I had a midnight crew dream the other day, which is unusual for me, not only because it's very rare for me to dream about blorbos but also because there's no recency bias involved. The most interesting part is that it featured a never before seen OC which I guess I'm turning real now. I don't fuck around with dream OCs because last time I had one of those it was Honey and he is my darlingest boy
Anyway. This guy is called John Infantry. He's a lieutenant for the Midnight Crew. He's a prospitian pawn of the infantry subcaste (i have an extensive caste system headcanon for carapacians that i've shared with a lot of people before but couldn't post the fic i wrote about it because idk enough CSS to make it the way I want), and he's a veteran of the pre-exile race war. He's highly competent with firearms of most types, and he's thin and tall within the eugenic variation allowed of the clones pre-exile.
In Midnight City he acted as a mercenary for the different groups, including acting for the Felt and the Crew at different times, until the Crew hired him full time; he was originally under Slick's arm of the crew's organization (which is another extensive headcanon i have that I might talk about later) but over time they started valuing his work so much he ended up being a lieutenant for all 4 of them because his expertise can be utilized by all of them really well. JI is the guy they call when they need something to be done fast, clean and efficiently.
John Infantry wears a linen shirt, suspenders and slacks, a brown waistcoat with a watch chain and a newsboy cap. His weapon of choice, even though he's proficient with most, is a sawed off double barrel shotgun, and if you're really blind, you could almost mistake him for Itchy at a distance, in terms of silhouette and body type
I'm not sure what's going on but I quite like this guy. If anyone's interested I might write up more stuff about my intermission headcanons and ocs. There's around 4 years of them so we'd probably have a better result if we go by topic/character as opposed to just "tell me everything"
#mafa talks#homestuck intermission#homestuck oc#john infantry#ok fine whatever. hyperfixation go brr

Learned something new about Janovec today. It's actually really shocking and sad, ngl. For those who don't recognize the name; John Janovec was played by Tom Hardy in the BoB series.
(And if you still don't know him, this guy below)
Annnddd for all you lovely people who can't read that very clearly (I dont blame you it's a shitty picture,) I wrote it out;
"One night Sgt. Robert Marsh was driving Pvt. John Janovec back from a roadblock by a side road. Janovec was leaning on the unreliable door of a German truck. They hit a log. He lost his balance, fell, and hit his head on the pavement. Marsh rushed him to the regimental aid station in Zell am See, but he died on the way of a fractured skull."

