Line Upon Line Lesson 066: Bread from Heaven
Exodus 16:14-16 - And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.’ ”
‭‭God provided food for the children of Israel during their wanderings in the wilderness.  When the Israelites first saw manna, they were not sure what it was. What lessons was God trying to teach them with the miracle of the manna?
Let’s read together Exodus 16:17-21; Matthew 6:11; and Philippians 4:19.
God was teaching the children of Israel to depend upon Him daily. Even today this is not an easy lesson for us to learn.
Let’s read together Genesis 2:2-3; Exodus 16:22-30; and Mark 2:27-28.
Many people mistakenly believe the Sabbath was only for the Jews. God was reminding the children of Israel to keep the Sabbath even before they got to Mount Sinai. Jesus Himself said that the Sabbath was for man, as in everyone.
Let’s read together Exodus 16:32-34; Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4; and John 6:35.
The most important lesson God wanted to teach the children of Israel was that they needed spiritual food as well as physical food. Today we know that the manna pointed to Jesus, the bread of life.  We read the Bible daily to learn more of Jesus and his life.
Friend, will you live by the word of God daily?

His Own People Didn't See Who Jesus Was. Could They Have Been TOO CLose?
It is a remarkable point of fact that the Hebrew leaders in first Century Jerusalem and even many of his contemporaries did not see clearly who Jesus was. He performed miracles, but not in front of everybody; he was foretold by the Hebrew Scriptures, but he wasn’t raised as a Pharisee or a Levite. So why didn’t the religious rock stars in Jerusalem see Jesus as the Son of God? Could they have…

The Wednesday Word: Jesus, the Bread of Life for the Hungry Soul
In John’s Gospel, we find the seven ‘I Am’ scriptures, spoken by Jesus to declare His Deity. Among them, we discover John 6:35, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” Listening to this, we must conclude that, if Jesus is not God, He can hardly be viewed as a repository of deep humility. Here, He declares Himself as the…

Destroying Our Own Lives
Today was a good reading day. Two books, besides my Bible were on my docket, a novel, Anna Karenina by Tolstoy and What Jesus Demands from the World, by John Piper. Below are two passages, one from each that I think illumine one another. The first one is from Tolstoy. It comes from part two, chapter 11, p.160. Without ever describing the lurid details, Tolstoy makes it clear that Vronsky, who has…

“WHEN THE JOURNEY WITH JESUS GETS HARD”
Luke 24:13-19, “That same day two of them were walking to the village Emmaus, about seven miles out of Jerusalem. They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened. In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them. But they were not able to recognize who He was. He asked, “What’s this you’re discussing so intently as you walk along?”…

Matthew 9:35-38 (AMP). “Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages [in Galilee], teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news (gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness [His words and His works reflecting His Messiahship]. When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion and pity for them, because they were dispirited and distressed, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is [indeed] plentiful, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Matthew 6:9-13 (AMP). “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ‘Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our daily bread. ‘And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’”
“Lord, Teach Us to Pray” By In Touch ministries:
“Keep talking to the Lord—He always welcomes you, just as you are.”
“When it comes to prayer, there are two common pitfalls to be aware of. First, when it’s unclear what to pray, some people choose not to pray at all. And second, many believers settle into a lifeless form of praying that leaves them feeling hollow and disconnected from God. Both situations lead to discontentment and frustration.
As Christians, we know that we should pray, even if doing so seems daunting. But far more than any sense of obligation we may feel, it’s wise to recognize that God intended prayer as a blessing for His children: Communing with Him is a fundamental way of experiencing His fullness. We have much to gain by praying—including peace, comfort, wisdom, and God’s very presence. So it would be tragic to give up on trying.
And remember, when we communicate with God, there’s no measuring stick or scorecard. A fumbling yet heartfelt attempt pleases Him far more than a well-worded litany that lacks sincerity. And keep in mind that formal prayers—such as the one Jesus taught His disciples (Matthew 6:9-13)—can help us find a path back into the practice when we’re lost.
Start with the Lord’s Prayer today and return to it as often as needed. You may eventually find your own words flowing freely as a result. But if not, don’t give up. Just keep talking to the Lord.”

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty
Daily Gospel Reading – John 6:24-35 24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus. Jesus the Bread of Life25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” 26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the…
