Walter Hartwell White makes me so inexplicably angry because oh my god at one point he’s like “Jesse. Do not call here. Do not come here. Do not contact me in any way ever when I am at home. Do not call when I’m at work. Do not come to my work. Do not contract me in any way ever when I am at work.” Which, you know, when they’re running a highly illegal meth lab, is a pretty valid ground rule to lay down.

But the next second he’s like “Jesse. Pick up the phone right now. You have nothing more important to be doing. I’m calling from my home. I’m coming to yours. I’m demanding your landlord gives me a spare key to let me in. I’m breaking down the door.”

One second he’s shouting “You’re a pathetic, useless junkie who can’t follow simple, rudimentary instructions.”

The next he’s like “Jesse. Jesse, listen to me. I am the only person in the world who understands what you’ve been through. The only person in the world who understands you. You can trust me, wholly and utterly. I am responsible for making sure you make Good Choices. I will save you from yourself. I call you son when I’m worried about you. I missed the birth of my daughter but I’m not as angry as I should be because I’m still worried about you. I called my own son your name by accident.”

And then the fucking next it’s like “I know where Pinkman is.” And he rats him out to be killed, only to let him be taken and tortured for 6 months by fucking neonazis.

And by that point, you think it’s over.

BUT THEN HES LIKE LOOKING AT JESSE WHO LOOKS LIKE A BEATEN DOG AND JESSE CANT MAKE EYE CONTACT AND HES NOT SORRY. HES NOT. BUT ITS STILL, AFTER ALL THIS TIME, “I’ll save you. I’ll save you from them. I’ll save you from yourself. But more importantly, I’ll save you from me.” AND HE FUCKING PUSHES JESSE TO THE GROUND AND SHIELDS HIM WITH HIS OWN BODY, TAKING A BULLET IN THE PROCESS THAT ULTIMATELY KILLS THE GREAT HEISENBERG.

I FUCKING CANT.

You know why I still rewatch Season 6? Because of that moment in The Real Paul Anka when Rory tells Jess why she loves The Subsect.

"You know why I love your book? It doesn't remind me of anything. It's not a rip off. It's just you."

Do you all know what this single line communicates? To me, I see it as Rory acknowledging how well they actually knew each other. It shows us all the moments we never got to see onscreen. She knew Jess so well that, despite their shared love affair with literature and the potential for little bits of his favorite authors to find their way into the book (as so often happens with first time writers), she tells him how special, unique, and precious it is.

Because it's him.

It's his writing, brand of humor, fears, pain, emotion, etc. all laid bare in this slim paperback. I don't think that was a coincidence on the part of ASP and the props dept. That book is so him that it even resembles the pocket-sized paperbacks he carried around four seasons earlier. They memorized every detail of each other. And even when the scene ends so tragically (it is what it is), that interaction makes the entire relationship worth it to me.

She saw him. He saw her. They knew each other, at least intellectually and soulfully, better than anyone else. It's hard to beat that.

Every other aspect of Jesse’s trauma makes me go oh no poor blorbo :( but his relationship w his parents and thinking ab it in the context of the series aftermath actually makes me unwell… they never even knew him they only ever saw the worst in him and now they’ve had that validated by his own actions and they’ll never know how sorry he is and that he was a good kid at heart and they didn’t imagine it and they still love him but how can they have loved him if they never even knew him and only ever saw the worst in him *flatlines*

i do think it's strange when people act like joyce telling buffy "if you walk out that door, don't even think about coming back" was some kind of fundamental trauma for buffy. it was a dick move on joyce's part for sure and i don't think it helped buffy's feelings of alienation but let's be real that was not in the top 5 most traumatic things that happened to buffy in that 24-hour period. like kendra got murdered which she blamed herself for, the police then blamed her for kendra's murder and tried to arrest her, snyder kicked her out of school, giles got kidnapped by her evil abusive ex-boyfriend, her friends got beat up by said abusive ex's minions, she had to swordfight said abusive ex, and then he got his soul back but she had to kill him and send him to hell anyway to prevent the literal end of the world. all of those things are worse than 'her mom said something mean and desperate to try to get her to stay' sorry