Trapuzzano rushed up to us when we came back in the hotel. “Jesus, where’ve you been, Web?” he asked excitedly. “We’ve been looking all over for you.” “Went for a walk. What’s wrong?” I could tell that something terrible had happened. “Janovec’s hurt bad. Marsh took him to the aid station in Zell am See. He fell out of the truck and hit his head on a log.” “Oh my God. Where’d you say he was?” “Regimental aid station.” “I’m going there. Tell Hale; he’ll understand.” I ran outside and headed for the roadblock at a fast jog. The twilight air was crisp and cooling fast. Smiling at the wonderful smells of the open country—the grass, the hay, the wood fires, a touch of pine—I unbuttoned my fatigue jacket and swung my arms back and forth in long arcs. There was a rifle inspection for guard in half an hour, but that could wait. I was the sergeant of the guard for the next relief, but that could wait too. Janovec, the only person I had been close to in Holland and had known well since then, was badly hurt. He and I shared a negative attitude toward the Army, and when I had been made an acting squad leader in Marsh’s absence, he had been the most cooperative man in the squad. With encouragement and understanding, he had been a good soldier. In fact, he was the one man in the squad, other than Marsh, that I could really count on. I did not want to lose him as a friend or a soldier. I jogged through the intersection and began to walk toward Zell, thumbing the few vehicles that passed. Finally a G.I. truck stopped and gave me a lift into town. The regimental medics occupied a large private home on the highway in the northern outskirts. Since the door was open, I walked in and looked for someone to help me. Major Kent, the chief medical officer, glanced up from his chair in a room that opened in the front hall. “Can I help you?” he inquired, coming out. “Yessir,” I said, smiling at him. I had always admired him for his work on the jumpfields and in combat and had never regarded him as an officer but as a doctor and friend of all men regardless of rank. “I’m looking for a friend of mine who got hurt in an accident. His name’s Janovec.”
“Oh yes.” Major Kent frowned. “Are you a buddy of his?” “Yes, I am.” “Come with me.” The Major led me into the dining room, where half a dozen enlisted men were laughing and joking and playing cards around a mahogany table six feet in diameter. They looked up at us quickly, then went on with their game. Major Kent opened the pantry door, turned on the light, and stepped aside. “There he is,” he said quietly. “Oh my God.” I stared down at a long figure lying still under a G.I. blanket on the floor. “He’s dead, he’s dead.” My eyes filled with tears. Major Kent shut the door. “Didn’t they tell you?” he said. “No, they didn’t. They said he was hurt bad.” “Skull fracture. He was dead when they brought him in.” The medics in the other room burst into laughter and threw down their cards. “Almost time for the movie,” one of them said. I wiped my eyes and stared down at Janovec, at the peak where his face was and the twin peaks of his jump boots. They always throw a blanket over the face, I thought. That’s the first thing they do, if they have time, so nobody will recognize him and he’ll be just another dead soldier to his friends going by. If they don’t have a blanket, they use a field jacket, a rag, a piece of parachute, anything to hide his face. “Do you want to look at him?” the major said. “No sir, I don’t. I’ve seen enough dead men in this war to last me the rest of my life. I don’t want to look at another one, ever.” Major Kent stepped over to the sideboard, picked up a brown envelope, and handed it to me. I continued to stare at Janovec. I wanted to bend over and shake him back to life, to curse him for sleeping so soundly. “These are his personal effects.” He emptied the envelope. “A parachute scarf, a Purple Heart, his wings, the E.T.O. ribbon, the Combat Infantry Badge, and his wallet. He had no money on him.” “I’ll mail them home.” The major put everything back and handed me the envelope, then opened the door. Before I went out, I looked at Janovec again, hoping that he would move or cry out, but the blanket was still. Grant shot and Janovec dead and the war over: It made no sense. The Army was death. Let’s be done with it and go home. We should have gone home on V.E. Day, then Grant would be the same and Janovec would be alive, but no, we have to stay on and on and on. Come on, Janovec, get up, you’re the slowest, stubbornest man in the squad. We both left Rader for Marsh in Mourmelon. Stick with me; I’ll put you on a good detail. Major Kent held the door open for me, and I thanked him and walked through the medics in the dining room, hating them for their indifference. I went out the front door and up the highway.

Hamburger Hill (1987, John Irvin)
25/03/2024
Hamburger Hill is a 1987 film directed by John Irvin, inspired by the Battle of Hamburger Hill, which occurred during the Vietnam War.
Vietnam, 1969, a group of young paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division, under the command of Sergeant Frantz, is sent to the A Shau valley to try to wrest Hill 937 from the North Vietnamese, which, following the battle, will be nicknamed "Hamburger Hill" (meat grinder hill), due to the significant losses suffered by American soldiers.
Filmed between October and December 1986, Hamburger Hill is part of the Vietnam-movie genre of the period, coming out a year after Oliver Stone's Platoon and at the same time as Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.

Favourite Cat Outfits 3/10
Imitation of a Regency period British light infantry officer's uniform. It is a red coat with a stiff yellow collar and cuffs, white trim, a gold and red tasseled sash around the waist, gold epaulettes, and cream trousers. A tan cape with a fur collar hangs off his right shoulder and he wears black and brown knee-length cuffed boots. He carries a black helmet with him, embellished with a braided gold band, pale horse hair, and a metallic head badge. His hair is done in an early-Georgian style updo that towers above his head with a small ponytail at the back tied with ribbon. Designer unknown (rented costume) Costuming credit: Howard Burden & Gill Shaw

The article "Ma Deuce — The M2 .50-Caliber Machine Gun" by Will Dabbs, MD, published by The Armory Life, delves into the history and significance of the iconic M2 Browning .50-caliber machine gun, commonly known as "Ma Deuce." It highlights the weapon's origins, tracing back to American General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing's need during World War I for a machine gun capable of confronting German observation aircraft. Designed by John Moses Browning and further developed to address velocity shortcomings, the M2 became the longest-serving firearm in U.S. military history. Featuring a .50 BMG round, it offers significant firepower and versatility, finding use on tanks, ships, aircraft, and with ground forces. The article also discusses the M2's adaptations for aerial combat, its upgrade to the M2A1 model for improved performance, and its continued deployment across various military platforms, maintaining its status as a vital component of U.S. military firepower for over a century.

