From the Canadian movie Stay The Night starring Andrea Bang and Joe Scarpellino.
Grace is a woman who decides to seek out a one-night stand with a man after being passed over for a promotion at work for being too reserved; visiting a bar she meets Carter, a professional hockey player who is also at a career crossroads, with the two making a more profound emotional connection over the course of the evening than either expected
*
The first time Carter sees Grace, he's just been dumped by the woman who was there with him and she's just been abandoned by her best friend. I love the way he looks at her the first time.
Later in the night, he's trying to give her advice on how to approach a guy from work in which she's been romantically interested. The lip gloss makes a reappearance ... and so does the way Carter looks at Grace with that slow, warm smile in his eyes and curving his mouth. It's beautiful.

Stay the Night (dir. Renuka Jeyapalan) x VAFF 2022.
Jeyapalan crafts a pleasing romance with enough interesting touches to hold our attention. If you are inclined for an all-in-one-night walk-and-talk film about two twentysomething singles, who both find themselves at personal and professional crossroads, then Stay the Night offers an enjoyable yet familiar vibe.

hi, it's me again! do you by chance have any favorite male fcs in their mid to late 20s that a) don't look super young (nothing wrong with it, I just kinda bounce off somebody who looks like a high schooler esp if I'm writing them against a 28-year-old other faceclaim) and b) are either actors or singers? I tend to glom onto faces better if they're in something I've seen (so like, Archie Renaux, Dakota Beavers, Timothee Chalamet have become faves because I've actually seen their movie/tv shows.) i hope that wasn't too niche, and thank you for your time!

Oh, Grace, why'd you come here? Last night, it wasn't just... I like you, Carter. I like you. I just wanted you to know that. And... Goodbye? Come here.

"Stay the Night"
“Stay the Night”
Writer / director Renuka Jeyapalan‘s “Stay the Night” is a lukewarm romance movie that’s based on a one night stand. It’s forgettable, tedious, and bland, but it is at least as plausible as any other film in the genre. Things aren’t going so great for Grace (Andrea Bang). Single and pushing 30, she’s had another disappointing day at work and feels even more like an outcast and failure. That…

Stay the Night is yet another Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight clone, but it’s one of the better ones. There are times when you know exactly what the characters are thinking and what they’re going to say, but it’s not because they are predictable so much as they talk and behave like real human beings. It also helps that the two leads have infinitely more chemistry than, say, Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba in the recent (and to a certain extent somewhat similar) Three Thousand Years of Longing.

“ … the two characters — Grace (Andrea Bang) and Carter (Joe Scarpellino) — have a space to interact, listen, take each other in, get to know each other.”
They even get to share a couple of early awkward silences that feel just as authentic as the spot-on dialogue.

“It is delicately crafted and dips into enough fun and serious conversations to keep itself from accidentally spilling the sexual tension between the protagonists, Grace, and Carter, upon the ice.”
I don’t debate the delicate crafting, but actually one of the first things the film does is precisely diffuse the sexual tension by way of a hilarious yet poignant scene which I will not reveal.

“Grace uses her HR skills to help Carter face the reality of being demoted and find a new course in life.”
That’s actually my only real gripe with this movie.
Grace does some kind of “analysis” on Carter, but the scene skips right to her conclusions, when it would have been a lot more interesting to see how exactly she arrived at them.

“With Stay The Night, the question is: in an age where technology can reveal a person’s entire life, can two people form a connection without said technology?”
This reviewer must have missed the scene where sports-oblivious Grace googles Carter and discovers he is a relatively famous hockey player (he had been posing as a salesman).

'Stay the Night' Sees Two Strangers Tackling Tough Times Together [Exclusive]
‘Stay the Night’ Sees Two Strangers Tackling Tough Times Together [Exclusive]
The internet age has completely changed how dating works with hookups and dating apps reigning supreme. For the more reserved out there, that notion can be daunting as is the case for Andrea Bang‘s Grace in the upcoming rom-com Stay the Night. Feeling like an outcast in this frightening new dating landscape, she comes across a down-on-his-luck stranger, Carter Stone (Joe Scarpellino), who…

cw: sexual assault/harassment
I'm not sure where to even begin, but I know that now is the time to share my story. It is important for me to no longer give my aggressor anymore power over me. To no longer let this awful singular moment to dictate my life. In the past I thought by sharing my truth about what happened would be enough to protect others and bring awareness to the true character of Joe Scarpellino. I hoped that people would stop supporting the person who violated me and had no respect for my personal boundaries. Sadly I discovered that most people are not inclined to cut times with a person that holds so much public attention within his music community without great social pressure to do so. This is why I have decided to post this with the support of my friends and family.
About four years ago I went to a friend's album release show on literally one of the coldest nights in Minnesota history. I braved the weather and made it down to Minneapolis from Saint Cloud on my own to enjoy the night. As most shows I would go to, I'd meet up with friends and hang out. That night I ended up spending most of my time hanging out with Joe and his girlfriend, a rather well known couple of the Minneapolis music scene who I had been around many times before at different shows and festivals. We were having a good time and we decided to travel to the after party together where I eventually planned on staying for the night.
The house party wasn't coming to an end anytime soon and I was tired and ready to call it a night. They invited me back to their place to crash and I gratefully accepted as there was no other place for me to go. We got to their house and we all fell asleep in their bed. I later woke up to Joe kissing my neck and rubbing himself on my backside. I pretended to still be asleep hoping it would stop. This was not suppose to be happening. He started touching my breasts and putting his hands down my pants. I pulled his hands off of me and I said "please don't do that, I just want to sleep". I was paralyzed in fear and just laid there. For a moment there was nothing and then he continued to force himself onto me and I continued to say "no, don't do that please". Joe would not stop. The only thing I could think of was to say "I have to go to the bathroom". I got up and walked away. It was five in the morning. I had no car. It was literally deadly cold outside. I could not escape. I sat on the couch outside of their bedroom and waited until I could eventually leave.
The next morning the city was completely shut down. News reports said to stay indoors, off the roads and to expect major delays in public transportation. I knew I wasn't going anywhere any time soon. I had to pretend like I was not crawling out of my skin about everything that had taken place. I waited while Joe and his other roommates gathered in the living room. It was then that I was subjected to him talking very openly with everyone about how sexually frustrated he was by me and how he didn't get what he wanted. It was like he excepted sex from me just because I decided to spend the night. He proceeded to lay his head in my lap and rub his hand on my leg in front of everyone including his girlfriend who I couldn't even make eye contact with I was so embarrassed. Once again he was crossing my boundaries without any regard to my discomfort. I was absolutely humiliated and felt powerless to what was happening to me. All I could think about was how to get out. Sometime that afternoon a friend of the household had come over to visit and I was able to talk him into giving me a ride across town to the safety of my friend's house. To this day, I am still so incredibly grateful for that stranger's kindness. They will probably never know what they did for me.
Just because someone's asleep in your bed doesn't give you the right to have your way with them. Just because you are a well respected, influential individual of the local music community doesn't mean you can get away with what you did and pretend like it didn't happen.
I've learned that on the other side of fear is the shit you really want. I'm letting go of the fear of telling the truth to make room for all the good I deserve in my life. It gives me so much relief to no longer be just a number in a scary statistic about sexual assault, but an actual person who can stand up with all the other brave people coming out with stories like mine. #metoo has been a life changing movement for me and I hope anyone who maybe on the verge of coming out with their story too knows that I'm here for you, I love you and I believe you.
