summary: you’ve had feelings for your best friend for a while, but attending one of his shows deepened them. what happens when you finally confess backstage?
lowercase intended
warnings: smut
a/n: i wrote this at like 2am and reread it for mistakes around 3:30am so pls bare with me if there’s spelling mistake 😭

i watched my best friend on stage, looking like he’s cumming as he plays his guitar. least to say, i was mesmerized. his beauty was captured in the perfect way by many things. his sweat slicked hair stuck to his face, the straps to his overalls slightly falling off his toned shoulders and the bright stage lights complemented him perfectly. the way he parted his mouth and furrowed his brows had me feeling some way. well, it powered the way i was feeling towards him even more. i felt like every other fan girl of his, thirsting over the way he expresses himself while playing, but i honestly couldn’t blame them.
i knew the band was reaching towards the end of their show, all of them covered in sweat. i mentally cursed myself at the feeling deep down in my stomach, guilty of how i feel about my best friend. i wished to go to the bathroom and freshen up but being right up front prevented me from doing so. after two more songs they finally ended their show, thanking everyone for attending. i stood in the same spot for a bit, waiting for the place to empty out before heading backstage.
i reach in my pocket for some pass i was given to flash to security so no hassle would happen over me trying to “trespass”. the blank white walls was all i saw as i made my way to his dressing room, carefully reading the signs so i wouldn’t walk in on anyone else. i scan the handwritten sign taped to the white door in front of my eyes.
‘john frusciante’
i quietly knock on the door, stomach doing flips as i picture his sweaty self opening the door. and that’s exactly what i saw. he grinned brightly at my presence, his strong chest slicked with sweat.
“i thought you’d get lost.” he joked, walking back towards the couch in his room.
“i honestly thought i was for a sec.” i laugh back, walking in and closing the door behind me.
“how’d you enjoy it?” he wiped the sweat off his neck with a hand towel.
“eh, it was okay.” i lie.
“staring at anthony too long kinda ruined it, huh?” he joked.
the joke caught me off guard as i let out a laugh.
“you read my mind, they should have you in the front.” i suggest, sitting down next to him.
“nah, seeing my beauty is a privilege.”
i nod in agreement, so lucky to be close with him.
“i saw you kinda spaced out towards the end, anything to share?”
“huh? oh, nah nothing to report. just thought some…thoughts.”
“oooo, who’s the lucky guy?” he wiggled his eyebrows.
“what? what makes you think it was like that?” my nerves began slowly rising.
“that pause you did indicates it was about a guy. since i’m your best friend i’m obligated to know who’s on your mind.”
“no way, i’m not saying.” i awkwardly chuckle, hoping he’d leave it alone.
but knowing john, he won’t. and that’s exactly what he did.
“oh come onnnn, pleaseeee.” he began leaning on me.
i try to shove him off but he put his dead weight on me, head sliding down to eventually rest in my lap.
“please?” he pouts and attempts puppy dog eyes.
“no.”
“why not? i tell you stuff like that.”
“against my will.” i lightly laugh, trying to distract him.
“is it one of my band mates? please don’t tell me it’s anthony.” he quickly sits up at the thought of me thinking about anthony like that.
“what? no, it’s not your band mates.” i immediately shake my head.
“describe him then.”
“i literally hate you.”
“i think you absolutely love me.” he cheekily smiles.
he gives me a pressuring puppy dog eye look that works this time. i sigh in defeat, guessing that it’s better to tell him now rather than having me awkwardly bring it up later on.
“he has this gorgeous facial bone structure. his hair is an absolutely beautiful color, complimenting him wonderfully. his body is sculpted in a way you’d never think would be possible. i hate when his eyes look at me, they’re breathtaking and they make me feel like i’m on fire. his touch is so delicate when he doesn’t mean to be. his fingers are a blessing, crafted to move in an articulate way to match the way he does what he does for a living. the way his mind works is crazy to me, his words like addicting honey that stick me to him forever. i hate thinking of him like this but it’s hard not to.” i spit out.
the entire time i stared at the floor, fingers playing with one another. i’m self conscious of his eyes on me, no emotion on his face as he dissects my words in his brain. as each silent second goes by, i panic even more. i immediately start cursing myself out mentally, why did i say that shit? i open my mouth to apologize but he cut me off.
“what a lucky man..” his eyes dug into mine.
“d-do you not know who i’m talking about?”
i’m well aware i never mentioned him directly but i thought he’d somehow get it.
“no? should i know?” he furrows his eyebrows.
i mutter a soft ‘fuck’ and i put my face into my hands.
“but what i know is that i’m a very lucky man.”
