JJ Maybank x Kiara Carrera (3.1K) JJ and Kie happen to bump into each other at an event. By chance. Totally by chance. 18+
“You’re kidding.”
Pope’s head turned to look his way, his brows furrowed together slightly at the biting tone in his friend’s voice. He noticed something catching the blond’s attention, found his gaze following to see what had caught his attention.
Not what.
Who.
The boy’s face softened and something quite like sympathy shone in his eyes. Not that JJ noticed, not at all. His eyes were locked on the body across the room, watching the figure move amongst the crowd, movements so fluid it almost felt like a dance. And fuck, he didn’t want to look away.
“JJ,” he murmured under his breath, nudging the boy with his elbow until those blue eyes snapped around to look at him. “Listen, man, I didn’t know she was going to be here—”
But JJ just shook his head.
“It’s fine,” he said like it was true, like he wasn’t gripping the glass with obscenely expensive whiskey in his hand so tight it could shatter.
Pope didn’t look convinced. “I know the breakup was hard—”
“I said it was fine, Pope,” JJ bit out between gritted teeth.
Because it was fine. It was so fine. And even if it wasn’t fine, he wasn’t about to show that to Pope. He needed to keep this up. He needed to keep up the facade in front of Pope and John B and everyone else attending this stupid museum gala. He would smile, he would drink this stupid whiskey and he would pretend like the collar of his suit wasn’t cutting off his circulation.
He would do it because he had to.
“I’m gonna go get a refill,” he announced aimlessly as he tore his eyes away from his friend, clearing his throat a little.
Pope frowned. “But you haven’t—”
He was cut off as JJ downed the rest of the whiskey in his glass, allowing the liquid to burn down his throat before slamming the glass on the table.
“Like I said,” the blond flashed him a smile. “I need a refill.”
He didn’t give his friend much of a chance to say anything as he wandered away from their table, pushing through the crowd with half-hearted apologies mumbled under his breath. He glanced at the bar, contemplating getting another drink but thought against it. He needed to be as close to sober he could get.
He needed to stay sharp.
JJ ignored the questioning looks and the lame attempts of random old, rich people reaching out to talk to him. He knew what they wanted, he knew they just wanted to talk to him just so they could say they did.
One of The Six.
That was all they cared about. For his whole life, people cared about his name. They cared that he was Luke Maybank’s son, that he was another Maybank generation of disappointment, that he was just a lowlife that would achieve nothing in his life like his ancestors before him. His whole fucking life revolved around his name.
And after El Dorado, it seemed like nothing really changed. People didn’t care about him, not a single bit. They just cared about what his name was attached to, like a shiny, new toy hanging in front of them that they were desperate to dig their claws into. They cared about what his name could do for them.
JJ didn’t know which one was worse.
JJ didn’t know if it made him a little twisted to miss the lack of expectations people had for him, when he was young and stupid and didn’t realise what the pitying looks from his teachers meant when they saw the blues and purples colouring his skin.
He just wanted to go back to when he was a fucking nobody to everyone.
Everyone but her.
“I thought we agreed to wait half an hour.”
JJ lifted his head from against the wall, blinking his eyes open as the whirling thoughts came to a sudden halt and every cell in his body was screaming for something else. He blinked once, then twice before he let out a shuddering breath.
Kiara Carrera was gorgeous.
It wasn’t an opinion or an observation. It was just a fact. A plain and simple fact. Humans needed air to breathe, the Earth revolved around the sun, there were twenty-six letters in the English alphabet and Kiara Carrera was so damn pretty that it made his heart hurt.
She was pretty when she was laying in bed, her curls a mess on her head and her eyes still blinking away the sleep as she reached out for him. She was pretty when she was mad, her nose scrunching and her glare biting him in a way that excited him. She was even pretty when she was sad, those glossy eyes staring at him like he had the answer to everything.
But pretty didn’t even begin to cover how fucking breath-taking she looked in front of him right now.
The dress was a deep red, silk and flowing and clinging onto the curves of her body in a way that would make Aphordite jealous. The peak of her skin just made him spiral further, making it a little harder to breathe when he knew exactly how soft and smooth it felt under his fingertips. The way her curls cascaded down her shoulders, hints of lighter strands from the days spent in the sun after hours of surfing the same waves they have been riding for years.
But it was the lips that got him.
The lips that were the same fucking colour as the stupid dress she was wearing.
The lips he wanted to fucking feel against him.
“When have you ever known me to stick to the plan?” He retorted, suddenly wishing he had grabbed the extra drink from the bar when he felt how dry his mouth was.
Her lips twitched upwards. “Or be patient.”
A beat passed as they both stared at each other, feeling a million miles away from the gala in the abandoned hallway. They let themselves bask in the moment, in their own little bubble of frozen time before he couldn’t take it anymore.
“Fuck, I missed you.”
Something in his chest eased the second he wrapped his arms around her, tugging her into his chest as he buried his face into the crook of her neck. He took a deep breath, letting the smell of her vanilla perfume overwhelm him until his lungs were full of it. He felt her sink into the embrace, felt her body sag against his and it was the closest he had ever felt to coming home.
“I hate this,” she murmured as her hands fisted the material of his blazer between her fingers, like she was scared someone was going to pull him away from her. “I really hate this.”
“Me too, baby, me too,” he murmured back, his lips brushing against the junction of her neck that he knew would have her crumbling in his hands in seconds. “But we gotta do it. We can’t risk them knowing, can’t risk them taking you away from me.”
And maybe that was the hardest part of it all.
JJ was used to acting first and thinking later. He never cared about the consequences when it came to himself, he never really had a sense of self-preservation. It wasn’t that he never valued his life, he just didn’t go out of his way to care about it as much as he should have. But when nobody else really cared for you, was there ever a reason to care about yourself?
But this was different. This wasn’t just about him. He wasn’t the one who would get punished if they found it.
When he had broken Kiara out of Kitty Hawk, it seemed like a no-brainer. There were no thoughts about the consequences or the repercussions. He just knew he needed to get her out of there, he just needed her.
The Carrera’s didn’t see it as much.
Even on their return from El Dorado, even when the rest of the world saw them as heroes and explorers and the best thing to happen to the island—her parents saw it as rebellion.
And JJ was always in the middle of it.
But with the fear of her parents sending her away—somewhere far away where he couldn’t ever reach her again—they had to play it smart. With the months ticking away until Kiara’s eighteenth birthday, they had to just bite their tongues and keep her parents in the dark until they couldn’t act on their threats anymore.
Kiara never cared about her inheritance or a trust fund or anything else they could blackmail her with. Nothing mattered more to her than her freedom, and in a few months, that would be all hers too.
It just really fucking sucked that it meant they had to play this part, had to play into this stupid act. It sucked that they couldn’t even risk telling their friends or anyone else they trusted. It sucked that he had to pretend every day that he had moved on—that he was moving on.
It really fucking sucked that after years of pining and wanting and yearning, it would be the last few months that really tipped JJ Maybank over the edge. It was like his own personal form of torture to stay away, to keep away when he had gotten a taste of Kiara Carrera before she was ripped away from him again.
“I know,” Kiara sighed, the words sounding heavier than they ever should from someone as young as her.
“It would make it a lot easier if you warned me about lil’ numbers like these,” he commented after a few seconds, something inside him desperate to see her smile again.
Kiara snorted and he felt himself grinning at the sound. She pulled back, glancing down at her dress before looking at him with an innocent expression. “What ever could you mean?” She teased, playful and sounding a little more like the Kiara he loved before treasure hunts and meddling parents ruined them. “You can’t tell me this is getting you all hot and bothered, Maybank?”
“You could wear a trash bag and I would be on my knees, Kiara,” he retorted, the words earnest and sincere and her name just sounding like the end of a promise.
Her cheeks flushed but she didn’t look away. “Really know how to make a girl swoon, Jay.”
“Not a girl,” he shook his head, his hands gripping her waist like she would disappear. “Just you, baby.”
“Jay,” she breathed out, finding herself rendered speechless at the hands of JJ Maybank once again.
It had been far too long since he held her in his arms, since he was able to shamelessly say every thought that came to his head instead of having to hide behind the facade of broken exes. It had been far too long since he was able to tell her, since he was able to see her cheeks flush all pretty and pink and know he was the reason behind it.
His eyes dropped to her painted lips. “We should probably head back to the gala before somebody notices we are missing.”
She nodded dumbly. “Yeah, probably.”
“We can’t blow our cover, Kie,” he continued, his body moving on autopilot to follow her as she took one step back and then another.
“Of course,” she answered, walking back step by step until her back hit the wall.
“We don’t have much time,” he whispered, something stronger than desire burning in the pit of his stomach as her tongue darted out to lick her lips.
“We needed much time,” she retorted, and JJ couldn’t bring himself to care about the voice in the back of his head screaming that it was a bad idea.
He could go back to moping in his yearning and bubbling feelings later, he could break the facade for just a little while.
