Summary: As soon as you get word that Jon is the new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, you ride to Castle Black to see if he'll be willing to bend some rules for you.

A/N: Whaaat? Me writing something other than Supernatural? Am I sick? Haha, no, but seriously, I just finished up Game of Thrones (a few years late, I know), but that's besides the point. There's a scene where Jon is Lord Commander and he's in his office and I just got to thinking, "Damn, I'd really like him to fuck me up against that wall." And so, here we are. This was actually incredibly difficult to write; medieval smut dialogue isn't really easy to imagine, so please be nice to me. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy! (Also, huge shout out to @deangirl93 for helping me brainstorm said medieval smut dialogue!)

MAIN MASTERLIST

The cold wind bit at your face as you made your way to Castle Black. It was the earliest sign that winter wasn’t only coming; it was right around the corner. You had been riding from Winterfell, a few weeks journey, and you only had a few more hours left to go. As soon as you got word of Jon becoming Lord Commander, you knew you had to come see him. Maybe things would be different now; maybe you would be able to bend some rules. When you had said goodbye to Jon a few years ago, it was understood that you very well might not ever see him again. “You know I won’t be able to marry. I won’t be able to father children,” he had said to you when you told him that joining the Night’s Watch didn’t necessarily mean that it had to be the end between you two. “I don’t care. I love you, Jon Snow,” you had replied, as you begged him to understand. You knew why he felt like he needed to go; he was a bastard, to everyone else. He was nothing. He had no other place or purpose, than at the wall. You thought differently. He was everything to you.

You were freezing by the time you rode up to the gates at Castle Black. You couldn’t feel your face or hands, and you only hoped that the men wouldn’t give you too much trouble. They probably had no clue who you were, even though you and Jon had kept somewhat in touch since his leaving, sending ravens back and forth, you doubted that he ever uttered a word about you. “I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children”, was how part of the Night’s Watch oath went, and knowing Jon, you knew he took it seriously. However, you believed that it was a pretty vague oath. You didn’t have to marry Jon, you didn’t have to bear his children – you weren’t asking for any of that. You just wanted to be with him, in whatever capacity you could. Even if it was just for a little while. The gates opened slowly and a few men approached you cautiously.

“Can we help you, m’lady?”

“I am here to see the Lord Commander, Jon Snow,” you replied sweetly, charming them with a smile from atop your horse.

“On what business?”

You frowned. “Is the Lord Commander here?”

“Who is asking?” The man persisted.

You sighed as you peered through the open gates, catching a glimpse of the man who you were here to see.

“Jo – Lord Snow!” You yelled, taking your chance. You saw him look up at you from where he was coming down the stairs. The men who had opened the gates looked back at their Lord Commander nervously, as if they were about to be in trouble for letting you catch a glimpse of him.

“Let her in!” Jon commanded, racing to the gate now. The men stepped aside and you rode through.

You took Jon’s hand as he helped you off your horse, staring at you with a mix of wonder and confusion in his eyes. “Why did you come here, Lady Y/L/N?” He asked gently, knowing better than to refer to you informally in front of the Watch.

“To see you,” you replied simply. Jon looked from side to side as he noticed men gathering around the two of you and quickly dropped your hand.

“Is there something I can help you all with!?” He barked. The men quickly dispersed. He turned his attention back to you. “Follow me.”

“Fancy office you got,” you teased, running your fingers over the fireplace mantle. Jon was sat at his desk staring at you silently. You couldn’t tell if he was happy or angry to see you; but either made for great sex, so you didn’t care.

“What are you doing here, Y/N?” Jon asked, seriousness in his tone.

“You’re Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch,” you replied.

“I am.”

“I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children,” you recited a small part of the oath to him.

He sighed. “The rules don’t change because I am Lord Commander now.”

“I didn’t say they did,” you snipped, making your way over to him. You stood in front of him and leaned against the desk, taking his hands in yours. “Jon… I am not asking to be your wife. I am not asking you to father my children. But I am here now and there is nothing in that oath that says you can’t fuck me up against that wall,” you stated, tilting your head towards the stone wall next to the fire place. “And you are Lord Commander now… no one will challenge you.”

Jon closed his eyes and took a deep breath, no doubt gathering the remaining self-control he had left. “You rode all this way so I could fuck you up against that wall?” He asked, an eyebrow cocked, the huskiness in his voice sending pulses straight to your core.

“And what if I did?” You asked, hopping atop the desk.

“Then it wasn’t a very smart decision,” he said, standing up from his chair. You spread your legs instinctively, allowing him to stand between them.

“And why is that?” You whispered as you looked up at him. Jon bore his eyes into yours, letting you know that he was serious. You let out a frustrated sigh. “If you’re angry with me, Lord Snow, by all means, say it.”

“I am angry with you, Y/N. I told you not to come here. It’s a few weeks journey from Winterfell, and you made it alone!” He scolded, his voice stern, but low, as he continued to stare into your eyes.

“Forgive me, then, for wanting to see you!” You hissed, attempting to push him out of your way so you could hop off the desk, but he didn’t budge.

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t fulfill your request, Lady Y/L/N. You’re already here, I might as well give you what you came for,” he said breathily as his hand began to inch under your dress and up your leg. Your breath hitched in your throat as his hand made it to your thigh. You had layers on underneath to save you from the cold from outside, but it was as if you could feel him touching your bare skin anyway. You hadn’t let a man touch you since Jon had left for the Watch. He continued to slowly snake his hand up your leg until he made it to your core, keeping it there, over your layers, but not moving it.

