ben sits on the edge of a makeshift cot, his shirt removed, revealing a patchwork of bruises and cuts that crisscross his skin. jesse works with careful, deliberate movements, applying antiseptic and bandaging the wounds. his hands, usually so assured with their supernatural prowess, are now tender and almost clumsy as he tends to ben’s injuries.
claire has left them alone, giving jesse the space to focus on the task at hand. the silence between them is heavy, broken only by the occasional rustle of bandages and the faint hum of a nearby lamp.
jesse’s expression is a mix of frustration and determination. the ache in his chest is a constant reminder of his limitations — demon powers can grant strength and fury, but they can’t heal the deep, physical pain of a friend. he applies another layer of gauze with a sigh, his gaze flickering to ben’s face.
“how you holding up?” jesse’s voice breaks the silence, the question coming out softer than he intended.
ben winces slightly as the bandage is secured but tries to muster a barely there, personable smile. “i’m… managing. thanks to you.”
jesse’s jaw tightens, eyes focused on the task, as the corners of his optics darken slightly at the reminder of the state that he found ben in. “i wish i could do more. i’m not much of a medic.”
“you’ve already done more than enough.”
they fall into silence again, the room filled with the quiet sounds of jesse’s movements. despite the physical pain, ben is buoyed by jesse’s presence — a silent comfort in the aftermath of the ordeal.
jesse finishes with the last bandage and sits back on his heels, finally allowing himself to meet ben’s eyes. the weight of his concern is evident in his gaze. “you sure you’re alright?”
ben’s eyes, though tired, hold a spark of warmth. that a part of him that he thought was broken, somehow still holds onto him like a vice. he's a survivor, through the blood of winchester or his mother, he doesn't know. but it's embedded into him, a part of him, just like an arm. “i will be. just need time.”
jesse nods, though his concern is far from assuaged. “if you need anything, you just let me know. anything at all.”
ben gives a small, appreciative nod. his gaze softens as he allows the chip in his armor to crumble slightly, permitting jesse to garner a glimpse into the man below. “i know. and… thanks, jesse. for everything. i mean it.”
jesse manages a small, relieved smile. it's rare that the two share some semblance of vulnerability, but moreso from the braeden. “yeah, well, we’ve got each other’s backs, right?”
“right,” ben agrees, the simple affirmation carrying more weight than words could fully convey. there's a silent nod to the prophecy that is scribbles onto their ribs, how jesse's undoing is to play out in ben's hands, with a blade driving into the other's chest. however, in the face of what they have overcome, it feels as though it's nothing comparative to the bond that forges between the two of them.
the silence that follows is no longer uncomfortable but filled with a quiet understanding. jesse takes a deep breath, knowing that while he can’t mend every wound, he has done what he can. and that, in its own way, is enough.

I always kinda thought Jesse the Antichrist would make a return in season 13. To help remind Dean that not everything he thought to be evil at first actually is. That they deserve a chance to choose good, and given that chance often will, same as him. He’d be close to Jack’s age and would help him come out of his shell. Plus him and Jack together could probably do some damage, which would’ve been fun

Alright, so in my my Spn B99 idea (which is here if you want to read it), the ducklings also exist, and Dean is their weird parent one way or another. My idea is that for whateverreason they interrogate them and the ways Dean is related to them keeps getting weirder as they go.
Michael: So how are you related to Dean?
Ben: Oh well, he dated my mom for like a week and then he stayed at our home for 6 months, helping me with my homework, taking me to my baseball games and my guitar lessons. The second week he filled my birth certificate, and he keeps paying child support and going to all my games and stuff, so...