The sound of her moan was muffled the second his lips pressed against hers, his hands engulfing her face like she was his lifeline. In so many ways, she honestly was.
It didn’t matter that somebody could wander down this random hallway and see them. It didn’t matter that everyone they had been hiding their secret from were only a few walls away. It didn’t matter that it was risky and stupid and an unnecessary danger to their plan.
It wasn’t a logical decision at all but, then again, he didn’t have much use for logic when it came to Kiara.
“You’re gorgeous,” he breathed against her lips between kisses, his heart thundering in his chest when she let out a delighted noise. His head dropped to her neck, his lips touching every inch of skin he could to cover them with hopeful kisses. “You are fucking breath-taking, Kiara.”
“Jay,” she said, the tone in her voice was some twisted mix of a warning and a plea that thrilled him.
“I meant what I said,” he continued as his hands fisted the material of her silk dress between his fingers as it bunched at her hips. “You could wear anything, baby, anything and it would get me on my knees.”
Her lips parted in surprise as she watched him slowly descend down her body, nosing at her dress until his knees hit the carpeted ground. She pressed herself against the wall like it would help, like it would ground her enough when he lifted his head, his cheeks flushed and his hair dropping in front of his eyes as he looked up at her like a goddamn greek tragedy.
“Please, baby,” he whispered, breathless and absolutely at her mercy as his hands wrapped around her calves. “I need it, Kie. I need it so fucking bad.”
She didn’t even realise she had been nodding until he let out a groan, pulling one of her legs over his shoulder as his lips pressed against the bare skin of her thighs.
His hands squeezed the fat of her thighs, basking in the feel of her soft skin under his touch as he pressed one, two, three kisses along her inner thigh. He pushed the skirt of her dress up until it pooled at her waist, until he was able to slot himself between his legs like he had dreamed about pathetically for the last few weeks.
“Shit, baby,” he groaned as his fingers brushed against the waistband of her panties, if they could even be called as much. They were black and lacy and barely made of any fabric, and fuck, it made his head spin.
“Didn’t want it to ruin the dress,” she simply said, a teasing grin on her lips that he just wanted to kiss off her face.
“You’re a fuckin’ tease,” he groaned, his forehead pressed against her hip but he couldn’t help but smile as she laughed.
She pushed her fingers through his hair, pulling his head back so she could see the heated look in his eyes. “They are a part of a set.”
His lips parted in surprise. “Kiara.”
“I’ll wear it for you sometime,” she added, blood roaring in her ears as she spoke.
He cocked a brow. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she nodded, swallowing thickly. “Unless you get us caught.”
His eyes darkened and something mischievous washed over his expression as he grinned up at her. “Better keep quiet then, baby.”
It was fucking sinful to have JJ Maybank on his knees for her. To have him dressed up in a sleek suit that cost more than either of them cared to admit, to have him groaning and panting and pawing at her like he was a starved man who craved her. To have his head buried between her legs, one hand keeping her pushed open and the other pushing the fabric of her panties to the side.
Her head fell back as she slapped her hand over her mouth, a noise whiny and pathetic quickly muffled as she felt his tongue pressing slow, deliberate circles against her clit. Her eyes fluttered shut as he pulled her closer, as she let him because it felt like every cell in her body sacrificed itself to JJ Maybank the second he got his hands on her.
“Shit, Jay, please.” The words slurred together as she felt the coil in her stomach twist, as she felt an overwhelming urge to squeeze her thighs around his head.
“I got you, baby,” he groaned, his nails digging into her skin like she would be ripped away from him, like somebody would take away the taste of heaven away from his lips. His nose brushed against her clit as he glanced up at her, as he watched her chest heave with soft pants. “Atta girl, Kiara.”
His hands gripped her thighs as she shook under his touch, as her body shuddered with every lick against her pussy. He groaned as she engulfed him completely with her taste and her smell and her moans and everything herherher.
His eyes fluttered shut as her thighs pushed against his ear, as her hands gripped his hair, as her heel dug into his back. His groans vibrated against her shuddering body as she came, as she let herself mutter his name on a loop like a broken record. His whole body burned for this to be forever, for the rest of the world to disappear and leave just the two of them to stay exactly where they were for the rest of their lives.
“Fuck,” Kiara breathed out, her head hitting the wall behind her with a low thump before she huffed out a laugh. “We are stupid.”
“Maybe,” he hummed as he pressed a kiss onto her shaky thighs, and then one more for good measure because he couldn’t bring himself to pull away from her just yet. “But stupid things have—”
“—good outcomes all the time,” she finished with a grin on her face.
“And this was the best goddamn outcome ever,” he murmured as his hands glided up and down her thighs, like it physically pained him to pull his touch away from her. Maybe because it did.
“Yeah,” she murmured, a soft expression on her face as she reached down, as her fingertips brushed over his face. “We just gotta ride out this stupid plan for a few months.”
He turned his head, catching her wrist as he pressed a light kiss on the palm of her hand. “Soon, baby. Some outcomes are so good that we just have to wait a little for them.”
“Soon,” she repeated like a mantra, like both of them had been doing every single day.
Soon. Soon. Soon.
Just not yet.

First Period
Request: Could you write a fic where jj maybanks little sister gets her first period and her dad finds out and makes her feel really bad about it but then jj makes her feel better?
JJ Maybank x sister!reader
Summary: Y/N gets her first period.
Warnings: luke being a dick
(gif not mine)
Y/N walks into the bathroom, pulling her pants down and sitting on the toilet. She looks down, her eyes widening at the red stain in her underwear. Her heartrate picks up, the girl quickly pulling her pants up and turning around in the mirror, seeing the red substance on the back of her pajama pants.
"No. No, no, no." She mumbles, rushing to her bedroom. She pulls the blankets back, the blood on her sheets. "Fuck." She whispers, feeling panic start to build up. She doesn't have any items to help her or prepare her for this. JJ's not even home, the boy having to work, reluctantly leaving his sister home alone with the siblings' dad.
Y/N whines as she considers going to get Luke. Maybe he's in a rare moment of sobriety and would help her. She goes to leave the room, but stops as music starts to blast letting her know she's not getting her wish.
She contemplates texting JJ, but knows they need the money and she shouldn't make him leave early, especially for something that isn't life or death.
The girl jumps as the door slams open, her father storming in.
"The fuck you doing, you useless little bitch? You were supposed to get those damn dishes done." Luke sneers, grabbing a fistful of her hair making her cry out.
"I-I'm sorry. I'll do them now." Y/N whines in pain.
"You bet your stupid ass you will." Luke seethes, Y/N flinching as spit flies onto her face. Luke starts to drag her out but notices the stain on her bed. "The fuck is that?"
"I-I got my period." Y/N admits with a shaky voice, avoiding eye contact.
"Ugh." Luke grimaces. "Don't you have shit for that?" He questions, shoving her back.
"N-no. No, this-- it's my first one." Y/N says. "I didn't-- I didn't know it happ-" She flinches as Luke punches the wall, creating a hole the size of his fist.
"You fucking idiot! You're supposed to know better when it comes to all that nasty shit!" Luke shouts.
"I'm sorry." Y/N whimpers, tears springing to her eyes.
"Don't fucking cry, you little crybaby!" He roars in her face, Y/N doing her best to hold her tears back. "Fucking stupid disgusting little bitch. God." He storms out, slamming the door shut behind him. He raises the volume on his stereo, Y/N covering her ears to block the noise out, quietly sobbing to herself.
---
JJ quietly walks into the house, listening to the silence. He waits a moment, hearing the snores emitting from his father in the living room. He gently shuts the door and creeps through the house, keeping his eyes on his dad to make sure he doesn't wake up.
Ditching his bag in his bedroom, he goes to Y/N's room, gently knocking on the door before opening it and going in, shutting the door. He looks around, frowning when he spots Y/N curled up on the floor on a blanket, her head on her knees.
"Hey." JJ gently calls, Y/N's head shooting up, the boy only growing more worried at the tear stains on her face. He glances up, noticing the hole in the wall that he knows wasn't there before. "Did he hit you?"
Y/N sniffles as she shakes her head, relaxing JJ only the slightest.
"What happened, kid?" JJ asks, crouching in front of her, brushing some of her wet hair away from her face.
"I-I got my period." Y/N mumbles, sniffling. JJ's eyes widen momentarily, not expecting that answer.
"O-okay." He says. "What happened?"
"He got really mad." She says, her voice only a broken whisper. JJ sighs, grimacing at her having to deal with Luke.
"C'mere." He tries to pull her into a hug, but she pulls back.
"No." She whines. "No, I'm disgusting."
"No, you're not." JJ denies. "This is a normal process for girls, you're not disgusting." He assures.
"No, it-- it's in my underwear and on my shorts. That's why I have the blanket, I didn't wanna stain the floor." She starts to cry as she rants. "And it's-- I didn't know what to do, we haven't actually talked about this. And it's all on my bed." She sobs, JJ finally able to pull her into a hug. He gently shushes her as she cries into his shoulder, his hand resting on the back of her head and stroking her hair.
