How Prompting Works

Between today, January 30, and February 13, you can leave prompts on AO3! Any ideas for rare or gen works can be left here for creators’ inspiration.

We will have catch-all prompts, for those who want to keep their ideas secret (instead of posting and claiming their own prompt) or for fanartists, vidders, podficcers, etc. who wants to create work for this fest that’s based off of an existing work. They will be posted after prompting closes so they are at the top.

Prompts featuring any non David/Patrick romantic relationship, whether they are canon or not-canon, or any non-romantic relationship, whether they are canon or non-canon, are welcome!

We ask that your work not be centered around the David/Patrick relationship. While it can be in the work as a background element—of course David or Patrick may talk to a friend or family member about their relationship!—we ask that your work be centered around their relationships with others. For example, what do Patrick and Stevie enjoy doing that David hates? What does a shopping spree between David and Alexis look like? Do Johnny and Patrick ever watch another baseball game together? If you have any questions about the intentions of this fest as it pertains to David/Patrick, we are happy to share more of our thoughts!

To give everyone a fair chance at claims, we will be removing claims made earlier than February 13. We will announce on Tumblr when claiming is officially open!

“I don’t know what’s going on,” he exclaimed.

Stevie moved his hand away from his arm. “Don’t scratch it.”

“But it itches!”

Stevie sighed. “Have you touched any poisonous plants?”

“No,” David replied while subtly trying to reach his arm.

“Eaten anything?”

“Just those handpies that Jocelyn made for Abestos Fest.”

Stevie glanced at the half-eaten pie on the counter. “Are you allergic to peaches?”

“I don’t think so. It was a bit tingly when I ate it though.”

“It shouldn’t tingle!”

i’ve written a little bit, but been away from here. so here’s a big ol’ paragraph. and a thank you to @petrodobreva for being the one to mention including Roland in these shenanigans.

"Hey, Dave, what's with the dog?"

David grimaced as he turned to face Roland. "I adopted him, his name is-"

"His name is David," Stevie interrupted, eyes alight with glee. David glared at her. 

Roland leaned down to pet Rothko. "Well, hi there David."

"I didn't name him David, that would be too confusing."

"What's so confusing about that?"

David crossed his arms. "Because my name is David!"

Roland stood up. "I mean we call you Dave so it isn't all that confusing."

David didn't bother looking at Stevie knowing all too well how much she was enjoying this conversation. He decided it was best to finish the conversation as soon as possible. "You're the only one who does that."

"Sounds like now's a good time for everybody else to start doing that since you named your dog David."

David threw his head back in exasperation. "It was an accident on the form. His name is Rothko."

"Oh, like Mark Rothko?"

A fucking course Roland was the one to know that. 

He sighed in relief. "Yes."

"Then why didn't you put that on the form?"

David was in hell. "I got it switched around with the owner's name."

"Does that mean your name is Rothko now?" Stevie interjected. 

He grabbed Stevie's wrist and guided her away from Roland. "As fun as this conversation has been, we need to leave."

The whole group turns to look at them then and David can see the moment the accountant –as he is calling him in his head, because ‘very nice ass’ somehow sounds worse– looks at David and their gazes meet. David’s stomach plummets to the ground at the immediate change in his demeanor. The man goes from relaxed and carefree to tense and annoyed? –Is it annoyance what David sees in his face?– in the span of two seconds. He drops the arm he has over the cute redhead’s shoulders and looks at the floor.

Pride Month 2024 #1

Summary: Cameron has had a crush on you

Warnings: Trans-typical stuff. (Let me know if I need to add any)

(A/N: I did a version of this with Modern Family, where the reader is the nonbinary kid of Jay. When I watched Schitt's Creek, I found myself really gravitating towards the idea of writing something where the reader is Jocelyn and Roland's kid, and since I'm trans I thought a lot about how they'd be with a trans/nonbinary kid. So, I finally started working on this idea for Pride Month!)

Roland and Jocelyn’s support of you knows no bounds.

When you come out as trans, it’s no different.

They are on board with it immediately.

If you’re particularly nervous about coming out, they will both assure you that they love you so much and that all they want is for you to be yourself and happy.

Jocelyn will bake you one of those pride flag cakes to show her support.

