277° Resenha do Dia 2021 Escafandro Apresenta: O Vampiro - História Completa . . . #Coleção #Colecionador #Quadrinhos #Escafandro #Vampiro #LauroFerreira #UltimatoDoBacon #EditoraUb #Terror #JohnWilliamPolidori #Comic #Leitura #Review #Resenha #Hqs https://www.instagram.com/p/CWnPzC-LjBg/?utm_medium=tumblr

12th May 1828, birth of English Pre-Raphaelite founder, poet and painter Gabriel Dante Rossetti, nephew of John William Polidori, author of the first modern Vampire story, ‘The Vampyre’, published in 1819, and brother to poet Christina Rossetti, and writer and critic William Michael Rossetti. In 1848 Gabriel Dante Rossetti, alongside his brother and artists William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which attempted to revolutionize English art through a return to medieval aesthetics and symbolism. In 1850, Rossetti met Elizabeth Siddal, who would become over the next decade his muse, model and lover. In 1862 she died possibly by suicide of an overdose of laudanum. Grief stricken Rossetti buried all of his poetry with her at her grave in Highgate cemetery. Later digging them up, he descended into depression and addiction, dying in 1872. In 1894, Rosetti’s sister Christina died, and was also buried at Highgate. Highgate Cemetery was opened in 1839, to replace the medieval practice of burials in small parish churches. With the population of London more than doubling during the late 18th and early 19th century, this had led to a dangerous overcrowding of burials. Stories from prior to the cemeteries opening, talk of mourners witnessing their loved ones graves being dug, whereupon another was discovered, if the grave was within five, the remains were stomped into the ground to provide space for a new burial on top. Older burials were removed and cast aside to allow space, with coffins burned for firewood. This overcrowding had led parish churches to simply pile the dead into their church basements, (continued in the comments) #preraphaelite #preraphelites #rosetti #highgatecemetery #highgatecemetary #gothicvictorian #victoriangothic #victoriangothicstyle #vampirefiction #vampireaesthetic #vampireart #gothicfiction #johnwilliampolidori #thevampyre #horrorfiction #regencygothic #gothichistory #gabrieldanterossetti #victorianhistory #victorian #gothiccemetery #maryshelley #maryshelleyfrankenstein #michaelfaraday #gothictales #19thcenturyhistory #gothicillustration #historicalillustration #highgatevampire #vampirehistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CO0wAikH6nP/?igshid=1c3sb9ut5imth

5th December 1791, death of the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of 35, resulting in rumours that he was poisoned by his rival Antonio Salieri that were published in a Berlin newspaper. These rumours were false, and in fact Mozart and Salieri were mutually respectful of one another; with Salieri teaching Mozart's younger son Franz Xaver Mozart. To this day there is no actual known cause of death, with historians and researchers suggesting scores of medical theories. On the same day in 1830, Hector Berlioz' ‘Symphonique Fantastique’ premieres in Paris; telling the story of an artist gifted with a lively imagination who has poisoned himself with opium in the depths of despair and hopelessness. Further, on the same day and year, the English poet Christina Rossetti, author of Goblin Market is born. Her brother the Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rosetti ironically died in a manner straight out of Belioz’s work, through drug addiction to chloral hydrate; after suffering the grief of the death of his wife Elizabeth Siddal by opium addiction. Their uncle, the author of ‘The Vampyre’ John William Polidori, can also be seen to follow this pattern after he killed himself by cyanide in 1821. Mozart, Berlioz, Rosetti, and Polidori were all versed in the themes of the gothic and supernatural, begun in the 18th century, and these themes can be seen in Mozart's Fantasias in C minor, Berlioz' "Symphonique Fantastique", Rossetti’s, ‘Goblin Market’, and of course Polidori in ‘The Vampyre’, the first modern Vampire story. 13th November 1785, birth of Lady Caroline Lamb, best known as the author of Glenarvon, and for her affair with Lord Byron in 1812, which resulted in her fall and ostracized her from society. After Byron ended the affair, she took her revenge on him by writing the novel in 1816. In the story the character Glenarvon corrupts the innocent young bride Calantha (Caroline herself) leading to their mutual ruin and death. In the book Byron is characterized as the rakish Lord Ruthven, the same name of the character used by John William Polidori in his story ‘The Vampyre’, published anonymously and attributed to Byron in 1819. Polidori, alongside Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, and her sister in law Claire Clairemont; were part of the ghost story competition held at the Villa Diodati, during the year without a summer in 1816. Alongside Polidori’s story, Mary Shelley’s story, would be published in 1818 as Frankenstein. Lamb is attributed to the famous epitaph when she described Byron as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know." 13th November 1792, birth of Edward John Trelawny, English sailor, traveler, author and friend to Romantic poets Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and writer Mary Shelley, and her half sister Claire Clairmont. Trelawney arranged the funerals for both Percy Shelley in 1822, and Byron’s in 1824. Legend says that as Percy Shelley’s body was being cremated Trelawney reached into the fire and rescued Shelley’s heart before it burned. He then gave it to Mary, who kept it with her for 30 years until it was buried with their sun Percy Florence Shelley in 1889. Outliving all of the Romantic generation he retired to the countryside and wrote Records of Shelley, Byron, and the Author in 1878. 7th September 1795, birth of the English writer and physician John William Polidori author of the first modern Vampire story ‘The Vampyre’, published without his permission, and attributed to Lord Byron in the April 1819 issue of New Monthly Magazine. Polidori had travelled with Byron across Europe during 1816, and stayed at the Villa Diodati near Lake Geneva in Switzerland during that summer, known as the ‘year without a summer’. Visiting Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, and her half sister Claire Clairemont, spent the time with Byron and Polidori indoors due to the rain and cold, reading a collection of German Gothic horror stories called ‘Fantasmagoriana’, in response they came up with a contest of writing their own ghost stories. Out of this contest was born ‘The Vampyre’, and also Mary Shelley’s story, which was the first draft of what would be published in 1818 as Frankenstein. Lord Byron’s and Percy Shelley stories have been lost to history. Polidori was the uncle to English Pre-Raphaelite founder, poet and painter Gabriel Dante Rossetti, poet Christina Rossetti, and writer and critic William Michael Rossetti. In 1848 Gabriel Dante Rossetti, alongside his brother and artists William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which attempted to revolutionize English art through a return to medieval aesthetics and symbolism themes which were prevalent in the gothic fantasmagorie tradition, from Horace Walpole to Anne Radcliffe, as well as appearing in the geographic settings in both ‘The Vampyre’, and ‘Frankenstein’.