"You're okay." JJ mumbles in her ear. "You're okay. It's okay." JJ continues to hold her until her cries start to cease.
"Okay. Hey." He pulls away, smoothing her hair down. "Get changed, clean up however much you need to, put some toilet paper in your underwear, and-- and if you're okay with it, I'll call Sarah and Kie and get them to help out with-- with the whole... supply thing. Cause I can comfort you, but I know there's a lot of options and I don't know shit about any of them." He admits gaining a watery giggle from his sister.
"That's fine." She nods, rubbing her nose and sniffing.
"Okay." JJ nods. "And pack a bag. We're going to the chateau." He states.
"What about the sheets?" She asks.
"Uh... I'll throw 'em in a trash bag and we can wash them there." JJ says. "I'll handle everything. Just get ready." Y/N nods and JJ kisses her on the forehead before leaving to let her get changed.
---
After a somewhat long trip to the store with Kie and Sarah on FaceTime, the two siblings managed to get the correct items. JJ didn't realize how much they would cost, using the last bit of money he had for them and a candy bar Y/N was eyeing at the counter.
The two are at the chateau and Y/N had taken a shower, taking care of everything while JJ put her sheets in the washer.
Them, Pope, and John B are hanging around as they wait for the other two girls to get here for a movie night.
"Hey." Sarah greets with a smile as she walks in.
"Hey, boys, Y/N/N." Kie smiles, walking in, her arms holding a few pizza boxes and six pack of beer along with a six pack of Y/N's favorite soda.
They get greeting in return, John B taking the pizzas from Kie and putting them on the coffee table.
"And this is especially for you." Sarah smiles, holding a basket out to Y/N. The younger girl lights up at her favorite snacks in the basket, along with a few period products and some painkillers. "A care package."
"Yeah. And if you have any questions, need any help, or anything, you know you can always come to us." Kie assures, smiling softly at the younger girl.
"Thank you." Y/N grins, getting up and hugging them both, the older two returning her hug with tight embraces.
"Here, baby Maybank." John B holds out a plate of pizza out to her, sliding a soda can over to her side of the table.
"Thanks." Y/N mumbles, accepting the plate and sitting back down.
'Thank you.' JJ mouths to his two female friends, both of them giving him smiles and nods.
"Can you sit with me?" Y/N hopefully looks up at Sarah.
"Yeah, of course." Sarah grins.
"Oh, come on." John B whines.
"Sorry, John B. I'm spoken for." Sarah shrugs, sitting next to the tween, rubbing her leg for a short comforting moment.
JJ reaches out and gets his own food and a beer, ruffling Y/N's hair before he sits back down.

JJ Maybank x Kiara Carrera (1.5k) JJ doesn’t turn down a dare, not ever. Right?
JJ Maybank wasn’t a fan of games.
Not the kind you played at parties, anyway. Even as a kid, he found things like musical chairs and pass the parcel stupid. Who wanted to wait to watch someone else open a gift? Especially one their parents could afford anyway. And what was the point in doing all that running for a seat if he was gonna get in trouble when he fought for it in the end?
And when he got older and stronger and braver and stupider, he found that the novelty of truth or dare wore off pretty quickly too. JJ never was a fan of telling the truth. The truth tended to be quite boring, unless you knew the right questions to ask. So he always picked dare and that grew old too, because JJ never turned down a dare, never said no. He bore the scars and bruises and had the stories to tell after each one, boasting and bragging about jumping from the highest cliff until there weren’t any left for him to climb.
But then one night when the tide was out and the summer had gone on too long, had grown too thick and sticky, some kid he’d once known from Mrs Peterson’s chemistry class chugged a beer, threw the empty can at his feet and dared him to kiss Kiara Carrera.
Even if they hadn’t made that stupid rule back in middle school, JJ was pretty sure kissing one of your best friends was pretty risky business. So he looked to John B and Pope, watched as they both hid their grins behind their drinks and shrugged and JJ suddenly felt like his cheeks were hotter than the sun.
Sarah was by her boyfriend, sitting on the sand between his bent knees and she was grinning, she was gloating and she took way too much joy in telling him and the rest of the group, “you don’t back down from a dare, do you, JJ?”
JJ narrowed his eyes at her, baring his teeth in what was supposed to be a smile but the girl knew differently.
“You know the script, Cameron,” he tried to sound casual, he tried to sound unaffected, but his gaze was wandering and trying to find the head of dark curls he’d last seen at the shore line. “No pogue on pogue macking.”
“Didn’t take you for one to follow the rules,” she shot back, still beaming.
“You could always pass,” the other kid said, smug and smirking at the rest of his friends, already pushing out his chest at the idea of finally getting JJ Maybank to turn down a dare. “Pick truth, you know, the easy way out.”
So JJ downed his beer, cheap and probably stolen and warmed from the lingering sun, and he pushed off of the tree he’d been leaning on to a chorus of whistles and cheers. It was never easy to walk steadily in sand but he did his best to keep his head held high and his shoulders squared as he pressed past the rest of the crowd.
Drunk people, high people, dancing people and people he didn’t know. People from out of town, people from the wrong side of town, people who got too close and tried to steal his attention with bubblegum scented chapstick and the promise of something more behind the old fish shacks.
He didn’t let his eyes stray from the girl at the edge of the beach, bare feet in the shore. Kie had left her sandals and her bottle of beer near a rock and JJ already knew she was following the prints in the wet sand, tiny scuff marks that told her the cluster of baby turtles she’d been watching had finally made their way home.
“Any stragglers?” He called out to her when he was close enough.
Kiara’s head shot up at the familiar voice, the edge in her eyes that told JJ she’d been on guard quickly fading away at the sight of him. She smiled, shrugging, bashful as if she’d been caught doing something embarrassing.
“None that I can see,” she told him. Kie toed at the wet sand, waiting for the boy to stand by her side like she knew he would. “Which is good. Gotta make sure everyone takes their trash home with them though, I’m so sick of picking up beer caps. Do you know that eighty percent of—”
“You gonna kill my buzz with the rest of that sentence?” JJ interrupted knowingly. He said with a lazy smile, his usual charm and flirt and Kie knew by now not to take too much offence to it.
Still, she rolled her eyes but she didn’t continue, her shoulder knocking his as she let her gaze flicker over his face. He looked a little off, a little lost in thought with pink cheeks and guarded eyes.
There was no drink in his hand, no pre-rolled joint tucked behind an ear.
“What’re you doing down here?” The girl asked. “The keg's back that way.”
JJ snorted, squinting out to the sea before running a hand through his already messy hair. He could feel his heartbeat rattle his bones and he was sure his cheeks matched the colour of the water by now, the sky above too. A rosy, hazy pink-red, an almost scarlet at the horizon as the last of the light sunk into the sea.
“What? M’not allowed to come say hi?” JJ huffed, all faux dramatics and offence. “Real nice of you Kie.”
Kie didn’t answer, she just kept looking at him, brows raised. A sweep of the beach told her enough, the rest of her friends huddled around a pile of wind-worn logs with some kids she once knew from school. They were all staring, waiting, whispering and passing what looked like money into each other's palms.
“You have an audience,” she murmured, looking back out to the sea. The waves were turning cotton candy with the setting sun, frothy pink amongst the blue. “Are they expecting a show?”
JJ shrugged, lips downturned and his nonchalant act started to slip. Kie’s arm brushed against his, bare skin on bare skin and the wind carried the smell of sea salt and the girl’s sunscreen.
Coconut, peach and something else that reminded him of an afternoon spent on a surfboard.
“Nah,” he drawled. He wrinkled his nose, tried not to look at her for fear of giving everything away. His task, his act, his feelings. “Just another dare.”
Kiara gave a soft snort and looked back over her shoulder at the group. Sarah waved, a wiggle of her fingers that Kie returned with confusion. “What’s the dare, Jay?”
Silence. Heavy and warm like the summer and it lingered between them in the same way.
“Something stupid.”
Kie raised a brow. “Like, you might get hurt, stupid?”
JJ turned then, swallowing the nervous lump in his throat, swallowing the lie with it. “No,” he murmured. Kie found his gaze, smiling and confused, her brow crinkled. “Maybe,” the boy conceded.
“That’s only slightly concerning,” Kiara joked but she moved a little closer all the same, shoulder bumping JJ’s as the tide touched her toes. “What is it this time? Jumping off that cliff at Rixon’s? Stealing Shoupe’s lawn furniture?”
JJ laughed and shook his head, careful not to move even closer, because if he did, the back of his hand would touch the girls and then it might have not been able to hold his cool for much longer. He could feel Sarah’s eyes on the back of his head. “Nah, nothin’ like that, don’t worry.”