“you suck.” i roll my eyes at his stupidity.
“is that how you really feel about me? please be honest.”
“everything i said was as honest as i can be, johnny. i’ve been feeling like this for a while but i didn’t want to ruin our friendship. i love you so much and i don’t want to lose you.” i lift my head up to look at him.
more silence filled the room as i wait for his answer. before i could even react, he practically lunges towards me. his big hands grabbing my face to hold it as his lips met mine. my eyes widen in complete shock, is he really kissing me?
it took me a bit to realize what was happening for me start kissing back. my eyes slowly close as made out. my hands slowly snaked their way to his head, one pressing against the back of his neck and the other on his cheek. he slowly started to guide me to lay down, holding himself up with his arm. i imagined how it would feel to kiss john but i never knew it’d feel so blissful. my entire body buzzed with adrenaline, heart rate probably being a crazy number. his lips were so soft and plump, moving perfectly with mine. i go to run my fingers through his brown hair, tugging at it slightly.
“fuck.” he muttered against my lips.
before anymore kissing could happen, he pulled away. his lips even more plump and red from kissing, quick pants escaping from them.
“do you want to do this? i-i didn’t want to force you to do this, i’m sorry.” a worried look prominent on his face.
“of course i do. i want this. i want you.”
he quietly groaned out at my words, not wasting any time to kiss me again. i go to touch his torso, my fingers dance against his hot skin. feeling him like this, so intimately, just provoked that feeling in my stomach even more. my brain couldn’t form any words for me to say so i just whine into our kiss.
“you trying to ask for something? use your words.” he breathes out.
“please…now..” i hate how i’m already wrapped around his finger but let’s be honest, i’ve always been.
“you want me now? can’t wait even a few minutes. so needy..” he trails his kisses down my neck.
he stays there, marking me to show every guy that i’m taken. i think? i was too caught up in my thoughts that i didn’t notice he began taking off my shirt. the fabric trailing over my face snapped me back into reality. my odd choice of a raunchy bra for today paid off, his eyes focused mainly on my chest. the feeling of his hands groping my boobs caused my heart to beat faster, which i don’t think is even possible at the rate it’s at.
he messaged my boobs as he went back to biting, sucking and kissing my neck. i moaned out, back arching which made me feel his boner poking my thigh. i subconsciously began rubbing against his overall jeans, attempting to pleasure him. he lets out a throaty moan, his grip on my boobs hardening. he pulled away from my chest and stood up. i watched as he unclipped his overalls, letting them fall to his ankles to reveal his white boxers. a very visible white spot was the first thing i noticed on the boxers.
“are you able to take off your clothes? or is the adrenaline stopping you?” it was like he knew exactly how i was feeling.
i shook my head before reaching back to unclip my bra. i sat up and let it fall to my lap, grabbing it to throw it on top my previously discarded shirt. john’s hand tried to sneakily grope himself through his boxers at the sight of my bare chest but i notice quickly. i bit my lip knowing that he’s hard because of me. i go to unbutton my jeans, shimmying them down my legs.
“god, like i said, i’m such a lucky man.” he eyes me.
at the same time, we both pulled the last pieces of clothing off and threw them on the floor. john climbed back on top of me, his lips back on mine. completely naked, bare skin touching as we made out was definitely not how i imagined this night to end. my fingers ended up in his hair again, tugging harder than before. he very obviously loved when i did since he’d moan every time.
“you ready?” he rested his forehead on mine.
“have been.”
he grabbed his dick, aligning it perfectly with me. one last kiss to my lips is what he did before slowly sliding inside me. a long, low moan escapes his mouth as he felt me. i moan out at the stretching he was doing, my nails digging into his shoulders.
“faster, please john..” i beg.
he needed no more words from me as he started to thrust. at first he carefully thrusted, watching me to see if i’d get hurt but after noticing that i’m fine he went faster. the couch creaked and moved with every thrust, probably scratching the floor.
i gripped his body, hands roaming all over place not knowing where to stay. at one point i pushed his head back to me and connected our lips. our tongues fought for dominance, exploring one another’s mouth. one of his arms held him up as he thrusted harder, the other playing with my boob. everything felt so right, like this was meant to be. i wished i confessed to him earlier, imagining how it would’ve felt to be so close to him like this sooner.
we’re both well aware how loud we’re being, not a single care in the world crossed our minds. john wanted everyone to hear us, to know that no one else is making me feel as good as he his. for everyone to know that he’s so hooked to me and only me. little to my knowledge, john’s always loved me. also not wanting to ruin our relationship, he kept quiet about his feelings and desires. but today he got quite lucky at my sudden confession. he grabbed onto the cushion tightly as the feeling in his abdomen began tightening.