And, if you’re ready to be out to the rest of the town, Roland will go on and on to anyone who will listen about how proud he is of his kid/son/daughter (whichever you prefer!)

Ronnie, happy for you as she may be, tires of hearing about it pretty quickly.

Early on, they’re very much the embodiment of ‘he a little confused, but he got the spirit’.

Roland has 100% said “his/her pronouns are they/them!” (or the applicable equivalent that best suits you).

Jocelyn will keep telling you that she thinks that Elliot Page is handsome.

And, one time, she asks you if you want to watch the Danish Girl with her (which you probably won’t, but if you are that way inclined go ahead and it will make her week).

They’re always well-meaning, no matter what they do or say.

If you come out around the time that the Roses move to the town, I can see Roland and Jocelyn both discreetly asking David for advice about you as the young queer person that they know (regardless of whether or not you’re an adult). 

David will either give them a pretty broad answer that is applicable to most trans people, or tell them to speak to you themselves (in the nicest possible way, for David at least).

Roland will try to bond with Johnny over the both of them being the fathers of queer kids.

When Pride Month rolls around, your parents will write you out a card and put some money in it like it’s your birthday.

I can see them waking you up on 1st June with party horns and party poppers, again like it’s your birthday (unless 1st June is your birthday, in which case they’ll eagerly celebrate both).

If you decide to transition medically, Roland will offer to drive you to every appointment you have to attend.

If you end up getting any surgeries, both of your parents will insist on contributing whatever money they can, and they will want to help take care of you when you’re recovering.

If you’re nonbinary, Roland always (very proudly) introduces you to people as his ‘nonbinary kid’.

Roland has a trans and/or nonbinary pride flag bumper sticker on his truck.

And, Jocelyn has a pride flag displayed somewhere in her classroom.

Basically, they’re so supportive that it borders on excessive.

But, they love you, trans or not.

After all, you're their kid.

Let's celebrate the cold, snowy weather and assorted holidays that bring joy to the long, dark Canadian wintertime. Join us for our third year!

Frozen Over is a prompt fest (not an exchange) for Schitt’s Creek fanworks inspired by that time of year when the creek is frozen over. All types of AO3-supported fanworks are welcome! Create prompts, claim prompts, and have fun!

Summary: Alexis’ new city never sleeps, so she doesn’t, either, and replacing a dream with distractions couldn’t be easier.

Rec [written by doingthemost]: This is an angsty delight! Short and bittersweet, this fic looks at Alexis' adjustment period to New York and the regrets she's collected along the way regarding a certain café waitress. It's a sad, realistic, painful look at how relationships can change with time.

Summary: The last time she had sex was the night Patrick left town — she’d gone out and gotten far too drunk and woke up the next morning in a stranger’s bed hating herself. This feels different, more deliberate; she’s pretty sure there are worse ways to kick-start getting over her ex-fiancé than a one night fling with a hot lumberjack-looking guy she’ll never see again.

Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: Am I biased because this is a podfic of my fic? Yes. Am I biased because this was a birthday present for me? Also yes. Will I apologise? Absolutely not. It’s a phenomenally crafted podfic and everyone should give it a listen!

Summary: It hurts like absolute hell, knowing that she has spent at least a decade loving someone who could never love her back. Knowing that she has spent long, drunken nights alone in her apartment wondering when the hell everything would fall back into place. Knowing that she is going to have to travel home alone and come to terms with the fact that the future she thought she had all figured out is actually never going to come to fruition.

Rec [written by yourbuttervoicedbeau]: I’m a sucker for Rachel, I’m a sucker for post-Barbecue fics, I’m a sucker for this fic specifically. It’s beautifully, carefully written, full of pain and honesty and hope.

It’s just the touch awkward, while being sympathetic, and you know Stevie and Rachel both felt better after it. It’s short and sweet and worth a read.

The whole group turns to look at them then and David can see the moment the accountant –as he is calling him in his head, because ‘very nice ass’ somehow sounds worse– looks at David and their gazes meet. David’s stomach plummets to the ground at the immediate change in his demeanor. The man goes from relaxed and carefree to tense and annoyed? –Is it annoyance what David sees in his face?– in the span of two seconds. He drops the arm he has over the cute redhead’s shoulders and looks at the floor.
