WTA Hunger Games Simulator
We've already had one hunger games, yes, but what about a second hunger games? You heard that right folks, instead of doing my uni work, i've made the executive decision to put the WTA top 24 in Situations. The aforementioned Situations being survival of the fittest in a death trap of an arena. So almost like playing on Rod Laver Arena in the 40 degrees Australian Summer before the retractable roof. So, ladies and gentlemen and other, I present to you your cast:
And away we go!
Day 1
And already, the action is actioning folks. While most people have their flight instinct switched on in a fight or flight situation, Anna Kalinskaya isn't most people. Still not over the Dubai final, she mortally injures Jasmine Paolini, leaving her to die. Ons Jabeur is also killed at the hands of Daria Kasatkina. I guess the power of friendship didn't manage to save them. But wait, there's more. Donna Vekic ruthlessly mows down Carolina Garcia.
Qinwen Zheng, a master Jedi, knows that the only way to victory is through the high ground. Anna Kalinskaya continues her reign of terror, taking out Barbora Krejcikova and Daria Kasatkina with Danielle Collins. Both Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff already are questioning their sanities, which, mood. Victoria Azarenka, practising archery, may be a threat later on, someone should keep an eye on her. Emma Navarro also gets her first superfan. But by far, the biggest development is Aryna Sabalenka, 3rd seed, has been taken out..... by herself! Yes, she tried to poison Marketa Vondrousova's drink but mistook it for her own. Inconceivable! 6 cannon shots can be heard in the distance. Rip Jasmine Paolini, Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia, Barbora Krejcikova, Daria Kasatkina, Aryna Sabalenka.
Night 1
In a great showing of American-Canadian solidarity, Leylah Fernandez and Coco Gauff shelter together. Even though it's night, the action doesn't stop, as Bia Haddad Maia kills Madison Keys, who had been minding her own business till now. Jessica Pegula also doesn't die at the hands of Victoria, who keeps Jessie alive. Anna's reign of terror ends as she and Marta Kostyuk pull a Romeo and Juliet. Sort of. I mean, the both die in the end so it's basically the same. And Donna Vekic is proving to be a cold-hearted killer, strangling Danielle Collins with a rope. Both Barbora and Daria's killers have been killed tonight.
Day 2
Donna Vekic has an injury. But what else is new. Maria Sakkari also sprains her ankle. However, the no. 2 seed, Coco Gauff has also gone out with a bang, with it taking 3 people to kill her. Interestingly, Jess and Victoria, having gone from one keeping the other alive despite begging to be killed to working together. Dream team? And speaking of dream teams, Jelena Ostapenko and Elena Rybakina have put aside their differences and are on the prowl. Everyone watch out! 5 cannon shots can be heard for Madison Keys, Marta Kostyuk, Anna Kalinskaya, Danielle Collins, Coco Gauff.
Night 2
Lots of action tonight, as Victoria and Jess and Leylah are killed by Bia, Liudmila Samsonova and Emma. Dream team over smh. And while we're at it, whilst they worked together during the day, unfortunately, Elena and Jelena couldn't go on like this, with Elena begging for death and Jelena killing her. It was either gonna be this or taken out by her immune system. Rip Rybapenko, you were bigger than the whole sky.
Day 3
And it's time for the feast!
And the no. 1 seed and defending Roland Garros champion, Iga Swiatek is out alongside Marketa Vondrousova! It's just grand slam champion thing, you wouldn't get it. Liudmila has also died, this time due to untreated injuries. And this is why knowing first aid is important kids.
Donna Vekic, in a showing of mercy, spares Emma Navarro's life after beating her, even though Emma is the reason she sprained her ankle the previous day. She's turning into a formidable person to meet in the arena. Could she win it all? More action as Maria Sakkari has also suffered a devastatinig loss to berry bush. Can't a girl just live her life? And it's the most death we've had, with a whopping 7 cannon shots being fired for Victoria Azarenka, Jessica Pegula, Leylah Fernandez, Elena Rybakina, Liudmila Samsonova, Iga Swiatek and Marketa Vondrousova. I can't believe it's only the third day.
Night 3
After sparing her life during the day, Donna convinces Emma to snuggle. Love truly wins. Someone should've cuddled with Maria as well. And Jelena Ostapenko has been given explosives, a terrifying thought for everyone.
Day 4
It's only Day 4 and we've had another double suicide. Yes, Qinwen Zheng and Jelena Ostapenko both die, another tragedy, like uhh Antony and Cleopatra. And in a dramatic twist, after sparing her life and even cuddling together, Emma Navarro has forced Donna Vekic's hand: making her choose to kill either Bia or Maria. Maria has become the victim of this couple's spat. 3 cannon shots can be heard in the distance for Qinwen Zheng, Jelena Ostapenko and Maria Sakkari.
So now, we're down to just 3 tributes. All three underdogs who all have an equal chance at snatching victory. So who's left? Will Emma "daddy's money" Navarro prove to the world that she's the no.1 american nepo baby? Will it be Donna "Last Call" Vekic who will make a timely appearance on the top step? Or will Beatriz Haddad Maia bee the one to lift the trophy? We will find out after the break.
[INSERT AD HERE]
And we're back!
Night 4
Emma has been awoken by nightmares, which could be related to her partner (in crime), Donna, dying while trying to one up the system. A truly Hamlet and Horatio move. Bia just vibing though, starting a fire and roasting s'mores. We're down to Emma and Bia, battle of the North vs South America.
Day 5
Oh my god that was brutal. Emma, channeling her inner Donna Vekic, mercilessly mows down Bia. Honestly, i'm at a loss for words that was remorseless. 2 cannon shots can be heard for Donna Vekic and Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Congrats queen on your second ever totally legit title that definitely counts. Now go out there and slay in real life
#so this was a ride#iga swiatek#coco gauff#aryna sabalenka#elena rybakina#jasmine paolini#jessica pegula#maria sakkari#zheng qinwen#danielle collins#barbora krejcikova#jelena ostapenko#daria kasatkina#liudmila samsonova#madison keys#emma navarro#ons jabeur#anna kalinskaya#marketa vondrousova#marta kostyuk#victoria azarenka#donna vekic#beatriz haddad maia#leylah fernandez#caroline garcia#tennis