“fuck i’m close, baby.” he moaned.
i whine out at the pet name. he abandoned my boob and moved his hand down to my clit, rubbing it to fasten my orgasm. i gasp out in pleasure, damn near pornographic moans spewing out my mouth.
his “trick” worked as i felt the coil in my stomach tighten. i only hum out to signal him that i was close. he understood and went harder and deeper. i tighten around him, which caused him to cum quickly. he spat out ‘fuck’s as he came, hips stuttering as he tried to keep going to get me to cum. his eyes squeezed shut at his sore dick still thrusting inside me, pushing his cum deeper inside. that definitely was not intentional. seeing john in such a state made me reach my peak, moaning out his name over and over as i came all over his cock. the feeling of me cumming all over him caused him to cum once more. he slowed down his thrusts before coming to a stop, collapsing onto my chest from exhaustion.
i lay there to catch my breath, his hot breath fanning over my collarbone. i reach to kiss the top of his head, even going to stroke his hair.
“you did so good.” i whisper in his ear, kissing it afterwards.
“i love you.” he hugged me tightly.
“i love you too, johnny.” a huge smile forming on my face.
“can we go home? i’m tired.” he mumbled.
“alright, get up and i’ll help you get dressed.”
he sluggishly pulled himself out of me and sit up on the couch.
“you should be doing this.” i joke at the fact that i’m taking care of him after.
he starts to get up but i was quick to push him back down.
“i’m kidding.”
i wobbly stand up and grab the hand towel he used earlier. the ticklish feeling of his cum slowly dripping out of me made me grimace, and also reminded me to get a plan b. i clean myself off first then moved over to him. he hissed at the contact but got over it quick. i put my undergarments on before i grabbed his boxers, lifting them up his legs.
“you need to work with me here, john. sit up please.”
he lifted his hips up and sat back down once the boxers were on. i pull him up and off the couch so i could put the overalls back on, even going far to clip them back on.
“can i help you? it’s the least i could do.” he grabbed my shirt.
“go ahead.”
after helping me with my clothes, we both made ourselves look decent.
“so, what are we?” i heard him ask.
“best friends?” i nervously say.
i wasn’t too sure on how he felt about me, even though we just fucked. and he also said he loves me but i need more confirmation.
“what about lovers? i like that better.”
“are you asking what i think you’re asking?”
“yes ma’am. y/n, would you wanna be my girlfriend? i love you more than anything in the world and i’d be the happiest man on earth.”
“even more than guitars?”
“what?”
“you love me more than guitars?” i smirk, wrapping my arms around his waist.
“hmm, you should know better than to ask that.” he jokes.
“oh fuck you.” i laugh and push him away.
“i’m kidding, obviously more than guitars.”
“i believe you. but let’s get going cause now i’m getting tired.” he laughs at my words.
he grabs his guitar case and other belongings before walking up to the door. i held it open for him, following behind him. he snaked his arm around my waist as we walk back to my car.

IF YOU LIE DOWN WITH ME - JOHN FRUSCIANTE
john frusciante x reader!
warnings: VERY VERY BRIEF talk of smut, but besides that enjoy this fluff i wrote instead of working on finals <3 18+
“hey, you awake?”
you groaned in response. the crowd tonight in california was louder than usual. hometown show.
you were grateful for your fans, sure, but you’ve been left with a pounding headache that was not accompanied well when you take into account the four belligerent men you happened to share the tour bus with — not to mention the beers you pounded with chad right after the gig.
it was 2am and they’d finally started to settle down until john, the guitarist and the most reserved of the four, peeked into your little crevice of the bus, tapping on the wall to get your attention.
“my head hurts.” not even a yes or no reply, just unintelligble drivel into your pillow.
you heard him laugh, inching himself closer towards you and sitting down on the side of the pull-out bed.
“well, i thought you did great tonight.”
john told you this every night. since the beginning of the tour two months ago, without fail, he’d compliment you. in the past week, you started to notice that he’d began to compliment you more and more on your outfits. your eyes. your hair.
at this point you’ve turned to face john. even in the dark, you could still make out all of the features that have made you fall in love with him — like the fucking idiot you were.
similar to how john marveled at you, you couldn’t help but admire him right back — his dark eyes, his long, curly hair, and those fingers, always battered and bruised from his guitar playing.
“well, i’m opening for the best band in the world… i do my best.” you finally replied with half lidded eyes, giving him a smile and a tired thumbs-up.
all of a sudden, he grabbed your hand. this was new. he brought it to his cheek — also new. at this point, you sat upright, letting john’s hand drape over your own as you readjusted on the bed.