So Kie waited, expectant, the silence filled with the sound of the water and the muffled music that came from way back by the treeline, where the greenery met the sand, an old Bluetooth speaker that came from god knows where. She watched JJ while she stood, the slight breeze that only came out at night picking at strands of their hair. The boy turned golden in the last of the sun, his bottom lip tucked between his teeth and he worried at it, wondering what to say next.
“I feel— I feel like it’s one of those things, this dare,” JJ coughed, voice breaking a little with nervousness. “I feel like I should do it because I want to, y’know? Not because someone else told me I should.”
Kie wasn’t sure what to take from that, what to say. She wasn’t sure at all what kind of dare would elicit this type of reaction from JJ but the boy’s eyes were flitting across her features, searching for something she wasn’t sure he’d be able to find.
“It sounds like it’s something worth waiting on then,” she finally said. Kie licked at her lips, suddenly self conscious. She took note of how her friend watched the movement. “Like something you should do for yourself.”
And JJ couldn’t find it in himself to disagree, dare be damned. He’d take the loss, head still held high and shoulders squared as he made his way back across the sand to the group. He wouldn’t call it a defeat, not when Kiara was walking by his side, shoulder bumping his as she laughed at one of his bad jokes.
He’d wait. He’d waited long enough.
He could wait a little more.

Rating:General Audiences
Warning: Fluff, angst, bitter ex, major friend group dynamic shift
Category:F/M
Fandom: Outerbanks (OBX), (Netflix TV series)
Relationships: JJ Maybank x f reader
Summary: Kie's slowly getting under your skin especially when you're JJ's new girlfriend
Based on recent experiences, and the song skin by Sabrina Carpenter has been stuck in my head for like 6 months on top of the recent experiences...
---
**"Maybe we could’ve been friends, if I met you in another life…"**
The thought crosses my mind as I stand in the middle of the living room, fiddling with my phone, and waiting for JJ to come back from the kitchen. The memory of Kiara's expression when she found out about us is still fresh, lingering like a bitter taste I can’t wash away. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this, but I guess things never go as planned.
“You okay?” JJ's voice pulls me from my thoughts as he enters the room, a playful smile tugging at his lips. He’s balancing two mugs of coffee in his hands, making his way toward me like everything in the world is perfectly fine.
I nod, forcing a smile back. “Yeah. Just thinking.”
He hands me one of the mugs, his fingers brushing against mine. The contact is warm, grounding me in the moment. "About Kie?"
I glance away. He knows me too well.
“It’s hard not to think about her,” I admit, sitting down on the worn-out couch. “She was—no, she *is* my friend. I hate that it feels like I’m betraying her.”
JJ sighs and sits next to me, his arm resting casually behind my shoulders. “You didn’t do anything wrong. She’ll come around. It’s just gonna take time.”
**"I’m happy and you hate it, hate it, oh…"**
I wish I could believe him. It’s not that I don’t want to be with JJ—it’s that being with him comes with a whole mess of complications I didn’t see coming. Kie and JJ had always had this unspoken connection. At least, that’s what everyone thought, including me. And then I fell for him. Hard.
Now, it’s like every glance from Kiara is a reminder that I’ve taken something she didn’t realize she wanted until it was too late.
“I don’t think she’s ever going to be okay with it,” I confess quietly. “With us.”
JJ chuckles softly, shaking his head. “Well, that’s too bad. Because I’m not going anywhere, and neither are you.”
His words make my heart flutter, even though the doubt still lingers in the back of my mind. I know he means it—he’s serious about us, about this. But how do I move forward when the person I care about most next to JJ feels like I’m rubbing this relationship in her face?
**"You can try to get under my, under my, under my skin, while he’s on mine."**
I take a deep breath and lean into him, letting his warmth seep into me. I want to focus on him, on this moment, but the guilt weighs heavy on my chest.
“You think she’ll really get over it?” I ask softly, not really expecting an answer but needing to hear him say it anyway.
JJ turns his head slightly, his lips brushing against my temple. “Eventually. Or maybe not. But either way, I’m not giving this up.” His voice is firm, and I can feel the truth in it.
I close my eyes for a moment, trying to silence the doubt. There’s something undeniably special between us—something that wasn’t there with anyone else. And maybe that’s why it feels so complicated. Maybe that’s why Kiara reacted the way she did when she found out.
**"I wish you knew that even you can’t get under my skin, if I don’t let you in…"**
“It’s not just Kie,” I whisper, more to myself than to him. “It’s everything. The looks. The comments.”
JJ pulls back slightly, his blue eyes searching mine. “You mean from the others? John B? Pope?”
I nod. “They keep acting like this is something we should’ve told them about sooner. Like we should’ve asked for permission or something.”
JJ sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Look, I know it’s complicated with the Pogues, but at the end of the day, they’re gonna support us. Maybe they’re just weirded out because they didn’t see it coming. But who cares? This is about *us*, not them.”
His words are reassuring, but the sting of Kiara’s reaction still sits heavy in my chest. When she found out, the hurt in her eyes was unmistakable. She hadn’t said much, but the silence spoke volumes. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so torn between two people in my life.
“You don’t think I’m a terrible friend, do you?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
JJ tilts his head, his expression softening as he looks at me. “No. You’re not a terrible friend. You just…fell in love. And sometimes, that happens in ways people don’t expect.”
**"And I’m not asking you to let it go, but you’ve been telling your side, so I’ll be telling mine."*
It’s true. Kiara hasn’t exactly been shy about expressing her feelings on the matter, even if it’s been in subtle ways—pointed comments, sideways glances, and the awkward tension that fills the room whenever the three of us are together. But I’ve kept my side of the story mostly to myself, too afraid to make things worse.
“You know she called me the other night?” I say, breaking the silence.
JJ raises an eyebrow. “What did she say?”
“She just…wanted to know why. Why *you*? Why now?”
He doesn’t say anything for a moment, his jaw tensing slightly as he processes my words. “And what did you tell her?”
I shrug, feeling the weight of that conversation settle over me again. “I told her the truth. That it just…happened. That I didn’t plan on falling for you, but I did.”
JJ’s lips quirk into a small smile, though there’s a hint of sadness in it. “And how did she take that?”
I let out a soft laugh, though it’s more out of exasperation than amusement. “She didn’t really respond. Just said she needed time to figure things out.”
He leans back on the couch, pulling me closer into his side. “Then let her have her time. We’ve got all the time in the world.”
**"You can try to get under my, under my, under my skin… but he’s all mine."**
The thing is, I know he’s right. I know that no matter what happens with Kiara or anyone else, this—what we have—it’s real. And I can’t let their opinions, their judgment, get in the way of that. JJ is mine, and I am his. That’s all that should matter.
“I just don’t want to lose her,” I admit softly, resting my head against his shoulder. “Or anyone.”
“You won’t,” JJ murmurs, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. “And even if things are rocky for a while, we’ll figure it out. Together.”
I close my eyes, letting the comfort of his words wash over me. Maybe it won’t always be easy. Maybe there will always be a part of Kiara that resents me for this. But I can’t let that hold me back from being happy.
**"You can’t get under my skin, if I don’t let you in."**
And I won’t let her. Not anymore.
I pull back slightly to look at JJ, his face soft in the dim light of the room. “I love you, you know.”
His eyes light up with that mischievous glint I’ve come to adore, and he leans in, his lips brushing mine. “I know. And I love you too.”
For the first time in a while, I feel like maybe, just maybe, everything will be okay.

♡♡♡
You paced in front of Mark’s office, tapping your phone against your hand.
“You can come inside.” Mark called from his office.
You took a deep breath and opened the door to his office, walking inside.
“What’s up?” Mark asked, typing away on his computer.
“Um, there’s this gala coming up for business owners and entrepreneurs and investors and stuff like that.” You said, pacing around his office as you spoke with your hands. “And I was thinking it would look good if maybe we went together.”
You had no idea why you were so nervous, you were never nervous. You think it was because of the fight you two had. This was the first time in your life you were possibly facing rejection and that terrified you.
“I agree.” Mark nodded, making you stop in your tracks. You turned and faced him. “Oh, thank God you stopped I was worried you would burn a hole in the carpet. But, yes, I agree. I think it would look good for marketing. And for investors to see us together, to talk to us, together.”
“So, it’s decided then.” You said with a small smile before leaving his office.
♡♡♡
You walked off your family’s private jet in Charleston with Mark, Lily, and your glam team following close behind.
“Did you really need to pack so much for two days?” Mark asked, lugging your suitcase behind him.
“Would you stop complaining? It’s not that heavy.” You said, turning around to look at him.
“Would you like to carry it?”
“Isn’t it supposed to be your job as a man to carry my luggage?”
“Maybe if I was your boyfriend.” Mark mumbled, following behind you.
“Yeah, no way in hell is that happening again.” You scoffed.
♡♡♡
Your assistant quickly checked you into the hotel and you went up to your room.
“You can just leave my bag there.” You told Mark as you dropped your purse on the couch. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.” Mark said before leaving.
