Dolly Parton (1946-) solo Songs: "Jolene," "I Will Always Love You" Defeated Opponents: Alice Coltrane, Ruth Brown, Patti Smith, Linda Ronstadt, Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin Propaganda: "One of the best country (and any) musicians to grace us with her talents for decades! A bimbo with a brain and we love her! Beyoncé and Whitney Houston covered her songs. This woman supports women! And literacy! But also her voice is one of a kind and she knows how to command any stage she's on." "She's one of the world's best-selling musicians and she's an actress! Shes's also an advocate for LGBT rights, gives money to HIV/AIDS research, and many more causes. She donates one book per month to every kid born in Tennessee up until they're 5 years old. She put a lot of money into COVID research. Her large chest is so well-known that it's been written about in songs, military tanks have been named after her, and Dolly the cloned sheep shares her name. Also, she apparently wrote Jolene and Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You in the same day!" "She's adorable. She's funny. She smart and business savvy enough that she would probably be a billionaire if she wasn't also a genuinely wonderful human being who gives tons and tons of money away to various charities and causes. She's so supportive of younger artists and artists of color and the queer community. She's always so gracious and genuinely excited when new artists cover her songs. She's the best thing to ever come from the state of Tennessee and I love her entirely. We do not deserve her but I'm glad we have her."
Nina Simone (1933-2003) solo Songs: "Feelin' Good," "Wild is the Wind" Defeated Opponents: Siouxsie Sioux, Patsy Cline, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Cher, Sister Rosetta Tharpe Propaganda: "She has a hard taking-no-shit attitude that instantly turns me on" "music peaked here everyone else can go home"

MLP: FiM X Trolls Pt. 1: Applejack and Rainbow Dash
More info below cut!!!!
Applejack -> April-Jolene Smith
Rainbow Dash -> Rebel D.C.
April-Jolene Smith (AKA AJ Smith):
• Country Troll
• Name based on Jolene by Dolly Parton
• Put her in pants AND a skirt bc she wears a skirt as a human but she seems more like a pants gal
• has 3 apples on her in homage to her cutie mark
Rebel D.C.:
• Rock Troll
• Name based on AC/DC
• Gave her rainbow hair because I couldn’t NOT put rainbow hair on RAINBOW DASH but I washed out the colors to fit w/ Rock Troll standard design
• Her earring is her cutie mark!
AJ/DC (ship name) Shenanigans:
• They butt heads a LOT. Rebel pretends to despise Country music and is the poster child for anti-country sentiment but very honestly only does it specifically to piss off AJ
• AJ takes the higher ground here by making it VERY CLEAR she doesn’t have any sort of problems with Rock music, making Rebel look like a dickhead
• AJ still plays the bass, but this time it’s a classic cello bass instead of an electric one
• Rebel still plays the guitar, but it’s got blades on the sides so it’s an actual “ax”
• AJ is very strong and is good friends with both Delta Dawn and Growly Pete
• Rebel and Barb have CRAZY beef that makes no sense at all (they don’t like each other because they remind the other of all the bad parts of themself by simply existing)
• Rebel is in a band called the Rainbooms, think riot grrrl meets System of a Down, and is the frontman
• AJ is in a country sort of jugband with her family and takes the singing when Apple Bloom doesn’t (they’re called Apple Pie in the Sky)
• Eventually when the mane six all come 2gether, Rebel and AJ play their respective instruments for it!!!
• AJ works as a rancher for Lonesome Flats alongside her family; they live on the edge of the town but are often visited by other Country Trolls because of how essential and overall amicable they are
• Rebel works as a workout coach and she is both brutal and beloved; training with her is taxing but she is super supportive and helps people change their mindsets
Fluttershy and Twilight next !!!!!

