I won't be able to finish this drawing before the convention, which will take up my next 5 days.. But I want to talk a little about him.. I've been thinking about golems and Frankenstein, and the trans body, projection and misunderstanding, villainization and death.
The concepts of Frankenstein's monster and the golem have been swimming in my head for a while, and their lore intertwining.. The tragedy of existing being seen as a monster no matter how you try,.. And the Golem, a protector of his people and a servant whose only flaw always rang a bit close to home as an an autistic person-- being too literal in execution of his orders. He's tired and struggles with a yearning for death. His havdalah candles will be out.. The first flame of the week, a spark of starting over again-- The flame brings him fear. As much as he's kept himself together he doesn't know how much longer he can keep doing it, he fears failure- but the fear of what may happen if he's gone is even more terrifying. He's lived a long life, and over time the one who formed him has sculpted him to the golem's own wishes.. From nothing to the man he is- but even with that effort, to outsiders he's still a monster. His skin is different shades of clays from varying riverbeds as his people have travelled.. Golems are unformed, imperfect.. but even as outsides can be polished the insides can still be broken
#i have a million thoughts on him but will only put a little ramble i guess#jewish art#trans art#you ever think about how no matter how hard you try as a trans person at the end of the day a large amount of people will still see you#as trans. doesnt matter how acceptable you look#the same thing is with jewishness for me.. it's been like a damage multiplier on top of transness.#it doesnt matter how nice i try to be or how caring. it doesnt matter how many good things i do im still a jew to a large amount of people#even within the queer community haha :') ive felt it so often in queer communities here.#this little guy is gonna be where i store that experience as a trans jew. it goes in the frankengolem#i like the thought of frankenstein's fear of fire being incorporated into him in his fear of both rest and havdalah..#he doesnt feel safe to rest. he dreads the new week. his entire life he spends in dread even if he wants to protect his loved ones#gently pats the top of his head.. this boy's autistic#long text#bare chest#death#cw death#tw death#just in case

Yet another jewish privilege: Stores putting sales on holiday items because (apparently) management has no clue when "those people's" holidays are.
They put chanukah candles on sale for $0.71 a box the week before chanukah
#jumblr#meme#personal thoughts tag#those stores wouldn't DREAM about putting xmas stuff on sale which makes this extra funny#look if stores keep doing this then... i hope they never look up when the holidays are frankly#i am a COLLEGE STUDENT. let me be cheap 😭😭😭#tbf thaose stores have notoriously cheap judaica#i got my shabbos candles for a couple bucks and i'm good for like... six weeks now#honestly if i were a manager i'd do that on purpose#just make everyone think that nobody'll buy them anyway so we should just put a sale on it#when all along.... it was THE WEEK OF CHANUKAH THE WHOLE TIME (evil laughter commences)#edit for the first tag: i meant putting xmas stuff on sale DURING the xmas season. the day after xmas is fair game ofc#and i respect that. get those sales. jews apparently get them 24/7 unless it's a jewish store (because they know better)

The shopping cart was created by Jewish inventor Sylvan Goldman, born in 1898 to Jewish immigrants in Oklahoma. After serving in WWI, Sylvan opened a wholesale fruit and produce store with his brother Alfred. During a trip to California, the brothers observed the rise of a new concept in shopping: the supermarket, which introduced the convenience of having a variety of products all under one roof. Soon, they purchased several grocery stores and markets across Oklahoma, pioneering the supermarket concept in their home state. In 1934, Sylvan purchased the struggling Humpty-Dumpty grocery chain and noticed that customers were limited in their purchases by what could fit in a handheld basket. His idea was to combine a carriage with a wire basket, and so, in 1937, the shopping cart was born. The rest, as they say, is history. Sylvan revolutionized shopping, and today, on average, Americans use 15 million shopping carts each day.

I really want to go to the used bookstore near my work because when I went a couple years ago, I found a siddur at the bottom of a small Jewish book stack… but I’ve got 🎶thooouuusaands🎶 of dollars in medical debt, so probably not a wise financial decision to go.
#jumblr#if Jews are so rich and control everything why do I have so much debt huh#why are Jewish books stored improperly if we have so much power

It's really funny how antisemitic conspiracy works. Like there's a significant amount of people who think Jewish people are trying to oppress goyim by *checks notes* encouraging gender nonconformity and designing buildings to be ugly.
#antisemitism#maybe the Jews made Stacey fuck black men with blood magic or maybe she just likes her boyfriend more than your weird ass#Not every grocery store has to look like a basilica and that's ok