“Jon,” you breathed, as you attempted to grind into his hand, your hands coming up to grip around his neck. He smirked and began using his free hand to untie the front of your dress, slowly pulling apart the laces. You had never wanted it to be warmer in your life, solely because you were becoming irritated by all the layers of clothing that were separating the two of you from one another. You struggled to take off Jon’s clothing, always another buckle to undo or tie to untie. Both of his hands had moved to working on your undergarments by the time you got his first layer off, but somehow through a blur of pulling and tearing at fabric, the both of you had managed to shed your clothes in a matter of minutes. Jon’s lips crashed into yours, his kiss hungry and demanding. You placed your arms around his neck once more, your legs coming to wrap around his waist as he lifted you up off the desk by your ass. The kiss didn’t break as he walked you over to the wall that you had mentioned earlier; you could feel the heat from the nearby fire warming your bare skin as your back came into contact with the cold rock. Jon set you back down on your feet, his lips finally leaving yours to trail kisses down your jaw, neck, and collarbone. His rough fingers came to pinch one of your hardened nipples, rolling it between his thumb and index finger, drawing a moan from your throat. Favorite thing about them: On one hand, i can respect the fact that she wants to marry her daughters with financially well provided man, so they can have a guaranted good future.

Least favorite thing about them: On the other hand, that motivation doesn’t justify the exploitation of her stepdaughter’s work and the psychological (and sometimes physical) abuse that she tends to put her daughters trough in the name of being perceived as “perfect”.

Random Headcanon: She was born in an aristocratic family, and her first husband, father of her daughters, was also an aristocrat, and she actually liked him. Sayed first husband died very young, her family went financially broke because her father got gambling debts, and she was forced to marry Cinderella’s father, who was a rich merchant, but with no aristocratic blood. It was a marriage of convenience for both: he would gain aristocratic family connections, and she would be financially secure. Paranoid that the aristocratic society looked at her with contempt for marrying a merchant with no noble lineage, her determination to marry her daughters with the Prince or at least another rich aristocrat is a question of regaining the lost family honour and pride for her.

Unpopular Opinion: Unlike with her daughters, who usually are portrayed as also being victims of her abuse, i don’t think the Stepmother can be redeemed. You may write a character study of her, analyzing the place where she comes from, but this will probably make her intimidation even worse, because the kind of abuse that she perpetrates is something that feels very grounded in real life, and (hopefully) we wouldn’t simpathize with someone like her if we met them.

Summary: After being pulled out of hell Dean realizes quickly that the four months he had been gone made way for a lot of changes in the lives of everyone he knows, including the life he had known for himself before he died. Nobody was treating him the same, and there was seriously something going on with his brother that he could not figure out. He was spending most of his time alone nowadays, not really hunting anymore since Bobby and Sam were against it for him, and spending most of his time drinking instead to try and forget. He was angry, pretty much all the time. That anger really worked in his favour though when walking back to the impala he came across a freaking hoard of demons getting ready to attack some blond chick. He didn't know who she was or what the hell all the demons wanted with her, but there was no way he could just walk away. Maybe if he had any idea what trying to save this person was going to lead too he would have just walked away, maybe if he had actually given any thought to the situation before him he wouldn't have put himself in the middle of it, but even before hell he made impulsive and rash decisions... so maybe not.

Izzy watched the other actually curious for a moment to see if he would finally catch what he said. Aaaand, there it was! He had to give the hunter some props, he was taking the fact that he mistaked Izzy for a girl better than he could remember anyone else had. Demons especially hated him for it. Not for the same reasons that humans seemed too, most demons really didn't care what your fucking gender was as they body hopped so often, what they didn't like was that someone so small, sweet, and innocent looking was actually a deadly assassin sent by a prince of hell. And worse, he was good at it. Izzy looked away from him again and back at the book he was holding when Dean started to talk, crossing one leg over the other as he started to look through the book. "If the idiots would just abandon their stupid plans of trying to break Lucifer from the cage I would just leave them alone," Izzy muttered as most of his attention was back to the book in his hands, not realizing he even said it out loud or knowing if Dean had heard about what this specific group of hellions were planning. "I wouldn't count too much on actually finding one, I've only ever found info on one and I can't find that fucker for the life of me. I've never not found a mark before him, it was actually really frustrating…" he said, talking more naturally and easily than he had before with most of his attention focused on something else. He could feel his heart racing as he read through the pages. The first few were just about Cain. How he had become a demon. That was actually interesting even if none of what he was learning would help him track the mother fucker. Cain was the only demon specifically named though. After the chapter on him, the book went on to explain how because of him it had become possible for a human to turn. And what had to happen to said human for something like that to happen and Izzy found that for the first time that he could remember, he was grateful for something. He was really fucking grateful that he couldn't remember being human. Because this shit sucked.

Dean relaxed his shoulders when the other didn’t point out how obviously awkward his mistake was. It must have happened quite a bit and it was obvious as to why. Though he didn’t dwell on it for too long after catching Izzy mutter under his breath. So Izzy knew about Lucifer and over half of Hell’s plans to free him. Not too many hunters really knew what was going on, just that demons had been kicking up a shit storm lately. He crossed his arms over his chest as he leaned against the table Izzy was sitting on. He raised a brow when Izzy said he’d only found one and he couldn’t track him. “A mark?” He asked, not following him. “Do you think they could make more demons like that? I have a feeling they’d be a bitch in a fight.”