Watch: HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Surprises Cover Band By Joining Them For 'Here's To Us' Duet
HALESTORM singer Lzzy Hale surprised a cover band at JBJ's Nashville Thursday night (June 27) by joining them on stage for a version of the HALESTORM song "Here's To Us".
YouTube user xSacramentofLove, who uploaded video of Hale's appearance, wrote in a description accompanying the clip: "Stopped in to check out Jon Bon Jovi's new Nashville bar last night, this really awesome cover band was playing. They started playing a crowd request for HALESTORM's 'Here's To Us', when Lzzy Hale herself surprises the band and they end up doing a duet!"
The members of HALESTORM are also no strangers to covering other people's songs, having released three cover EPs so far, including the latest one, "ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP", which came out in January 2017.
In the summer of 2022, HALESTORM shared its covers of Adele's "Hello" and Dolly Parton's "Jolene" via social media.
In 2011, HALESTORM released the six-track "ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP", which saw them take on tracks by SKID ROW, Lady Gaga, TEMPLE OF THE DOG, GUNS N' ROSES, HEART and THE BEATLES. Two years later, the "ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP" featured covers of JUDAS PRIEST, DAFT PUNK, AC/DC, Pat Benatar, FLEETWOOD MAC and Marilyn Manson.
The aforementioned "ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP" saw HALESTORM covering classic songs by WHITESNAKE, Sophie B. Hawkins, JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS, TWENTY ONE PILOTS, SOUNDGARDEN and METALLICA.
Back in 2017, HALESTORM bassist Josh Smith spoke to RingRocker.com about how he and his bandmates go about picking which songs to record for their series of covers EPs. "We start out with basically everyone… Our team… Oh my God! My dad finds out that we're doing a cover album, all I get is texts: 'Oh, you should do this.' But anyone… anyone who finds out we're doing a covers album, all of a sudden you're just getting this crazy list," he said. "So it literally starts out with e-mails of lists and lists, and somehow, over months, we kind of whittle down our list until we get to a short list of maybe ten songs or less. And then we record 'em and see what works and see what we like."
He continued: "Now, after the first one, we sort of followed a similar formula with the second one in that it's very generational — we have a song from '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, a contemporary pop song… So that was a nice way to pick our songs. Really, that has been the template."
According to Josh, there is at least one added benefit to covering other people's songs when it comes to HALESTORM working on original material. He explained: "What's really cool is that when we do pick these songs, they really do influence us, because it's Songwriting and Performing 101. Where you have to deconstruct a song — a legendary song, essentially — you deconstruct it, and then rebuild it to how it works for us. And it really influences us in a lot of ways."
Added drummer Arejay Hale: "When we did 'Slave To The Grind' [from SKID ROW], we were, like, 'Oh, man! We need a song like this.' And then we wrote 'Love Bites', which is pretty much just off the feel of 'Slave To The Grind'. It's cool, 'cause we used to do that. We used to do three- or four-hour shows with covers and originals. And you're right — it is like training. And I always recommend that for newer artists, younger artists that wanna learn how to play drums or guitar. I always say the best way to really get good and learn how to develop your own style is to learn the styles of other people and learn other songs that you like or that challenge you. And it kind of makes you think differently. It's, like, 'Oh, this guy did these chords,' or, 'This guy played this kind of groove.' 'I bet I can do that in an original song.' So, yeah, it's kind of like training."
Arejay and his sister Lzzy (vocals, guitar) formed the band in 1998 while in middle school. Guitarist Joe Hottinger joined the group in 2003, followed by Smith in 2004.

24, 26, and 27 for Alex!! I'm not sated, I need more knowledge about your OC 😈
24: can he play any instruments
Oooo 24 is fun because Alex is a very musical guy. He started out playing the violin and while he enjoyed it it wasn’t the best fit.
His true love is his emerald green Paul reed smith electric guitar that he named Jolene. It was the first guitar he bought with his own money, he got it from a pawn shop when he was 17
He also has experience with piano and acoustic guitar, and a small amount of experience with bass and drums as well as harp. He’s also a rather talented vocalist
Music was a huge thing of importance to him, it was his outlet as an extremely fucked up and angsty teen that carried over into adulthood as a genuine passion and love for the community and art form. I like to think he co-owns a small punk venue with some old coworkers of his that were the ones that got him into music
26: flowers
Spider lily is one for sure, maybe blue stargazer. Also maybe peony in burgundy.
27: associated animal
So way back when Alex used to have an association with wolves and he still does to a minor degree. Tho these days he’s all in on association with crows. Move over nocturnal because this boy loves his crow.
He has a crow familiar named Constance that he absolutely adores.
Also just birds in general his oldest pet and companion is a pheonix, he loves all corvids and has a fondness for everything from hummingbird to vulture

Album Review: 10,000 Maniacs - MTV Unplugged (Expanded Edition)
Though she kind of screwed her bandmates, Natalie Merchant gave 10,000 Maniacs the best consolation prize they’ve could’ve hoped for.
What turned out to be Merchant’s final gig found the Maniacs - augmented with strings, woodwinds, extra singers, guitars, banjo, mandolin and keys - playing “MTV Unplugged” on April 21, 1993. And though their singer was gone by the time it was released, the recording gave the group its most-successful album, a huge hit in the Bruce Springsteen-cum-Patti Smith cover “Because the Night” and what are to many the definitive versions of such originals as “These are Days,” “Candy Everybody Wants,” “Like the Weather” and others.
Twenty-one years down the line, MTV Unplugged (Expanded Edition) revisits the the LP and tacks on three Merchant-David Byrne duets left off the original release.
And while they don’t entirely fit with Unplugged’s sonic motif, the searching agnosticism of Iris DeMent’s “Let the Mystery Be,” Jimmie Dale Gilmore’s country-rock shuffle “Dallas” and Dolly Patron’s “Jolene,” on which Byrne mostly lays out after singing co-leads on the preceding tracks, come at the right time.
And with that, 10,000 Maniacs’ masterpiece is slightly more masterful.