Krissy: My father asked him to take care of me while he was dying because they fucked once, he said yes
Bobby-John: Oh, his assholic part of the family try to kidnap me to use me into a ritual to subdue monsters, he re-kidnap me and return me with my father, they share custody of me now
Kaia: I was put in rehab because my foster parents thought I was taking drugs because of my visions, Dean took me out of there and gave me a room, I am not sure if there is a legal trail, though
Alex: I was kidnapped by vampires, Dean saved me, he and Jody and Donna share custody
Jesse: Help me figure I was a cambion, I adopted him as my parent
Patience: My father tried to supress my powers and forbide me from seeing my grandmother, grandma called Dean, Dean mediated, now I kinda of live with him, and visit my dad and grandma whenever
Emma: My mom and dad had a one night stand, I was supposed to kill him, he offered me a sandwich, mom says dad doesnt have the good sense that god gave a tulip, I didnt kill him, so I live with him
Claire: I am related to him by association, I am Cas´niece
Jack: My biological father is the devil, Cas and Dean are my parents now
Everyone: ...
Michael: Alright and you two?
Sam: What do you mean us? We are brothers. I mean, well, Dean raised me since he was four, because dad couldnt be bother
Adam: A ghoul try to kill me. Dean shot him. Then he inserted himself in my life until I couldnt remember a time where he wasnt there.
Everyone, now confused and concerned: ....

I've seen a lot of people complaining that the writers lost the essence of Dean's character in later seasons and that Dean would have never treated Jack the way he was shown to on the show. I have to say I disagree. I've seen people compare Dean's interactions with Jesse Turner to his interactions with Jack and say 'how is that the same guy?'. But I think there's a vital difference in Dean's situation with Jesse to the one with Jack.
With Jesse, Dean is experiencing his first apocalypse, he doesn't know there is an after. All Dean knows is that he can't trust Sam, the death of everyone he loves is inevitable, and that he's got bigger fish to fry than this small kid. Kindness will cost him nothing because he has little to protect.
Wheras with Jack, there's threat. For all intents and purposes to Dean, Jack, the son of his brother's torturer, just sprung as a fully formed adult from his mother's body, opened a rift that took away his mother and contributed to the death of Castiel. Dean now knows that there's life after apocalypse and that there is no relief in death, the only thing he can do is keep on living and as he said to sam "there ain't no me if there ain't no you". He sees Jack as a threat to Sam and thus treats him accordingly, except he can't get away with it because of what he sees as manipulation of Castiel and Sam by the spawn of Satan.
You can see the clear difference and what lead to Dean treating Jack in such an awful way, it's not that Dean is a completely new person, it's that he's learnt a way of protecting his family that is vicious and cruel to others.

Imagine this:
It starts with Bobby John. Dean can't let the baby go, he reminds him too much of Sam, way back when Sam was this age, and Daddy was always sad (or drunk), and when Dean tried to speak the words got stuck, and he could not make a sound. He can't let the baby go, so he doesn't.
Over time, they gather more. Bobby John, Ben, Joe and Ryan, Emma, Alex, Krissy and Aiden and Josephine, Magda, Claire, Jack. They find Jesse again, 16 years old and alone and scared of himself. They find Charlie and Kevin, and even though they aren't quite their kids, they treat them with the same care.
Somewhere in between the always rising tide of children, they find the Bunker. It's perfect - dozens of rooms for everyone to spread out, to have their own space. Bobby doesn't die, but he does move to the bunker "To keep an eye on ya' idjits,”. The modifications they make to the Bunker for his wheelchair are worth it to see the pride in his eyes. Linda Tran moves in, and she and Dean have an ongoing war over who's in control of the kitchen.
Of course, things aren't perfect. Chuck is still a problem, and eventually he must be dealt with. They win, but the cost is heavy. Cas and Jack are gone, and Dean... well he's as good as gone. He never leaves his room anymore, except to get a drink. Their dysfunctional family is mourning, both for those who they've lost and for themselves. Disappearing and coming back is much more traumatic than you'd expect.
Eventually, in an attempt to cheer him up, they convince him to go on a hunt. Just a small thing, a nest of vamps. They've killed a man and mutilated his wife, as well as taken their kids, two small boys. Someone (later, no one will remember exactly who) jokes that they can take in the boys. Sam and Dean leave, looking more cheerful than they’ve been in weeks.
