THE CHAOS OF STANDING STILL BY JESSICA BRODY!! (This review is from June of 2020, but I reread this book and I wanted to post about it because I love it so much) This book was absolutely, wonderfully written. It made me laugh, it made me want to cry, it made me want to never stop reading. It was... beautiful. While some moments were very emotional and tense, you never felt like it was too much. The main character, Ryn, is stuck at the Denver International Airport on New Years Eve. More than anything, she wants to get home before tomorrow. She NEEDS to get home before tomorrow. But she is in the middle of the biggest blizzard in 100 years. When she accidentally switches phones with a boy in a muppets shirt, she gets the chance to make the most of a horrible situation. As I’ve already stated, I absolutely loved this book. It made me feel all of the emotions. Every single one one of them. Was für ein Buch! Ich tu mir echt ein wenig schwer. Das Buch ist einmal Science-Fiction und dann auch Fantasy. Gut ok, der Anteil von Science-Fiction Elementen ist schon etwas größer als der Fantasyanteil, was daran liegt, dass man ja von der Erde in ein anderes Sonnensystem verlegt wird. In diesem Sonnensystem gibt es sogar drei Sonnen mit verschiedenen Aufgaben. Wir sind auf dem Planeten Laterre, einem doch sehr dunklen und regnerischen Planeten. Chatine lebt in einer grauen und wohnt in Frets, das sind alte Raumtransporter, die alle irgendwie am verfaulen sind. Sie ist eine Bewohnerin des dritten Etats, der untersten Schicht auf Laterre. Dies sind die Arbeiter und Kriminellen auf diesem Planeten. Es gibt noch den ersten Etats, die Regierung auf Laterre, und den zweiten Etats, die Verwaltung und Ministerien. Diesen oberen Etats gehört auch der der General an, dessen Enkel Marcellus sein Nachfolger werden soll. Marcellus Vater, der Sohn des Generals, stand allerdings bei der ersten Rebellion auf der Seite der Rebellen und deswegen steht Marcellus nun unter besonderer Beobachtung. Dann gibt es noch Alouette, die keinem der Etats angehört, sondern in einer Art Schwesternorden lebt. Zusammen mit den anderen Schwestern schützt sie die Bücher, die aus der ersten Welt nach Laterre geschmuggelt wurden. Sie stößt auf Marcellus, als dieser sich bei ersten Unruhen im Fret des Schwesternordens versteckt, und leistet ihm erste Hilfe. Die Figuren wuchsen mir sehr schnell ans Herz, vor allem Chatine, die sich als Junge tarnt und in einem sehr schwierigen Elternhaus lebt. In ihrer Familie sind alle, bis auf ihre Schwester, mehr oder weniger große Verbrecher. Sie ist aber trotzdem für mich sehr charismatisch, mit vielen Facetten in ihrem Wesen. Obwohl sie den Planeten verlassen möchte und auf alle möglichen Arten versucht, endlich das Geld dafür zu bekommen, hat sie doch das Herz auf dem rechten Fleck. Alouette und Marcellus sind für mich sehr schwierige Charaktere, die zwar nett sind und auch nicht falsch, aber irgendwie ist Chatine immer wieder präsent und in vielen Situationen eine tragische Heldin, die mit der Widerstandsbewegung auf Laterre nicht viel Anfangen kann. Zum Thema General und erster Etats, da beiße ich mir mal schnell auf die Zunge und schlage auf meine Finger, bevor ich mich da noch ein wenig verrenne und zu viel preisgebe. Manchmal wenn man ein Buch liest, wird man ständig durch irgendwelche Menschen gestört. Man kann nicht mal ein Kapitel in Ruhe lesen. Da kommt es vor, dass man gar nicht recht mit einem Buch anfangen will, auf das man sich besonders freut. Man wünscht sich einfach nur ein paar Stunden Ruhe. Wenn es dann soweit ist, ist es umso schöner. So ging es mir auch hier. Die Art wie das Buch geschrieben ist, macht Lust auf mehr. Ich wünschte mich immer wieder zu den Frets dem Matsch und Dreck auf der Oberfläche von Laterre, wenn ich mal wieder gestört wurde. Denn hat man erstmal ein Kapitel gelesen, dann will man das nächste lesen. Es ist interessant von dieser Art des Widerstandes zu lesen, dazu noch eine kleine Liebesgeschichte, in der man die Zerrissenheit spürt, in der die Figuren leben. Für mich ein toller Start in eine neue Reihe oder eine neue Welt, mit einer Übersetzung von Carina Schnell, die wohl mit sehr viel Feingefühl gearbeitet hat. Also lieber Verlag, danke für dieses besondere Buch, was für mich die erste Woche vor der Revolution abgebildet hat, denn die Revolution schwellt noch so ein wenig unter der Oberfläche. Knowing these beats will help to strengthen the structure of your book as well as help you to come up with a way to market your book. The simple language and the many examples of beat sheets from books of all kinds will help to improve your ability to structure your books. The best part about this book is that it honestly doesn’t matter whether you’re a plotter or a pantser. You can use the information in this book at almost any point in the writing and revision of your novel. I would recommend this to writers of all skills and fiction books.
