Radiohead Guitarist Jonny Greenwood joined Israeli Mizrachi musician Dudu Tassa in Israel to sing Arabic love songs recently. He received a ton of pushback from BDS and other movements. But he stood his ground.  Jonny is married to Israeli artist Sharona Katan, whose family lost a nephew in the Israel-Hamas war. His appearance came the day after being seen at protests in Tel Aviv, calling for the release of the hostages in Gaza and for new elections in Israel. Not long after October 7, he tweeted, “Condolences to the families of the innocent concert goers, children and civilians of all ages murdered, raped or abducted in these massacres. It’s impossible not to despair.”

Record 2710. #TheSmile #ALightForAttractingAttention Side project for key Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood with the addition of drummer Tom Skinner, plus produced by longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Goodrich. Listening thus far I can't help but speak the obvious, it sounds like Radiohead but different. As much as I love Thom Yorke's solo + Atoms For Peace stuff, I was hoping for something different with Jonny's presence, and it is. It's a Covid lockdown album, but also a product of other band members being unavailable for other reasons. The Smile "Wall of Eyes" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

There is so much to celebrate here! First off - it was announced today that the Radiohead side project The Smile have a new album Wall of Eyes dropping on Jan. 26, 2024. The band, which features Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood as well as Tom Skinner, had my #1 Album of 2022 with A Light for Attracting Attention.

Secondly, the band released the music video for the title track from the new album and it was directed by Yorke and Greenwood's frequent collaborator / one of the greatest filmmakers of the now Paul Thomas Anderson. In addition to all of his films that Greenwood has composed the score for, PTA has directed the music videos for Radiohead's "Daydreaming", "Present Tense", and "The Numbers". PTA also directed Anima, a short film based on Yorke's solo album of the same name. By this point they are one of the great music / filmmaker collaborators.

Third, the video is amazing! This music video features Yorke in a number of roles. It's almost like he was a silent film star in another life or something!

A special appreciation post for @thesmiletheband (since I just went and saw them up in Dallas) Their debut album ‘A Light For Attracting Attention’ was hard for me to stop listening to - and I didn’t want to overplay it - so I tried to only listen to it sparingly, but failed miserably as the year went on. It’s just too good. More recently they released a 10” Single Opening with a William Blake poem read by @cillianmurphyofficiall and some live tracks from their live stream performances at @magazinelondon I went and saw the band up in Dallas (as it was their only stop in Texas) and loved every moment of it. I was blown away by the electric energy of the band and hope they continue making new sounds together! After the show, the band all signed memorabilia and merch for an entire line of people stretching around the corner of the building. Eventually me and some other fans were told by their management that they intended to sign EVERYTHING - so I got in line and was fortunate enough to get all 3 band members to sign their tour poster.