“you know i was the one who suggested you for the opening act?” he admitted, letting his thumb trace over your own hand.
“are you fucking with me?” you said.
“no, god no… i think you’re incredible. i know i tell you that all the time, but i’ll keep doing it. you have such a talent. jesus christ, everything about you …”
he trailed off, looking you up and down. his eyes were dilated, the size of the fucking moon. in that moment, the mood changed.
you smiled.
“— is just fucking incredible.”
he pulled you in, throwing his arms around you and pressing your lips together.
his lips tasted like cigarettes. yours tasted like cheap beer and you wished you’d have taken an aspirin before your tourmate was grabbing your head and running his fingers through your hair. as he worked his kisses down to your neck and bare shoulders, you felt your nipples harden as his hands worked their way towards your breasts.
“johnny?” you finally said, breaking the silence between your moans.
now slowly pressing kisses atop your sensitive breasts, he looked up at you.
“mmm?”
“how long have you wanted this?”
he took your face in his hands, gently pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“your song.”
“my song?”
“the night i met you. when i saw your show at the troubador and you played that cover of your song. you on stage with that guitar — no one’s ever looked more beautiful. that passionate.”
your foreheads pressed together.
you could feel john tense up after his confession. sweat beads dripped down his face and his hands, intertwined with yours, were trembling.
“do you want this?” he finally said.
you nodded. you wanted all of him. you’ve wanted him since the two of you had met.
and now those dark eyes? that long, curly hair, and those fingers, always battered and bruised from his guitar playing? they want you too.
you pulled yourself onto his lap. nestling against his shoulder, you whispered softly in his ear.
“john frusciante, you don’t know the fucking half of it.”
he relaxed.
“i’m all in. but for now, all i want is sleep.”
respecting your sudden wish to sleep off your headache — the beers you had surely weren’t helping it— he started to get up from the bed, but you grabbed his hand.
“wait. johnny, will you lie down with me?”

Great Guitarists 100 - John Frusciante, Tom Morello, Kurt Cobain, Billie Joe Armstrong, Kevin Shields, and Noel Gallagher [CROSSBEAT (November 2009)]
John Frusciante Rolling Stone magazine has chosen John Mayer, Derek Trucks, and John Frusciante as the three greatest guitarists of our time. The three greatest guitarists of the 1960s, including Eric Clapton, were from the UK, but all three are now American. Mayer and Trucks have a wide circle of friends, including Clapton, but Frusciante is a solitary figure. He has a thriving solo career, but is a martyr to the band. He devotes all his energies to expressing himself within the collective soulmate that is Red Hot Chili Peppers. John's guitar has no clear style. He can create catchy riffs, he can play well-crafted solos, and he's good at backing vocals. He has the versatility to adapt to any situation, but he is at his strongest in the arena of Red Hot Chili Peppers. This is probably due to the inspiration provided by Flea, a bassist with a deep range, and the support of Anthony, a vocalist who can make you listen with sensitivity rather than skill. The band's tone and phrasing are free and uninhibited. This style is supported by his concentration and the technique he has developed since his teenage years. It would be rare to find a boy who woke up listening to Captain Beefheart and practising 15 hours a day to Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix records. -Akihiko Yamamoto

Tom Morello Tom Morello's unique guitar playing is like that of a DJ. This is Tom Morello's trademark, but it is not his main focus. His backbone comes from hard rock. Tom was born in 1964. He got into rock with Led Zeppelin and KISS, then experienced punks like The Clash and formed his first band…… This is a typical generation. Tom followed this completely. In fact, in the midst of the heavy metal boom, he even learned to play technical guitar solos. In short, he had a very normal musical background for someone born in the 1960s. However, an encounter with the members of the band that would later form Rage Against the Machine marked a turning point for Tom. He was shocked by the hip-hop-tinged musicality that centred on Zack, and tried and tested it. As a means of countering this, he came up with the idea of replacing Public Enemy and Run DMC's DJ playing with guitars, which led to a series of unique performances. It was a kind of paradigm shift. In other words, instead of being a better guitarist than anyone else, he makes sounds that no one else can make. By changing his way of thinking 180 degrees, Tom Morello made a great leap forward as a guitarist. -Junya Shimofusa

