17 years ago today, Jenna Coleman attended the 2006 British Soap Awards!
She was pictured here together with Charley Webb and Roxanne Pallett, two of her costars on Emmerdale. Jenna played Jasmine Thomas, Charley played Debbie Dingle, and Roxanne played Jo Sugden.

So we’re just taking in the scenery then, are we? Come on, London awaits! (Part 2.1)
Note there will be three posts for part two. Max leaves behind a letter for Paddy with Jo. Jimmy sees Max with duffle bag be picked up by Robert. Andy calls in the troops which winds up to be Emily (he meant to get Cain) to talk sense to Debbie. Max is not happy that Debbie and Sarah are coming along.

I hope one day they give Jack Sugden Jr a storyline, whether it's one where he resents Debbie for whatever reason (maybe she has yet another new partner that he knows if he bonds with, they'll leave eventually)
Surely he's got some trauma from being pushed aside after he saved Sarah or from all the constant rotation of step-dad after step-dad, there was Pete, Ross, Joe, Al and whoever Debbie could be with now
He hasn't seen his family in years and he could act out due to him missing Cain and Charity (running away etc)
He could have a storyline where he learns of what his parents did back when they were younger (andy abusing Jo, Debbie helping to cover up Cameron's murders and the murder of Shane) and see his parents in a different way
Just bring him back, as he's got a new uncle after all and the boy is 12 soon surely they should be celebrating that or it should be mentioned by Charity like "Oh this is for Jack, he's twelve and I'm going to see him."

Conversation
Moira: Right, Robert, I've put the shopping away, but will you tell Vic that I'm nipping home but I'll be back later?
Robert: Yeah, sure.
(Vic appears, her and Moira say goodbye)
Robert: I wasn't really watching anything.
Vic: Oh, it's fine, leave it on. It's painful to think I have to fill the silence by talking about it.
Robert: I was talking to Diane earlier. The last thing that I want is for you to feel like I'm putting pressure on you, or anything.
Vic: Right.
Robert: So, however you wanna do this, that's what we do. (Vic leans against him, he hugs her) So what do you want, Vic? Tell me, please?
Vic: I want to get him. And I want the police to make sure that he never, ever has the chance to do this to anybody else.
Robert: Then, that's what we do. We're gonna get the best lawyer. Whatever it takes. We're gonna deliver that lowlife to Hotten police station, with a sworn confession in his hand. You've got my word.

I was tagged by the amazing @jonny-versace so thanks for stressing me out with this!
RULES: name ten favourite characters from ten different things (books, tv, film, etc.) then tag ten people.
1) Robert Sugden - Cocky, vulnerable, loves hard as hell, ruthless, bit of an ass but good underneath it all
2) Thomas Barrow -- I have a type. A fighter, survivor, knows being gay doesn’t make him less than and fights against it despite the world being against him, loves fast and hard, brilliant and deserved BETTER
3) Dean Winchester -- loyal, badass, hero
4) Arthur Weasley, Harry Potter (books not films!!!) -- stealing this one from Jonny
5) Neil Gaiman’s Death -- She felt like me when I read the Sandman comics
6) Lance from all Voltrons -- first crush when I was ten
7) Jo March -- also felt like me when I first read Little Women
8)  Hermione Granger -- felt like me, my grandmother and my mom.
9) Cordelia Chase -- honest to fault, fabulous, a Queen and a goddess. (seriously should have realized I was bi sooner people)
10)  Bellamy Blake -- protector

Just thinking which Sugden brother do you think Katie loved the most, I see loads say Andy and Robert was more about excitement but imo that the point imo her love for Robert was more intense and passionate, while Andy felt more like friends who loved each other. I personally think she settled for Andy as she been burned by Robert before, but Andy also cheated on her but think she knew that down to her affair with Robert but still bizarre she went back to Andy after Jo not just the cheating but him beating her up etc, andy is quite vile i never understood why he the favourite over the biological son. no wonder his so bitter.
Katie said it herself at one point. While she loved Andy, she was in love with Robert (plus, would she have been happy as a farmer’s wife as Sarah was with Jack?). That was one of the reasons she came back when everything blew up in her and Robert’s faces about their affair. She couldn’t stay away from Robert but, also, she wanted to take things slow with him before they began playing house. Plus, it also took time for Jack to accept her again. When she found out about Sadie, that truly broke her and she left the village unable to be around Robert. Her writing to Andy as she did at that time was more a plot point imo to launch Robert into his final exit story.
I can’t comment on the rest of it (Jo, etc) as I haven’t seen any of that. I do know Andy was an abuser for Jo (who will be arriving soon on Classic) and Katie married dull Declan. After Ryan!Robert’s return, her behavior definitely pointed to still having strong feelings for him (love?… we’ll never know). With her focusing on Robert rather than her new hubby…
Not an essay this time, wonders never cease.

Same anon who talked about chas. I saw some scenes of chas in youtube with Katie. The way she treated Jo was sooo shocking. This character isn't a good person and i wish the show would remember that. Even Katie did so many shitty things and was treated as an angel at the end. But chas!! I just don't understand how someone in the village wants to be with the Dingles. I really miss the Sugdens era even if Jack and Andy (especially him) did horrible stuff. At least, Jack tried. But chas, it's "do what i say not what i do" and "it's his fault, i done anything" while encouraging others characters to do despicable things (cain, robert...). I just can't believe they turned her as the voice of reason while most of her family are miserable because of her. Pushing aaron into a man he doesn't know or even in love with, Faith... the list is long.
yeah I can't stand her. I can't stand her babying aaron or pushing him onto the first guy that is Not Robert to so much as look in his direction, I hate how she bosses Paddy around and treats him like a child... I just hate pretty much all of her.
that 5 second thing she had with Al way back when she admitted she hated paddy (sort of) and wasn't happy with him was the most i've liked her...ever. Her and paddy are just the worst possible pairing ever and emmerdale treat them like this supercouple...

