th place is Yoon Jong Woo.Ā He was in 15th place last time as well. We also learn here that heā€™s an independent trainee. He was the original leader of Team Over Me, but after the reshuffling debacle, he left his own team and joined Team Switch. I think it was the right move, considering how burned out he was after a week of wasted effort.
16th place is Geum Joon Hyun,Ā according to the translator, which left me scrambling through my notes until I saw his name on the screen, which saysĀ Kum Jun Hyeon.Ā What the hell with these translators? Anyway, he has slid from 10 to 16. He was on Team En Garde, but thatā€™s all I have of him in my notes. He just isnā€™t standing out to me. Unless the translators have been getting his name wrong all this time.
Tumblr media
Now itā€™s time for a flashback, because why not. I will admit, I like seeing the outdoor shots of Seoul in the springtime. The cherry blossoms are beautiful. Our boys are enjoying the sunshine at a camp site. Then a clothes rack is wheeled out, and they have to put on animal onesies.
Okay, this is another big thing in Korean culture. When K-pop idols do variety shows, at least one of them will inevitably have to wear an animal costume. I see it in Kdramas too. Put a pin in this, even though itā€™s not specifically about this show. I need to know why Korean culture is obsessed with making adults dress like toddlers on Halloween.
Tumblr media
Foreigners Jay and Ricky trying to communicate ā€œdaejoonggyotongā€ (traffic)
The trainees play games, like having to put on pants without using their hands. This is pretty funny to watch. When they team up and start using their teeth to pull up the pants of other contestants, the camera keeps trying to cut away before Mnet gets slapped with an indecency charge. Then thereā€™s another game about finding a racoon that I donā€™t fully understand. In another game, they try to convey words and phrases to each other while wearing noise-cancelling headphones. This game is particularly challenging for the foreigners, as all the messages are in Korean. Although ā€œKilling Partā€ is one of the phrases, but theyā€™ve been saying that in English the entire show, so I assume theyā€™ve adopted that phrase into Korean, just like English adopts words from other languages.
They end the evening with barbeque and fried chicken while still wearing their animal jammies. Okay, that was a fun flashback. I didnā€™t understand what was going on half the time, but it was really funny. Now back to the anxiety fest.
As they wait to hear the next ranking, Ricky says to Jay, ā€œLetā€™s survive together.ā€ I like seeing the bonds these trainees have formed over the past several weeks. Jay wonā€™t make the final group, but I want to see him do one more live performance.
Tumblr media
13th place is Jay.Ā Heā€™s dropped another spot, but heā€™s still here. This American will go down fighting. As the other trainees applaud, Hui remarks that Jay deserves to be on that final stage. The look on Jayā€™s face tells me he knows heā€™s probably not going to make it to the final group. I think the last mission taught him a hard lesson. He doesnā€™t flash that boyish smile once, even when his name is called.
14th place is Yoo Seung Eon.Ā Up three spots. Not bad. Someone please get him to his chair so he can get his blood pressure back to normal.
17th place is Lee Jeong Hyeon.Ā Ā Wow. He jumped up from 24th place. He was on Team Over Me, the group that won the 3rd mission and got to be onĀ M Countdown.Ā He breaks down in tears when his name is called. Iā€™m sure he thought he was going home.
Tumblr media
10th place is Hui.Ā Up one spot from before. Now to find out the Top 9.
9th place is Seok Matthew.Ā Dropped five spots and barely stayed in the Top 9.
8th place is Ricky.Ā Up from 14th place and finally in the Top 9. I still believe heā€™ll be in the final group. Heā€™s also got a huge fan base among the Star Creators. He seems to like the view from his new seat in the winnerā€™s circle.
7th place is Kim Gyu Vin.Ā Dropped one spot. He won the top individual score on Team En Garde, which probably helped keep him in the Top 9.
6th place is Keita.Ā Up from 8th place. Heā€™s another one who will probably make it to the final group. So far, thatā€™s three people Iā€™m betting on. We already know Gun Wook will make it, so now Iā€™m betting on Keita, Ricky, and Park Han Bin.
Tumblr media
5th place is Han Yu Jin.Ā Dropped two spots. He was on Team Say My Name and left the heart and chocolate milk for a classmate in the opening sketch. As he makes his way to his seat, we find out heā€™s only 17 years old.
4th place is Kim Tae Rae.Ā Up from 7th place. That strong voice from Team Switch is getting noticed by the voters.
3rd place is Kim Ji Woong.Ā Up from 5th place. Heā€™s our former BL actor who is getting closer to returning to his first love, K-pop. I hope heā€™s ready for the drop in salary.
2nd place is Zhang Hao, who has been absolutely killing it. Not only did Team Over Me win the Artist Battle, he was the top vote-getter in that group.
1st place is still Sung Han Bin,Ā keeping the Jooheon Pledge unbroken. He looks genuinely stunned.
