To those still in the Arlo the Alligator fandom: have you guys ever noticed that Alia has a subtle interest in history?

When the group enters the MET Gala in the movie, she describes the place as “looking like the ancient raves of Egypt.”

Then in the episode that opens with her and the rest of the crew thinking that Jeromio died, Alia tries to give him a Viking funeral.

And of course in “Stay Cool” when they see that infamous gold statue of Ansel (lol), Alia comments that he looks like a Greek god.

So yeah, her interest in history has popped up at least three times (arguably four, as you could argue her knowledge of ghosts and how to protect yourself from them could be related to her having read up on ancient practices from other cultures)

and as someone who certainly likes Alia (as well as her spotlight episode) but at the same time kiiiiiinda sees her as the least interesting member of the Arlo crew, this is a sort of fascinating wrinkle to her character in that you’d think most kids her age would simply see history as “boring old stuff”.

Maybe she’s only interested in the surface-level aesthetics and exciting legends of history, or maybe she’s got some genuine knowledge and passion for the subject in that party-catgirl brain of her. Either way, it’s an interesting trait of hers to notice.

Someone offers her a hand, and she lifts her face from the snow. She’s always been an emotional person – her swamp mom says it’s a good thing, April disagrees. It feels silly to be so upset over plants. She looks up to see who the voice belongs to, and she sees a man standing there with a baby that’s pointing at her. He sounds French, and she does not trust the French. She’d like to keep her legs, thank you very much. Still, he’s kindly offered his help, and it’d be rude to reject him based on his accent alone. 

“Yes, please.” She could easily spring up from the ground. However, he looks like he could use a chivalrous win. April extends her hand towards him and takes his, letting him pull her up from the snow. She glances at Jeromio, then wipes her eyes. “Sorry for blocking your way, I’m a botany student and just wanted to admire the plants.” She looks down at the baby girl, giving her a smile and small wave. “She’s sweet.”

She seems to hesitate before accepting his offer, for reasons he can’t fully tell, but eventually she acquiesces, and he helps her up. She’s really upset by the situation, visibly -- and apparently it’s not the frog that’s the problem, at least not in the way Kaya had though.

April waves at Jane, who waves a chubby little hand back. She’s just started doing that in the last month or two, and Kaya feels a swell of pride every time. “Aw, clever girl,” he says, kissing her cheek before addressing April’s compliment (the babies do always come first). “Thanks. Her name is Jane. Are these flowers very special, then?” he asks. Kaya isn’t usually one for hanging about chatting, but April is refreshingly sweet. He needs more of that in his life, he thinks. It’s nice to meet someone that just seems... nice.

I <3 Arlo - my thoughts on the show

episode 1: Furlecia is an icon. She undestands that sometimes cutting your fringe is the best coping mechanism and is ready to help. Precious ballfur lady <3 Also Ansel trying to do the dad thing. He's trying and we love him for that.

episode 2: Alia's arc??? Character development? Super way to dealing with your limitations??? Also Arlo being extra helpful and supportive!!?? This is a very valuable ep especially for those kids who suffer from conditions that won't let them focus.

Alia is my hero.

episode 3: Body positivity + ghost story? that's an incredible combo! that bird has no chill and apparently Marcellus can be a wise friend <3 He will share pizza crusts with you too on condition you start crying! Disgusting is new beautiful, remember that <3

episode 4: Arlo literally said 'i don't understand the need to be alone but Bertie for you I'll provide you the nice environment for your alone time bc i love you' and that is so sweet and thoughtfull I can't.

episode 5 Furlecia honey, you're an icon but you gotta relax! Good lesson on what stress can do to us if we overwork :( Furlecia skating so fab ily 

miss president: ok establishing boundaries. I love that for you <3

episode 6: continuation from the film: Ansel feels insecure about the dad thing but wants to impress his son. Fortunately Arlo explains that he doesn't care about the expensive trip experiences. He values simple things and Ansel starts to understand Arlo's pov.

episode 7: FROG DOES THE FLOP flop fLOp coz it's homesick :( but at the end of the episode Jeromio is happy and that's all that matters :3

episode 8: Marcellus you jerk. .......... Wait Mercellus sweety I'm sorry I doubted you!!! <3

episode 10: you mean my fav episode? Arlo having hallucinations was so funny I can't... And damn it had a sadder undertone too... Ansel really was desperate to hep him !!! I'm so glad that in the end he succeded! <3

episode 11: wow a great representation how our bad mood can change people all around us. haha Bertie's gasp when Arlo said he wants to be alone. Right then she knew: 'That alligator boy now turned into me and it’s my fault!'