Billy is Super Old
Imagine if Billy has been a hero since 1939 to 40, which was went Fawcett Comics made Marvel. He’s lived through WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. He’d be a war hero (literally) like a couple times over because let’s be honest, would he just ignore it? It’d also help with his Whiz Kid gig because he started his career off of WW2 propaganda, right? If not, and that was someone’s headcanon, it’s canon in this AU. Like:
Hal Jordan: “Check out my new cologne.”
John Steward: “You stink, man.” *covers nose* “Where the hell’d you get that stuff?”
*Billy walks by*
Hal: “I don’t stink! Hey, Marvel!”
Marvel: *Looks to Hal* “Huh?”
Hal: “Smell me.”
Marvel: “Huh???” *Looks to John*
John: “Trust me, don’t. He got a new cologne from another officer at the corps. It smells like s-h-i-t (he spelled the word out).”
Marvel: *He looked between them before hesitantly leaning over. One sniff and he was physically recoiling.* “Eugh!”
John: “Told you.”
Marvel: “Smells like rotting meat.” *covers nose with the most disgusted face ever* “Smells like war.” *having flashbacks*
*John burst out into laughter at that last sentence much to Hal’s dismay.*
or
*Billy meets a Vietnam War vet.*
Granddaughter (of War Vet): *Rolls up with grandpa in wheelchair* “Captain Marvel! This is my grandpa. He served in Vietnam. I think you two might’ve worked together?”
Marvel: *looks down at the grandpa with a smile* “Oh really? What unit were you?”
Grandpa: *Has war flashbacks of Billy throwing lightning down lightning. Starts having a PTSD episode*
Marvel: “Sir! Sir, are you okay?!”
Granddaughter: “Grandpa!”
Also, Freddy would’ve been a hero since 1941, and Mary would’ve debuted 1942 cause i also think that was when they were created.
I also think there’d be a bunch of war stuff with him in it such as propaganda posters. Or like imagine he was in the 116th Infantry photo. It’d be such an interesting concept.

Imagine being the Cohort soldiers from the Erebos who were sent respond to Judith's distress call.
They land to find a dead Lyctor, run through with a Cohort infantry sword, and two new Lyctors, one freshly missing an arm. I doubt either of them were particularly coherent by that stage.
And then they go to clear the inside of the building. In the room the transmission came from, there's a dead priest and an enormous pool of blood, but no sign of captain Deuteros. Her cavalier is missing an eye and seems to have been blown open from the inside.
A room down the hall is singed and splattered with blood and chunks of human flesh. Perhaps there are fragments of grey robes, or perhaps some poor psychometrist works out that they're looking at what's left of the Master Warden of his House.
Further into the building they enter a study with the words "YOU LIED TO US" daubed across an ancient and beautiful mural. The Third House cavalier lies dead on the floor, stabbed from behind. The Master Templar of the Eighth is lying dead, his throat slit, apparently by his own cavalier's sword. And his cavalier... His eyes are gone, there is something wrong with his mouth. His wrist and neck are broken. The whole room is dripping and sticky with blood and human fat.
Searching past the kitchen, they find the morgue. There's a bowl of ashes (two people's, dead before the pilgrimage even began, confirms the by now very shaken psychometrist). One of drawers lies open and the sheet has been roughly pulled off the body inside: the utterly shattered body of the Fifth House necromancer is lying there, her blouse rolled up to her ribs, a fist sized hole in her abdomen.
Neatly lying under sheets in the other drawers there are more bodies, and the preserved severed head of the Seventh House cavalier. There is no sign of his body. The Fourth House cavalier has been impaled through the chest, shoulders and legs, precisely, like an insect for display. Her necromancer...it might be easier to list the places where he hasn't been impaled. The Fifth House cavalier is just as destroyed as his necromancer: limbs broken, body horribly mangled.
Later, they find the bloodsoaked bed with "sweet dreams" daubed on the wall in blood. If they get as far as the facility, they discover the outlines of two horribly broken bodies surrounded by necromantic diagrams drawn on the floor in pen. One unremarkable room is splattered in blood and singed with spirit fire.
The building is full of collapsed skeleton constructs, seemingly mid task, as if all struck down simultaneously, and as they explore they find more dead priests. They find no sign of the Sixth or Ninth cavaliers, or the Crown Princess of the Third, or of Captain Deuteros. And from what they've already seen, this can't feel encouraging.
It's clear that this building has witnessed necromantic horrors beyond their comprehension. What were the scions of the Houses doing, or what was being done to them? What could possibly cause what they have seen?
And I can't imagine that after seeing the truth of what happened at Canaan House, that John would have taken the risk of those soldiers revealing what they had seen. After all, he's a very careful guy.

