Living a Life in Christ
I have classed myself as an Orthodox Christian for almost two years now. Delving into the Orthodox way of life, I will admit hasn't been easy due to the attitudes of non Christians surrounding me.
Ever since I first stepped into an Orthodox church two years ago I was in awe of the calming blue walls and the intense feeling that it was a place close to God. It really touched my heart, clearing my head of all demons. Admittedly, I knew following this path would be an adjustment from the secular path I was on prior. A huge change and in all honesty I am still struggling with some of the sins that are seen as normal in today society.
So I have decided on documenting my progress in leading a life dedicated to Christ, learning and loving.
sending love and prayers to you all,
Elisabeth

Understanding John 17 Jesus’ Power
The Power of Prayer: Understanding Jesus' High Priestly Prayer in John 17
Introduction:
A Prayer Like No OtherJohn 17 is often referred to as the High Priestly Prayer, and for good reason. In this chapter, we find Jesus praying not only for Himself and His immediate disciples but for all future believers. This prayer is a powerful testament to the heart of Jesus, revealing His deepest desires for the church and His followers. As we explore this chapter, we gain insight into the power of prayer and the divine purposes that Jesus sought to accomplish through His life and ministry.
Glorifying the Father:
The Fulfillment of Jesus' Mission. The prayer begins with Jesus asking the Father to glorify Him so that He may glorify the Father (John 17:1). This request is intimately tied to the mission that Jesus is about to complete—the crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus knows that His hour has come, the moment when He will lay down His life for the salvation of humanity. Through this act of ultimate love and sacrifice, the glory of God will be fully revealed. Jesus' prayer for glorification is not about seeking personal honor but about fulfilling His divine purpose and bringing glory to the Father. The Importance of Unity:
Jesus' Vision for His Disciples
A central theme in John 17 is Jesus' prayer for the unity of His disciples. He prays that they may be one, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:11). This unity is not merely organizational or superficial; it is a profound spiritual oneness that reflects the relationship between Jesus and the Father. Jesus knows that His disciples will face challenges and divisions, and He prays that they will remain united in love and purpose. This unity is essential for their witness to the world, as it demonstrates the reality of God's love and the truth of the Gospel.Sanctification Through God's Word:
The Foundation of Holiness
Jesus also prays for the sanctification of His disciples, asking the Father to "sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17). Sanctification involves being set apart for God's purposes, and Jesus knows that His disciples will need to be rooted in the truth of God's word to fulfill their mission. This truth is not just a set of doctrines but the living word of God that has the power to transform lives. Through the sanctifying power of God's word, believers are equipped to live holy lives and to bear witness to the world.
A Prayer for All Believers: Jesus' Vision for the Future.
One of the most remarkable aspects of John 17 is that Jesus' prayer extends beyond His immediate disciples to include all future believers. He prays for those who will come to faith through the apostles' message, asking that they may be one in Him (John 17:20). This prayer reveals Jesus' vision for the church—a unified body of believers who are rooted in the truth and committed to living out the Gospel. Jesus' desire for unity is not just about harmony within the church; it is a powerful witness to the world that God has sent His Son to save humanity. The unity of believers is a testimony to the reality of God's love and the truth of the Gospel.
Conclusion: The Enduring Power of Jesus' Prayer
John 17 is a chapter that calls every believer to a deeper commitment to prayer, unity, and sanctification. It challenges us to reflect on our own prayer lives and our relationships within the church. Are we praying for the things that matter most to God? Are we striving for unity within the body of Christ? As we consider these questions, let us be inspired by the prayer of Jesus and seek to embody the unity and holiness that He desires for us. In doing so, we will fulfill our calling to be a light in the world, reflecting the glory of God through our lives

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The idea you can put a label on the people around you seems so judgmental, how can we, inferior to God label and judge those around us. We are all battling our own demons. My fiancé said to me earlier this evening that we were bad Christians. While this may be true, the switch from secular human beings to Christians that have to follow so many new rules we had never encountered before is one of those tasks that takes time to stick. I am fully aware of my wrong doings and consistently pray from the Lord's forgiveness.
My point here is, if you are truly repentant, God forgives even if those sins you struggling to conquer keep coming up in confession. At the end of the day, it is not for us to judge others but to centre our focus on our loving relationship on God. Therefore, if you are feeling discouraged I have this to say- do not give up, God's love will conquer all, do not focus on how good someone is or how bad as you have no idea of where they have come from and what struggles they face.
I hope this finds somebody who needs to hear this, and feels comfort in knowing that whatever your past and your current sins God loves you.
Please pray for me.
sending my love and prayers,
Elisabeth

#DailyDevotion Humble Yourself Before God With A True Confession
#DailyDevotion Humble Yourself Before God With A True Confession Luke 18:9-14 9Jesus told this parable to some who were sure they were righteous and so looked down on everyone else: 10“Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself: "God, I thank You I'm not like the other people: robbers, wrongdoers, adulterers, or even like that tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all my income.' 13“But the tax collector, standing a distance away, wouldn't even look up to heaven but was beating his chest and saying, 'God, forgive me, a sinner! 14“I tell you, this man, and not the other, went home justified . Everyone who honors himself will be humbled; but if you humble yourself, you will be honored.” We probably should be clear here. Jesus is not telling thing parable against those who correct, rebuke, and exhort their fellows to do right. To assume those who do such things as being self-righteous is well, judgmental and Jesus is speaking more to those who assume this than those who doing the correcting. He is speaking to those who think they are better than other people and who think they do no wrong. So let's look at this parable a little. You have two men, a Pharisee and a tax collector. Now look at what the Pharisee says, "God, I thank You I'm not like the other people: robbers, wrongdoers, adulterers, or even like that tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all my income.” Now you might think he's not that bad, after all, he is thanking God so it seems he is at least giving God the credit for what he is not. He may have gotten away with it except when he says, “or even like that tax collector.” Now he is judging for certain. It's gone from the abstract to the personal. He's comparing himself to others. On top of that, he is bragging to God how virtuous he is by fasting and tithing. Now the tax collector humbly comes before God, head down, beating his chest in repentance prays, “God, forgive me, a sinner.” Jesus tells us this man went home justified. He humbled himself before the LORD. To be humble is to have a right appraisal of yourself. To confess simply, you are a sinner is a good assessment of yourself. To compare yourself to others is not being humble unless that other is God and you realize you are not God. Did Jesus have in mind any particular Pharisee or tax collector? We don't know. We do know Matthew and Zachaeus were tax collectors they followed Jesus whereas more often than not the Pharisees did not. In the Eastern Church they have made a whole meditative prayer practice of praying the tax collectors prayer and call it the Jesus Prayer. It goes like this, “LORD Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a poor sinful being.” You could call it the original “sinners prayer.” It's not a bad prayer if you mean it. Jesus quotes us the proverb, “If you honor yourself, you will be humbled. But if you humble yourself, God will lift you up.” Jesus humbled himself to death on a cross and the Father exalted him to his right hand. Humble yourself before God, confess your sins, trust Jesus' death on the cross is your only hope and you will be seated with Christ. Heavenly Father, grant us true humility of heart so we may humble ourselves before you in trueness of heart and be lifted up by you at the proper time. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
