The Jersey Devil is a pretty aggressively mid (at best) episode of The X-Files but Joe Napolitano really went way harder than he had any right to on the direction, you can see the guy desperately clawing to make the interminable chase sequences vaguely interesting through the use of light and shadow and really playing up the "industrial hellscape" vibes of Vancouver-as-New Jersey. Just goes to show that The X-Files really did get some top-notch directorial talent even before you get to big names like Nutter, Manners and Bowman.

Indeed what's most surprising is that Napolitano only got two episodes, the other being the phenomenal Darkness Falls at the opposite end of the season. Elevating an already great episode and trying to bring a lackluster one up to a higher quality through sheer force of will are, like, the two main prerequisites of an X-Files director, and he got them both down pat.

Starting things off Clark gives us a summary of what happened last issue and he mentions that the military took the Amazo robot back to Mt. Simonson and mentioned the defenses it has like the lead walls and the Cadmus Red Sun Omega Field. I talked a bit about Mt. Simonson's reference here, the lead wall's blocking out Superman's x-ray vision here, Red Sun being a weakness for Superman and Cadmus here, and the fact that the caption using the word Omega in the Red Sun Omega Field and the Kirby crackle in the panel here.

When our Daily Planet trio go to the base to figure out where the Amazo robot is Jimmy gets put on blast for his conspiracies about the things the military may or may not have or be doing. The latter two panels mention a turtle boy and Atlanteans from the Mariana Trench.

The first reference is a nod to Jimmy Olsen's time as the Giant Turtle Man. Giant kaiju turtle Jimmy Olsen makes his first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #53 (1961) [Cover art by Curt Swan] where Jimmy finds a treasure chest containing an enlarging ray that Jimmy accidentally triggers with a turtle nearby acting as a filter causing the ray to hit Jimmy creating the Giant Turtle Man as seen on the cover. Superman fixes this by using Brainiac's shrinking ray on Jimmy and Lori Lemaris who was once Superman's mermaid partner figures out Goxo, an Atlantean criminal who built the enlarging ray, was involved in all this. MAwS Jimmy also mentions mermaids and I talked more about the only Superman related mermaid, Lori Lemaris here.

Jimmy mentioning mutated Atlanteans from the Mariana Trench brings to mind the Trench from the Aquaman comics. This underwater civilization that was once part of the Atlantis kingdom and when Atlantis sunk to the ocean, the Trench adapted to their underwater environment to be more like the deep sea creatures who live deep down the depths of the ocean floor. The Trench make their first appearance in Aquaman #1 (2011) [W: Geoff Johns, P: Ivan Reis, I: Joe Prado, C: Rod Reis, L: Nick J. Napolitano] where they were seen surfacing back up from the ocean floor. You might also have seen them in the first Aquaman movie where Arthur and Mera are on a boat in the stormy seas and the Trench swarm and attack their boat.

Later on as Jimmy gets escorted to the visitors area, we see Robert and Slade have a dick measuring contest and Slade mentions Team Seven. I talk more about Robert's comic book counterpart here btw.

Team Seven makes its first appearance as Team 7 under the legendary Jim Lee's former comic imprint, Wildstorm in Gen 13 #4 (1994) [W: Jim Lee, Brandon Choi, J. Scott Campbell, P: J. Scott Campbell, I: Alex Garner, Sandra Hope, C: Wendy Broome, Wildstorm FX, L: Richard Starkings, Comicraft]. In the double page spread, John Lynch explains the history of the Team 7 which he was a part of, telling the Gen 13 kids, that their fathers who were all part of Team 7 was exposed to the Gen Factor to give them superpowers thanks to International Operations who now want to control the Gen 13 kids.

When Wildstorm and their characters were absorbed into DC, they became part of the DC universe and during the New 52 reboot Team 7 was reintroduced again with some familiar faces from the DC universe joining the team.

This iteration of Team 7 made its first debut in Team 7 #0 (2012) [Cover art by Ken Lashley and Nathan Eyring], where the team was composed of former Wildstorm Team 7 members, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash aka Grifter, and James Bronson aka Majestic, DC familiars Amanda Waller, Dinah Drake II (the second Black Canary and daughter of the first Black Canary aka Dinah Drake I), Steve Trevor, and Slade Wilson and then-new to the New 52 universe characters Dean Higgins, Kurt Lance (who eventually marries Dinah Drake II), and Summer Ramos.

This iteration of Team 7 is a government affiliated team that is used to stop metahuman threats.

Later in the issue we meet Dr. Killgrave who, along with his team, are doing experiments on the Amazo robot.

Thaddeus Killgrave makes his first appearance in Superman #19 (1988) [Cover art by Jerry Ordway]. In the comics Professor Killgrave was a mad scientist who helped build anti-Superman tech sometimes even selling them to other villains. He also worked for Intergang before Superman was able to stop them all together.

