i saw newsies! it was my first time seeing this show actually and i rly enjoyed it.

they had a little children ensemble and they came out before the show started selling the newspaper prop IT WAS SO CUTE and this kid came running up to one of the newsies so he could buy the newspaper UEUEUEUUEE 😭

okay anyways onto the show THE LEAD ACTORS WERE AMAZING dillon klena and monika peña u just gained a fan 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ my dad mentioned he recognized peña tho from another musical (which i didnt go to) which is cool!! i hope to see them more in the future

the cast truly was talented they all did great i hope the best for them too

my fav part was pretty much all of act 2 LOLLLL during the first kiss i heard someone say out loud “…WELL!” and it made me laugh

also jack’s actor 😭😭😭 during the final number he jumped on like this side platform but he slipped but perfectly landed on the platform sitting down LMAOOOO him and this other cast member were cracking up on the side and the ending number was just 👌👌👌👌👌 i care them

i also loooove the costume design especially with katherine’s dresses I LOVE we need to bring back that style pls and w the HIGH HEEL BOOTS?? love

Unpopular musical theater take???

oooh okay i have. a few!

people need to stop comparing six and hamilton. they are vastly different musicals

i know it’s done all the time but im not really a fan of how many movies have been turned into musicals. i want something new and obscure (although i love all of the musicals that are based on movies)

i absolutely adore the soundtrack to rent, and i enjoy watching it performed, but there is SO MUCH that could be done/written differently or better about it

Pippin is only a good show if it’s done well (sorry pippin lovers i just. CANNOT. enjoy it if it’s not good and i don’t know why)

the music to dear evan hansen is really good and i like it but Evan is NOT a good person. having anxiety and mental illness is not an excuse to lie to people and benefit off of someone’s suicide.

i can't stand the new trend of only having projections as set design like im sorry but i want REAL SETS!! it just feels lazy to me when they use projections :/

i enjoy Oklahoma (but i think that’s only because it was one of my favorite sets and choreo out of the productions i’ve been in) but to be completely honest? it’s a very basic and like. wooden? plot if that makes sense? like, i honestly enjoyed the B plot a lot more than the main plot of the show. Curly is played as a good person (because he is the mc) but hes actualy such a jerk!!! him and jud are both assholes and Laurey would have been better off on her own (i actually don’t know if this is a hot take or not i just don’t see a lot of people talk about it)

i feel like a lot of newer musicals are more focused on showstopping vocals than having diverse vocal ranges!! like there are little to no alto roles in a lot of popular musicals, and although im a soprano i would appreciate more alto rep

now listen to me, i know that the reason jack kelly doesn’t dance in livesies is because of jeremy jordan HOWEVER. i would like to speak on it making sense to his character.

jack kelly is a leader. jack kelly is the father and watcher-over of the manhattan boys. yes, jack kelly doesn’t dance bc jeremy jordan doesn’t dance BUT!! it’s so much better when you think about it as: jack kelly doesn’t dance because he doesn’t have time to dance. jack kelly doesn’t dance because he’s busy watching the other boys. jack kelly doesn’t dance because when someone inevitably gets hurt doing backflips, he will be the one to pick them up and dust them off while the others continue doing their thing

see also: jack kelly doesn’t dance because crutchie can’t dance. in the world will know, you can see jack & crutchie in the back sitting at the bottom of the stairs. they’re messing around; jack is smelling his shoe, shaking it, making sure its on tight. he’s sitting there, laughing with crutchie as they watch the others run around. jack kelly doesn’t dance because he doesn’t want crutchie to feel left out, so he stands there with him and opts to be a hype man instead. even when he does “dance” (which is more shaking his arms and doing some sort of joke), he’s always messing with crutchie. ex. him pretending to get hit by crutchie’s crutch, him and crutchie joke fighting during the “soakin’ every sucker that we can” line

i just think it makes it so much better to think jack doesn’t dance strictly because he doesn’t have time to AND because he cares too much about crutchie to!!

A random headcanon: adhd and ocd she told me so herself. she didn’t get diagnosed until after she went through terrigenesis because andrew had to do a psych eval on her. she’s hypersensitive to noise because of her powers, but noise-cancelling headphones don’t help because the way they function actually increases the vibrations she’ll feel, which just overwhelms her further (i have an entire fic idea about this i’ll get around to it one day i swear). she also has a phobia of needles after the amount of medical trauma she’s endured and bc of the amount of times she’s had her blood drawn against her will