Tumblr media
So now, weā€™re just waiting for 18th place, the last spot. Iā€™m still pulling for Na Kamden and Cha Woong Ki. I know weā€™ll have to lose at least one of them, and this is also the end of the line for sparkly Takuto. Weā€™ll also probably lose Haruto as well, so he and Takuto can go debut as TOZ. (Of course itā€™s an acronym. To Our Zone. God, I love K-pop.)
Yes, Iā€™m stalling. I donā€™t want to say goodbye to a lot of these trainees.
Tumblr media
18th place is ā€¦ Na Kamden!Ā He looks stunned, and Jay almost falls out of his chair. Our two Americans are still in the game. I donā€™t know if Kamden will make it to the final group, and I donā€™t feel strongly enough to bet on him, but Iā€™m glad Iā€™ll get to see both him and Jay perform again.
Jeon So Mi announces the final round of global voting will now begin for these 18 finalists. This time, Star Creators can vote once a day for just one trainee. Weā€™re really getting close to the end.
We watch the eliminated trainees gather their things and leave the dorm. The goodbyes are harder this time. Everyone hangs out in the rooms talking, reluctant to move on, even the survivors.
The next morning, we get more shots of springtime and cherry blossoms. There are a lot of empty beds in the dorm. Some trainees have rooms all to themselves now.
Tumblr media
A mystery guest strolls into the dorm, strumming a guitar. He sets up a mic stand and monitor and starts playing theĀ Boys PlanetĀ theme song at top volume, waking everyone up. Itā€™s todayā€™s Star Master, Kim Jae Hwan. Heā€™s a former member of Wanna One, along with our Star Master back in Episode 3, Hwang Min Hyun. Maybe he just got caught up watching these episodes and is here to get revenge for none of the trainees wanting to cover the Wanna One song in the first mission.
I love that most of the trainees try to ignore the song and go back to sleep. Wanna One gets zero respect on this show, and the snarky side of me is 100% here for it. Park Han Bin finally stumbles out of bed, looking like heā€™s about to tell Guitar Boy to knock off the racket, and then he sees the cameras and changes his mind, choosing to bow politely instead.
Guitar Boy (Iā€™m sorry, thatā€™s just going to be his name from now on) starts barging into the rooms of the other trainees, still singing and playing at the top of his lungs. If this were America, heā€™d be facing at least one loaded gun.
When the trainees finally stagger out of bed and gather around him in the hallway, he announces that heā€™s here as their morning alarm. He says this like itā€™s an honor being bestowed upon them, and I suddenly realize that at least half the trainees have no idea who he is.
Tumblr media
I laughed so hard at this. On every show Iā€™ve recapped so far, the trainees have lost their minds over every new judge, coach, or panelist, even the yoga lady back onĀ Hot Blood.Ā TheseĀ Boys PlanetĀ trainees even recognized the other Wanna One guy at the first mission. Iā€™m willing to be charitable and say they donā€™t recognize Guitar Boy because they havenā€™t wiped the sleep out of their eyes yet.
Guitar Boy tells them to join him in singing the theme song, and 18 bewildered and still-groggy voices join him in what Iā€™ll loosely call ā€œsong.ā€
Guitar Boy then invites them upstairs to the most awkward and uncomfortable-looking breakfast gathering Iā€™ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
As a socially-awkward introvert, this is my worst nightmare. And Iā€™m willing to bet a few of these trainees still have no idea who Guitar Boy is. I hope no one tells them. I hope that years from now, when they reminisce about being on this survival show, at least one of them says, ā€œBy the way, who even was that guy?"
Tumblr media
"Pssst ... Hui ... who is that guy?"
Our trainees get ginseng chicken soup for breakfast, and Guitar Boy tells them to prepare their thank-you speeches ahead of time in case they win, and they can trust him on that because heā€™s talking from experience. As the camera pans around the room, I can tell that some trainees STILL donā€™t know who he is. I canā€™t believe he never introduced himself.
Wait ā€“ Hui is sitting right there. Check with him. Heā€™s been in the industry for a while. He must know who this guy is. Hui needs to help out his fellow trainees by saying in a loud voice, ā€œWhy yes, Kim Jae Hwan from Wanna One andĀ (checking cell phone under the table)Ā many solo projects! That is an excellent idea! And you would know, seeing as youĀ (checking phone)Ā Ā finished fourth in another survival reality show calledĀ Produce 101! RIGHT, GUYS?ā€
Guitar Boy says heā€™s here to deliver their final mission and leads them out into the big room where they learned about their previous missions. They are standing on a much smaller platform now. Theyā€™re told that their final mission will take place at an amazing location. A screen lights up to show them Jamsil Indoor Stadium.
Oh my God ā€¦ I just Googled it. Jamsil Indoor Stadium is a 11,000-seat arena that has hosted concerts, Olympic games, and awards shows. This place is insane. I think itā€™s the biggest venue weā€™ve seen on any of these survival shows, if you donā€™t count the great outdoors onĀ Wild Idol.
Tumblr media
We see blueprints on the screen showing that the winnerā€™s circle has been set up in the stadium, and itā€™s where the final debuting group will be announced. Iā€™m getting goosebumps. This is going to be amazing. We learn that 7,000 Star Creators will be in the audience. Letā€™s hope their voting devices are working properly.
