what is your favourite reverse robins dynamic?

Admittedly I'm very fond of the Dick and Jason dynamic that came about from my other reverse robin au posts, but somehow Damian and Tim edge it out (though I'm also extraordinarily fond of how I imagine dami/jay in this verse, too!) Maybe I'm a bit weak for it because this low-key could have been Dick and Jason's relationship if things were just slightly different... which just adds to my love of reverse robin au because the comparison is a bit tragic. ;U;

Damian + Tim

Where Damian recognizes that he's outgrowing his own mantle, so he seeks out his own replacement

That Damian's bleeding heart chooses Tim (intelligent, resourceful, tenacious, insufferable) is something Tim never lets Damian live down, later on in their friendship partnership

These two having been through it together. Damian being there every step of the way, too. From training Tim to take over the mantle, to his first patrols. Building up Tim's confidence and being all smug and proud when Tim comes into his own

There would be a lot of trust between them. Because Tim knows he can rely on Damian. Damian has proven this time and again by simply being there (with wicked, prideful smirks at Tim's competence, with patience and a firm hand at any setbacks; challenging him, having his back, and being bluntly honest in the face of any of Tim's insecurities that crop up). And Damian just - he chose Tim, of course that confidence goes both ways.

So yes, although Tim stops being so starry-eyed as he grows up, the respect for Damian will always be there. It's why Tim strives to become less a mentee, more a partner

Because he wants to be there for Damian, too.

That they become friends partners was only natural.

Make no mistake though, the majority of the time these two are just griping at each other, about each other

(Because as they grow up together it becomes fun for Damian to needle Tim. And of course Tim is influenced by this and taunts Damian right back. And it becomes their norm. It’s something Damian half heartedly complains about because Tim used to be ‘respectful’ what happened? And Tim scoffs because Damian happened, that’s what).

But yeah, Tim being the one to challenge Damian when it's needed. Or Tim squaring off with Bruce whenever Bruce and Damian have a rare spat

Extra Damian & Timmers + Supers

These two both have their own super besties and like hell they both haven't had those awkward encounters where they bump into one another at the Clark home in the mornings

Truth be told, ambiguous Dami/Jon and Tim/Kon because it can’t not be a thing where Damian and Tim are forever uncertain about what's going on and their respective besties claim it's platonic but the doubt is there forever hahaha

That aside, Damian and Tim challenging each other a lot and it's really motivating for them both. Meanwhile everyone else is concerned because they both seem kind of mean? It’s how they care though 💖

For some background on what's below this, Tim + Jason:

Because Tim never outgrows the Robin mantle, it's Damian who takes it away in true Bruce fashion

By bringing in street kid Jason and blindsiding Tim like none other

There's no ill intent behind it. It's entirely because Damian thinks so highly of Tim that he shoves him out of the proverbial nest

But Tim doesn't take it that way and it becomes their biggest fight

Because Tim accuses Damian of feeling Tim is lacking. Tim demands to know why he's being replaced. What the fuck he did wrong?

Nothing, is the answer to that. Because Tim took Robin and made them to be something even greater than what Damian left behind. The respect and care Tim put into Robin is something Damian doesn't take lightly; he's most grateful

What he's not about is Tim getting all combative and nasty though, especially when Damian is doing something for Tim

Just classic batboy miscommunications, y'know?

Anyway, because Tim lashes out, Damian ends up lashing out too. It eventually comes out that Damian doesn't want Tim getting 'complacent' in Damian's shadow and Tim shuts down on him so hard

Damian knows that Tim could be the best

Tim's insecurities run away with him and he feels entirely the opposite (like he misstepped somewhere, like Damian never saw him like an equal, that he's already replaced, etc etc)

Basically Tim leaves for the tower and leaves Damian to look after Jason, if that's what he wants so bad.

A falling out because Damian assumed and Tim is betrayed and it's sadness because even if Robin works with Batman, Tim has always been Damian's partner first and foremost.

Something something Tim turning on Jason and being the very definition of 'never meet your heroes'. Just Tim giving Jason the coldest stare, the most damning of once overs before clicking his tongue (a bad habit picked up from Damian)

Oh. Jason getting stuck with the knowledge that he's the bane of Robin's existence. And then Bruce's disappointment, too, because he seriously just comes in to work and his well-oiled machine has a cog in it that doesn't fit yet

So Jason is put in this position with a lot of pressure to be the best. So that Batman will approve of him, so that Robin will accept him, so that he doesn't disappoint Damian and make all the sacrifices he made for Jason worthless

And angst with the struggle in finding his place in a world that didn't need/want him beyond Damian's willful fancies

Damian & Tim + Jason

Damian being there when everything falls apart in Ethiopia

For whatever reason, Damian is there in Bruce's steed while Bruce is indisposed elsewhere

And Damian is caught in that same position: save the lives of countless innocent people or save the life of this boy who stole his heart

Though Bruce gives the order, Damian goes against it.