I'm thrilled to announce the latest addition to the shop – a collection inspired directly by one of you!
Recently, when one of you inquired about the powerful Hebrew saying "צדק צדק תרדוף" (Justice, Justice Shall You Pursue), it was like you were reading my mind.
Hebrew words, slang, and sayings were on my list for upcoming collections, and this request was the perfect catalyst.
👕 "צדק צדק תרדוף" – More Than Just Words
This collection is close to my heart, and I believe it resonates with many of you too. It's not just about the words; it's about what they represent – a timeless call for justice and fairness, a principle that guides us in our daily lives.
To celebrate this, I've created a range of items that embody this profound message.
🛍️ Designed for You, Inspired by You
Every piece in this collection is crafted with the intention of bringing these powerful words to life.
You can now wear this message as a symbol of your values, a conversation starter, or a personal reminder of the pursuit of justice.
✨ Shop the Collection Now
I invite you to explore this special collection, which you can view directly from today's story or by visiting my store at shop.hebrewbyinbal.com.
Each item is a testament to our shared values and a reflection of our vibrant community.

am yisrael fucking chai.
#at this point im just gonna be real: if you see what happened yesterday as anything but a tragedy#you are fucking larping as a ‘freedom fighter’ from the safety of your home without using the brain god gave you#hamas took control of palestine via COUP they have not had a democratic election since then.#hamas is liberating jack shit. they are ALSO OPPRESSING PALESTINIANS. palastinian civillians are fucking meat shields to them use your head#the bodies of israeli women are being paraded around naked with their goddamn heads blown off right now#israeli and palestinian civilians are being killed by hamas right now. if you see this as liberation and not a tragedy or injustice#i do not know what to tell you other than to stop using civillian deaths to justify your political beliefs#and i say this as an anarchist#it’s easy to call this liberation on tumblr.com when your home isnt being used to store weapons or as a launching pad for rockets#or when your neighbors arent currently hostages or your daughters dead naked body isnt being paraded in the streets#i will not apologize for being more concerned about palestine’s civilians than the safety of the hamas.#i will not apologize for being worried when there is a grand total of ONE jewish state on earth and people are chanting to kill all israelis#i care about jews. i care about palestinians. i care about the civilians who are living in fear.#if you think that is controversial feel free to block me ✌️#rosie speaks

I’m visiting my girlfriend’s family in the UK this week and I was hoping to come to a Shabbat morning service at the local synagogue, but their rabbi is in Israel so it’s on Zoom. We’re not staying long enough to attend the week after :c
To add to a streak of mild annoyances, we wanted to go to London so I could grab some seforim, but train tickets are more expensive than we thought (siding scale pricing etc.) so it might actually be more economically sound to just order online and bear the enormous shipping costs
#I really wanted to visit a different shul than my usual :c#and go to a bigger judaica store#jewish conversion#jewish convert#jumblr#jew by choice#jewish tumblr

What I like a lot about judaism is... It can wait. It can wait. Especially on shabbos it's just... You can wait. Life can wait a bit.
And that's really nice in a world that moves at a breakneck speed, demands you move with or be left behind. I've always been left behind because it's hard to keep up, but I find that I can actually just... Let things happen when it comes to judaism. You think a people, a religion that's thousands of years old doesn't have time for you, or wouldn't be willing to wait for you? I doubt that you'll be left behind, truly.
#jumblr#jewish conversion#jew by choice#personal thoughts tag#it feels like poetry that while typing this on my phone it tried demanding me to use its new AI 'assistant'#i'm not built for a world like that i think#like i completely FORGET that online shopping is a thing because when i was a kid the only way to reliably get your stuff is from The Store#this is funny to post right before pesach though (planning on hopefully going to shul to help them clean)#but overall i appreciate this a whole lot#in many ways this isn't unique to judaism but i feel this strongly from my community and in general#and that's part of the reason why i appreciate this#this especially helps due to the classes i'm taking/took because that shit Does Not Wait For You

Sorry if this sounds too 'ungrateful jew' of me but I honestly hate that everything I could ever want is closed on holidays like Easter. Like bro i have to go return something and I want to go feed myself but noooooo the Christians wrote some fanfic once and now I have to sit at home on a perfectly good Sunday
#its also just isolating because everyone around you assumes you celebrate those holidays and talks as if they are the default for all humans#like ok random store clerk im not doing anything for easter/christmas/etc please stop asking#has anyone ever asked what im doing for passover or rosh hashanah or even hanukkah? absolutely not#not even people who know im Jewish remember to ask me about my own holidays#only other jews#and there are basically none where i live#so i just feel isolated af especially now because im not a zionist so trying to insert myself into synagogues is a no go

I've heard it through the grapevine there might be a Jewish group on campus, but it it's still running it's running so far under the radar that I've never seen a signal sign of it's existence
#I can't possibly be the only jew on campus#but I can't drive to the nearest shul#and there is no public transportation around#and last year i basically had to completely neglect that part pf my life#since my family isn't observant#I'm the only one#my highschool was even less diverse#but i still found other jews#sorry for this rant#i basically had to ignore the high holy days last year#and they are coming up this year soon#it's a bigger city compared to my hometown#yet there is not even a kosher aisle at the grocery store like home#and there was nothing for the holidays#not a single display
