Joining the Dark Brotherhood

Before Going to Riften to kill Grelod the kind, I decided to kill Grelod before talking to Arentino to save time travelling, I completed the quest required to get Faendal as a follower and subsequently as farm steward. I choose to talk to Sven first and then tell Camilla Valerius the truth (this was because I knew Sven would be in the inn and would be easier to find). Arriving at the farm I was approached by the courier with a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath that upon being read started the miscellaneous quest to speak to him

I then travelled to Riften and sold excess gear and potions made from crops and used the money to buy the necessary materials to upgrade the farm outside before entering Riften Orphanage. Grelod was easy to kill as ever the only challenge was managing not to be detected and to sneak kill her for exp. Then I travelled to Windhelm using the cart at Riften stables. Little else can be said about the next part as the lock into Arentino's house was novice and all that I needed to do was talk to him. Once that was done I travelled to the farm and entered before sleeping for 24 hours to get the letter from the Dark Brotherhood.

This waiting allowed enough time for the crops to regrow and so I harvested them and made more potions leading to leveling up some more and a lot more gold once I sold them all. In order to be kidnapped by Astrid and join the Dark Brotherhood I went to sleep in our characters bed at the farm. This gave me the rather amusing image of Astrid breaking in to our bedroom only to be confronted by all of our pets who reside in the top floor. Upon waking up I killed all three hostages (sorry I didn't make a poll for this I forgot until I was actually in the shack). Upon killing them I was offered to join the Dark Brotherhood and proceeded to make my way to the Sanctuary where I received the Dark Brotherhood armour and grabbed the set of robes by Astrid. Ending the quest and having joined the Dark Brotherhood

While I enjoy the Southern Raiders tremendously as an episode, particularly loving the focus on Katara and her trauma, I always hated that at the core, it was essentially a fetchquest for Zuko to "gain Katara's allegiance."

Look, there's characters organically bonding over one character's trauma. That's not happening here. This is a clumsy attempt at tying up a loose end and continuing the pattern of Zuko's life changing fieldtrips with Sokka and Aang.

Aang and Sokka's "field trip destinatons" come up rather organically, for Aang it's the necessity of learning firebending and for Sokka, it was a very fresh, even current worry for his father's safety.

While Katara and Zuko's bonding (if you can even call it that, they don't really bond, just go on a murder road trip and barely speak lol) in Southern Raiders feels very... forced.

As much as I love the Southern Raiders, I think Zuko and Katara's relationship was done dirty in it. Their relationship is fascinating because they're very similar people, pushed apart by a ton of animosity and age old hurt.

And then all this is just resolved as if someone were checking a box off a list.

Essentially Zuko in the Southern Raiders episode is me in Skyrim playing through a fetch quest so I can unlock a follower lol

Also if we're being honest the episode kinda made Zuko super unlikeable with the whole "digging up a girls tragic backstory from her brother in order to use it to get her to like you" and the dismissive shitty comment about Aang's culture.

Some notes:

- The shrouded armor is what she wears the most often now though when she got out of prison (at the start of the game, but not the start of her story) she went to the arena to pick herself back up and she was Not a Fan of the armor they made them wear. She also ended up taking the moniker “Shadowstep” onto herself after she gained champion hood.

- Saffr’ia has only sobbed her heart out a few times in her life and being made to kill her found family in the dark brotherhood was certainly one of them. She had grown to really love them and found a kinship and appreciation that she felt she lost near the tail end of her time at the Arcane University

- No shame I pair her with Martin but it is a doomed love that falls apart so soon after rekindling because the universe is unkind sometimes 😔 after so long apart and having had such different and eventful lives, they finally have a sit down to open up to one another.

Sonic Chronicles is always going to be one of my Sonic games. Like, none of the other narratives have gripped me as much as this game did. You get to go on an epic space adventure?! And there's this cool girl called Shade? And the dialogue is really funny? And Shadow is in this and written really well?! Sign me up!

i actually don't mind the bethesda open world video game 'this faction is Evil, there's only one route with them, and it's to do evil things. your only other alternative is to kill everyone in the group without engaging with their requests. this action would obviously ensure you don't actually get to experience the questline content as written, but is a roleplay choice you can make in order to complete the quest on a Good-aligned character' thing but it is deeply strange they decided to do that with a whole paid DLC in fallout 4. like you either play along and do cruel things with them or set foot in the expac area, kill everyone, and go home. am i nuts. am i just sorrowful because i thought the location was a really whimsical place to have a fallout DLC. an abandoned theme park.

I can't remember what we did in falkreath, but we're heading to Dawnstar finally.

Got a decent way past whiterun before running into some sort of a jester? Yelling of his wagon's broken wheel and his dead mother's corpse.

It's far too late to bother the farmers, so we camp here for the night.

Morning comes, and the farmer's cattle was attacked by wolves. We've asked the farmer for his assistance with the jester, who paid us handsomely. We continue onwards north, to Dawnstar.

the mindset of my current hero of kvatch is so fucked up i love it. he immediately joined the dark brotherhood weeks after getting out of prison, did all his contracts, became listener yadda yadda now he's an assassin bored out of his mind with the job, since he doesn't carry out contracts any longer. so he goes looking for other work, all the while amassing wealth via his payments as listener & his pirate band based just outside anvil. he joins the fighters guild not for the money, but out of pure boredom. he doesn't have any thirst for death or blood, he just needs a strict code of interesting tasks to complete, and the brotherhood happened to be where he found himself first up so that's what he's come to expect. the thieves guild could have offered him something, but they missed the chance and he finds the idea quite dull now. even with all the necessary skills to be a great thief (sneak, illusion, security). he's willing to join the mages guild to further hone his magic, but the busy work given to initiates turns him off the idea of pursuing full membership. his only loyalty is to his clan members in the brotherhood.