This being the first time Damian has ever done so, but he does it without regret because Jason is his

And because Damian chooses Jason, he's able to get to the warehouse in time to save him. Not from the beating, but at least from the worst of the explosion.

So torn between Jason having saved his birth mom or that not happening and Damian making the conscious decision to let her burn ooooooo >>

Anyway, Damian's actions have consequences. With Bruce. Who goes off on him so hard despite Damian bringing his son back to him. And he bears it with squared shoulders and raised chin, because he has no reason to be ashamed. Still, Bruce is his father so Damian shows him respect

Until Bruce goes off on Damian's loyalties. Bruce being so worked up and betrayed that he questions if Damian is still under the influence of the League, if he's theirs as opposed to his

Damian is no one's. Though, that might not be right. He's Robin's. Still, he bristles at the accusation. And it leads to the ugliest fight they've ever had, which leads to Damian leaving the family with the seething proclamation that he will return to the League

Something something, Tim going after Damian and trying to parse out how serious Damian is. He can't just leave, not with Jason still--

'Look after him for me.'

And Tim might hate him for this one. Because Jason is going to wake up and see how everything fell apart. He's going to see that Damian is gone and Jason will know it's his fault.

'That's unfair.'

'Do it for me anyway.'

And Tim does, even if he’s angry and abandoned and upset.

I am rereading omega verse wet nurse au and it’s so funny how Bruce keeps going “oh good, Jon acted like a human and flied a little, oh good jon is convincing enough, Carl is luckily not around kids often, means this seems normal” love this so much and I also love how trans alpha Carl was even a possibility in Bruce’s brain, love that so much! God the fact that Kon isn’t too into human babies but kryptonian babies? Super cute!

Bugtong Ko at Ng Buwan - The Commentary

I-share ko lang 'to bago matapos ang Buwan ng Wika.

So, ito 'yong tula na ginawa namin ng tropa kong si Jon MDA mula 2024, May 28 to July 06. Nabuo ko 'yong original version nito around 2021 noong patay na patay ako sa isang guy na nakasabay namin mag-hike sa Nagpatong Rock Formation sa Tanay, Rizal; na nagtatrabaho sa Royal Caribbean. Ang pangalan niya ay Kim, siya 'yong tinutukoy ko na "diwata" sa tula (hindi ko na ida-drop 'yong full name niya, baka out of nowhere mag-pop 'to sa browser niya. Hahaha!).

Tungkol sa tula, lumalabas talaga ang pagiging makata ng tao kapag ano eh, alam mo na. Hehe. So, ayun, nagawa ko ito, sobrang mababaw lang, hindi naman seryoso. Kaya may mga parts sa tula na kapansin-pansin na mabababaw na salita lang 'yong ginamit kumpara sa mga ginamit ni Jon sa parts niya - mabubulaklak na mga salita talaga. Sa totoo lang, naki-cringey-han na ako kapag nababasa ko 'yong original version nito. Ganoon pala talaga 'no? Ngunit dahil sa tulong ni Jon, noong inilapat niya 'yong POV niya sa tula ko, suddenly nakaramdam ako ng kilig at kiliti, na matagal nang nawala, noong nawala 'yong paghanga ko kay Kim.

Akala ko sasabayan lang ni Jon 'yong flow o 'yong level ng tula ko. Ang sabi niya noong unang nabasa niya 'yong tula, para sa kanya buo o tapos na daw ito kaya tinanong niya ako kung ano pa ang gusto kong maramdaman sa tula. Sabi ko wala na, bukod sa wala na rin naman akong nararamdaman sa taong nag-inspire sa akin na isulat 'yon pero sabi ko curious ako sa magiging POV niya, sinabi ko rin na pwede niyang sagutin 'yong tula ko in his POV tapos separate piece na lang para hindi na kailangang i-merge. Fast forward, pinasa na niya 'yong first draft niya. Sobrang namangha ako dahil ang ganda ng mga verses na nilapat niya, malalalim at makukulay na mga salita, parang mas naging "fantasy" 'yong tula ko. Pero the downside is that, 'yong level ng verses ko hindi tumutugma sa lalim ng verses niya. It didn't sit right with me. So, sabi ko, magrerevise ako ng mga words para lumalim kahit kaunti. I was able to make revisions naman. At noong gabi na pinasa na niya 'yong supposedly final draft, napansin ko na naman na parang hindi balanse 'yong mga lines bawat verses. Halimbawa, sa first verse, meron akong 4 lines, Si Jon mayroon siyang 5 lines. Sa second verse, mayroon akong 6 lines, si Jon naman ay mayroong 5 lines, and so on. So I decided na magdagdag pa ng lines para magbalanse lang. Same-day edit kumbaga.