Your suite was a good size. It had two bedrooms, one for you and one for Lily, a glam room, two bathrooms, and of course the living area complete with a mini bar.
“Lily, do you want to grab dinner?” You asked, turning on your heel to look at her.
“Y-you want to get dinner with me?”
“Of course, silly.” You said with a smile.
“Sure Ms. Thornton.”
“Lily, we aren’t at work you can drop the formalities.” You laughed.
♡♡♡
You sat in the glam room of your hotel room, surrounded by your glam team. Your hair was in rollers, you were getting your makeup done, and your dress hung on a hook behind you. You read emails on your phone as you sipped on your latte through a straw.
“Do you ever stop working?” Mark asked, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed.
“No.” You responded flatly, looking at him through the mirror.
“You need to get a life.” Mark chuckled.
“Me? You’re the one who needs to get a life. You know my assistant, Lily, she’s single, you should ask her out.”
“Why would I ask your assistant out?”
“She’s cute, your age, her dad is the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.”
“Which one?”
“McKesson.”
“Her dad is Brian Tyler?” Mark asked, his eyes going wide. “What is she doing working as your assistant?”
“She wanted to do something with her time other than spending her dad’s money.”
“I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going?”
“To ask Lily out.” Mark said, before leaving.
♡♡♡
You sighed as you waited for Mark to finish getting ready, checking the time on your phone repeatedly.
“Mark, hurry up!” You shouted as you stood in the middle of his room.
“Sorry.” He said, walking out of the bathroom, adjusting his tie.
“God, took you long enough. We have to go, the driver’s downstairs.” You walked out of the room, Mark following closely behind, and made your way to the elevator.
As you rode the elevator, it stopped just one floor below you. You sighed and moved next to Mark to make room in the elevator. You didn’t do much to hide the disgust on your face when Rafe and Sofia entered.
“Y/n, how nice of you to bring a charity case.” Rafe smirked.
“Rafe, how thoughtful of you to bring an extra bartender so the bar staff doesn’t get overwhelmed. That’s what you did at the club, right Sofia? Before you started living off of Rafe’s inheritance.” You shot back, causing Mark to smirk.
“If I remember correctly, y/n, you worked there for a summer as a cart girl.” Sofia said, holding her head high.
“Oh, Sweetie, I worked there to flirt with the frat boys that came through, you worked there to pay your bills. We are not the same.” You watched as the smile dissipated from Sofia’s face. You leaned in to Sofia’s ear and whispered. “Speak to me like that again and I tell Rafe everything.”
You leaned back and smirked as Sofia’s face flushed red.
“Oh, Mark, I forgot to introduce you to Rafe. Mark this is Rafe Cameron, owner of Cameron Development. Rafe, this is Mark, my business partner.”
“I would say it’s nice to meet you, but you did just call me a charity case.” Mark said, shaking Rafe’s hand when he extended it.
“Nothing personal.” Rafe muttered, shoving his hand in his pocket.
“I don’t know, seemed kind of personal. You must be the ex-boyfriend.”
“Seems we have that in common.” Rafe chuckled.
♡♡♡
“I can’t believe you let her talk to me like that.” Sofia huffed on the car ride to the venue.
“You tried playing with the big dogs and you got bit, deal with it.” Rafe snapped back.
“I deserve to be respected, Rafe.” Sofia said, earning a chuckle from Rafe.
“You deserve to be respected? You’ve done nothing to earn her respect. Respect is earned, not given.”
“I don’t understand why you constantly stick up for her. I guarantee she doesn’t stick up for you like this.”
“I stick up for her because she’s been my friend my entire life. You’ve been in my life, what, five minutes and you think you trump her?”
“Who was here for you when your father died? Who made sure you became a better man?”
“She was there for me when my dad died. Those flowers that came from a fake address were from her. I just never reached out to her because I was giving her the distance she asked for. And I became a better man for her. God, Sofia, when are you gonna wake up and realize it’s always been her.”
“Then why are you here with me tonight instead of her?”
“Because, you were the second best choice.”
♡♡♡
You and Mark quickly found your table before you excused yourself to make your way to the bar.
“Rosé, please.” You sighed, leaning against the bar.
Rafe came and stood next to you at the bar, placing his order.
“You just had to say something in the elevator, didn’t you?” You asked, turning towards Rafe.
“You know I’ve always had a hard time keeping my mouth shut.” Rafe smirked, causing you to chuckle. “Besides, I know you would’ve said something if I didn’t.”
“Mmm, I don’t know how true that is.” You said, taking a sip of your Rosé.
“You and I both know you’ve been holding that bartender bullshit in your canister for a while now.”
“Oh, Rafe Cameron, you know me so well.” You mocked, pretending to swoon.
“I do, and that’s how I know you won’t have a good time tonight with Mark over there.” Rafe said, pointing over to where Mark was sitting.
“Why is Mark talking to Sofia at our table?” You asked, glaring in their direction.
“Oh, funny thing, they put us at the same table.” Rafe chuckled, taking a drink from his whiskey.
“Oh, fantastic.” You muttered, finishing your wine.
♡♡♡
“Not having a good time?” Rafe asked as you found yourself standing at the bar again.
“I’m just having the best night of my life talking to all these people who don’t take a woman owning a business seriously.” You said, sarcasm dripping off of every single word.
“Where’s Mark?”
“Talking to potential investors. I decided it would be best if I let him do the talking tonight. Where’s your girlfriend?”
“I sent her back to the hotel room.”
“What? Why?”
“Because, she’s not who I wanted to be here with tonight.”
♡♡♡
You had pulled Rafe into a dark hallway, away from everyone, away from the party. You paced in front of him as he leaned back against the wall, his hands in his pockets, watching you carefully.
You were thinking out everything you wanted to say. You knew this wasn’t the best place to do this, but you were a couple glasses of wine deep, and wine always got you in your feelings. You wanted to make a big speech, you wanted to tell Rafe everything you had been holding back, but all that came to your head was ‘I love you, Rafe Cameron. I love you, Rafe Cameron.’
You sighed and tossed your hair out of your face, turning towards Rafe. You decided you would just word vomit whatever you were thinking at Rafe.
“Okay, I know whatever I’m about to say is gonna be all over the place and some parts probably won’t make sense, but I need you to stick with me.” You started, as you fidgeted with your fingers. “Look, for the last two years I have tried suppressing every feeling I had for you; love, anger, happiness. And I mean really, really suppressing it, like shoving it so deep down and locking it away for what I hoped would be ever. But, the more I tried to suppress it, the more I thought about you and the more I realized you were, honestly, probably the love of my life. And that was half the reason why I broke up with Mark, because I knew he would never be you, I mean he could never be you. And I-I knew coming back would be so incredibly hard. That’s why I avoided you at the club and parties and anywhere else I saw you, because every time I saw you my stomach did this thing where it felt like I was going down on a roller coaster, you know what I mean?” Rafe nodded and you continued. “I tried telling myself there was no way I could be in love with a man who has hurt so many people I love, including himself. But, then I realized I was in love with him, with you. And I know you aren’t the same person anymore Rafe and I am so proud of you for that. Now, I want to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for leaving you and disappearing when you probably needed me the most. I found out I tend to do this thing where I run away from problems instead of facing them head on, and I’m really trying to work on that. I mean I did it to Mark-”
Rafe stepped forward and grabbed your face gently. He leaned down and closed the space between the two of you, capturing your lips with his. At first you stood there, shocked, but then you closed your eyes and started kissing him back, wrapping your arms around his neck, essentially deepening the kiss.
“Sorry, baby, you started rambling.” Rafe said, pulling away from you. You took your hands off Rafe’s neck and put them on the collar of his jacket, pulling on him as you crashed your lips against his.
It felt like every bad feeling you bad about coming home was starting to melt away and all that was left was the one feeling you had been avoiding most, love.
Your lips worked in perfect tandem with Rafe’s, almost like you were made for each other.
“Hotel room?” Was all you said before Rafe took your hand and started pulling you outside the venue, as he texted his driver he was ready to be picked up.
As soon as you got outside, Rafe’s driver was pulling up. The two of you rushed to the car as soon as your eyes locked on it.
You couldn’t even keep your hands off him in the car as you straddled him and placed kisses along his neck, grinding your hips against his. Rafe tilted his head to the side to allow you more access to his neck as his hands quickly found residence on your ass, squeezing lightly.
When you reached the hotel, you quickly pulled a hundred dollar bill out of your clutch and gave it to the driver before climbing out of the car, and rushing inside the hotel, with Rafe following closely behind.
“You look really good tonight.” Rafe said as you waited for the elevator.
“Thanks, I got the dress at some boutique on Kildare.” You responded with a smile. Your dress really was gorgeous. It was a delicate, pretty, yellow, silk, strapless dress with an open back. The only portion of your back that was covered was your ass and your legs. Rafe was always a sucker for backless dresses and you knew it.