"Not a mark, my marks. Whatever demon I'm hunting at the time," Dean really did get kind of lucky that Izzy had found this book if he wanted to ask questions. The lithe demon was only half paying attention to whatever he was saying, basically only enough to make sure he didn't let the fact that he was one of these demons slip out. "Though he does actually have a mark that turned him in the first place. Didn't know that." Izzy nodded without hesitation at the other males next question though, "Definitely. Seriously time consuming and difficult, but not impossible. Looks like when it does happen, it's usually an accident. And they are definitely totally awesome in a fight. Stronger than a knight of hell but not quite as strong as a prince. And not easy to kill. Our knives won't kill one of them." The book didn't actually tell him that last part, he knew it from experience back when Asmodues was first training him. He had kinda lost his temper at the pretty little blond and actually fucking stabbed him with the same knife he now had hidden in his boot. All it did to the blond was piss him off though. It ruined the dress he was wearing and had left a nasty little scar in his side where he had been stabbed. "So unless you’re Cain with his first blade or have that Colt and bullets that you killed Azazel with, or yanno, a crazy person like me, I would avoid looking for one of them." He took in a deep breath as he slammed the book shut, trying to not let it be seen how incredibly fucking furious he was right now. Well, at least he knew why Asmodues was so keen on him not knowing how he turned. "So uh, yeah. Thanks for the info. Great fucking room ya got here. But I gotta go find a certain prince and tear his fucking head off somehow," Izzy said, his voice showing he obviously was not happy with what he just read if his words didn't give that part away. He was caring less and less about whatever fucking cover he was supposed to be playing here. He couldn't fully remember right now what he had let on that he knew about the man in the room with him but he no longer really cared. He pushed himself down from the table and went to move past Dean, "Nice to meet ya and all that shit and like, thanks for the help…" he paused for a moment to look at the hunter again, fuck it. Dean gave him access to the information he so desperately wanted, he figured he could return the favour with some info that Dean probably actually needed, "By the way, you really should probably get your brother away from Ruby because bitch has him all fucked up, pretty sure that people shouldn't actually be drinking demon blood the way he is. Pretty fucked up. So yeah. Gotta go."

“Oh they sound great,” Dean said when Izzy confirmed that more could be made this way. “Oh yea, awesome,” He shot back when Izzy went on about them and described them that way and mentioned that the knives were worthless against them. The only good thing that was mentioned was that apparently they were only ever made on accident and there were no rumored army’s full of them. He had noticed the others snapping of the book and the anger rolling off of him, clearly having read something he didn’t like. “Oh yea that sounds like a feasible plan, how do you plan on getting in Hel-?” He was cut off by the other male thanking him for the help. “Wait.” He said, not wanting the other to run off and get killed while half cocked. He didn’t get a chance to say anything else because what Izzy said after that shut him right up. “Wait, what the hell are you talking about?” He asked, his voice showing his own rising anger. “And how the hell do you know who he’s with?” He asked him. This ment Izzy knew who they were before he ran into him tonight. He started reaching for his pistol in a back holster without thinking much about it. “Who are you?” He asked, taking a step back and raising the fire arm.

Izzy rolled his eyes as Dean called after him when he turned and started to walk to the bunkers exit. If he did leave here right now, he really would go straight to the youngest prince and try and kill the fucker somehow. "Oh come on Dean, you're pretty and reckless but I didn't peg you for being stupid. I hunt demons. Ruby is a fucking demon. And your brother is running around with her. Do I really need to connect all the dots for you?" He stopped for a moment when he heard the click of the firearm and rolled his eyes again. Really? First time he ever tried to actually help someone else out and they pulled a gun on him. Not that Dean's pistol would actually hurt him, but he had been serious when he mentioned he liked this jacket. He didn't feel like throwing it out because of a bullet hole after he managed to actually keep it through the ambush.

He turned around and crossed his arms over his chest. "I was after her. I really can't fucking stand her. Unfortunately for me, your junkie brother was in the way and I couldn't get close enough without having to kill him first, and since I don't kill humans that wasn't exactly an option." He waved his hand at the pistole pointed at him, looking more annoyed that Dean was pointing it at him than anything else, "But I swear to fuck if you pull that trigger that'll change real fucking fast as I will slit your fucking throat." He wasn't reaching for the knife though, he wasn't scared of the gun and wouldn't pull it unless Dean actually did attack him first. After all, he didn't know the bullet wouldn't hurt him, he would definitely be trying to kill him and Izzy didn't take well to that happening. Threats were usually whatever, a dime a dozen when you did what he did, but actually trying to do it was another thing completely. "Now do you wanna play this game with me too or do you mind if I go now?"

Dean narrowed his eyes when Izzy said he hunted demons. He didn’t say anything for a minute after Izzy said all that and threatened retaliation by cutting his throat. His jaw was tense but he eased the hammer back and lowered his gun. He didn’t like anything he had said. He just knew Izzy was keeping something from him but… he was telling the truth about his brother and Dean hated it. He kept his hard eyes on the blond as he put his gun back in his holster and he pulled out a small piece of paper from his back pocket and grabbed a forgotten pen on the table. He didn't say anything as he quickly jotted something down, folded it and handed it to him. “In case you do something stupid like take on a prince of hell and want back up,” he said, his voice was quiet and calm. His reboiling rage wasn’t aimed at the blond any more so he tried to keep it from exploding on him. He had seen what he could do with that knife of his.

The anger at the hunter seemed to dissipate when he withdrew his weapon and put it back in the holster. Smart move, because the little demon had been deadly fucking serious about retaliation if he tried to shoot him. When Dean handed him that paper and said that, Izzy couldn't stop the confused look that crossed his face. Seriously? We both just threatened to kill the other and Dean was offering to back him up again a second later? What the fuck went on in human fucking heads? He really didn't understand them at all. Especially this one. And this happened to be the first one he spent any length of time with. "Right. Not gonna happen, but thanks? The backup thing. The prince thing is totally happening." After nearly sixty years around Asmodeus, Izzy didn't hold any fear of him. The prince needed Izzy and they both knew it. Besides, that was a long time to spend with anyone, and since the prince had wanted Izzy a secret until he was ready he had been the one Izzy trained with most often before he started throwing demon chum his way to practice with. Izzy knew that mans every fucking move.

