the trojans social media au (pt. 5): okayyy soooo let me start by saying i’m a fraud tumblr user and i’ve been stalking for so many years instead of posting so idk how everything works and what the tumblr dynamic is when it comes to interacting but during my previous posts some things have been brought to my attention

I'm back with silly fanart of the home series! because it's one of the few things keeping me sane this semester. I'm planning on doing some character notes before I do another comic practice, it's gonna be Foxy and Jeremy, so I am going to need it, anyway-- FANART!

Less this time, because the other one I did was one of the character notes but I wanna have them all before I share them, and I totally did not start with a certain clown trio (with honorary bunny member) because I am totally not biased.

OOOOO, I COME BACK ON TO POST LINKS AND I FIND ART WAITING! 8D And such good art! GOD THESE WOULD MAKE EXCELLENT COVERS- especially the first one! 8D The third one for the Clownwell spinoff, because Ennard looks so ominous I love it so much ahsgdjsksk!?! You wouldn't have any idea that these two are actually so soft and that's such a cool angle, I love it!

But don't let me pass over the second one! I love this angle of Mike- that's the smirk of a man who knows he has a lovable attack puppet, and that the menacing smile of a lovable attack puppet if I've ever seen one! You make them look like such a good team! 8D

I have GOT to start paying you for these, my friend! YOU ARE FEEDING ME TOO WELL, NOW I SHALL USE THIS TO KINDLE THE FIRE! Really though, you have helped me through some rough times, your art too! I went through a rocky patch a little while back and seeing all the care you've put into these, and seeing the story actually come to life before my eyes, it's helped a whole lot. Really.

I can't stop thinking about this moment in "The Secret of Sherlock Holmes" ...

[Sorry for the bad audio quality, as far as I know there's no better recording. The script is under the cut below so you can read along, although it's not verbatim. Also be aware, there's shouting at approx. 0:42 in case you get startled by sudden loud noises (like me).]

Holmes is scared and lives under a feeling of impending doom, beginning to lose his grasp on reality, imagining not only Moriarty's presence but also having conversations with Watson in his thoughts ... And when Watson finally arrives, Holmes of course "can‘t say “Thank you”; he cant say “Good night,” can’t say “Help.”" ...

So he asks Watson for a match to have him close for a moment (they are in Baker Street, Holmes must have his own matches lying around) - I think this is the most logical explanation. He craves Watson's assistance, but he does not know how to ask for it. So he asks for a match instead.

Ahhh, I would sell my soul to travel back in time and see this on stage! (Yes, this is a photo from the play - but I have no idea from which scene.)

HOLMES becomes aware of another presence: the terrifying image of MORIARTY. His shadow stretches across the stage, street lit, in a London mist. HOLMES is alert, afraid.

HOLMES Professor Moriarty, I presume…? (The shadow remains. Silence) When the time is right, my friend, when the time is right…

The shadow moves away. WATSON's voice is heard.

WATSON Holmes? (HOLMES stays perfectly still) Can I be of assistance?

HOLMES Your presence might be invaluable.

WATSON You speak of danger. You are afraid of something?

HOLMES Well, I am.

WATSON Of what?

HOLMES Of air-guns.

This comes as a terrifying shriek from HOLMES. WATSON's voice has been in HOLMES' mind. Now his voice can be heard off-stage.

WATSON Holmes?

HOLMES (with quiet relief) My friend…

HOLMES rises from chair, as WATSON in outdoor clothes enters in natural light.

WATSON How are you, my dear fellow? I've brought you a cake. Mary baked it especially for you.

WATSON presents a cake tin. HOLMES peers inside, the briefest of glances. He puts in on the desk.

HOLMES How kind. And how is Mrs Watson?

WATSON She is extremely well, and sends you her compliments.

A pause.

HOLMES Watson… I think you know me well enough to understand that I am by no means a nervous man. At the same time it is stupidity, rather than courage, to refuse to recognise danger when it is close upon you. Might I trouble you for a match? (WATSON lights HOLMES' cigarette and sees him staring ahead in a momentary trance before he becomes aware of WATSON's presence again) You have probably never heard of Professor Moriarty?

I have so many annotations in this book. (668 to be exact), so im just grazing the surface of everything with this one sooo part 1 perhaps?

-Kevin and jean. Jeans unrequited crush on kevin. I need to know more about this and I hope Nora delves into the semantics in the next book.

-Also how this relates to Kevin day famously saying it was easier to be straight. I figured this was a common thought among the ravens or at least Riko’s court,but Jean doesn't mention it once throughout the entire book. He brings up his attraction towards men multiple times ,and there was never any denying it. It was just something he accepted, so how did Kevin get the idea that it was easier to be straight and Jean didn't? Did Jean ever think this way and eventually changed it down the line or what?