Ito 'yong pinaka-paboritong kong linya na naidagdag "Noong ika'y nakasama, nakadaupang-palad, mga ngiti ay nang-aalipin, Hindi ko inakalang ang mga ito'y aking hahanap-hanapin." Nabanggit ko kanina na wala na akong gustong maramdaman sa tula, at wala na rin akong nararamdamang espesyal kay Kim. Itong mga linyang ito ay wala nang kinalaman sa kanya. Sa totoo niyan, lahat ng mga linyang idinagdag ko ay tumutukoy na sa isang tao, isang taong napakamalapit sa akin. Itong dalawang linya na ito ang pinaka-naglalarawan sa nararamdaman ko noong mga panahong nirerevise ko 'to. Lalo na 'yong part na "mga ngiti ay nang-aalipin", I was like "Saan galing 'to?" to the point na parang ayoko nang isama 'to sa tula dahil gagamitin ko na lang sana ito sa future piece na gagawin ko. Mas seryoso. Mas sigurado. Biro ko pa nga sa sarili ko "Sa Philippine literature ba, may gumamit na ng linyang ito? Ipapa-copyright ko sana" Haha. Ang korni, pero ganyan ka-espesyal 'yang linya na yan.

"Mga ngiti ay nang-aalipin." So, kaninong ngiti ba yan?

It turns out, parang naging distraction ko lang pala si Kim from a one-sided crush I had back in 2019. I have this friend na sobrang pinupush ako sa kanya after the hike; ichat ko daw, yayain ko daw maghike minsan, etc. But the truth is, siya 'yong crush ko since 2019. At siguro, kaya masyadong intense 'yong infatuation ko kay Kim noon dahil for the first time in a long time, nakaramdam ako ng distraction.

Sa kanya, kanyang mga ngiti ang tinutukoy ko sa linya na yan. Guess what? Bumalik 'yong feelings ko sa aking kaibigan after 5 years. "Noong ika'y nakasama, nakadaupang-palad.." - ito 'yong sandali noong naghawak kami ng mga kamay noong nag-aaral pa lang akong mag-ice skating. Tangina diba? Ilang taon kong pinatay 'yong feelings ko, tapos bumalik nang ganon-ganon lang? Totoong hindi ko inakalang ang mga ngiti niya, ang presensiya niya, ay hahanap-hanapin ko noong mga panahon iyon.

Hindi pala ito commentary sa sinulat naming tula, confession pala ito. Hahaha. Ayun lang.

August 31, 2024 update: Sinusubukan ko ulit patayin 'yong feelings ko sa kanya. Just like the last time. Wala eh. Totoo nga mula sa pangalawang berso, ang umiibig ay handang matalo.

Hahaha “when she has free time” being key here. I mean she also likes to hike, she’s a big fan of the outdoors (aka why she’s dedicated her life to it practically.) She likes to read, especially after stressful days, she likes to watch cheesy rom coms and drink wine, she likes to go out and do stuff with Missandei and Irri— I think they’re all secretly Podrick Payne fans and they always go to his concerts together.

I do not have a backstory for the cats’ names in this ‘verse other than begging the audience to please ignore canon Dany’s unfortunate habit of naming things after dead people she knows. I tried to come up with a reason she would name a cat after Drogon and came up empty so... please ignore any correlation 😂

We all know that so many things from the books have been lost in translation to television but what part of ASOIAF do you most wish D&D had included in the series?

I’m actually not as well-versed in the books as you might think I am hahaha, but I will say this. The one thing I wish GoT invented for the show that I wished they hadn’t has to be the Sansa x Ramsay storyline. I hated that. I absolutely 150% loathed it. There had to be a better way for Sansa to end up closer to Jon other than making her go through this plotline. She deserved better than that, as does Jeyne in the books tbf, but honestly? It was stupid and it made me really uncomfortable and I just hated it. 

I really wished we got to see more of Sansa as Alayne Stone. I feel like that was such a huge part of what made Sansa who she is and they really didn’t do it properly at all. 

Tbh, if I could erase sexual violence from ASoIaF and GoT altogether I would, but I know it serves as a way to remind us that this is an extremely patriarchal world that views women as nothing more than property, which makes characters like Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Margaery, Danielle, Olenna, etcetc all the more powerful. But god, I hate it.