Brb I'm thinking about what all the other Saints would think if they were still alive when Harrow joined them.
They were all relatively normal people, from before the nine houses became weird cults that are completely isolated and crystallized.
So like, normal folks with immortality and trauma. And then this little tiny wet cat shows up. She is insane. Like there's no way around it, your youngest sister is fucking nuts.
She paints her face like a skull, and when she can't do that she wears a bag on her head. Legit bag. On her head. She bleeds out of her ears every time she makes eye contact with her boring looking infantry sword, she passes out constantly, and John has a really really weird attachment with her.
"Hello little sister, I hope you find yourself well." You say, and she vomits blood then hobbles away on her weird little bone exoskeleton.
You suggest she gets rid of the sword since it seems to cause internal hemorrhaging whenever she's made aware of it. She screams and lashes out.
She can do theorems in the River. Wtf? She can't heal properly, her eyes haven't changed apparently like they're supposed to. She murdered your other sister, rather violently. Oh and John's weird attachment to her isn't enough for him to not sick Gideon on her constantly. Meanwhile you're bro Gideon is trying to murder a wet 15-year-old cat who is clearly mentally unwell.
Oh and she keeps calling your bro Ortus. Who the fuck is Ortus?
Like we see it from our girl's point of view, so we're sympathetic. But just imagine you're a saint and you have to deal with being freshly lobotomized Harrowhark the First's roommate.

Had a dream about the midnight crew being isekai'd to the human world and turning into half-mythological creatures and they'd just fuck around wreaking havoc. It was more like the real world and post-game alternia had intersected now that i think about it because other carapacians were also there and they had to pretend to be humans and also there were two other guys who were supposedly part of the crew
One of them was a prospitian bishop who was like a neurotic spy that i didn't see much and the other one was a regular pawn called John Infantry
I dont rember the plot but my dream was hyperfocusing on a timeline like it was a fanfic i was thinking of. Also Deuce and his wife got divorced somewhere in the middle (which i would never do they love each other) and he had married Snowman
The most interesting part of the dream for me is that it followed my carapace chess morphology headcanons extremely specifically
#mafa talks#homestuck intermission#some of this is like catered to my personal headcanons#im not gonna lie i'm obsessing over John Infantry. That's so compelling to me