Le Basque (arr. for 2 recorders and harpsichord): i heard this a billion year ago on the radio (my wakeup radio station on my alarm clock is classical) and i finally got around to saving a link for it. very bouncy very cute. makes me think of rabbits running in circles a la beatrix potter.
EDIT TO ADD: i also finally listened to beyonce 'cowboy carter'!! i know im late! it's good i like it! not a revolutionary opinion! obsessed with her jolene cover! that's all!
reading: big one this week! i FINISHED 'the left hand of darkness'! i really liked it! still marinating on the themes etc. i started 'the dispossessed', also by le guin, and am devouring that as well. there's some stuff in there that oof ough. existential. but i'm liking it so far, i'm around chapter 5 right now. physicists!
fanfic: imposter syndrome (mikkeneko): i might have already linked it but i can't be assed to go back through a few weeks of tuesdaypost to see if i already have. so if i did, here it is again. really charming premise, gut-punch of an ending, cool twist on the doppelganger setup from dungeon meshi with svsss.
the articles, some of which were actually read a while ago but i forgot to link and am now cleaning out my phone tabs: how will the golden age of 'making it worse' end? (david roth) new canada policy lets indigenous people reclaim their names (emma bowman) what happens to the stay-at-home girlfriend after a breakup? (erika w smith) unschooling is the parenting trend that's pissing everyone off (ej dickson) in defense of 'coffee badging' (monica torres): if i had a job that was all zoom calls i would literally go insane over being made to go into an office to take zoom calls. fuck that what my mother's wardrobe taught me about style and grief after she died: thinking a lot about all my dad's shit will semen destroy your shower drain? granny davis' geocaching page: found when i was looking at some reviews for caches near my apartment. im kind of obsessed with her. she also has a facebook page called 'granny's geo page' if you don't have a geocaching account. literally she is everything to me. she has found So Many fucking geocaches good god. wedding trivia questions: used as reference to create some wedding trivia for a bridal shower! similarly, the wikipedia page for morganatic marriages my fight with a sidewalk robot (emily ackerman): my school has these. hate them. my boyfriend just linked this to me and im obsessed, laser etched paperweights, i am not a huge paperweight girlie but wowwww prettyyyyy. the electron orbitals!!!! i had a search open for "anti mega #1 cray street". i have no idea what this is.
special edition: the link dump from my trip to the uk last month! some very related to the trip itself, a few random extras! top of the poops, an architectural firm bc i saw a sign with their logo and thought it was cool but now i can't find their logo, waring ader space invaders because i saw someone's shirt with the little space invader guys and was like ooh the tate museum joel meyerowitz (and another page about him) wikipedia on gratin dauphinois, wikipedia page on doncaster for some reason i did not go there list of artworks at the national portrait gallery of scotland wikipedia page on the jacobite uprising of 1745 washi tape that would match the edinburgh one i bought there, tintin in the land of the soviets postcard that i didnt end up getting wikipedia for a quaich which is a traditional scottish bowl, a wiki page on the geology of arthur's seat, a book in the scottish national galleries that i thought about purchasing but didn't want to try and fit in my luggage (she is definitely one of my new favorite artists though) wikipedia page on lauryn hill for some reason not sure how i got there, wikipedia page on salome halpir this post was on tumblr and i tried to find the item in the victoria and albert museum but it was sadly not on display, one of the audio guides i listened to a bit of in the v & a, a scarf i almost bought in the v & a a google search for the fabric library at harrods because my mom mentioned that it existed but i could not find it search for blinq (apparently spelled that way) blossoms because of a cocktail my brother's friend ordered that had one as a garnish wikipedia page on the mechanical explanations of gravitation
watching: from wool to cloth using a historical weaving technique (jillian eve): oughhh colors
emma in the moment/made in the moment: a deep dive into the chunky boy crochet lore the crochet stardew valley pillow drama untangling the shocking tale of mystical creations yarn i tried red heart's new all in one granny square yarn
some crochet tips videos from play hooky with me
tiffanyferg: 'personal style' discourse hgtv is a gentrification masterclass cleantok villains and the morality of messiness
youtube
playing: a teeny bit of wizard101
making: fallow. well i guess i drew on some cards for my friend's bridal shower. but generally fallow.
eating: made deb smittenkitchen's delicious carrot cake recipe. mine was a little ugly but really really delicious. i bought a bag of preshredded carrots and just sort of roughly chopped em up a little smaller because i couldn't be assed to grate them. i also couldn't be assed to trim the cakes, i did two smaller round pans and stacked them up but because i didn't trim them they were a little wibbly. oh well.
i'm going to bake another cake for my brother's birthday next weekend and i'm between her chocolate olive oil cake (looks really easy) and bittersweet chocolate and pear cake (a little more involved but highly recommended by bee)
misc: my mom wanted to take a sailing class but didn't want to do it alone so she offered to pay for me to come. sure, said i! i have never sailed! i like learning new skills! reader, it is So Fucking Hot Outside. the wind died and we had to get towed back to shore. the sun was so strong. there are so many ropes with all different names and they all Do Something. sunday's class got cancelled/rescheduled because the weather was That Bad (hot as fuck and no wind) so we're doing it probably friday instead (and saturday. and sunday. it's two weekends in a row of both days at 9am yayyyyy) but i just hope the weather is. better.

𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐄 𝐌𝐂𝐆𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐍 — ❝All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach.

── 𝔂𝓸𝓾'𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓭 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓲 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓵 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓲𝓷 𝓶𝔂 𝓫𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓭.
❂ jolene mcgowan was a metalsmith, by trade, she created beautiful jewellery by smelting gold and silver, set with precious stones and shards of sea glass she collected near her home in the coastal town of cherryfield, maine. she crafted beautiful blooms with leaves which would never wilt, never die, blew glass, she mended timepieces, clocks and pocket watches with deft and reverent hands. these are the soft calloused palms that hephaestus fell hopelessly into; warm and welcoming and good-humoured.
❂ 1943 dawned, rough and unkind as she fought with her family to protect the identity of the father of her baby, born out of wedlock in a small town. the little boy would never make it over the brow of the hill in long island, halfway through massachusetts he falls.
❂ she didn't learn the lesson, though she was stripped of some of the light that drew the god to her in the first place, they reunited yet again and another child was to be born from the glint in their eyes.
❂ red hair and green eyes like her mother, billie is full of fight from the minute she stretches her mouth open and begins to scream, her mother joking that she always had something to say ever since.
❂ wilhelmina, a mouthful for such a small child and even harder to spell, shortened to mina and then through protest changed to will, then to billie.
❂ billie watched her mother hollow out before her very eyes, harden herself to the inevitability of her daughter's demise. if jolene drew back far enough, fast enough, she wouldn't be hurt when the gods didn't favour her offspring once again. wilhelmina yearned for attention, to feel that warmth fall over her once more but instead, she struck out, becoming a problem.
❂ this rejection seared her edges, though the fall from her mother's graces wasn't as far or as fast as her father's fall from olympus, she vowed to herself to always stand up for what she believed in, no matter the personal cost. cowards irk her, though of course, the greek doesn't fall far from the tree, she can be a hypocrite.
❂ billie was a constant flight risk, disappearing for days at a time on a whim but the concern their family felt ebbed, even when they started to see things, when inexplicable things began happening to them.
❂ it took a year and a half to make it to camp half blood, billie never running with crowds long enough for satyrs to catch hold of her. disappearing like smoke between their fingers. billie has some pretty extensive scarring over most of her body from her years on the run but spite is a powerful motivator, the fire she draws from within helped her survive and still does. (might have some collateral damage from this use of flame, she tries not to think about it.)
❂ strode into camp with their head held high, and attacked every part of training with unwavering tenacity no matter how many times they were knocked down. not the most naturally skilled fighter but she makes up for it in spades with ferocity, dogged relentlessness and sheer power. billie never knows when to stay down.
❂ is often caught intercepting tourists and mortals by yelling extremely creative obscenities and insults at them, it gets them to leave, at least she stopped draping her hair over her face and running at them screaming in tongues when chiron asked nicely.
❂ the chip on billie's shoulder is big, anyone who knows her can see it but she's filled in the cracks with liquid gold and moves with the hurt. her word is her bond and though trickery is almost a sure shot, she'll never let you forget that you're a liar and you'll be paying until your final breath. billie hates bullies.
❂ an excellent craftsman and smith, billie will usually help anyone with the forges if they ask, for several years refused to partake in her cabin and father's vocation out of pettiness but now loves the way it takes her out of her head to bear something new into the world.
❂ pinball champion, has never worn a matching pair of socks in her life, feeds the raccoons around camp, used to be a state champion gymnast, will fire-eat and fire dance for special occasions like her friends' birthdays, can remember all the lyrics to any song she hears and hoards music like gold, spends a ridiculous amount of time and money on taking polaroids and buying film, will burn your monopoly board, drums on every nearby surface at all times, accidentally burns things to a crisp when she sneezes, can and will nap absolutely anywhere it's kind of ridiculous.
WANTED CONNECTIONS — *
i'm gonna come back to this because my brain is soup.