Der er så mange ting, jeg ikke ved om Grønland.

Det er et interessant land. Der er meget, jeg gerne vil opleve.

Jeg må håbe, det også er interessant for dem, der kigger på.

For 21 år siden forelskede jeg mig i Nukâka fra Uummannaq.

Og jeg forelskede mig i hendes hjemland, Grønland.

Nu rejser jeg gennem Grønland fra nord til syd, fra vest til øst -

- for at udforske dette enorme land -

- og møde de fantastiske mennesker,der bor og arbejder her.

Mit navn er Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Velkommen til min rejse gennem Kalaallit Nunaat.

Min rejse gennem Grønland.

Min rejse begynder i Nordgrønland.

For at komme derop skal jeg flyve fra København til Thule.

Thule er mest kendt for den amerikanske base, der ligger her.

Vi har fået en sjælden tllladelse til at filme på basen.

Jeg glæder mig til at se det.

Min første erindring om Grønland er i relation til min far.

Min far arbejdede på Thulebasen, da jeg var dreng.

Han fortalte ikke så meget om det.

Det eneste, jeg ved med sikkerhed, er, at han kunne drikke i fred.

Hej. Velkommen til Thule.

Hvordan var turen? - Perfekt. En smule forsinket...

Vi bliver modtaget af den øverstbefalende på basen -

- og "airmen", som soldater i det amerikanske luftvåben hedder.

Det er svært at se, hvor stor basen er.

Selve basen er ikke stor -

- men der er enheden omkring 20 km herfra.

- Det klarer I ikke til fods? - Nej, nej.

Om to dage skal vi til Qaanaaq, en af de nordligste byer i verden.

Er du den eneste, der har været her om vinteren?

Ja, indtil videre. - Det kan være brutalt, ikke?

Det virkede beroligende på mig. Det er mørkt døgnet rundt -

- så det var helt uvirkeligt at være udenfor.

Vi så nordlys, som vi kalder sydlys, fordi vi er nord for det.

Min far arbejdede her, da jeg var barn.

Han fortalte mig ikke noget om det.

Han havde bare amerikansk slik med hjem. Det var meget spændende.

Jeg glæder mig til at blive klog på, hvad de laver på basen.

Og jeg håber at finde ud af lidt mere om min fars tid her.

Det er lidt mærkeligt, for vi er jo i Grønland -

- og vi er lidt i USA.

Alt det her er hverken grønlandsk eller dansk.

Det er ligesom at sidde på et...

Du ved, man er ude at køre i USA og tjekker ind på et motel.

Det er den følelse.

Her i polarørkenen i Nordgrønland -

- blev Thulebasen anlagt af amerikanerne i 1951.

Thule har en vigtig placering midt mellem Washington og Moskva.

Herfra kan man overvåge hele det arktiske område.

Under den kolde krig holdt man udkig efter fjendtlige sovjetiske angreb -

- og her er stadig rester af vagttårne og missilbrønde.

-Dengang arbejdede der 12.000 mennesker på basen.

Missilanlæggene blev lukket ned i 60'erne.

I dag arbejder her cirka 600 grønlændere, amerikanere og danskere.

- Hvor længe har du været her? - Siden slutningen af juni.

- Så det er knap seks uger? - Seks uger. Hvor kom du fra?

Jeg var i Washlngton D.C. før dette. Her er der et noget andet tempo.

- Ja. Hvad er hovedmissionen? - Det er primært luftovervågning.

Og så overvåger vi rummet.

- Altså rumvæsnerne? - Ja.

- I kigger efter rumvæsner. - Ja...

Vi i holder øje med den internationale rumstation.

Dataene er ikke kun til gavn for USA, men også vores samarbejdspartnere.

Amerikanerne har lagt et tæt pakket program for mit besøg på basen.

- om overvågning af rummet og om sorte huller.

Den kan hæves, og hele fundamentet bevæger sig i en cirkel.

Vi følger de satellitter her, som er i dagligt kredsløb.

Så længe den er i synsfeltet, kan de se den.

Så følger de den, i den retning den måtte bevæge sig.

Men det er omkring 15 minutter.

For at Være helt ærlig har jeg aldrig set "Game of Thrones".

De amerikanske militærfolk er udstationeret på Thule i højst et år.

Mange danskere og grønlændere bliver her i årevis.

De servicerer basen. De er læger, brandmænd, sygeplejersker -

- håndværkere, kokke, rengøringsfolk og så videre.

Min far arbejdede her i 80'erne.

Jeg ved ikke, om det var to, fire, seks, otte år...

Han var væk hele tiden.

Han kom hjem med amerikansk sodavand. Dr. Pepper.

Jeg kunne ikke lide det, men det var alligevel spændende.

Og sådan nogle stlckers, man kunne sy på tøjet.

I star bare og hænger her tilfældigvis. Hej.

Hvem har været her længst?

Min fars hverdag var fyldt op med et helt klart program, der hed:

Jeg skal arbejde og nå at drikke det, jeg kan nå, inden jeg skal sove.

Han havde ikke meget fritid.

Folk griner af, at jeg siger det -

- men hvis du er hardcore alkoholiker, er det hårdt arbejde.

Det, som der var dengang...

For jeg tror ikke, min far var den eneste.