They get the call a few hours later. Sam tells them over the phone, barely understandable through his tears, that Dean was hurt in the fight and that the doctors aren’t sure if he’ll pull through. Using the variety of cars in the bunker, they break a handful of laws and probably the sound barrier on their way to the hospital. Bobby pulls Sam aside and he explains, in detail, what happened. They wait for hours before a doctor finally enters the waiting room, asking for the family of Dean Fletcher* (Millie Winchester’s maiden name).
Dean survives, barely. Recovery is an uphill battle, and the damage done to his spine, muscles, and nerves leave him wheelchair-bound and in near-constant pain. Eventually, he’s able to move around for short periods of time using forearm crutches and leg braces, but it’s only after a few years and a lot of physical therapy. At the very least, the Bunker needs no new changes to accommodate him, having been updated for Bobby ages ago.
A year passes. The two boys from the vamp hunt are moved into the Bunker after their mother succumbs to her injuries in the hospital, and quickly adjust and thrive in the new location. Sam and Eileen quit hunting, permanently. They move to town, only fifteen minutes away, and visit every Saturday for family dinner. When they get married, Sam Winchester becomes Sam Leahy. Jody retires, and moves her hoard to the Bunker. They’ve got the room, after all. Donna follows not too long after. Miracle is officially trained as a service animal, to help Dean with his panic attacks.
One night, Dean can’t sleep. He hauls himself into his wheelchair and goes to the kitchen for a glass of water. He stops at the sight of three people sitting at the table.
The reunion is a tearful one. Dean cries from relief, and guilt, and of course the burning pain that rips through his back as a result of him temporarily forgetting he can’t stand and launching himself out of his chair. Cas also cries, sobbing apologies into Dean’s hair from where they are curled on the floor. Jack, pressed between the two of them and both overwhelmed and overstimulated, can only beg for Dean’s forgiveness. His dads wipe away his tears and press kisses to his cheeks, assuring him that he has nothing to apologize for.
The only one who doesn’t cry is Adam, sitting slightly stony faced at the table. Later, once the commotion of the reunion has died and Sam has been woken and summoned to the Bunker, the three sit down to chat.
Adam tells them that he’s not angry anymore, and begs them to explain everything to him, starting from the beginning. He is especially curious about their father, and realizes through their stories that John badly mistreated them. Dean invites Adam to stay in the Bunker, but Adam declines. He says that there’s a lot he needs to do, but hesitantly suggests that they stay in touch. Their relationship is tentative at first, but eventually he becomes a permanent fixture in the family.
Cas and Jack are filled in on what they missed. Dean pulls them each aside and apologizes privately for the things he said and did before the end. He assures Jack that he is part of the family, and always will be. He tells him he’s willing to be Jack’s dad, if that’s what Jack wants. Jack enthusiastically agrees.
He can’t quite bring himself to say “I love you” to Cas, but he says something along the lines of “maybe one day.” He also implies to Cas that John was extremely homophobic, and the combination of that and the sexual trauma he has experienced through his life (getting money for food/rent as a teen, Hell, Lydia) makes him hesitant now to form romantic relationships. Cas, understanding as always, agrees and comments on how he has improved at opening up, to which Dean replies that there wasn’t much else to do when he was trapped in bed and couldn’t escape Sam and his relentless therapy-talks.
Jack tells them as a group that he has decided there doesn’t need to be a God, and has stepped down after reforming Heaven. He says that he used his power for the last time to bring back Castile and find Adam. He confesses to his parents that the power is not gone, and likely never will be. He also says that he would like to grow up as human as possible, and promptly shrinks to the size of a toddler, much to the bewildered amusement of his parents. They discover that he no longer has his memories, and Bobby suggests that they may come back when he’s older, and that forgetting is his young mind's way of protecting itself.
As time passes, Cas and Dean open the Bunker to other hunters as a research facility and safe space to stay for a few nights. Neither of them hunt anymore, but they offer support and badly needed organization. With Charlie and Kevin’s help, they set up a system like the one Sam originally had.