for the ask game : 10 & 17! :)
thank youu 🫶
10. biggest adrenaline rush moment of the year?
honestly watching tennis *live* at the olympics hit different (i saw carlos alcaraz v. tallon griekspoor and jess pegula v. elina svitolina). while both matches were only round 2, my heart was beating so fast right before the players came on the court, and i was so nervous every time they had a second serve 😭😭
i’ll also say jannik’s uso semi-final against jack made me feel sick (derogatory) and the final against taylor made me feel sick (affectionate).
17. describe yourself using up to 3 players that you relate to in some way.
iga swiatek (awkward), grigor dimitrov (bisexual), daniil medvedev (cursed and unstable). and i say that with a heart full of love.

the WTA posted a video of Jess Pegula giving the Buffalo Bills what I think was meant to be an inspiring speech about how much hard work it takes to become a champion but like her parents own the team??? Her multi millionaire parents had their daughter who plays pro tennis go talk to a bunch of working class men who play ball for a living about striving to be great 💀

📸 WTA TV
The first day of the WTA Finals was ended with an exciting doubles match between Coco Gauff/Jessica Pegula and Yifan Xu/Zhaoxuan Yang. It was really neat from the start to finish.
We started the match with some holding games until this deciding point, where it determined the course of the rest of the first set. The key in this set was the net game, which was utilized well by Y. Xu/Z. Yang. Although Coco/Jess came in a clutch with their serves (albeit the mistakes in the beginning), it was not enough because of that net game once again.
Y. Xu/Z. Yang's solid service game then enabled them to take the first set 6-4. Similarly, they broke early in the second set (1-0) from their net game, but the tables might have turned in the middle of the second set...

Ready® Signs Top Ranked American Tennis Star Jessica Pegula
Ready®, one of the fastest growing sports nutrition brands in America, today announced the signing of WTA tennis star, Jessica Pegula--the 8th ranked player in the world and the top ranked American female--as a Ready® athlete. She joins fellow Ready® team members NFL star and world champion Aaron Donald and NBA great and global basketball icon Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Pegula has been a steady riser on the WTA tour and Grand Slam circuit since her debut in 2011-12. Her determination and effort to join the elite of women’s tennis has paid off in 2022 with her ascension to a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 7 in singles and a career-high doubles ranking of No. 6. Her and partner Coco Gauff will be one of the favorites for the double’s championship at The US Open.
The Buffalo native has won one WTA singles title and two WTA doubles titles, one WTA Challenger doubles title, and seven ITF doubles titles. She is a three-time Grand Slam singles quarterfinalist, having reached this stage twice at the 2021 and 2022 Australian Open and once at the 2022 French Open. She is also a Grand Slam finalist in doubles, achieving this feat at the 2022 French Open with Gauff.
“We’re very selective on who we sign as members of our Ready® Team Roster,” said Pat Cavanaugh, Ready® founder and CEO. “We look for people who take more pride in their hard work than their talent. Beyond athletic excellence, we love seeing someone be relentless in their journey to make their best, better. Jess’s grit and determination over the last 10 years to grind and improve her game to reach her goals and her current world ranking is a great testament to her mentality and the kind of mindset that defines our Ready® Brand.”
"I am really excited to partner with Ready®, a sports drink and nutrition company that helps me stay prepared on and off the court,” said Pegula. “I put tremendous pride into my team, my training, and what I put into my body.”
When I first tried Ready®, the products stood out to me above everything else out there. As Pat and I continued conversations, we shared philosophies on hard work and determination to continue moving forward no matter what life throws at us. Seeing the athletes that Ready® is currently working with, Aaron Donald and Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’s an honor to join two champion athletes and be the first female athlete partner of Ready®.”
Ready® sports nutrition products will continue to fuel Pegula that she’s been using for the past year in her workouts and training. She will promote the Brand and its portfolio of scientifically formulated, performance products in her various online and non-digital platforms.