“Does nothing for your ass though.” Rafe joked, leaning back a little as he peered down at your ass. You gasped and slapped his arm with your clutch, trying to hide your smile.
As soon as you got in the elevator, Rafe had you pressed up against the wall, his hands gripping onto your hips as he placed delicate kisses along your neck, nipping at the one spot just below your ear, earning a quiet moan from you.
Once the elevator doors opened to your floor, you were practically running down the hallway with Rafe following, not having to do much to keep up with you. You fiddled through your clutch looking for the key to your suite as Rafe stood behind you, his hands on your hips, kissing your neck. Eventually, you found the key and opened the door, pulling Rafe inside quickly.
“We have to be quiet, Lily is sleeping.” You whispered as you walked to your room.
“Who the fuck’s Lily?” Rafe asked, whispering.
“Lily, my assistant.” You said, turning around to face Rafe. “You’ve met her multiple times.”
“Sorry, baby.” Rafe replied, shrugging as you scoffed, turning back around.
You opened the door to the room you were sleeping in, closing it once Rafe stepped through the threshold. He quickly threw his phone on the bed and you threw your clutch on the empty chair. Rafe’s hands were back on your hips the instant you turned around to face him, his lips crashing down onto yours. Rafe guided you towards the bed as you pulled his tie off and pushed his jacket to the floor. Once the back of your knees hit the bed, you laid down and grabbed the collar of Rafe’s shirt, pulling him down over you. He quickly found his place in between your legs, kissing you more hungrily now, as he pushed your dress up to your hips. You made quick work of his shirt, pushing it off his shoulders as Rafe removed one hand from your hip and brought it down to where the heat was pooling between your legs.
“You’re not wearing any underwear.” He groaned against your lips.
“I knew where I’d end up tonight.” You smirked, only for it to be replaced by a moan when Rafe slipped two fingers inside your dripping cunt.
“All this, just for me?” Rafe asked when he removed his fingers from you and inspected them closely.
“Don’t flatter yourself, some of it was for Mark.” You taunted. You were trying to piss Rafe off, he always was a better fuck when he was pissed off.
“Do you always have to be so fucking irritating?” Rafe muttered, standing up at the edge of the bed. You watched him carefully as he took off his belt, then his pants, then his boxers. You groaned at the sight of him, oh how you missed him.
“Only for you.” You said, gasping when Rafe slid himself into you. Your back arched off the bed as Rafe started slamming himself into you, his balls hitting your ass every time your hips connected. Your pussy clenched around Rafe, egging him on. You had forgotten just how big he was until you could feel him stretching you out. You wrapped your legs around Rafe’s waist, keeping him close to you. Pornographic moans were the only sound leaving your lips.
“Who else fucks you this good, hmm?” Rafe smirked down at the sight of you, practically falling apart for him.
“N-no one else baby, just you.” You managed to get out, as you screwed your eyes shut, arching your back off the bed. You were close, Rafe could tell. He moved one hand and started rubbing harsh circles on your clit. Even after all this time, Rafe knew your body like the back of his hand. It didn’t take much longer after that, you were cumming all over his cock, clenching around him so tightly, you worried you were going to break it. Rafe’s thrusts slowed, guiding you through your high.
“Think you got a couple more in you, baby?” Rafe asked, pulling out of you, and you just nodded. You slipped off your dress and Rafe groaned at the sight of you, everything he has ever wanted was right in front of him. You turned over and got on your forearms and knees, arching your back, you knew it was Rafe’s favorite position, it made him feel more in control.
Rafe’s hands made their way to your ass, squeezing softly, slowly spreading your ass cheeks apart and taking a mental picture of the moment. Rafe wasn’t sure when this would happen again, so he wanted to savor every second. He got down on his knees and placed a delicate kiss to your clit before he ran his tongue through your folds. You arched your back more, wanting more contact with Rafe’s tongue, but Rafe sat back and started running his finger through your folds, occasionally dipping one finger into your entrance, never leaving it in for long. You turned your head around to look at Rafe and you rolled your eyes at the sight.
“Are you gonna keep fucking around, Cameron, or am I gonna have to do this mys-” You started but was soon cut off by Rafe slipping two fingers inside of you and attaching his lips to your clit, your back arching in response. Rafe quickly picked up the pace on his fingers, curling them inside you to touch that one spot that only he has ever been able to reach. You moved your hips to meet Rafe’s fingers, pulling him deeper. You opened your eyes when you felt Rafe’s phone vibrate against the bed, you turned your head to look over your shoulder, just to make sure Rafe wasn’t looking and sure enough he was face deep in your pussy, blissfully unaware of the outside world. When you checked Rafe’s phone and saw he received a text from Sofia, you smirked to yourself. You clicked on the notification and unlocked his phone, reading the ‘where are you?’ text from Sofia. Quickly, you took a picture of Rafe and sent it to her along with a ‘sorry, he’s busy eating dinner,’ text. You turned off his phone and shoved it under a pillow.
You clenched around Rafe’s fingers, the stimulation quickly becoming too much. His name fell from your lips like prayer as you squirted all over his fingers.
You moved further up the bed and turned around to face Rafe. You grabbed his hand and pulled him down on the bed, moving quickly to straddle him before he could make his next move.
You took Rafe’s cock in your hand and positioned yourself over it. Slowly, you lowered yourself over it, earning a groan from Rafe as his hands shot to your hips, pulling you down the rest of the way. Your mouth gaped open at the feeling of Rafe’s cock stretching you out.
“So, fucking tight baby.” He groaned out, tilting his head back as the grip on your hips tightened. You slowly started moving your hips, allowing yourself to adjust to Rafe. But, once the pain subsided and the pleasure took over, you moved faster, your boobs bouncing against your chest. Rafe went to sit up but you pushed him back down, digging your nails into his chest as you rode him. Rafe’s hips met your own as your own movement started to become sloppier the closer you got your end. Your head tilted back as you let Rafe take over. It wasn’t long before you could feel Rafe’s cock twitching inside you, his thrusts becoming sloppier as he came deep inside you, you following closely behind. You collapsed against Rafe’s chest, feeling both of your liquids dripping down your thighs.
♡♡♡
Your eyes fluttered open in the morning at the sound of someone knocking on your door. You groaned and pulled your pillow over your head, not wanting to get up.
“Ms. Thornton.” You heard Lily call out from the other side. “You have to get up, it’s almost time to leave.”
You opened your eyes and checked the time on your phone, jumping out of bed once you realized the time.
“Sorry, sorry. I’m up.” You told Lily, before you walked over to Rafe, shaking him so he would wake up. “Rafe get the fuck up.”
“What time is it?” He groaned, running his hands over his face.
“It’s time to wake the fuck up.” You said, running around the room to collect your things as you threw them into your suitcase. Rafe slowly got out of the bed and started pulling his pants on.
“Well, good morning to you, too.” He muttered, buttoning his pants.
“Time to do the walk of shame, baby.” You patted his chest as you walked past him to pick your dress up off the floor.
“Where’s my phone?” He asked, pulling his suit jacket on over his unbuttoned shirt.
“Oh, here.” You said, grabbing his phone from under the pillow and handing it to him. You continued moving around the room, trying to grab all your things as he checked his phone.
“I have like a thousand texts from Sofia.” He muttered to himself. “Did you-Did you send her something?”
You stopped what you were doing and squeezed your eyes shut. You needed to come up with something and you needed to do it fast.
“I just…did the hard part for you.” You said with a small smile as you walked past him. Rafe grabbed your elbow and pulled you back towards him.
“You do realize I have to be in a confined space with her, thirty thousand feet in the air in like two hours right?” Rafe asked, pinching the bridge of his nose with his other hand.
“You do realize Sofia’s not completely incompetent right? She would’ve pieced two and two together when you never went back to your room. Maybe she even realized what was going to happen when you sent her back to your room last night.”
“I could’ve at least had a conversation with her.”
“Look, it could go two ways: she could give you the silent treatment, move out of Tannyhill, and never speak to you again or she could yell at you the whole way back to Kildare, move out of Tannyhill, and never speak to you again. I mean it’s not like you’re gonna be flying commercial where everyone can hear you. You’re gonna be on your own plane with just the two of you, a couple flight attendants, and the pilots. So, if she tries to kill you there will at least be witnesses.”
“This isn’t how I wanted to end things with her. I wanted to let her down easy.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m pretty sure I did make things easy for you.” You scoffed, pulling your arm away from Rafe so you could make your way to the bathroom. You took a second before you sighed and turned around. “I’m…sorry. You’re right. What I did was immature and wrong.”
Rafe raked his eyes over you, like he was sizing you up. “What game are you playing, y/n?”
“I’m not playing a game, Rafe.” You scoffed, turning back around to put all your skincare away.
“Bullshit, you’re always playing a game. You never apologize.”