Kurt Cobain Buzz Osborne, Greg Sage and Calvin Johnson. When considering Kurt Cobain's guitar style, the influence of these three cannot be ignored. Buzz, as you know, was a fellow senior member of the band and the man who introduced Kurt to the appeal of a slower, heavier sound. Greg led the Wipers in the late 70s and early 80s. Nirvana covered a couple of songs, but more than that, it's worth noting that Greg's psychedelic guitar sound is remarkably similar to Kurt's. And then there's Calvin. Kurt was strongly devoted to that spirit for a time. Kurt's lo-fi sensibility and artistry were developed while living in Olympia (Calvin's home base). Heavy, psychedelic, and lo-fi. Kurt has cleverly incorporated these three keywords of 80s American indie music to form his own style. -Junya Shimofusa
Representative albums "Bleach" (1989), Nirvana "Nevermind" (1991, photo)
Billie Joe Armstrong How many kids picked up a guitar at the sight of Billie Joe playing his battered Stratocaster? His guitar playing, with its simple combination of power chord strumming, arguably played the same role in the 90s as Johnny Ramone's. Despite being labelled as mellowcore at the time of their debut, there is not much hardcore influence in Green Day's sound, including their guitar playing. Rather, there is a strong influence from 60s British beat and 70s UK punk. After establishing his own style with 'Dookie', from 'Warning' he began to use acoustic guitars to great effect. It is interesting to note that, despite having listened to hard rock and heavy metal before punk, there is almost no trace of that influence in his music today. -Tomoo Yamaguchi
Representative albums "Dookie" (1994, photo), Green Day "Warning" (2000)
Kevin Shields After original members Dave and Tina left the band, My Bloody Valentine became a twin-vocal band with Bilinda, who joined the band midway through. On the Rage label they were still playing an anorak-like guitar sound influenced by The Jesus and Mary Chain, but after moving to Creation they quickly evolved. Kevin's noisy and inebriated guitar sound had a huge influence on the so-called 'shoegazers' that followed. While his followers used a lot of delays and reverbs, the original used almost no spatial effectors. They created "fluctuations in space and time" by holding the tremolo arm, strumming chords and applying reverse reverb. The sound, which no one had ever heard at the time, even led to numerous speculations, such as "Could he be controlling the number of tape revolutions?" -Takanori Kuroda
Representative albums "Isn't Anything" (1988) My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" (1991, photo)
Noel Gallagher Noel Gallagher is a well-known big mouth. His off-the-cuff remarks are often controversial. As the man who runs the biggest band on the UK scene, he probably has to be that bold. However, when it comes to his guitar playing, his personality is anything but bold. A fear of mistuning is evident. The guitar playing on the album, as well as live, is very collective. He never misses a note, as if he were following a musical score. Even the guitar solos, which are a guitarist's greatest showpiece, are almost exactly the same as on the album. In any case, he doesn't take any risks. In other words, you can see through his surprisingly naïve mind. In a rock world still infested with gymnastic machismo, this is a rare individuality. The band's music has the air of a big-boned, but in fact it is very sensitive. This sense of mismatch is Noel's greatest individuality. -Junya Shimofusa

The latest tribute for my awesome friend @skykain and their Skaven gals (modern versions) with their ‘Music Bands’ once again, this time featuring the main crews and additional details for their alt-rock and metal (mostly) band called the “Morrslieb.”
Brief story of the band:
It's start when 'Waffle', who had a part-time job in a modern world as DJ decided to team up with 'Martha' and 'Globi' who cover pop & rock songs as their hobby (being a music enthusiast like Waffle, Martha was the one who do this stuff first, Globi like it and join later) and 'Ratly' who is interested in Rock & Metal music in general for making a music band together and play a various kind of "cover songs" and their own songs in nightclubs. The result was great, and the band could be able to made it into bigger stages from times to times. 'Jezza' later join the band, although it takes quite a lot of persuasion for her to join since she's a lonesome type of girl and mostly cooperated and/or tagged along with Martha for personal reasons.
However, Ratly later asked her friends to separate from the band and join the Hard-core gals (Silvia, Packie, Gutty, and later Hilda) creating another band that mainly cover Heavy Metal songs called "The Rodents". The rest of Skryre gals understand her and have no problem with it and she can still return to help her former band for playing drum again for sometimes. As for the empty position, it was replaced by Grinda who unexpectedly offer her help and show her drum skills to everyone.
Positions of the 'core' band members:
1. Warpfire Thrower aka 'Waffle': Turntable, Samples & Programming, Vocals/BGD Vocals, Kbds
2. Poisoned Wind Mortar aka 'Martha': Vocals/BGD Vocals, Gtr (both Rhythm & Lead), Samples

5. Warp-Grinder aka 'Grinda': Drums & Percussion, BGD Vocals, OCC Gtr (Rhythm), Samples & Programming (supports Waffle)
For the most frequent guests:

The rest are future characters and even outsiders (non-Skaven characters) who want to jam or support/assist the band.
