My thoughts on JJBA OVER HEAVEN

So first of all -

it seems my JJBA binge is not over yet, I am still on the desert island and instead of their being water sources large enough to get waterboarded in like last time, I am instead finding small refreshing puddles.

I read the novel and- (spoilers under cut)

although it might be dubiously canon, I like it a lot that I think it should be considered so, and in my mind overrides any inconsistencies that the anime/manga may bring up. The timeline seems fucked either way you look at it, fittingly for this story I guess

I liked how it showed the evolution of his idea of ‘heaven’ and how it slowly became what Pucci defined it as. I like how it gives depth without straying from Dio’s insane villainy. and the mommy issues were certainly something as well It actually made me appreciate part 1

I have realised this while I was still watching the anime, but the novel confirms it; all the villains either represent a part of Dio, the big bad

Kars - Dio’s desire to constantly transcend his current state, humanity and whatnot, keep moving up the power scale

Kira - Dio’s idea that all humans live for ‘peace of mind’, as he puts it for himself- ‘preparedness’, knowing that the future will be fine

Diavolo - Dio’s resolve to move only forward, only towards the future

I do love how for the two Stand users, their Stands complement their motives, Kira creating time loops to ensure nothing bad happens to him, and Diavolo ‘skipping time’ to move into and foresee the future. Kira is more ‘stuck in the past’ and Diavolo is heading for the future

Dio is in the present, he merely stops time for a few seconds. It sets up the time manipulation premise in the simplest way and also gives him the further mindfuckery he needs to arrive at his conclusion

And then Pucci, the final villain, is Dio’s resolve to get to ‘heaven’, the culmination of the mindfuckery- their conclusion of it being that the definition of ‘heaven’ is obtaining peace by knowing all of the future and all of fate, and living it out in preparedness.

Their Stands are also opposite of one another, Dio stops time for a brief moment and Pucci accelerates it for all of eternity. Pucci is the kind of fucking guy to spoil the entire movie before watching it

I do love how they define fate as ‘gravity between people', and connect that to the theory of relativity (i’m always a sucker for this kind of shit) combining scientific theory with ideas of fate through a religious character is also just a cherry on top, I love it

THAT and how his Stand Whitesnake, whose powers are to extract ‘souls’ (or so to speak), is covered in the abbreviation of DNA compounds. Also fun fact whitesnake’s voice is based off of patrick star from spongebob

Overall, it was interesting to read how Dio became obsessed with the concept of fate, Ironically, were JJBA to be written with more foresight (preparedness even), then maybe Dio’s thoughts could’ve been more implemented into the story. Don’t get me wrong, he should still be his insane-cartoonishly-evil self at the same time, I love him for that. However, this novel was not written by the OG author, so who knows how canon it even is.

Another thing of note: Dio and Pucci seem to arrive at their idea of ‘heaven’ independently (you could argue Dio kind of began it by suggesting the idea of ‘gravity’ to him), but it was Pucci’s circumstances that ultimately led to it. Dio, at least for a few pages, believes that what one is born into decides everything. And they were born into vastly different situations. Dio talks a lot about his hate of nobles and ‘inheritors’ and hated both his biological and adoptive family.

Pucci is from an influential wealthy family and loved them so. Dio’s sibling was a miscarriage and Pucci’s presumed-dead-twin was actually alive. But both lived circumstances that arrived to a shared idea of ‘heaven’. Dio knows at least the deaths in Pucci’s life, I wonder if he knows his background and if knowing it would challenge or confirm his idea of fate.

I can’t help but wonder how Pucci felt reading the diary through Jotaro’s memories. Also wonder if Pucci saw how Dio died through none other than Jotaro’s memories as well.

Also i don’t know why, this is probably not what is implied cuz it wouldn’t fit characterwise(unless?) but……… did Pucci take Dio’s memory of showing him The World????? Why is it written this way and if so then adhsagdah??

Anyways if you ask me if i’m team ‘ora-ora’ or team ‘muda-muda’ its the latter for me baby

Pen sketches I made (from memory) during downtime at the register and just when I had a moment outside of work in general.