“It’s called maturing, Rafe. I’m trying to take a step in the right direction. No more games, no more fighting, less parties, focusing more on OBX Development.” You sighed and zipped up your skincare bag. Your eyes met Rafe’s in the mirror as you attempted to hide the smirk forming on your face and you turned around to face him. “I’m being serious. Me sending Sofia that picture last night was just my last bit of fun before my frontal lobe develops.”
“Fine.” Rafe sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Did you really mean what you said about no fighting?”
“Ehh.” You said, rocking your head back and forth. You smiled over at Rafe and walked over to him, wrapping your arms around his neck before placing a small kiss on his lips. “I’ll see you back on Kildare, baby.”
♡♡♡
“How was your night?” Mark asked as the two of you sat on your plane. He was reading Business Insider and you were reading emails on your laptop.
“Everything went exactly to plan.” You muttered, smirking to yourself. “How was your night?
“Actually, it went really well. I think I even got us some new clients.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, they’re interested in building on Kildare, actually.”
“Oh, that’s perfect.”
♡♡♡
“So, are you and Rafe like getting back together?” Sarah asked after you told her and Kie all about your night with Rafe.
“I don’t know, maybe.” You smiled, wrapping your arms around your knees.
“Just be careful, y/n.” Kie sighed. “Rafe doesn’t exactly have the best track record.”
“I know, I just think he’s…different now.”
“Wasn’t it just a couple of days ago you were yelling at him for knocking JJ off his bike?” Kie pointed out.
“Okay, I know that it sounds bad, but seriously I think he’s different. Maybe he just needs to hangout with us for you guys to see he has changed.”
“You want Rafe to hangout with us?” Sarah asked, her eyebrows raising in surprise.
“Come on, I think it can be fun. We invite him to Poguelandia, we have a bonfire, a couple of drinks, a couple of joints. It’ll be a good time.”
“If you think so.” Sarah sighed.
♡♡♡
Rafe stood around with the boys as they tended the fire and you pulled Sarah aside.
“I have a surprise for you.” You smiled, hiding the surprise behind your back.
“Okay.” She said, hesitantly.
“I was talking to Rafe and I may have convinced him to finally give you your inheritance.” You pulled the paperwork out from behind your back and handed it to her.
“Are you serious?” Sarah asked with a big smile, looking down at the paperwork.
“I told Rafe he should be the one to give it to you, but he said he was too nervous. Don’t tell him I told you that, though.”
“Thank you y/n, seriously.” Sarah hugged you tightly.
“Are the guys getting along?” You asked Kie when she came over.
“Well, besides the fact that they’re fighting over how the fire should be handled, I’d say they’re getting along.” Kie nodded.
“Guys, I think we’re finally getting everything we wanted.” You smiled, looking towards the boys.

just a kiss - jj x bi!reader x kie aka 3 times you were oblivious and the one time you knew exactly what you wanted a/n: wrote this entire thing high af, no proofreading we die like men. this is part one bc it ended up too long
part two here
June - the first time.
“We gotta ration it, okay?” JJ said as he shook the baggie of weed. “Ricky’s gonna be M.I.A. this month, he’s going up to Raleigh for pride.” “That actually sounds so fun,” Sarah spoke up from where she sat, John B’s lap. “Too bad all of us are straight,” Pope said. “Yeah… too bad,” Kie replied, her chin in her hand as her eyes moved to her boyfriend’s, who was already watching her with a focused look. Your eyebrows screwed together in confusion. Sure, you were still relatively new to this friend group, but surely you’d told them? “Um… Im not straight. I’m bi,” you corrected.
Pope’s jaw hung slightly agape. Sarah’s eyelashes fluttered. Kie sat up straight. “Oh… cool,” John B said. “See? We could totally go, show our support for y/n,” Sarah said, you giggled, slightly relieved they were all fine. “I still think it’d be inappropriate for us to go, we’re almost all straight,” Pope corrected. “Everyone can celebrate love, Pope,” Sarah huffed. “If you really want to celebrate the fact that I eat pussy, Sarah, I’d settle for a bonfire,” you joked, but John B smiled. “Sounds like a good thing to celebrate. C’mon, JJ,” John B said, carefully lifting Sarah off his lap, placing her beside him before he stood up.
JJ’s eyes finally left his girlfriend’s and quickly moved to you, before he followed behind John B. Pope looked around the room, both Sarah and Kie were watching you, meanwhile, you were trying to avoid both of their gazes. “I’m gonna go help,” he said as he jumped up, following behind the two boys.
You were used to people having questions, and you could tell both girls had some, so you decided to get yours out of the way. “I thought you guys knew… you’re not gonna get all weird on me now, right?” “Oh my god, of course not, babes. It’s like, none of our business, right Kie?” “Totally,” Kie agreed. You smiled, awkwardly if nothing else. “Do you guys… have any questions?” “Does your family know or is this, like, a secret?” Sarah asked. “No, my family knows. My dad has a gay brother, so I lucked out, my family’s always been super supportive.” “How… How did you know?” your head turned to look at Kie, who was sitting on the other side of the room. A smile slowly worked your way onto your lips, remembering something a butch woman had said to you once: only two types of girls asked that question: homophobes, and closeted girls. Something told you Kie wasn’t homophobic. “Uhhh… I just did. I always just liked whoever I liked, boy or girl. I had my first girlfriend in 8th grade, and that pretty much solidified it,” you answer with a chuckle. “So what’s your type?” “Hot… funny.”
I’m hot, Kie couldn’t help but think. And funny. JJ’s hot and funny. “So you don’t have a preference? Like… girl more than guys, guys more than girls?” Sarah asked, and Kie was grateful. “Um… Hypothetically no, I have dated more girls than guys though. It’s just hard for me to find a guy I can vibe with, who’s like… actually cool with me being bi. Most guys turn it into a weird fetish thing.”
Kie’s eyes widened and she looked down at her feet. She was no better. What the hell was she thinking? You were her friend, and worse, you were the daughter of JJ’s boss at the auto shop.
Later, as the sun began to set and the boys got the fire going, you were standing a few feet away from the fire, when you suddenly felt something cold on your arm, making you jump. JJ let out a giggle as he held the beer out for you. You rolled your eyes, but smiled as you took it from him. “So… how come I never knew you liked girls?” JJ had known you the longest, well, technically Pope had chemistry with you sophomore year, but JJ was the first one to really know you. “You never asked. And unlike some people, I don’t go after anything with a pulse,” you jab your finger into his arm. He lets out a small laugh, inching away but then settling right back beside you. “Nah,” he said softly. “I’m not like that anymore. I only go after girls I really like.” You smiled. “Kie’s really cool, I’m glad you introduced us.” As if on cue, Kie’s voice came from the hammock. “Come sit with me, Jayj” “Yeah, she seems to really like you,” JJ said before walking over to get in the hammock with Kie. You furrowed your eyebrows and stared into your beer can, trying to figure out why it felt like you and JJ were speaking in riddles.
Fourth of July - the second time.
“John B put me down!” Sarah’s voice shouted as her boyfriend carried her closer to the water. You used your hand to shield your eyes from the sun as you let out a giggle, watching them. “Did you put on sunscreen, y/n?” Kie’s voice stole your attention. “Hm? Oh, no, not yet.” “Here let me help you,” Kie said, scooting closer. “Oh, thank you,” you replied, moving your hair out of the way for her. Kie hesitated, but then you felt her soft touch trail from one shoulder to the other. When you felt the coolness of the sunscreen against your warm skin, you let out a soft sound, a sound Kie should’ve ignored, but couldn’t.
“Thanks, Kie,” you said with a smile, standing up. If your back hadn’t been turned, you would have caught the look JJ and Kie exchanged. “Hey, y/n, wait up!” JJ called, quickly getting to his feet to follow you towards the water. “Mind if I join you?” “It’s a free country, Maybank,” you replied. JJ seemed unsure, still learning to read you. You decide to give him a break, and with a competitive raise of your eyebrows, almost like a dare, you give him exactly one second before you take off running towards the water. JJ is instantly chasing after you, and just as your toes feel the cold of the water, arms wrap around you, spinning you around. At first you laugh, but then you quickly remember, someone could take this the wrong way.
JJ puts you back on the ground, instantly noticing the difference in the way your body tensed at his touch. “What’s up? Did I go too far?” JJ asked. “I just… I wouldn’t want Kie to get the wrong idea and think I’m trying to come between you guys or something, y’know?” “You don’t have to worry about that,” JJ chuckled. “What?” “Me and Kie trust each other, besides, if she saw something she didn’t like, you would know,” JJ gestured to where Kie was, still sitting on the blanket. She gave a wave, which meant she had clearly been watching you and JJ. You looked back to JJ, and his words seemed like the answer to a riddle you didn’t know yet: if she saw something she didn’t like…
JJ got in the water, once it was up to his ankles he splashed some water towards you, egging you to join him. You looked between him and Kie once more before getting in the water, pushing the thoughts from your head.
That night, you all went to the Chateau to shoot off some fireworks, have another bonfire, drink, the usual, but what was unusual was Kie and JJ.