Modern Warfare Character Ages [2019 + 22]
Preface: Just wanted to add before getting into this that this is my interpretation of the character ages based on information from the games, confirmed information, research into the military/CIA and collage/university course information. This is by no means meant to be a definite statement about character ages, I'm happy to discuss or change any of the information here within reason.
I would also like to credit @sleepyconfusedpotato and @oleworldblues posts with their own opinions on the character ages. Which helped base my own thoughts and provided some good information that they had found. You can find Sleepy's post here and Blue's here they are really good posts and they both explain their own reasons for how they perceive the main cast of modern warfare's ages.
Farah & Hadir Karim : 30 & 32 [2022]
Both Farah and Hadir's ages have been confirmed by Taylor Kurosaki who is one of the writers from Modern Warfare 2019. This was confirmed when a fan ask him via twitter/X about how old Farah was during the Barkov invasion.
This means in 1999 when Barkov invaded Farah was 7 and Hadir was 9. In 2009 when they escaped they are 17 and 19 respectively and in 2019 they are 27 and 29. Hadir dies in December of 2022 as discovered in the Atomgrad raids at the age of 32.
John Price : 37 [2022]
Using the information provided from his original operator bio we find that "John Price joined the infantry at the age of sixteen and has served the British Army for 18 years." and that "he was ‘Badged’ a member of SAS in 2005, spending the next ten years in the Middle East, the horn of Africa.".
With this Price's age works out to be about 34 years old, but since it only mentions serving the British army. I added 4 years for him to be able to complete basic training which is roughly 18 weeks basic training.* Followed by Special Air Service (SAS) training with is roughly a couple months, but you must serve at least 18 months in the military to be selected**, and finally his training at the Royal Military Academy to become a Lieutenant and then Captain which is 44 weeks with 2-3 weeks of leave.***
So Price would join the British army at 16 in 2001, be badged a member of SAS at 20 in 2005, become Captain at 25 in 2010. In 2019 he would be 34 and finally 37 in 2022, which to me makes the most sense based on other character's ages.
*[army.mod.uk solider training] **[eliteukforces.info SAS] [eliteukforces.info SBS&SAS] ***[army.mod.uk officer training]
Kyle 'Gaz' Garrick : 32 [2022]
We can do the same process as we did with Price for Gaz, his operator bio says "Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick, enlisted in the British Army in 2008. Within four years, he passed selection for Her Majesty’s elite Special Air Service where he is currently rounding out a decade of service."
Since his bio never mentions what age he joins like with Price and Soap I'm going to assume he finished school and joined the military at 18. So Gaz is 18 in 2008, 29 in 2019 when he meets Price for the first time and 32 in 2022. I am not taking into consideration the archived Activision blog posts, which say he joined in 2014 because of them being archived. I do use it for some other characters but for Gaz it changed the date he joined not just giving extra information.
Johnny 'Soap' MacTavish : 26 [2022]
You can blame Activision for why Soap is so young compared to the others. So according to his updated operator bio, "Soap has spent the last seven years carrying out both covert and overt operations around the world." this with the contents of his old operator bio before MW3 "At 16, too young to sign up, but lying about his age, MacTavish enrolled in the Special Air Service…"
Means that Soap would be 23 in 2022, which doesn't make the most sense especially considering he is a Sergeant in 2019 meaning he would be 20 in the MW3 flashback. So I gave him the same treatment as Price and added 3 years, to make up for basic and SAS training. So he would be 16 in 2012 joining the British Army have to wait 18 months to apply for SAS, be roughly 18 when he starts SAS training and finish it at 19 in 2015.*
So making him now 23 in 2019, 26 in 2022 but since he lied about his age TF 141 would think he's 28 during MW2 or 25 during 2019.
*[jobs.army.mod.uk SAS reserve]
Alex Keller : 35 [2022]
Alex is one of the last characters who have dates or years of service in their information. From his Campaign Biography it says he was a part of, "CIA's Special Activities Division," and also has surrendered "his former rank and history of special ops military service with Army Delta, Alex sacrificed traditional contact and association with family to join the SAD. He has spent the last six years living a series of assumed identities to achieve “sensitive” objectives wherever he is needed."
There's also, "Through 2017, Alex’s units played a key role in ensuring definitive victories against emerging terrorist networks." So we know Alex has been working in the military before 2017, now most SAD members are former Delta operators. There's also some reports of SAD members having Master's and law degrees.* So with that we can add roughly 6 years to his age to complete a master's degree in law.**
Now Delta force has some requirements like being over 21 to join and having two and a half years of service remaining, so if Alex joined the US military at 18 after finishing High School and getting his diploma.*** In a couple years he could join Delta Force, so by 26 he would be able to be apart of CIA's SAD. (If studying part time while in Delta Force) Then adding the another six years which is when he is apart of SAD, which is mention in his biography as the last six years. The bio is published late 2019 so Alex would be 32 years old.
So Alex would join the Military at 18 in 2005, would be 32 in 2019 when he loses the lower half of one of his legs and 35 in 2022.
*[CIA SAD] **[coursera.org law school] ***[Delta Force] [US Military Requirements]
Now for the Characters with little infomation
Alejandro & Rodolfo : both 37
We find out they've known each other for 20 years and signed up together. So they are both younger than 38 but older than 30 since Alejandro is a Colonel. Looking at Wikipedia you can/have to join 18 the Mexican military for at least 3 years, this gives them about maybe two years to get to know each other before joining together.
Ghost : 35 [2022]
Honestly just pick an age between Price and Gaz, I personally like the idea of him being the same age as Alex and having them know each other previously. Maybe even before Ghost starts wearing the skull mask.
Laswell & Nikolai : 52 & 45 [2022]
No older that 52 and 45 if we go based on their actors ages, which personally makes the most sense to me. Laswell's Campaign biography mentions her supervising a SAD program in 2008, and her having studied a Master's degree in strategic intelligence analysis and having a BA in International Affairs. This doesn't help much though with figuring out her age.
AN: Hopefully this very long post is some what helpful or at least has some good resources that people can check out, especially fanfic writers or people making their own OCs.
I'm also going to repeat what I put at the top the end here. But what I've written down is not a definitive answer for their ages (minus Farah & Hadir) it's just what I personally think makes the most sense.
Don't let my own opinions/conclusions about their ages get in the way of you having fun with how you view/interpret these characters.