Notes:
1. After a discussion with SkyKain, a suitable Warlord as a guest for Morrslieb would be Ikit Claw since she likes some of the more elegant or classy music and there are a lot of Skrye apprentices here.
2. The message on Martha's guitar refers to the Red Hot Chili Peppers/RHCP' amazing performance at La CIGALE in Paris, 2006. Particularly John Frusciante's (a guitarist, one of Martha fav idols)'s performance during “Don't forget me.”
3. Grinda developed her interest in music after seeing her friends playing the cover songs during their rehearsals. She decided to choose drum as her main instrument by seeing Ratly and some of the famous drummers as her inspirations. For the latter, the examples are; Karen Carpenter - a vocalist (mainly) and drummer from the Carpenters, and Chad Smith from RHCP.
However, with her personal reasons, she decides to learn how to be a professional drummer in her own way by secretly taking jazz classes alone (Ikit approve this, btw). She later shows the skills she learned so far to her friends and was immediately accepted into 'the Morrslieb' band not long after Ratly informs everyone that she wants to join 'the Rodents' and the band plan to recruit a new drummer.
4. Also note if the band wanna cover RHCP, the suitable bassist for this is gonna be Packie (as a main guest), I believe she's the one who is skillful enough and being so energetic like 'FLEA' (the band's bassist and usually regarded as one of the best bassist players in the world, also one of her fav idols for several reasons, lol XD). While the (main) vocalist I think it's gonna be Waffle.
5. Of course, the icons for Skaven belong to SkyKain.

"The fact that some of our songs have reached people thru the radio is something I'm glad for. I also encourage people to find out about music in other ways, like asking questions to people you think are cool, or finding out who your favorite recording artists themselves like, or buying something because you like the cover."

whoa haha just a small world moment but i just met a musician in the park today and he told me about a tuesday night music thing that goes on, open jam so I'm stoked haha I have been looking to meet more musicians so this is great and also nice to meet you as well on here, big club going up on a tuesday vibe haha anyway as a guitarist can i cover any songs you would recommend or are you much of a musician yourself?
oh hello! yeah funny that's lol, it's just a vibe that hits right. Every day is a Tuesday when it comes to music I suppose heheh.
I'm no musician, not a lick of any instrument in me. I'm purely an appreciator. Here I just post tunes I like, plus bonus reblogs.
As for recommendations... what're you into? Guitar songs is a very wide criteria lol. I could rec anything Johnny Marr or John Frusciante have played on, anything Ritchie Blackmore or Lee Ranaldo or Carlos Alomar, or maybe you're strictly acoustic, in which case I'd rec any of the Delta blues giants? There's just so much great guitar music out there, and lots of that I've never heard yet!
That's not a satisfying answer I guess, but if/when you see this, send another ask if you feel like. I hope that open jam rocks!
#asks#13thpythagoras#sorry for the late reply i'm getting a ton of asks lately from fundraisers#needle skipping#also congrats on being this blog's first ask hehe

The Unlimited Love Tour: Red Hot Chili Peppers & Wand 7/12/2024
In December of 2023, Red Hot Chili Peppers decided to extend the Unlimited Love Tour after having amazing runs in 2022 & 2023. On select dates Special Guests Kid Cudi, Ice Cube, Ken Carson, Otoboke Beaver, Seun Kuti & Egypt80, and Wand. Earlier this year, I noticed they would return to the road for another leg of their tour. I thought it would be a good idea to try covering this tour for Concerthopper, especially after learning they would perform at the Darien Lake Amphitheater. When the confirmation email arrived the day before the show, it was unexpected. I never thought I would take photos of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As I made my way to the venue, I listened to some of their biggest hits such as "Californication" and "Scar Tissue." When I arrived at the venue, I was excited to see Red Hot Chili Peppers perform, but before that, we caught a performance by the band Wand.
WAND is an American psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, California, United States, formed in 2013. The band consists of Cory Hanson (vocals, guitar), Robert Cody (guitar), Evan Backer (bass), and Evan Burrows (drums). They have consistently released an album each year since their rise to stardom, with their latest album being Vertigo. This band was a bit different from the music I usually listen to, but I enjoyed their performance. The singer, Cory Hanson, had a lot of energy, singing, playing the guitar, and even playing the harmonica right from the start of their set. Their music reminded me of the Beatles but with a modern twist. They played 13 songs, and out of their whole set, I enjoyed their song "Flying Golem" the most.
The legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers, hailing from Los Angeles and formed in 1982, are a force to be reckoned with. Led by the charismatic vocalist Anthony Kiedis, fueled by the funky basslines of Flea, propelled by the rhythmic beats of drummer Chad Smith, and adorned with the soulful guitar melodies of John Frusciante, their music is a unique fusion of alternative rock, funk, hard rock, hip hop, and psychedelic rock. With an impressive discography of 13 albums, their tracks like "Californication," "Under The Bridge," and "Give It Away" have seeped into the hearts of their fans. The band has been honored with 73 awards and 65 nominations worldwide, including an outstanding twelve Grammy Award wins out of sixteen nominations. As the time approached for the Red Hot Chili Peppers to take the stage, I could feel the anticipation building. Then, something caught my eye - Flea walking onto the stage, effortlessly executing a handstand. His energy set the tone for the night as he launched into a captivating bass solo, setting the stage on fire and getting the crowd pumped for the show ahead. Throughout the night, the band treated the audience to almost 20 electrifying songs, including a thrilling cover of "I Remember You" by the Ramones with a standout solo by John Frusciante and a soulful rendition of "The Zephyr Song". The night reached its zenith with crowd favorites like "Under The Bridge" and "Give It Away" during the encore, leaving everyone buzzing with excitement. As I made my way out of the venue, I couldn't help but notice fans peering through the fence and lingering near the back gates, eager to catch a glimpse of the unforgettable performance they had just witnessed.

Listed: Aaron Dooley
Aaron Dooley is a bass player and composer, originally from Illinois but now living in Denver, Colorado. He has played in many different bands in a diverse array of genres, including the garage-psych Gay Neighbors, shoegaze-y Totem Pocket and neo-soul Dog Tags, but more recently has dipped into improvisation and jazz. Jennifer Kelly reviewed his most recent album, The International Disassociation of, noting that “This second outing of 2023 from Aaron Dooley’s seven-piece jazz ensemble shimmers and shifts, an indefinite haze of sound breaking, sporadically, for clear flights of melody. Dooley, a bass player out of Denver, plunks a subtle, unsettling undertow, allowing other instruments — pedal steel, saxophone, even drums — to slip to the forefront. All improvised, these cuts absorb multiple points of view into free-flowing inquiry, not muddying them, but softening the edges.” Here are ten of Dooley’s favorites.
Yusef Lateef — Cry! Tender
youtube
Around age 16, this was probably the first record I ever bought (thanks North Street Records), let alone the first jazz that ever gripped me. Something about the smooth-looking bald guy with a flute on the cover grabbed me, but the sounds coming from the platter kept me coming back again and again. Songs like “Dopolous” sway along with such eerie elegance that even the swing rhythms feel like a somber march. A fun tidbit, Ernie Farrow, Alice Coltrane’s half-brother, is playing bass on the album.
Shlohmo — Shlo-Fi E.P.
youtube
I remember my friend Jacob Dilley hipping me to Shlohmo one Sunday morning. It was better than church. I hadn’t ever heard anything quite like it before. Beats, samples, found sounds arranged in a way that was almost spiritual. A lifelong Shlohmo fan, I’m happy to see his sound and career evolve, but those first Shlohmo releases between 2009 and 2011 sounded like treasure unearthed from the concrete. Probably the first artist to open the door to my love for non-lyrical music.
John Frusciante — Shadows Collide With People
youtube
That’s right hipsters, it’s the guy from Red Hot Chili Peppers. And Flea and Chad Smith are the backing band. But Anthony Keidis is nowhere to be found, so some might argue it’s the best RHCP album there is. I could give a whole dissertation on this album, but basically, it was a great healing force when it came into my life, and made me aware and appreciative of sounds that would lead me to where I am today.
Herbcraft — The Astral Body Electric
youtube
I believe it was September 1st, 2015, that Matt LaJoie played at Reverberation Vinyl. Herbcraft’s performance was inspiring and transcendent to say the least. I’ve loved everything Matt has put out, but those early Herbcraft records hold a special place in my heart. Before that point, I don't think I had any actual awareness of the country’s underground psych scene, but everything came full circle when I had the honor to play with Matt at Reverberation Vinyl this last May.
Jaco Pastorius — Solo
youtube
Every electric bass player owes something to Jaco. The heaviest bass nerds could go on for days about all the doors he opened (or kicked free from the hinges), but for me this particular solo encapsulates everything I like about Jaco as a player: running the bass through chorus and delay/reverb to create otherworldly tones with harmonics, riding the line between melody and the abstract, and grooving into a rock song like “Third Stone From the Sun.” When I saw this in like 2008, I realized jazz and rock were perhaps more similar than I had once thought. Also, my love for harmonics was sealed forever.