Plus some pencils ones.

So for my deerniverse AU thing I specifically want to make like fantasy-esque outfits for Part 5 characters. I originally wanted full on nudity and to rely on fur patterning for differentiation but clothes design is a huge part of what makes JJBA unique and I can’t just take that away. Also fur patterning is not flexible like changing clothes. So I’m trying to go for like… half clothed? Like tribal inspired I guess, not too sure. Was thinking of doing chains for Mista’s top without actually giving him fabric for that diamond pattern he has on his sweater. No fabric or like a mostly transparent shear. His hat is more like a veil but that actually does have fabric tho. Included gems cause in the manga he has like circles in his diamond print thing. I don’t want to give him pants cause then you can’t see his legs are fully striped. Will figure out bottom half sometime. I have no idea what to for Fugo yet.

I watched all of JJBA

My thoughts on it, no major spoilers:

FIRST OF ALL: If I were to recommend it to someone, I would say watch the parts in the order of: 3, 1, 2 (although 2 is largely irrelevant), 4, 5, 6. By all logic, I should hate this anime. It goes almost completely against my taste in fiction.

Watching this anime is like getting waterboarded, occasionally a genuinely good moment will come where I am allowed to take a breath, but before i even register it some bullshit happens and I am dunked back in.

However, while getting waterboarded, I’m in a desert, i see the fucking stardust crusaders in the back, this is the only water source so while i cant breathe i am glad to have access to it.

Then finally, a particular moment comes, and i start drinking all the water, until theres nothing left and i finally breathe, and that particular moment is when father Pucci appears on screen, an essay on why he’s the best character coming hopefully never.

Watching this is like being forced to bash my head against a wall at gunpoint, and then being happy that my blood made a cool pattern on the wall. None of the characters act like real people. Time and space does not exist. Inconsistencies are everywhere.

Set ups and no pay off. Pay offs withOUT setups?? The characters describe their every action so honestly you could watch this with forks in your eyes and still know whats happening, except you won’t know from the intense mindfuckery that takes place.

But overall I had a great time. Amazing soundtrack, loved the OPs, I love the char designs and I love art that isn’t afraid to be weird and unapologetic in its weirdness, it’s insanely creative and the humour can be great, some moments genuinely had me hyped and my eyes wide

I loved how in a lot of episodes it focuses more on the antags, making you root for them (though thats often cuz the protags are annoying-)

My fav part is absolutely Stone Ocean, it has the best protag and antag, best visuals, side characters that I actually gave a shit about unlike most side chars in the prev seasons. Still rooted for the antag though.

My fav Jojo is Jolyne, second is Giorno (but the version of him in my head anyway cuz he had an amazing set up but shitass payoff in my opinion)

Fav side chars are Rohan, Anasui, F.F., Ermes, Bucciarati was alright I guess, I like Trish’s design, Polnareff was entertaining.

Fav villain is hands down Father Pucci, he’s the reason I watched this entire thing, the character who apPEARS IN THE VERY FINAL FUCKING PAR- Dio close behind. Kira was fun as well.

The now gathered Joestars looked around themselves, their surroundings having changed as they now stood within a realm unfamiliar. Jotaro clenched his fists, albeit keeping them hidden in his pockets. "This aura... it can't be- Ah!"

His attention was diverted by the sound of footsteps coming closer, a menacing aura enveloping the space they were now gathered within. "The Holy Corpse repels all evil. However, at the same time! It also seeks its other parts. The parts you wield... They reacted to the spine I possess, and drew you into this main world..."

"Yare yare, daze..." Jotaro let a sigh slip through. "I didn't want to believe it, but there's no doubting what I'm seeing now... Dio!!"

Johnny gritted his teeth. "If I defeat him, Gyro will come back!" He thought to himself before having Slow Dancer rear back and charge at the vampiric man. "Tusk Act 4!!" With that, he aimed and fired.