Can we please talk about the bullshit that is the claim that Lyanna chose the name Aegon for her son? After Rickard and Brandon, her father and brother fucking died because of her and Rhaegar? idec that ist's a traditional Targaryen name, if Lyanna Stark were the stubborn women everyone claimed she was she would have given her son a fucking Stark first name

Hahaha anon, sure. (Sorry I didn’t get to this for a couple of days–it got buried under some rather unsavory other messages.)

Honestly, I feel kind of bad for the people who only watch the show who may have no idea why there’s a brouhaha about #SpareAegon. I think they mentioned Aegon’s name once in an earlier season–very forgettable. Otherwise I think most show-only viewers associate “Aegon” with “Aegon the Conqueror.” (Which is a slightly weird association for a hero if it’s intentional … not sure what they were going for there.)

The only explanation in the show-verse that I think makes sense of the name choice is that Lyanna bought into Rhaegar’s prophecy dealio (if indeed that’s a thing in the show-verse at all–I’m not sure we actually know that). Given that they apparently fell into ~unproblematic love~ in the show-verse (so far as we know), that’s the only way I can make sense of her naming her son after Rhaegar’s other (dead) son. I suppose it could represent a different kind of stubbornness.

(In neither the books nor the show do we know what Lyanna knew about her brother and family. It’s entirely possible Rhaegar kept a lot of knowledge from her, possibly including the cause of the war itself. Then again, she seems to understand that Jon would be in danger, so she’s obviously not completely ignorant.)

I doubt this is true in the books at all, but this is one case where compartmentalizing “what’s happening on the show” from “what we know about the bookverse situation” is probably a good idea. Lots of objections I’ve read seem to rely solely on information that was only presented in the books that never appeared on the show, and I think that’s kind of dicey when it comes to arguing about what’s canon unless it’s just a comparison (which would inherently acknowledge their separateness/difference as two separate canons that are related but not co-identical).

(I actually subscribe to the ~classic~ theory that Ned named Jon after Jon Arryn, the man who was not his biodad but cared for him and protected him like a father, just as Ned did for Jon. I don’t mean that Jon’s Targ name doesn’t matter; I mean I think there literally isn’t one. NO TARGARYEN NAMES FOR US! WE NAME OUR JONS AFTER IMPORTANT PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS THAT CREATE MEANINGFUL NARRATIVE PARALLELS LIKE MEN!)

I know that feeling all too well! I'm never going to be able to watch any of the shows where actors such as Denis O'Hare, Joe Gilgun, or Jon Bernthal are involved without thinking of the characters on here because they're just too iconically intertwined. Toreador!Anne is such an interesting concept because it… kind of implies there’s room for her to have been groomed in Camarilla-esque powerplay and social/political ploys right from the get-go instead of having to navigate it (mostly) on her own. Would make some things easier, some things harder.

Yes! It changes a great deal of Anne’s future, truthfully. Being embroiled in politics and under a watchful public eye makes vigilantism all but impossible and lacking the secretive training so characteristic of the Nosferatu changes how she must approach things. I think she’s much more likely to end up on the road aimed at becoming a Harpy in this verse rather than the cold corporate overlord. Additionally, I think it forces her to cool a lot of her rage because she has an attentive sire who is able to pay attention to the warning signs in her actions and demeanor - it prevents her from losing a lot more humanity.

I do think she has a difficult adjustment period, though. Going from Nosferatu culture to Toreador culture has to be like being dropped in an ice bath after walking a sweltering desert for years: extremely shocking and potentially fatal!

Okay I’m gonna tell you and then I’m gonna need you to send me your theory I WANNA KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

Personally I think that Jon fell in love with her when they were at Tormund’s up North. When he told her about his past and she just looked at him with no judgement and told him he was strong– I wanted that to really be a turning point for Jon, for him to realize he’s not as broken as he thinks he is. And I think that realization fueled by the fact that it’s Dany telling him that, and he already cares about her more than he thinks he probably should, is when he really fell in love with her. 

Obviously Dany hasn’t realized she’s in love with Jon yet but I think her moment is kinda similar to Jon’s– that moment in the hospital when she tells him everything and he just holds her. Dany’s been so afraid of being left and broken again, so when Jon just stays in that moment, holds her and comforts her and accepts her and all her hangups and fears and tells her to take her time, that’s when she really falls in love with him. Ultimately I think that’s so integral to these two in this ‘verse– they’ve both kind of accepted the fact that they’re never going to find someone to accept all their flaws, put up with their pasts and reservations, and then they find each other. So it makes sense that those moments where the other just completely accepts them, scars and all, is when they really fall in love.