Han kunne lide flasken. Har man det mere?

Det var en tid, der var.

Da jeg kommer i 1995, er der stadig meget alkohol på arbejdspladsen.

Nogle af dem, der kommer tilbage, siger, at det er blevet kedeligt.

Der er ikke så meget fest og farver, som der var i gamle dage.

I dag er det en almindelig arbejdsplads.

Jeg aner ikke, hvad han lavede. Det var noget med lønninger.

Det kan jo have været... Var der en på Facebook, som mente, at han...?

Mange pegede på, at han sad hernede og lavede timesedler.

Der er min far sgu! For helvede, en flot fyr.

De skriver, om nogen kan huske Jørgen Oscar Fritzer Waldau.

"Skulle have været på Thule Air Base i 80'erne."

Fra 80'erne... Stop.

"Han var meget alkoholiseret, men han passede sit arbejde -

- og mødte til tiden.

Han medbragte små flasker, som han gemte i skuffen -

- sa kaffen tik en bedre smag." Det lyder som min far.

Han var ærekær omkring sit arbejde -

- men han kunne dæleme tage fra, når det kom til alkohol.

"Havde sprut med og spædede det i kaffen."

"En kollega tog hans kaffe og var nær gået i gulvet."

"Vi kunne høre, nar han ryddede op." Det klirrede.

I forhold til min far...

Han var jo meget fraværende i min barndom og min ungdom -

- så jeg nåede aldrig at lære ham at kende som voksen mand.

Det er virkelig sødt af jer -

- at I har gidet starte en hel Facebook-tråd -

- og finde billeder af ham, der klirrede med flaskerne.

Men han var god til sit arbejde. Det vil jeg godt lige holde fast i.

Thule låger 1200 km nord for polarcirklen -

- så om sommeren er der midnatssol.

Det er min sidste dag på basen.

Jeg bliver hentet tidligt af master sergeant April Farrar.

Jeg sov indtil kl. 3. Det er fint.

- Godt. Er du klar? - Hvad skal vi?

Thule ligger ikke kun interessant ud fra et strategisk synspunkt.

Det er også relevant ud fra et videnskabeligt -

- og tiltrækker forskere fra hele verden.

Lige nu er to taiwanske forskere i gang med at teste et teleskop.

- Hej. Nikolaj. - Goddag.

- Hvad bringer jer hertil? - Projektet.

Og det er?

Vi prøver at frembringe et billede af et sort hul.

Jeg ved ikke så meget om sorte huller. Hvorfor er det vigtigt?

Indtil nu har mennesket ikke set dem.

Vi tror, de er der? Det er en teori.

Ja, og med teknologien prøver vi at frembringe et billede af dem.

- Og det er så teleskopet? - Ja. Det måler 12 meter.

Vi har installeret en modtager derinde.

Forskerne håber at blive klogere på sorte huller og universets skabelse.

Hvor mange år har du lavet det her?

Jeg har arbejdet med det her i over 15 år.

Og på en skala fra 1 til 100, hvor spændende er det her så?

Mindst 90.

Jeg har set noget lignende, men på et filmset.

Det her er den ægte vare.

Er det jeres hightechkontorer?

Ikke hightech...

- Ma jeg se? - Ja. Det er ret vildt.

Der er et meget stort teleskop i Chile -

- og der er også et på Hawaii.

- Det er det, I prøver at gøre? - Her er det grønlandske teleskop.

Det er Hawaii-teleskopet.

Det er ALMA-teleskopet i Chile.

Når I bruger alle tre, så gør omfanget jer i stand til...

Vi forvandler kloden til ét stort teleskop.

Jeg tror nok, jeg forstår det.

I kan få billeder med så stor en opløsning, at I kan se det -

- I håber på at se.

I en perfekt verden, hvornår kommer de første data så ind?

Inden for to år.

Jeg skal også besøge den forladte by Dundas, som er det oprindelige Thule.

Dundas ligger der, hvor de første mennesker for 4000 år siden -

- kom over isen fra Canada og bosatte sig.

Her anlagde Knud Rasmussen i 1910 sin handelsstation -

- som blev udgangspunkt for hans polarekspeditioner.

Herovre var Knud Rasmussens hus.

Amerikanerne har overladt mig til deres danske kollega Jens Alsing.

Jens har været i Thule i to år.

Det er en flot sten. Når man er herovre om vinteren -

- har man en kost med, så man lige kan...

Mange siger, at vi har gjort ham til en romantisk helt -

- men når man tænker på ekspeditionerne...

Udholdenheden og den der ufattelige drift -

- de har haft ti| polarforskningen...

Dundas ligger i dag øde hen -

- fordi Thulebasen i 1953 skulle udvides.

Den danske stat gav familierne få dages varsel til at forsvinde.

Der er masser, der stadig er i live, som er født her.

Mange kommer stadig til Dundas for at se til gravstederne.

Jeg har hørt, at det var ret hurtigt. Tre dage til at flytte og pakke.

Det sidste, jeg har lært om Thule, var, at det var en dansk beslutning.

Det er et brutalt stykke historie, selv set i det lys, der var.

Den kolde krig. Der skulle tages en beslutning -

- men man kan da ikke gøre sådan ved mennesker.

Næste mal er Qaanaaq, men først har jeg et lille mellemværende.

Min far kom hjem med noget, der var meget eksotisk.

En softballhandske.

Men jeg bliver nødt til at levere den tilbage nu -

- forjeg tror, han kom til at låne den.

Der står "Thule Base gym".

Mon ikke den hører til her?

Han ville give mig en gave. Så jeg fik den her baseballhandske.