"So that's the energy that put Valentine in checkmate..." Dio observed, summoning his own stand to block the attack outright before charging at the man with a smirk.

"Gold Experience Requiem!!" Giorno burst forth, summoning the evolved form of his stand to attack. "You'll never reach reality!!" Though this attack would normally be undeflected, Giorno's eyes widened when he saw his stand's own fist be repelled by the man.

"Star Platinum!!" Jotaro then charged forth, his own stand appearing beside him as it landed a blow directly into the side of Dio's skull.

The vampire only laughed, momentarily getting a kick out of the sheer audacity that these mortals had before using The World to send them flying with a whirl of muda-mudas.

Speedwagon stood astonish. "Waahhh! Jotaro! Everybody!! They've all been beaten!!"

"What... What happened?" Giorno questioned, "Why didn't Requiem work!?"

Johnny sat meekly, his horse downed. "He took a direct hit from Tusk Act 4! Why didn't anything happen!?"

"I know I felt Star Platinum smash his skull in..." Jotaro stated, glaring at his enemy. "This power is something completely different from vampiric regeneration or The World's ability to stop time..."

"I was told that the Joestars had defeated me here, in this main world..." Dio stated with a smirk. "But if those Stands are all you've got, I don't see how!!"

Suddenly a low, female chuckle could be heard as a woman floated down beside the man, her appearance mirroring his own. "That is because they don't know of the Ascension, my darling~"

"Ohoho...~" Dio chuckled, leaning in as the woman pet at his cheek. "That is quite true now, isn't it?"

Giorno's eyes widened. "M-Mother?!"

The woman turned her gaze to the boy, her smirk alluding to something dark. "Perhaps, but not from this world. It pains me to know you've sided with such a team, GioGio." Her voice was coy, with a sinister playfulness to it.

A pulsating noise errupted within the void in which everyone stood. Those holding a piece of the Holy Corpse looked down, realizing that the sensation was coming from each and every one of them. They all watched in awe as they began to float, making their way over to Dio who was now holding his own Corpse Part high into the air.

"The Corpse Parts gravitate towards one another!!" He rejoiced. "The parts you gathered pulled the spine to you along with I, Dio!! And now, it is the spine's turn to pull all your Corpse Parts to me!!"

As the many parts converged into one another, an even darker aura emerged. Both Dio and Adelaide both grinned, with her beloved cackling in response.

"Uwaaah~" Adelaide cooed. "Oh my, Joestars~!! You have aboslutely no idea how WONDERFUL this feels~!!!"

Dio let out a final cackled beside her. "Now, bow down before our reality!!!" As the words left his lips, a blackened mist seeped from both him and his queen.

"This is bad!!" Josuk8 stated. "We can't let that mist touch us!!"

Suddenly, a look of confusion came across Dio's face. "Hm...? I'm one part short?"

Jotaro stood, pulling the last corpse part from inside his coat. As the teen stared down at it, he and the rest of his group vanished.

"Tch..." Dio huffed. "Of course... Jotaro Kujo... It seems I must defeat him in this world, as well..."

Adelaide rested her cheek against the vampire's shoulder, her halo glowing softly. "Mn... you've done it once before, my love. Surely you can do it again. I will assist in any way that I can."

The vampire smirked, though he never took his eyes from where the Joestars once stood. "Hmph... it could be dangerous, my little rose."

"Danger?" Adelaide piped up, grinning. "I laugh in the face of danger. Ha-ha, ha-ha!"

Dio huffed in amusement. "Enyaba." He waited momentarily as the old hag appeared. "Summon my pawns. The Corpse Parts gravitate towards one another... Give them the Holy Corpse parts and have them chase after Jotaro and the others."

"As you command." With that, the hag disappeared once more.

Addelaide ran her finger along Dio's bicep. "The Corpse Part that Jotaro has must be the Joestars' last hope..."

Dio grimaced. "I'll rip that hope from them and plunge them into the depths of despair... Then at last, I will erase them from this main world!! With my Stand: The World Over Heaven... hmhm."