The mission is called the ā€œFinal Top 9 Battle,ā€ which is disappointingly unimaginative. How about ā€œJam Battle in Jamsilā€? Thatā€™s what Iā€™m calling it instead.
The trainees will be split into two teams of nine. They will perform newly-written songs, just like in the 3rd Mission. The first song is ā€œJelly Pop,ā€ a bubbly teenybop dance pop song with really fast choreography. The second one, ā€œHot Summer,ā€ is more my speed. Itā€™s a beast idol pop song with suggestive moves in the choreo. (In a confessional, Ricky says, ā€œThat song is mine.ā€) Weā€™re told that they person doing the Killing Part of ā€œHot Summerā€ will be performing on the arenaā€™s stage lift. This is the chance of a lifetime. These guys will fight hard for that part.
Now for the trainees to choose their songs. On the floor in front of them is a largeĀ Boys PlanetĀ banner. It gets pulled away to show the position charts for both songs. Theyā€™re going to play the same mean game they played when they chose songs for the 2nd Mission. The lowest-ranking trainee chooses first, and then one by one, the next trainee can take an unoccupied spot or push someone out of a spot they want. Sung Han Bin, still the top-ranked trainee, will get whatever spot he wants in the end.
Did this show not learn anything from the last time they did this? What if a strong vocalist gets pushed into a rapper position? What if all the rappers wind up on one team, with no vocalist? The producers ofĀ Boys PlanetĀ should have gone back and watchedĀ No Mercy.Ā Those judges organized the teams specifically to see how the different performing styles worked together. Each team had the right balance. This is just random.
It gets worse. When a higher-ranking trainee pushes someone out, they can decide the song and part they want the displaced trainee to move to. Iā€™m guessing the person who came up with this idea is the same one who came up with the points-stealing strategy onĀ Wild Idol.
The Killing Part is missing from both position charts. The trainees will all need to audition for this part, and the Star Creators will vote for the winners. Well, at least thatā€™s fair. Unless the show decides to shuffle the teams again.
The trainees start making their choices. Poor Yoo Seung Eon, who wanted ā€œHot Summerā€ the minute he heard it, gets pushed over to ā€œJelly Pop.ā€ Heā€™s quite upset about this. But the worst insult is when Sung Han Bin chooses last. He pushes Jay all the way to SubVocal 6 on ā€œJelly Pop.ā€ Jay is not happy. I donā€™t blame him. This is a stupid way to choose teams.
Speaking of which, here are the teams:
Tumblr media
Team Jelly Pop, from top, left to right: Hui, Yoo Seung Eon, Zhang Hao, Park Gun Wook, Kum Jun Hyeon, Park Han Bin, Jay Chang, Na Kamden, and Seok Matthew
Tumblr media
Team Hot Summer, from top, left to right: Sung Han Bin, Kim Tae Rae, Kim Ji Woong, Han Yu Jin, Ricky, Lee Jeong, Hyeon, Kim Gyu Vin, Keita, Yoon Jong Woo
Jay and Kamden are on the same team. Everyone does wind up looking evenly distributed in terms of talent, though not everyone is happy. Team Hot Summer has most of the Top 9.
On to rehearsals. Team Hot Summer chooses Yoon Jong Woo as their Leader because heā€™s the only one who wants the job. Iā€™m surprised, since he got burned out after the Great Reshuffling Debacle and left his own team. I guess heā€™s willing to risk it now that theyā€™re in the home stretch. Of course, they all want the Killing Part. They need to choose a temporary Killing Part trainee for now, so it goes to Sung Han Bin. But the others are determined to win the hearts of the Star Creators and take that position away from him.
Over to Team Jelly Pop. Kum Jun Hyeon wants to be the Leader, but then, so does half the team. Out of desperation, Kum Jun Hyeon says if heā€™s chosen as Leader, heā€™ll wake up an hour earlier than the others. The others point out that they gain nothing from that. Dude, you need to offer to get up earlier so you can make them breakfast or do their laundry. Donā€™t you know how negotiating works?
Seok Matthew knows better. He bribes everyone with snacks. Gun Wook offers to bring food AND do their laundry. Somehow, in the end, Hui is voted the leader, even though he doesnā€™t offer anything. I donā€™t think ANYONE on this team knows how negotiating works.
Huiā€™s first job is to choose the temporary Killing Part. The sub-vocalists are gunning for that part because their vocal parts are very small. They decide to learn the choreography first, and it hits them right away how hard it will be to learn. Lots of twisting and turning. Gun Wook is worried heā€™ll dislocate a hip.
Seok Matthew winds up getting the Killing Part for now.
Iā€™m surprised this is how the episode ends. Choosing song parts is important but kind of dull to watch. I guess weā€™re gearing up for the Jam Battle in Jamsil. So much to look forward to. Will the trainees ever figure out who Guitar Boy is? Did they get to keep their animal onesies? Exactly how many pins have I put into these recaps that Iā€™m going to have to follow up on? Stay tuned!