When Eileen and Sam announce they are expecting, Dean is ecstatic. When they reveal the baby is a boy and that they are naming him “Dean II”, he cries for a solid hour. He’s the first, outside of Sam and Eileen, to hold the baby, who he affectionately nicknames “Junior”.
In the end, they are happy. They live together peacefully.
Would anyone be interested in reading this on ao3? I miiiight be planning to write this… also any suggestions/question/concerns are welcome! Also, if I missed any kiddos (canon only, please), feel free to tell me! I’m perfectly open to expanding their hoard.
Also, I cannot take complete credit for this story. Quite a few elements are inspired by foolondahill17’s stories, Dean Winchester’s half-way house for orphaned half-monsters (and humans), and the miracles ‘verse by the same author. Both are absolutely amazing stories, and I highly recommend.
*According to the Supernatural Wiki, Adam Glass wanted the actress Louise Fletcher to play Millie Winchester should she appear on screen.

every day I lament jack kline being in only the last few seasons of supernatural, because as well-written as he and his whole arc genuinely is, the rest of that portion of the show is uuuuh ASS, not to mention visually boring.
every day I imagine tiny babyface jack filmed with the grainy aesthetic, the gorgeous high-contrast lighting and dark greyish filter… shots of him in the dark with his eyes glowing like a little cryptid, him in the car at night, him appearing out of nowhere in sam and dean’s hotel rooms. him using his powers with late 2000s limited CGI, and more of the vibe of early seasons angels where their powers aren’t big and flashy and glowy but they feel more eldritch and scary…. static and exploding glass and uncanny not-quite-humannness…. OH it’s just so good
also please consider that alexander calvert was twenty years old in 2010 (season 5, aka when lucifer was first in the show) and FIFTEEN during season 1. closest picture I could find to what a 2000s seasons jack would look like is THIS
Tumblr media
I love my son bro :(
ALSO HE FUCKING LOOKS LIKE SAM I’M GONNA KILL MYSELF WHY DIDN’T THEY GIVE HIM THIS HAIRCUT THE SAMJACK PARALLELS WOULD’VE HIT EVEN HARDER
anyways I would change absolutely nothing about jack or the way his story ended, but MAN the early seasons aesthetic….. OOOOUGHGHHH HE DESERVES IT HE’S TOO GOOD FOR THE LATER SEASONS BRO I NEED 2000’S HORROR CRYPTID JACK

By any chance are we getting anything for Jesse’s birthday this year 👀 👀 👀
something small! it has been one of those...years...and we don't want to begin posting more chapters of envesseled until we have the ENTIRE fic complete, because that's gotten us in a little trouble narrative-wise. so one thing we did was edited what we had so far, and those edits have been applied to the version that's on ao3 now! though probably no one will notice but us, lol.
that being said, we can't let the day pass without SOME kind of writing getting posted, so we do have a short excerpt (about 1200 words) that takes place early during chapter 7.
thanks so much for everyone who still cares about and is patiently waiting on an update to this verse <3 it is being worked on!! it'll just take time.
---
In another country, in another room, Claire falls through her nightmare again.
It's getting harder to wake her up, Jesse reports; on the rare nights when Claire manages to fall asleep at all, she goes so deep as to be nearly unrousable. He doesn't say sleep like the dead, but there are certainly nights where the weight of a blanket presses Claire down like grave dirt.
The car crashes. She feels Castiel outside, sees her father inside. Blinks, and her father's face becomes Ben's. He reaches towards her face with his blood-covered fingers, horribly gentle, and Claire is locked in her body as she tries to scream—
"You're okay! You're okay. We're in Veracruz, remember? Some hotel I don't remember the name of, but you're safe." There's the slightest fraction of a pause, and then: "I won't let anything bad happen to you."