Det er på tide at levere den tilbage.

Jeg har haft stor glæde af den de sidste 38 år.

Nu haber jeg, at nogen heroppe vil bruge den.

Tak. Som kaptajn for den 4. støtteeskadrille -

- tager jeg ydmygt imod gaven, som din far lånte.

Det, som Jeg bliver sa glad for, er jo -

- at ja, basen er en del af det store missilskjold -

- men det er også et sted, hvor man forsker i fremtiden.

Det har stor betydning for os alle -

- og det er unikt, at det er lige her i Grønland.

Nu skal vi med helikopter til Qaanaaq. Det tager cirka 40 minutter.

Jeg skal bede jer gå ud at vente.

Infrastruktur i Grønland er ikke som andre steder.

Her flyves og sejles der, og vejret spiller med -

- fordi den der store klump is påvirker det.

Er alle om bord? Fire og to. Skulle I ikke være syv?

- Vi mangler ham. Han står og filmer. - Super. God fornøjelse.

700 meter i sigt deroppe. Det er for lidt.

Tåge har ramt Qaanaaq. Helikopteren har forbud mod at flyve.

- Velkommen til Thule! - Velkommen!

- Velkommen tilbage. - I har savnet os.

Vejret er en meget stor del, som hele tiden sætter begrænsninger.

Det skifter hurtigt.

Det var klart i morges, men nu er der tyk tåge i Qaanaaq.

Vi har en opdatering på flyveturen.

Hvis de ikke kan flyve i dag, kommer de ikke af sted i weekenden.

Så skal I blive her.

- Har I nogen spørgsmål? - Jeg tror, hun har.

- Var der ikke mulighed for at komme af sted i morgen?

Hvis de aflyser i dag, er det aflyst hele weekenden -

- fordi vejret forventes at blive værre.

Er den eneste vej væk herfra den rute -

- vi skulle tage til Qaanaaq og så længere ned?

Der er ikke andre ruter. Det er begrænset, hvad her lander.

Den næstetur går tilbage til Baltimore.

Og det er først i næste uge.

Vi kommer til at skulle ændre vores plan flere gange -

- fordi der vil være ting, der ikke kan lade sig gøre.

Men så tager man jo de muligheder, der kommer.

Hvor lang tid tager det at sejle til Qaanaaq i en god jolle?

Fem-seks timer.

Det bliver ikke storm, vel? Det er bare tåget.

Vores bedste chance for at sejle er, at vi kontakter nogen fra Qaanaaq?

De har været utrolig hjælpsomme og gæstfri -

- og jeg har lært enormt meget om, hvad Thule Air Base er.

Og det største for mig er jo bare at møde en masse mennesker.

Så skal vi til Qaanaaq.

Der var en befolkning, som blev rykket, fordi basen skulle udvides.

Jeg glæder mig til at se, hvad det er for et samfund.

Klokken er halv to.

At komme her ved totiden Det er stadig helt lyst.

Det er helt magisk.

Qaanaaq er en af verdens nordligste byer.

Den blev anlagt i 1953 af de familier -

- der blev tvunget væk fra Dundas, da Thulebasen skulle udvides.

Her skal jeg i morgen møde Peter, min svoger, som flyver op fra Nuuk.

Det er virkelig en anden verden end Thule Air Base.

Der blev taget mange selfies. Det tror jeg ikke, vi kommer til her.

Vi er jo helt... Næste stop den vej er jo Canada.

Det er bare noget andet. Nu skal vi finde ud af, hvad det er.

Jeg er nysgerrig på at møde nogle mennesker.

Man tænker, at nu skal man lige over og klappe den søde hund.

Vi ser ikke hinanden så meget. Jeg bor heroppe.

Familien bor i Sydgrønland.

Hvorfor er nogle uden for byen og nogle inde? Er det tilfældigt?

- Kælehund. - Det er en kælehund?

Jeg vidste ikke, om man kunne sige hej -

Nej. Man tør jo ikke gå til en bundet... en rigtig slædehund.

- Der skal man være lidt... - Ja.

Jeg har prøvet det. Jeg blev overfaldet af 31 hunde.

- 31 hunde? - Ja. Jeg var 26 år.

Jeg gled på vej hjem og faldt ned. Hundene var sultne.

Vi havde kun frossent kød med. Det skal hugges. Mad til hundene.

- Og du var dejlig varm. - Det troede de.

Jeg er opkaldt efter min moster, Birthe.

Hun var ni år, da hun blev ædt af hundene.

På vej til skole fra gamle Thule. Jeg er opkaldt efter hende.

Det viser sig, at Birthe er gift med Hans, der driver byens eneste hotel.

Jeg har jo lidt strandede gæster, der venter på at komme af sted i dag.

- Så kan det være, vi far en plads? - Måske. Der skal lige komme et fly.

Halløj. Har I alle sammen været strandet her?

Vi er alle sammen strandet her i et par dage.

Kun fire dage.

Vi siger, at vi maske kommer tilbage i aften. Måske i morgen.

- Er Hans en god vært? - I allerhøjeste grad.

Det er verdens nordligste og dejligste og bedste hotel.

- Absolut. - Det er god reklame, du fik der.

- Kommer I fra det samme sted? - Nej, det gør vi ikke.

Jeg kommer fra byernes by.

- Byernes by? - Det er Sisimiut.

- Er I enige i, at det er byernes by? - Han er jo chefen, så selvfølgelig.

- Undskyld forstyrrelsen. - Det gør ikke noget.

- Du er født her? - Jeg er født i Dundas.

I Dundas? Hvor vi var. Der var vi nemlig i går.