the many woes of WTA Berlin 2024
yep, we’ve got yet another cursed tournament
To start us off, the World #1 Iga Świątek has withdrawn entirely, leaving Coco Gauff, who just became #2 a week ago, as the top seed. As a result, Aryna Sabalenka (seeded second) and Elena Rybakina (seeded third) known for their explosive matches, ended up on the same side of the draw. Jessica Pegula, coming back from injury, is seeded fourth.
Right from the start, it doesn’t just rain. It pours, and this tournament doesn’t have a roof. Matches get delayed and rescheduled like crazy throughout the entire tournament - we’ll get to the worst of it as they come.
In the first round, qualifier and known doubles player Katerina Siniakova takes out Navarro 6-4 6-3. Victoria Azarenka beats the ever-erratic seventh seed Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-2 in a remarkably uncompetitive match. Another qualifier, Veronika Kudermetova, beats compatriot Samsonova 3-6 6-4 6-4. Kudermetova is one of those players that randomly shows up every few months and decides she’s gonna play at a top 20 level. Speaking of players who can sometimes play like the best in the world and sometimes forget how to play tennis, Kostyuk loses to one of the worst grass players on tour, Daria Kasatkina, with a scoreline 4-6 7-6 6-3.
All the top four seeds survive the second round, but fifth and sixth aren’t so lucky. Anna Kalinskaya receives her first walkover of the tournament after fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova is injured at 5-5 in the first set. Siniakova continues her run by beating sixth seed Zheng 6-4 6-4. Throughout all this it rains, a lot.
The quarterfinals is where things start to get truly crazy. First Rybakina is forced to retire against Azarenka at only 3-1. Following this, Azarenka and her son play mixed doubles with some fans on the court. Jess and Siniakova are in a tight third set when the rain pushes them to the next day along with the other two quarterfinals. Jess is able to finish it up, winning 7-6 3-6 6-3. In the next quarterfinal, Coco wins a close tiebreak against eight seed Ons Jabeur, but Jabeur retires immediately after due to illness. Finally, Anna receives another walkover, this time from Sabalenka, who retired due to a shoulder injury at 5-1. Three out of four quarterfinals ended in a retirement.
The very same day, Anna beats Azarenka with a bizarre scoreline of 6-1 6-7 6-1 to make the final. Interestingly enough, her boyfriend makes a German 500 final at roughly the same time. The second semifinal is a battle of doubles partners between Coco and Jess. Jess wins the first set, but Coco is serving at 5-3 in the second. In true Coco Gauff fashion, she gets broken and the second set goes to a tiebreak. Jess is up 3-1 in the tiebreak when it starts to rain, meaning the end of the match has to be pushed to the next day, where the winner will face Anna just a few hours later.
The next day, Jess finishes off the tiebreak, winning it 7-2, and then goes to play the final. The first set goes to a tiebreak, which Anna wins in a shocking 7-0. Jess breaks in the second set to win it 6-4. In the third set, Anna is up 4-1 with momentum towards a win, but gets broken. Even still, at 5-4 she has four match points, all of which Jess manages to save. Then, at 5-5 Anna goes down 0-40 and ends up saving four break points to hold. She finds herself with another match point in the next game, but Jess saves it in an insane rally to send it to a tiebreak. Unlike the first set tiebreak, Jess wins this one handily with a scoreline of 7-3.
When they meet at the net, Jess literally says sorry.

who do you think is winning the pegula - badosa match?
so my gut reaction was jess, she's definitely the better player and has a lot of momentum coming into this. I think when players make it through matches like jess had with leylah, it's really emboldening. I looked up the h2h, and jess leads 2-0 (but one of those is a retirement). all that being said, paula has had a really good hardcourt season and it seems like she's finally getting the better of her injury struggles. this definitely has the potential to be a really good match, but I'd still bet on jess winning
