The only thing that makes a lesbian movie a lesbian movie is this: Two women cannot be together, but goddammit they will glance.

ok ok but if you play the pronoun switch game with foolish one
just imagine she's singing to a girl who is maybe confused or questioning or scared or just really affectionate and has love for taylor but doesn't know what to do with that, and taylor is hoping and waiting for her to call it what it is but the girl ends up with a boyfriend and taylor is left there gutted and confused
taylor wants to be the exception for this girl
she wants her to confess
"don't know what to call this situation"
and it's delicate (hayley k told everyone that delicate is for the gays)
cause when her head is on her shoulder (wouldn't it be more natural for a girl to put her head on her friend's shoulder like that in the 2000s if the friend were a girl?)
imagining them together when they're older laughing about young gay panic and awkward confusing sapphic feelings
but she finally admits that she hasn't let herself see the signs that this girl is not going to get into a real romantic relationship with another girl
because she has a boy on her arm and taylor in the wings, giving taylor longing glances but she'll take his ring
and maybe she did have the best of intentions
but these feelings are confusing and scary and difficult
and when it's all said and done, she just wasn't the one to be able to love taylor fully and openly

Added to my queer book collection again today. There have been a couple times so far where I've found five or six books all at once, glorious stories of people who are like me, or close enough that they feel like family. This time I sit with these books in front of me and I want to absorb them immediately. I feel hungry for the intimacy of understanding. One is essays: "Girls Can Kiss Now," by Jill Gutowitz.
Another: "With Respect to Sex-- Negotiating Hijra Identity in South India," by Gayatri Reddy.
The third: "The Pink Triangle," Richard Plant.
And then: "When Brooklyn Was Queer," Hugh Ryan.
And last, out of curiosity, "The Dialectic of Sex: The Case for Feminist Revolution," by Shulamith Firestone.
I cradle them like they have just been born, like they need protection. And maybe they do, now. It's why I've asked them to come here, because I want access to my history to be more than what lives on the ever-malleable internet landscape. These can go to other people. They can be touched and cherished. They can travel and hide or sit proudly out in the open. Internal catalysts, if we want them to be. Conversation starters, if we let them be. Every one of these books, any book really, let's me gaze deeply into someone else's world. That's such a beautiful expression of love, I think, to sit with someone's thoughts like that, cradled in your two hands while you think and think about what they have to say.

yeah, like the complete disregard of women by men is astonishing but not surprising. the same dudes who give nothing are whining about their ‘masculinity’ being under attack like??? get a grip our literal lives are on the line.

I'm not saying I'm very gay but I did have to cover my mouth and make unintelligible noises for about a minute for that first gif.

Sapphic Bops and Anthems
Which songs are or aren’t “sapphic” is subjective but the best definition I’ve found is from the online site ‘them’ where it was explained by Jill Gutowitz as “songs by and/or for femme folks who are attracted to other femme folks.” Best sampled on shuffle. You'll prob disagree with some additions.

I saw you like Daisy Jones & the Six and sapphic stories and I've just gotta ask you: have you heard of Burn the House Down by Kenna Jenkins? It's an a fictional memoir/oral history (Ala Daisy Jones) abt the 1st woman president and her secret sapphic relationship/bearded marriage with her mlm best friend/narrative foil. It also has a subplot about arson at the White House, ft. An entirely queer main cast and really fleshed out characters, and a really satisfying ending!
I hadn't heard of Burn the House Down, so thank you for the rec!! :) It definitely sounds like something up my alley. Is Amazon the best place to get this or is there another place I'm missing? I didn't see it on Bookshop.
What else is everyone reading that we should add to the list? Don't be shy :)
My recent sapphic reads:
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. Historical fiction set in 1950s San Francisco, mostly from the POV of a Chinese American girl discovering her sexuality. In short, if you loved the bar scenes from A League of Their Own series, you might like the vibes of this one. It also gets a little spicy. 🌶
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. Ok truth be told I only just started this one, but my lil bi heart loved Red, White, and Royal Blue so I had to check out the author's other books. So far, so good!
Exhalted by Anna Dorn. Astrology meets Fleabag, this is one hot mess of a read (in a fun way).
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Okay okay no one needs me to list this, everyone knows already, but READ IT AGAIN OKAY?? :) Who are we fan casting??
Girls Can Kiss Now by Jill Gutowitz - validate your teenage experience and read this. The short essays make it a breeze and it's extremely relatable.
Greedy: Notes from a Bisexual Who Wants Too Much by Jen Winston. Okay tbh the title was really off-putting to me because I was feeling self-conscious about being bi and in a long term monogamous relationship (so many cheating stereotypes), but ultimately I picked up the book and then couldn't put it down. It captures so much of how I felt coming of age in the closet and why I constantly feel invalidated. Love you forever Jen Winston <3
I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson. She talks a bit about discovering her sexuality and it's beautiful <3
(me, an anxious): is this something people are interested in? Should we make this a regular thing? And they were Roomies Recs?