Helt bogstaveligt blev man simpelthen sparket ud?

- Var der gjort huse klar her? - Nej. Ingenting.

Folk boede i telte, da de flyttede hertil.

Husene skulle jo først bygges om sommeren.

- Hvad tid på året blev I flyttet? - Forår. April, maj måned.

Skibet kom med byggematerialer i august måned.

Og husene skulle først bygges.

- Det første hus blev færdigt i december måned.

Folk ventede på, at husene blev færdige, mens de boede i telte.

Forestil dig far, mor og børn i et telt om vinteren.

I 20 graders kulde. Det kan jeg ikke forestille mig.

Man gjorde bare, hvad der blev sagt.

Der var ikke noget at diskutere.

Jeg vidste godt, at familierne var blevet tvangsflyttet -

- men at de selv skulle finde deres fremtid i den arktiske ørken -

- er ubegribeligt.

- Hold da op. Må jeg kigge? - Ja, værsgo.

Er det lokale kunstnere?

Ja, det er lokale, som Jeg køber fra. Det er en søløves underkæbe.

- Den er fantastisk. - Ja. Det er en tupilak.

Før i tiden blev tupilak brugt som åndevåben.

I dag er det flot kunsthåndværk.

- Hvad koster sådan en fætter? - Et par tusinde.

Jeg kommer og handler lidt senere. Så kan vi lige forhandle om det.

I Qaanaaq har man stadig den oprindelige fangerkultur.

Aleqatsiaq.

Så sig "Peter".

Men det er jo ikke er dit navn. Som hvis jeg siger: "Kald mig Bob."

Jeg har fået selskab af Aleqatsiaq, som fortæller -

- at en fanger Ilge er kommet ind med en narhval.

Det er slagtepladsen hernede?

Du skal prøve mattak.

- Har du fået frisk…? - Nej. Er det godt?

Mattak er hvalens hud. Denne delikatesse spises rå.

Det smager godt, siger hun.

Bare tag en bid.

Og så hiv.

- Det tror jeg ikke på. - Jeg kan ikke.

Uden dem her havde vi ikke haft vitaminer nok til at overleve.

Det er jo svært at dyrke grøntsager. Det kan man ikke.

Hvordan er det, I fanger? Fanger I fra kajak eller fra båd?

Vi harpunerer fra kajakken.

Hvordan undgår I så, at den går ned?

Hvordan far I fat i den? Den dykker vel så, eller hvad?

Når vi harpunerer hvalen, er de en oppustet sælkrop bundet fast -

- og så flyder den på overfladen.

Så det handler om at finde ud af, hvornår den kommer op?

Og hvordan slår I den så ihjel?

Når den kommer op til overfladen, skyder vi hvalen.

Hvad siger han?

Han er dårlig til at arbejde med det, fordi han bliver filmet.

Nå ja. Du kan sige, at vi aldrig har set det bedre.

Men jeg har heller aldrig set det før.

Ti kilo.

- Og hvad er kiloprisen? - Normalt 150.000.

- 150.000?! - Nej.

Den koster nok 2000 pr. kilo.

De fikto dage til at flytte hen til et sted, hvor der ikke var noget.

Det er en Vlgt|g tlng at se bagud, men man skal også se fremad.

Det fornemmer man også her. Det er et stolt folk.

Det er nogle mennesker, som har klare værdier for sig selv.

Jeg tager lufthavnen for at hente Peter, min rejsekammerat og svoger.

Peter bliver vores altmuligmand og døråbner til Grønland.

Tågen har også forsinket Peters rejse.

Han skulle gerne være med det fly -

- så han kan være med på den sidste dag i Qaanaaq.

Der kommer han. Han har altså fået et flot skæg.

Så klarede vi det. Det var noget af en...

Jeg snakkede lige om det der med, at vi tog af sted onsdag -

- og du tog af sted tirsdag. Det er fuldstændig... Sådan er det.

- Sikke en rejse. - Meget følelsesladet landing.

Peters rejse har været særligt bevægende.

Med på flyet var den afdøde politiker Uusaqqak Qujaukitsoq og hans familie.

Uusaqqak er tidligere politiker og storfanger. Han er herfra.

Det var ham, der kæmpede for, at de tvangsflyttede mennesker -

- da man lavede det her sted, at de skulle have noget erstatning.

Han er borgerrettighedsforkæmper.

Du skal til begravelse. Det starter lige om lidt.

- Skal jeg tage den orange? - Det må du godt.

Peter nåede frem.

Jeg har glædet mig til at dele den her tur med ham -

- fordi han har en stor viden om sit land og en stor kærlighed.

Vi er vant til, at tingene skal foregå efter vores hoved -

- og på vores betingelser.

Hvis vi bliver forsinket med et fly, skal vi have godtgørelse -

- fordi vores borgerrettigheder er på spil.

Men sådan er det ikke her. Her er det naturen, der bestemmer.

Den lægger rammerne for, hvad man kan og ikke kan.

For at være helt ærlig synes jeg, det er en ret stor befrielse...

Hvis man kan slippe den stressfaktor, der ligger i, at man har et program.