episode 12: CRAB LADY I BELIEVED IN YOU but hey they made ‘what are those vine’ come to life! Wait I take that back dear evil crab lady I love you

episode 13: hot weather not good octopus is in love with Ansel's statue? Bertie being irresponsible for once? I mean yeah go girl, but Arlo's in trouble now! episode 14 Tony's parents be like: we don't love u bc u don't steal. Ok nevermind at least you can lie. ... and then they steal Ansel's helicopter. I love the easter egg - ansel's song from the movie is played in one scene

episode 15 aka follow me home reprise but in New York

episode 16 jeromio facepalming my beloved Weird carousel administrator my beloved I want to steal your means of transportation daaw~ Arlo trying to impress his papa by repairing his fav carousel. What can go wrong?

episode 17 head empty only Pumpkin Boy name reveal. His name is GORDON! Also that scene when Arlo was interrogating himself was funny

episode 18 ok I would never have expected a new villain there. Furlecia proving her disguise is the best. I want to see more her skills in action in s2. Marcellus sometimes has great ideas pass it on Edmee proving she's the most rad granny in the world. And yey! Edmee and Ansel introducing to each other! Edme living on the Seaside with her alligator son! Miss President and Ansel my new otp!

Summary:

Overall, I <3 Arlo is a lovely animation! I love the references from the movie and kinda musical-like nature of the show. ‘Slow walk’ is undeniably my favourite track from the soundtrack! The only thing that bugged me but oonly a little bit is that Bertie has more screentime than the rest of Arlo’s friends. However these characters do have their own episodes so this way it is balanced. The series is both comedy gold and educational because they tackle serious issues in a funny way, such as the odds of parenting (especially when you enter the child’s life in a later stage), the need for privacy, wanting the acceptance of your parents/ people, the struggles of an introverted person to fit in. 

So, do I recommed? hell yeah, go and watch it!

“Please move out of my way,” April pleaded, trying not to look at him. When Charles had asked her to go undercover, she hadn’t considered the repercussions when she agreed. When the realisation that she’d have to leave Oliver and stop talking to him sunk in, she wanted to quit before the mission had begun. What kind of superhero would she be if she did that, though? Being a good and selfless person meant making sacrifices. That didn’t make losing her best friend hurt any less, though. He was the only person in the entire world who could make her feel loved and calm just by smiling at her from across a packed classroom. His smile could light up a small city.

April owed him an explanation, she knew that. Pushing him away from her and running for the hills wasn’t an option. He had to be hurting as much as she was, right? “I’m sorry I didn’t say bye.” Fear was brewing in the pit of her stomach. She wasn’t supposed to go near anybody from Xavier’s. “I just had to get away, I felt suffocated. I hated being told what to do and I hated training. Xavier’s sucked.” The lies rolled off her tongue, making her feel like a terrible and ungrateful person. Casting a look over her shoulder, she swallowed thickly. Luckily, Oliver had caught her while she was breaking into an abandoned shack near the pond where Jeromio resided. Hardly anyone ever came around there, besides Jess. Just in case, she grabbed his hand and moved to stand at the side of the shack. The overgrown brambles and trees gave them some cover.

When April had passed a note to a classmate asking them to wheel her to the park to see Jeromio, she never in a million years expected to see Mari there. Seeing a member of the Brotherhood again leaves her with no choice but to think of Ezra. She can feel his tendrils tightening around her arms, digging into her flesh, burning her skin like a branding iron. April looks down, just to make sure that she really is only imagining it. A thin sheen of toxin is covering the skin of her healed arm — a tell-tale sign she’s panicking. 

Mari has always been kind to her. She’d even taught her how to break a wrist. That didn’t matter, though. Even if she was the meanest person on earth, April is willing to do anything to distract herself from the panic rising in her chest right now. “Mari,” she calls out. It’s the first word she’s said in a month that isn’t ‘yes’ or ‘no’. “Can we talk?”

That was a fair trade, you scam artist.” The raccoon turns around and scampers off, leaving April to stew in her annoyance. “If you see that raccoon here again, tell him he owes me,” she says to a stranger sitting on the bench.

“Thanks for carrying me back home, Olipops,” April grumbled, arms wrapped loosely around Oli’s neck as she rode on his back. “I shouldn’t have tried to hop such a high fence, but I’d had a fight with Jeromio and he ran away like a jerk. Now my ankle is messed up ‘cause of him.” Things always got heated between her and the toad whenever it was dinner time. “Don’t tell Xavier, he’ll think I’m useless and send me away to a French chef.” The way her mind worked was so interesting. “How was your day? Did you hear any good ghost gossip?”

What did you do when you hurt someone the most?

“When I told my adoptive mom that she wasn’t my real mom, I know I hurt her pretty bad. I was just jealous and scared because she was pregnant with my little sister. After I saw the look on her face, I ran away and hid in the pond with Jeromio for three days. When I came home, there was a baby in the living room... Jeromio took me out for bloodworms that night. We got pretty crazy.”