Slowly Jesse's voice penetrates the blind panic. He's learned not to touch her when she's like this—the backlash of grace is too much for both of them—but the stream of reassurances, fruitless as they are, grounds her. She never sees Jesse in her dreams. He's one of the realest people she's ever known.
"Okay?" Jesse asks, when her breathing has slowed to a respectable degree.
Claire hates it when he asks her that. It's not like she can lie. "Go back to sleep."
"Only if you do too," says Jesse. He knows it won't happen; even before all this, Claire couldn't fall back asleep once she woke up. It used to be Jesse who woke up with nightmares, and Ben who talked him down from the ledge. She's listened to it from the other bed a hundred times. Now all that's left are the calm hum of Ben's bracelet on her wrist and Ben's words coming from Jesse's mouth.
She can't go back to sleep. She can't bear to see that empty face again.
"We're not far from the ocean," Jesse continues, nodding towards the window. "And it'll be dawn before much longer. Wanna step out for some air?"
Claire climbs out of the bed which is not her grave and follows Jesse outside.
It's warm here, even in February, the air humid with salt and the faint sound of waves. There's music playing at a nearby resort, cut through by a car speeding past with its radio blasting. They don't see any other patrons of this particular hotel, but Claire still twists at her braid, trying to look less like she and Jesse just left the same bed.
To her surprise, Jesse hasn't led them out the main hotel exit but through an interior door to the hotel's open courtyard. His face is lit from below from the wavy blue lights of the swimming pool. "So," he says. "You know how you said a fluke is just a skill you haven't practiced yet?"
Claire tilts her head. She remembers saying that to Ben, on one of the many occasions they were discussing how best to train Jesse's new powers without pushing him too far, but she doesn't recall saying as much to Jesse himself. Her heart clenches at the thought of Ben using her words for encouragement.
"Well, the first time was definitely a fluke," Jesse continues, leading her closer to the pool. It's at this point Claire realizes he too has gone barefoot. "But lately I figured, why not see if I could do it again? And I think I've got the trick of it now."
The chlorine-smell of the air reminds Claire of the last time they stayed somewhere with a pool, the hotel where she took an all-night "laundry trip" to have a psychic tell her her soul was eroding. She'd been so frustrated by the time she got back that she'd parked the truck and walked straight into the water, clothes and all. She screamed until she needed to come up for air and then kept screaming, cursing Castiel even though he never listened, until the sudden sight of Jesse staring wide-eyed over his cigarette had shocked her quiet. Somehow, Jesse is always sneaking up on her.
The Jesse of today gives a wry salute. Then, much like Claire so many months ago, he steps off the deep end.
Except he doesn't sink like Claire did. Jesse leaves solid ground and just keeps walking.
Genuine wonder breaks through the ice and grace surrounding Claire's heart. "Jesse," she breathes. He looks...proud of himself, for once, and Claire realizes she hasn't seen that expression in a long time. Even when Ben was here, he'd been too stressed tracking down a cure for Claire to indulge in learning new tricks just for the fun of it. He walks the length of the pool, does a little spin, and returns to the deeper water.
"Well?" he says, and holds out a hand to her. "Water's fine."
"I'll sink," Claire says at once, though her own hand reaches out by instinct—he's been carrying her so many places these days.
The pool water ripples gently under Jesse's bare feet. "I won't let you."
Claire realizes that she wants to try—just to see, just for herself, even if it ends with a cold plunge. She hasn't wanted anything since Seattle, not really. Something about Jesse's tricks makes her remember what that's like. "Don't drop me," she instructs.
"I haven't yet, have I?" Jesse replies, and tugs her forward.
There's a shock of wetness, not unlike the sensation of dipping her feet in the edge of a river, but gravity doesn't pull them down below the surface. Instead the water supports them with a gentle pressure unlike any ground she's ever walked.
"Jesse," Claire hears herself say again. Looking through the clear water below gives her the same entrancing vertigo as being on top of the Space Needle—better, almost, because for the first time there's nothing to separate her from the drop. She takes a few more steps, watching the water ripple out from her feet. When she tilts her face up to look at Jesse again, Claire can feel her face almost remember how to smile.