Do I think they could have sent a better message? Of course. Do I think it's a bad choice? ...not really. Yes, of course it's horrific and yes, of course there is something to be said for hope.
But I literally can't think of another DV storyline that has ended this way on screen before and that simply doesn't reflect the horrifying figures. Linda's r-pist was found not guilty because they wanted to reflect the reality and so I'm not surprised at this choice. I'm not thrilled by it either.
If we want our soaps to be (somewhat) realistic then we can't ignore the facts of what does happen in these situations. And if it makes just one family go "hang on, our sister/daughter/neighbour has been acting like Chantelle at times" then it has done some good. Or someone hearing their partner say the lines that Gray has and the same promises and see where it ends.
I talked about this when the Rhona/Pierce storyline hit in Emmerdale: I could have been her but I got out. I left mine before it got to that point, when the first hints and signs of emotional abuse were rearing their head. When I realised that I was flinching when he moved towards me because what if... I'd seen enough TV to know where this shit usually went and so I got out at the ground floor.
Yes, that's a powerful lesson in its own right and yes we need to see women escaping and being free. But we also need to see what happens with the ones who are convinced that their guy is different, that he wants to change. Look, he's doing therapy and everything. But mine really loves me, he's not a Pierce or a Trevor or a Gray or and Andy.
(You want shitty resolution? Andy Sugden and his fucking redemption arc after beating his wife Jo to the point where she fled and he got to carry in with his life.)
We need to show the Chantelles out there what is coming.
Soap rides on tragedy: Sinead's death, Oliver's terminal diagnosis in Corrie are all wrenching at the heart strings and screaming IT'S NOT FAIR from the rooftops. Life isn't fair and things don't end well for everyone.
I am almost certain that a soap has never had a DV storyline end in the death of the sufferer rather than the abuser. (At least I cant find one so please let me know if I'm wrong.) This can be just as powerful and just as impactful in its horror and while I wish she'd been able to escape and shack up with Kheerat and lived a happy life it would have always been the "same old same" ending.
If it makes one person say "I don't want to end up like her" then it will have done its job. And when Gray is found in pieces around the Square and literally everyone has an alibi? I will not be sad.
Note: I know the whole killing a WOC is a separate issue but my white self isn't qualified to rant about that. That is shitty and will always be shitty and I'm sorry for that.
Anyway, I'm going to bed.

Diane and Vic do know. When Vic found out she got out of control and accidentally set fire to the house they lived in, there was this whole moment where a photo of Rob and Andy burned down... Subsquently in 2011 Andy went to jail over it... which annoyed jack but they all forgave him. RIP Rob ever getting forgiveness though (especially if what happened to Katie came out Jack probably wouldn’t have done time for Rob like he did Andy... sigh)
First off, thank you so much for telling me so I didn't have to try and find out through wiki or something! BEYOND grateful.
Secondly, what is it with the Sugdens and fire??! Jesus Christ.
O. M. G
Wow. Just .... Wow. I'm sorry, but if my brother started a fire that killed my mum, I wouldn't exactly be jumping into his arms and awarding him Big Brother of the Century every time he steps into a room like she did. No matter how many years have gone by. WTF. As for Diane ... this cow has never made sense to me either. Maybe she would have felt slightly differently if Andy had ended up killing her precious Jack instead. (If only). How is it we are left with the worst Sugdens?? How is it fair Robert got stuck with them as well? Hasn't he been through enough?
Right, so it was Sarah's death that Andy did time for. (Did you say Jack did time for him??? WTF). Did Andy do time for beating Jo?
So your son ends up killing your wife because you've fucked up so much you desperately need money, but Christ yes, let's make it an Andy pity party, Jack. Let's wrap on the black arm bands and pull out the violins in mourning that he's actually paying the price for robbing your family of your wife and mother of your kids. Incidentally it comes back to you every time because of how badly you screwed your family over. But then, the fall out Jack constantly had with Sarah, to the point in public he threatened to kill her a couple of times, he probably saw Andy's departure as more of a loss. (God, no wonder she had an affair).
Robert would never have been forgiven for stealing so much as a paperclip.

Diane: She's spark out in the spare room.
Robert: Yeah, she says she's not been sleeping much at night-time. It's hardly surprising, is it, her being here, on her own, in the dark.
Diane: She's not on her own, any more, and we won't let her be.
Robert: I can't even let myself think about what he did to her, Diane.
Diane: Oh, I know. Makes my blood boil.
Robert: If only I'd got in a taxi home with her.
Diane: Robert, you're not responsible for what happened.
Robert: I just don't know what to do to help her.
Diane: We do whatever Victoria wants us to do. Support her any way we can.
Robert: And the fact that she's pregnant! Please tell me we're not just gonna tip-toe around the subject. Plans need to be made, surely?
Diane: Like I say, we follow Victoria's lead. Tread carefully, Robert, I mean it.