Retired U.S. Army colonel claims he has reliable sources who say a top CENTCOM official delivered that very message to the Israeli leader

U.S. Central Command Chief Michael Kurilla warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington will not “be with him” if he provokes all-out wars with Hezbollah or Iran, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson (ret.) told Judge Andrew Napolitano’s podcast, citing unnamed sources.

Wilkerson said these sources are reliable and that Kurilla delivered the warning during recent trips to Israel.

The Trends Journal reached out to the State Department, CENTCOM, and the Pentagon for comment but did not receive an immediate response. The U.S.’s official position has been that it will continue to defend Israel against regional threats. U.S. President Joe Biden has vowed to defend Israel against regional threats.

Wilkerson was asked about Israel’s recent provocations in the region, and he said he believes Netanyahu is hoping to pull the U.S. into war with Iran and Hezbollah in hopes that either one retaliates in a way that would compel the U.S. and other Western countries to join the fight, he said.

Wilkerson, citing his sources, said the Kurilla made it clear to Netanyahu that Washington would "know” if Israel provokes a wider war.

CENTCOM said in an earlier statement that Kurilla was in Israel earlier this month to meet with top Israeli defense officials to discuss “common threats.”

They “focused on operational and strategic security challenges, regional cooperation, and efforts to bolster deterrence and counter threats in the Middle East,” according to the statement. (The statement did not mention a meeting with Netanyahu. Wilkerson did not indicate if Kurilla used intermediaries to deliver the message to the Israeli leader.)

Napolitano interjected: Is this speculation on your part, or is it based on sources?

Wilkerson said his analysis is based on “pretty reliable sources.”

But he told Napolitano that the bigger picture is that Biden is finally listening to the Pentagon about these war assessments, which, according to his sources, is why Biden was seething during a recent visit by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington. He said Biden was just informed by the Pentagon that it would be a mistake to allow Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia with Western-provided missiles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the approval would mean war with NATO.

At the beginning of the 2004 Democratic Party presidential primaries, it seemed that Massachusetts Governor and son of former President Robert Kennedy, Joe Kennedy II, would easily win nomination. However, Vermont Governor Howard Dean emerged from nowhere with a slashing, populist political persona very different from his reputation as a moderate in his own state. After an upset win in New Hampshire, Dean built enough momentum to secure the nomination by April. He promised to end the War in Iraq, resolve tensions with Iran, and pursue arms control treaties with the USER and China while restoring New Renaissance-era funding for the arts and sciences and further expanding Medicare. Dean chose rival for the nomination Janet Napolitano as his running mate, and the two went on to be defeated in a close election against incumbent John McCain.

Mark from Luv Foundation (UK) goes on to say "I remember going to TRADE back in 1995, I was only 16 years old and heard this track played by the legendary late TONY DE VIT in his set, I remember going into the record exchange shop in Soho and grabbing a compilation album called FLYING HIGH where the track was featured, it has been a huge part of my life and DJ sets and I regularly use the Original for GYM sets and cardio sets to this day".

'DANCE (U GOTTA)' is a rework of the BOOTLEGBOYS aka Keith Mac and Matt Clayden originally named 'EURO FRIENDLY' the A side on the vinyl and was released on Labello Dance a label that bought us legendary anthems 99th Floor Elevators 'HOOKED' and Funkydory 'GOOD TIMES' to name a few. It would be no surprise that Mark would reach out to Keith Mac and ask if we could rework this underground 1994 classic, with permission to add a new vocal around the hook line of the Original.

Ashley teaming up once more with Lucas Marx have added a new verse around the hook line and we have to say they capture something pretty amazing around the hook line, which will captivate you instantly. 'DANCE (U GOTTA)' had it's first worldwide premier on the 7th June with Christian Homan's Twilight show on RTE Pulse and will be on full promo sometime in July with remixes forthcoming by Italian legendary DJ Joe T Vannelli, Jamie Hughes Lizzie Curious and Bexxie.

The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to privacy. Like other amendments in the Bill of Rights, it doesn’t create the right; it limits government interference with it.

Shortly before he announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, President Joe Biden misquoted the late Justice Antonin Scalia suggesting that Justice Scalia believed that the Bill of Rights creates rights. As Justice Scalia wrote, reflecting his view on the origins of all personal liberty, the Bill of Rights secures rights, it doesn’t create them; it protects them from the government.

Those who drafted the Bill of Rights recognized that human rights are pre-political. They precede the existence of the government. They come from our humanity.

The idea that rights come from our humanity is the essence of Natural Law theory, which was first articulated by Aristotle in 360 B.C. The natural law teaches that right and wrong are discoverable by the exercise of reason and there are areas of human behavior — the exercise of rights — that are immune from government interference. Aristotle’s views would later be refined by Cicero, codified by St. Thomas Aquinas, explained by John Locke, woven into Anglo-American jurisprudence by British and American jurists, and immortalized in the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson.