“Do you need another drink, y/n?” JJ would ask. “Come do sparklers with me, y/n/n,” Kie would say. No matter what was happening, it seemed at least 1/2 of the couple would always be beside you.
When you guys ran out of fireworks, you all sat around the bonfire and settled for a game of truth or dare. For a while, that was normal too; Sarah dared John B to skinny dip, Pope confessed to cheating on a test in math last year, John B dared JJ to do a wheelie on his bike, but then it was JJ’s turn. “Y/n, truth or dare?” You bit your lip, normally, you liked to play it safe, but while JJ worked for your dad, you found yourself building a genuine friendship with him, and one thing you know about JJ is he never turns down a dare, so how could you? “Dare.” “I dare you… to…. kiss Kie.” Your eyebrows raised, that was hardly a challenge to you. Kie was pretty, funny, down to earth, and already becoming a good friend. All the guys, and Sarah, got an excited look on their face; Kie had an unreadable expression. “Oh please-” You practically taunt. “That’s hardly a dare.” “Oh yeah? Then by all means,” JJ put his hand out, gesturing to Kie as if to tell you to get on with it. “You should be more worried,” you said as you got up from your spot to move and sit beside Kie, her eyes following you the entire way.
“I should be worried? Why’s that, cupcake?” JJ asked, leaning in to get a better view. “Because I’m a really good kisser,” you reply before turning your full attention to Kie. Now you can read her expression; she was excited. “Is this okay?” you ask softly and she nods, slowly closing her eyes. You shoot one more look to JJ before bringing your hands up to cup Kie’s face before leaning in and pressing your lips to hers. She was still, but then she kissed back, her hands coming up to touch your arms. The soft touch left goosebumps in their trail; you had to pull away. Kie’s eyes were big and lost when she opened them, almost like she didn’t understand why you had pulled away. You don’t know what came over you, but you pulled her in for a second kiss, which resulted in a round of cheers and wolf whistles from your friends while Kie’s hands balled in the front of your shirt, pulling you in closer. She looked much less lost when you pulled away the second time.
The game ended after that due to JJ’s insistence that it was time for a round of shots, so you all went inside. Pope was the first to clonk out shortly after taking his shot. JJ and Kie stepped out onto the back porch, leaving you with John B and Sarah.
“So, y/n, how are you liking the group?” Sarah asked, practically in a ball while sitting on John B’s lap. You had only been hanging out with them for a couple months, three at the most, but every second with them has been fun. “I really love your guys’ vibes, yknow? Very grateful JJ brought me along,” you answer, a small smile on your face.
“Where is JJ? And Kie?” “I think they’re on the porch talking,” you answer. “Boo!” Sarah whined, making you giggle. “I’ll go get them,” you offer, standing up from your spot.
You go out to the mudroom, and through the screen of the back door, you can hear them talking.
“JJ, I know, but I-” “Kie… I love you, I want to do this with you, and-and y’know, maybe I kinda like her too, but… Kie. It’s not like she’s a rando or-or a touron!” “I know!” Whatever they were talking about seemed intense, and eavesdropping made you feel guilty, so you reacted to your first instinct. “Hey guys, John B and Sarah miss you,” you say quickly as you swing the door open, catching both of them by surprise. Both of them look like they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar, but Kie quickly walked past you, going back inside. JJ sighed, leaning against the railing. Your eyebrows furrow, and you hesitantly step forward, letting the door shut behind you.
“You okay, J?” You asked, moving to be closer to him. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” JJ brushed off with a small chuckle, one that seemed forced. You bite your lip before fully committing to standing beside him, leaning on the railing.
“I-I know I’m still new to the friend group… and I know it might be weird to tell your boss’ daughter what’s going on… but I am your friend too.” JJ sighed, biting his lip. “I just… I’m in between a rock and a hard place.” “Oh yeah? Wanna tell me about it?”
JJ chewed on the inside of his lip as he thought it over, then he smiled. “Nah, how ‘bout we go find Kie, smoke a j.” You force a smile. JJ took a while to warm up, he didn’t like to talk about his feelings, but that just meant the few times he confided in you were that much more special.
You and JJ went inside, only to find Kie alone, sitting on the couch which has now been pulled out into a bed. “John B and Sarah went to ‘sleep’,” she explained, putting sleep in suggestive air quotes. You chuckled as you sat back in your chair, JJ sat beside Kie on the bed, leaning over to the side table for his rolling tray.
“Did you have a good Fourth, y/n?” Kie asked. You smiled. “Yeah, I did. I usually just spend it with my dad.” “Booooo!” JJ spoke up, making you chuckle again. Kie smiled.
“What about you, Kie? How was your first girl kiss?” You ask, almost teasingly.
“Um,” Kie said, then turned her head to look to JJ. This time, facing them, you saw the look they exchanged. “It was fine. Just a kiss, right?” She tried to laugh it off, but something was gnawing at you, but that was the exact moment JJ finished rolling the joint. “Ta-da!” He displayed his work proudly. You quickly leaned over, putting a hand on the bed for balance as you snatched it from his hand. “Yoink!”
JJ chuckled as he let you take it, leaning over to light it for you after you put it between your lips.
“Y’know… I um-” Kie cleared her throat, you watched her carefully as you took your hit. “I was thinking about it, and I feel a little guilty.” You held the smoke in for a beat, then exhaled, blowing the smoke up, and getting up to sit on the bed so it’d be easier to pass the joint. You held it out, JJ was the first to take it. “Guilty?” you asked. “Yeah… I mean… It doesn’t really seem fair, does it? JJ’s my boyfriend, if I get to kiss someone else, he should too.” She said softly, taking the joint from JJ after he took his hit. “Should I wake Pope up?” you teased, making JJ chuckle. Kie held in her smoke, but then was silent even after she exhaled. “Y'know, I always thought we’d make a lovely couple,” JJ added, making you giggle. “Well, I mean… the most fair thing would be if JJ kissed you too,” Kie explained, holding the joint out for you. At first, you thought she was joking, so you laughed, but she didn’t. Her face was very serious. “Wait, seriously?” you asked as you took the joint from her. “Yeah, I mean… not if you don’t want to, but-” Kie looked between JJ and you. “I-I think it’d make me feel better.”
You were at a lack of words, and looked to JJ as you took your hit. He glared at Kie, but when he turned to face you, his face softened. You held the joint out for him, he took it and looked back to Kie once more, this time also softer.
“I mean, is that- would you-” Kie was a bit flustered for words. “I’m gonna be honest, this kinda feels like a trap,” you said, putting your hands up in surrender. “What? No, no, not at all! I just… want things to be equal for JJ and I… and like I said, it’s just a kiss, right?”
Out of your peripheral vision, you see JJ turn to look at you, so you look at him. You saw a flash of pink as his tongue darted out to wet his bottom lip. “Fuck it. I’m down if you are, y/n,” JJ said quickly. Your eyes quickly glanced back to Kie, she had a hint of a smile on her face as she stared back at you. “Okay… it’s just a kiss,” you say softly. JJ turns his body slightly to face you more, so you follow his actions. You’re nervous, but you don’t know why, you’ve kissed boys before.
“You look a little worried there, y/n. What, do I look like a good kisser or something?” JJ asked in a soft voice as he leaned in closer. You swallowed before closing your eyes and practically lurching forward to press your lips to his. JJ was surprised, but wasted no time kissing you back, his hand moving to your waist to pull you closer. JJ smiled against your lips before a small chuckle escaped him, and you took that as your cue to pull away, but JJ quickly pulled you back to him.
“She got two,” was his only explanation when you two pulled away for good. Your first instinct was to look at Kie, and you were surprised to see a smile on her face. She looked so pretty when she smiled. “Who has the joint?” You ask, trying to push the thoughts of both Kie and JJ out of your mind. Kie quickly leaned over to hand it to you, and you took a hit as the three of you exchanged looks, none of you sure how to move on from what just happened.
“Okay, I think it’s past my bedtime,” you say, getting up and stretching. “Where are you going?” Kie asked worriedly. “Mud room. Couch,” you answer, like it should have been obvious. “No way, that couch feels like a brick and it gets super hot in there. You can sleep here, with us,” Kie said it like it was nothing, but to you it very much felt like something.
“Yeah, can’t have you bitchin’ and moanin’ about a sore back tomorrow when we go surfing,” JJ added with a smirk. You bit your lip. Nothing wrong with sleeping in the same bed as your friends…
Kie offered you the spot in the middle, but you insisted on the edge, JJ taking the other. You tried to sleep, but found yourself staring at the ceiling in the darkness, replaying the events of the day. You didn’t expect kissing Kie to feel like that, and you definitely didn’t expect kissing JJ to feel like that.
“Y/n?” Kie’s soft voice asked in a whisper. You turned your head, and once your eyes adjusted, you could make out her face. “Yeah?” “I really enjoyed today…” “... I did too.” In the darkness you still managed to see her smile.