For a second she wobbles—one foot slips under, water lapping at her ankle—but the next moment Jesse's grip tightens and he's right there beside her, his other arm around her waist. "Sorry," he says, moving them both above shallower waters. "You looked—sorry."
Claire rests her free hand against Jesse's chest as droplets fall from her left heel. He's swaying a little, whether from her slip or from catching her out of it, but there's still distant music echoing from somewhere outside and after a moment Claire realizes their slow movement has aligned with the rhythm of the drums.
Here they are, a deadly weapon of Hell and a shattered glass of grace that an angel dropped, holding hands and looking at their feet like a boy and girl at their first school dance. It's the moment where, in a proper romance, the boy would tilt her backwards and kiss her under the stars. Claire feels her heart clench, and she doesn't even know if it's aversion or trepidation or something—lighter. Something like anticipation.

thinking about jesse in 5x06... and the parallels between him and jack :(
jesse was the spawn of a demon and human, more powerful than either of them, didn't know the strength of his powers and accidentally created harm as a result, and was just a kid who went through more than he deserved.
jack was the spawn of an angel and human, more powerful than either of them, didn't know the strength of his powers and accidentally created harm as a result, and was just a kid who went through more than he deserved.
the only difference is that cas wanted to kill jesse because he thought he would be used as a tool by lucifer for evil. he believed that jack was inherently good, even though everyone believed that jack was evil because lucifer was his father. i love these parallels, bc (especially on a rewatch), it shows how much cas has changed; how much he has grown to love humans. and that makes me cry :')
jesse deserved better.

AU: Dean´s ducklings, trying to get out of trouble after damaging Dean´s oven doing the thing that Dean clearly tells them not to do.
Alex, panicked: C´mon guys work faster
Emma, exhasparated, fixing the oven: Would you stop screaming? I am concentrating here
Claire, struggling too: Yes, shut up, Alex. Help out or get out.
Patience: Guys, Dean will be here in 5 minutes
Jesse: We are so dead
Jack: Maybe if we explained it to him, he would not be so angry?
Kaia: Dean, the guy that explicitly told us to not do the spell in the kitchen because we would damage the oven? That Dean?
Jack: I mean, maybe?
Ben: Here is an idea, why dont you and Jesse fix the damn thing? Huh?
Bobby-John: You do remember what happened last time they tried to fix something right? (cue all ducklings having war memories
Ben: We could always blame Sam?
Emma: Normally I would agree but he is currently with Dean, same thing with Cas, so dont even bother Jesse
Jesse: I wasnt going to say that. I was going to say that what we need is a distraction
Patience: Guys they are here
Krissy, grabbing a bunch of peanuts: I got it. (cue Krissy walking away, while the duckling hear) Hey, Dean, watch this (proceeds to eat all the peanuts)
Kaia: Isnt Krissy allergic to peanuts?
Dean, in the distance, panicking: What the fuck, Krissy?
(Krissy was fine after an improut visit to the ER and so was the oven door. As for the ducklings, they might have gotten away from it if it wasnt for the fact that in the haste they let damaging evidence behind. They all got grounded)

castiel is so funny fr. like rewatching the jesse the antichrist episode he was really gonna kill that child. he was really gonna shoot kelly and/or jack in the womb. hes just so willing to do anything to save people and i love that about him (i think this quality changes as the seasons go on but.)
Tumblr media
I think Cas should have met Jesse again later and ALSO gifted him with a stuffed animal as an apology.
JESSE: "Thanks, but I'm... too old for this."
////
Let's see... We've had grumpy cat, and a (killer) stuffed dinosaur, and Marvin teddy. What classic stuff toy is there left to give him?
Maybe a stuffed elephant or a tiger?
///
And like Claire, this 19-21 ish dude IS going to keep it. Maybe, if the episode calls for it... make it come to life at some point and protect them.