Shigeto — No Better Time Than Now
youtube
This is a strong contender for my desert island album. I don’t think Shigeto (Zachary Saginaw) has gotten the love he deserves for his approaches to music making like many of his contemporaries. The way the live instruments, his drumming in particular, blend with the electronic automations to create a sound that threads beautifully between genres. Electric perfection.
Primal Scream — Swastika Eyes (Jagz Kooner Mix)
youtube
For the last few years, I’d probably say Primal Scream has been my favorite band. Far beyond Screamadelica, the whole Primal Scream discography hits a lot of zones I’ve considered my favorites throughout the years. Bobby Gillespe has always seemed to be politically well-minded, and the way his laid-back delivery blends with noise rock onslaughts and sweaty club pulsations really does it for me. Whether folks want to admit it or not, I hear a lot of their influence in what’s happened musically over the last 15 years.
Ron Miles — Circuit Rider (2015-06-29) Monument National
youtube
I had the honor of studying with Ron Miles for a year or so during my time at MSU Denver. Brief as it was, I am forever grateful for it. I owe it to Ron for giving me the confidence to record the Trapped in Purgatory album and I am disappointed that he passed before its release. He seemed to respect my knack for music history and the last time I saw him, he asked me where he should start with krautrock. I hope he went home and checked out some CAN that night.
Gimo
A well of infinite talent and spirit and forever on the right-side of history, I can’t really find the words to properly express the influence Gimo has had on my life. They’ve given me more love than I deserve, and I don’t know how to adequately state the influence they’ve had on me. The most incredible artist, they did the cover of my Dooley Noted album, and are currently tattooing at Wild Wind Tattoo in Chicago. Find them on IG @i_am_gimo and book a tattoo appointment with them if you're in Chicago; you won’t regret it!
John Anderson, Reverberation Vinyl
The mentor. The influencer. The psychedelic stepdad. It’s hard to state the love and respect I’ve got for John. I wouldn’t be doing what I am musically without his guidance. He’s turned me on to quite a bit of good tunes and has gotten me to go across the country more than once for a music pilgrimage. Not including the numerous heads John’s brough to his store, Reverberation Vinyl, I owe much of my connection to the country’s music underground to his networking. Hope I can continue to make you proud, buddy.

Björk - Post
Björk was somewhat known for being the quirky frontwoman of The Sugarcubes, but it was her second solo album that cemented her reputation for being weird as fuck. The album isn't really that strange, when you break it down it's mostly trip hop inspired pop music with a unique vocal delivery. The delivery is definitely what cements it though. Björk warbles, whispers, and screams through every track. Sometimes with total disregard for the underlying music track. The result is surreal and mesmerizing. While Björk may have doubled down on the weirdness as her career continued this is definitely the point where people started to really take notice.
The Modern Lovers - s/t
I can't stand Jonathan Richman's voice. He sounds like The Fonz trying to do a Sylvester Stallone impersonation. His lyrics are idiotic and juvenile. It feels like he's trying to project a sense of childlike innocence while also singing about girl as if we're objects to be won. Honestly there's such a weird conservative vibe that I get from him, he's so smug about not doing drugs and he, in his own words, "want(s) to keep (his) place in the old world". It just smacks of conservatism. And why does he like New England so much? Shut up. Roadrunner is a good song tho.
The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man
With their jangly twelve string guitars and their combination of originals and Dylan covers The Byrds managed to hit the scene as both the American answer to the Beatles and the originators of folk rock. Hazy vocal harmonies, and crisp arpeggios make for a very summery, very California sound, but with enough of the Mersey beat to feel like a natural part of the British invasion infested waters of 65.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
This would be a great John Frusciante album, but for some reason there's this guy singing idiotic lyrics over all the really good guitar parts. I've never been huge on Kiedris as a vocalist, but every RHCP album from this one on has the most annoying white guy rapping meets sensitive frat boy vibes. Even the parts I like are tainted by the knowledge that this is one of the most sexual assault at a college party tier albums of all time.
Big Star - Third/Sister Lovers
This is one of those albums with a million different versions. It was recorded in 74 and the Rolling Stone list is referring to the first release from 78. I'm just gonna go ahead and review the 92 release because it's the one I have and the one that most reflects the band's intention for the album. Alex Chilton more or less recorded this as a solo album with a revolving cast of musicians including the members of Big Star. And it is a weird personal project that reflects Chilton's unstable mental state. He sounds like he's gonna fall apart on half the songs and the garage pop of previous records is replaced with an unsteady shambling mess of lofi indie classic rock. It's beautiful, of course, and I honestly think that Alex Chilton should be allowed to do whatever he wants in the studio at all times.