THIS MABON, HONOR THE DARK GODDESS

PAGAN This Mabon, Honor the Dark Goddess SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 BY ASTREA Every autumn equinox, I imagine the goddess of light and the dark goddess meet in a forest clearing. The young mother-maiden swings a picnic basket, and lays down a blanket, bread, and cheese. The old crone pulls a bottle of cyser mead from her carpetbag, and pours it into glasses. They clink and make a toast to Mabon, or the autumn equinox — the day when the light and darkness are most equal. I imagine the goddesses speak of the things that happened in the past six months. The maiden tells the dark goddess of human events and earthly occurrences, of devastations and accomplishments. The dark goddess speaks of the world of emotions and subterranean forces, of feelings beneath the surface. They nod, laugh, and shake hands. When the afternoon light turns strong and warm, they hear a satyr’s pipes and a distant faery song. They dance to the music, their skirts brushing the forest floor. Finally, when orange and coral clouds line the horizon, the goddesses hold hands. They close their eyes and envision a better future for the earth and humankind. The goddess of light yawns. She gazes lovingly at her bronze scepter with the glowing golden bulb, propped against a pine trunk. She picks it up and passes it, with the utmost love and respect, to the dark goddess. Upon her touching it, the metal oxidizes to black. The globe turns white and becomes cratered, like the moon. The goddess of light seems to fade a little. She curls up beneath a tree, yawning, and falls asleep. The earth rearranges itself to cover her. It will keep her warm until her rebirth in March. The dark goddess glows. A flush of power flows through her skin. Her hair becomes electric and wild, and a cool breeze blows. It is her time now. * The dark goddess archetype is a rich amalgam of the crone, the dark moon woman, the unseen transformative fire beneath the rich earth, wild magic, and the intuitive subconscious. She is Baba Yaga, Persephone, Hecate, Lilith, Hel, Kali, the Morrigan, Tiamat, Cerridwen, and many more. These are not your mother goddesses. These are the aged, the hidden, the untamed, the transformative, and the magical. Now, at Mabon, it’s finally their season. People who have a relationship with the dark goddess have a certain vibe to them. They know more than what’s spoken aloud. They are ‘old souls’ — people whose eyes are like portals into another realm. They’re most comfortable in deep conversations with other old souls. They can sit with their own pain or another’s pain and not run away, screaming. They know the twists and turns in the dark alleys of their minds and souls as well as they know the lines on their own hands. They face their own darkness as well as that of the subconscious of the entire human race. They are the people who say, ‘I see. What can we do . You’ve probably heard the call of a dark goddess, since you’re reading this. You don’t have to be a crone to relate to her. Women and men of all ages have felt their hearts and souls stir at the mention of one of her names, or at the changing of the seasons. Perhaps you’ve had an experience with her, or dreamed of her, or maybe your journey with her is just now beginning.The autumn equinox is a perfect time to make room in your heart for the dark goddess archetype. If you’re willing to face your own shadow self and do the work of the dark goddess, read on. Just before sundown, perform ritual preparation — physically and mentally cleanse yourself. Practice intentional breathing and don ritual clothing. At sunset, call the directions. Light a non-floral incense and an autumn-colored candle (or black). Think of your dark goddess, and say, “Goddess, I call upon you, and humbly ask for your insight.’ Be aware of your surroundings — you may receive an omen, such as a flock of ravens, symbolizing the Morrigan. Repeat the phrase as many times as you feel necessary to invite her insight into you. Still your thoughts and follow your intuition. The dark goddess may tell you to meditate or dance. Perhaps you’ll feel the desire to embrace a tree or bow and press your forehead to the ground. Don’t be surprised if you’re moved to move. After all, integrating the body-shadow is a journey in and of itself. Perhaps you’ll spill your heart out, or maybe you’ll be still and silent. In any case, go deep. Go within. The dark goddess demands that you look at yourself — all parts of yourself. Look at the parts you show to others, the parts you keep to yourself, and the parts you don’t even want to acknowledge. Sit with the entirety of yourself. Sit with the pain. Feel it. Acknowledge it. Cry if you need to. After you are in touch with your shadow self / selves for several moments, say, ‘I release my pain. I trust that this energy can be recycled into a better possibility.’ Take several deep breaths and release the emotion. Repeat the mantra above until you feel the energy is truly gone. Bring new energy from the earth up through your chakras. Balance your chakras as the energy travels upward, and consciously hold them in place. This will help to integrate your shadows. To close out the ritual, give thanks from the bottom of your soul and your heart. ‘Thank you, goddess, for your insight, and for any other gifts you choose to give me.’ Make any additional movements or sounds you feel appropriate. You’ll want to practice good post-ritual self-care. Drink clean water. Eat clean food. Breathe deep breaths and be good to yourself. Write your experiences down in your Book of Shadows to have the option to repeat the ritual again next year. This can be an exciting marker to see how much you’ve grown. If you’re new to working with your dark goddess, perform this ritual a few more times over the next few months. Sit with your pain or darkness so you can integrate it before you ask for anything besides insight. Any requests for specific gifts or boons without laying the groundwork may not be appropriate, and may not be granted. For the next six months, meditate on your dark goddess from time to time. If she bids you to create an altar for her, do so. Buy her statue, or a stone, or print a piece of artwork of her. Build the bridge. Until the March equinox (where we’ll experience the rebirth of the maiden), revel in your new depth and intuitions. You’ll find yourself following your gut more and more. The more you listen to the intuitive voice within you, the closer you’ll be to her. You’ll know you can’t always trust what can be seen, but you’ll be in touch with something deeper — a whole world hidden beneath the skin. That’s a good thing. Per aspera ad astra is an ancient Latin phrase that’s quite fitting for working with a dark goddess — through the dark and rocky road, to the stars. The way forward may not always be clear or easy, but integrating the dark and unseen parts of ourselves can be deeply rewarding and makes our lives infinitely richer. Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way. * There are many other stories of the changing of the light guard, such as Persephone transforming from a maiden into the Queen of the Underworld and the Oak King and the Holly King, etc. While my story certainly isn’t historic, it’s from the heart and resonates with my beliefs.