-Im a sucker for found family and Nora really delivered with this one. Laila,Cat, and Jeremy are making it known to Jean that they’ll always be there and genuinely want to help him. The dynamic between all of them is so tender and I think it’ll be so healing for Jean. 

-Also I hope we see more of the floozy squad in the next book! 

-I need them to convince Jean to try boba at some point, and i really hope his relationship with food gets better. I really love that he’s cooking with cat and I really hope it develops into one of his hobbies outside of Exy. Let this boy live a little!

-speaking of hobbies: Cat teaching Jean how to ride a motorcycle?? I just feel like it would be beneficial(not to Jeremy’s heart but thats ok) 

-This specific moment with cat and jean 

she ran down to the tide to rinse it off with childish glee. Jean obediently inspected it when she brought it back, and she tucked it into his breast pocket with a cheerful “For you!”

Small things like this just really show how much they care about him.

- What’s up with Jeremy's family?? I really want to know what happened to where Jeremy “tore them apart” like what was the scandal his freshman year??? It was mentioned briefly but then Jeremy just decided it wasn't worth mentioning again considering all that was going on? The biggest “im fine” in history fr. Also when Cat is telling Jean about everyone’s siblings she mentions how when you go over 4 kids there's bound to be one asshole, but she only listed 4. So did one of his siblings die?? I might be reading too far into this but! Or it could be that one of them cut off all ties to the family after something happened? I don't know but I’m excited to read more about it in the next book!

Jeremy has—three. One sister, two brothers. The older brother’s an absolute tool, but there’s bound to be a jerk or two once you pass four kids.” Jean idly wondered what she’d changed at the last minute and why,

- The constant touches everyone gives Jean to ground him and make him feel loved just makes me so happy. 

- also jean constantly touching jeremy’s chin to get his attention??? Hello? 

A hand on his chin startled him into looking up. When he met Jean’s eyes, Jean only said, “Focus on what’s important.” “I am,” Jeremy said. Jean opened his mouth, closed it again, and let go of Jeremy without a word. Jeremy snagged his arm when he started to turn away. “Who did this to you?”

This line in particular really hit me.

-just jerejean in general honestly. The way Jeremy genuinely cares about him and wanting to help him heal 

You are going to be my success story: Jean Moreau the person, not Jean Moreau of the perfect Court.

“Will you help me?” he asked. “Anything you need.” “A blank check is a dangerous thing to offer.” “Try me,” Jeremy said. “I can afford it.”

-neil. Bro was just being a menace and seeing him from an outsiders pov makes me realize just how unhinged he seems to everyone. But him ordering that hit on Grayson without a second thought? Iconic. As everyone else is saying he dropped by to serve cunt and then left. 

-Jean dropping the most poetic line about Neil and Andrew’s relationship and then just not thinking about it ever again is so wild lmao.

Jean noticed how Andrew and Neil moved like they were caught in each other’s gravity, in each other’s space more than they were out of it, cigarette smoke and matching armbands and lingering looks when one fell out of orbit for too long.

-The parallels between Jean and Neil and how they dealt with things. I don't know if you can really call some of them parallels but they are connected in my head bro. 

-JEANS SISTER. Oh this shit hurts from the faint memory we get to the end when we find out that she's dead??? Nora you're paying for my therapy oh my god. And when Jean is mourning her the snippet of the memory of stitching up her dress that she’d get caught in the blackberry bushes???? He genuinely loved her and just when he’d be getting to a point to where he’d feel safe enough to try to get in contact with her again to find out his parents sold her off and she died because of it???? Yeah bitch burn your family to the ground. I hope we get more memories with her in them.

DC's Terrors Through Time (2022) Readthrough

In the spirit of Halloween, I believe it is time to crack open one of DC holiday specials. It is time for DC’s Terror Through Time.

The book starts with a Phantom Stranger Story written by Paul Levitz and art by Raul Fernandez. This is basically a story showing Phantom Stranger fighting all types of ghouls and goblins on Halloween. And that’s it. A very mid story to start the book off with.

The comic then goes to a Super-Sons story by Sholly Fisch with art by Luciano Vecchio. Now this is a fun story. Superboy (Jon Kent) and Robin (Damian Wayne) decide to go trick-or-treating together and wear each other costumes. The pair go to various locations throughout the DC Universe to get candy, but none of the superheroes are there. So, they go to the Hall of Justice where The Justice League are captured by some demons who escaped from hell for Halloween night. The Super-Sons have to distract the demons until the spell that will send them to hell kicks in.

The next story is Gotham City Sirens story with plot and art by Peter V. Nguyen. The story starts in Hawaii in 1995 (there is no reason for it to be 1995, except for a bad joke Harley makes) with Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy meeting up. The trio discover that animals are going missing/dying. To solve this mystery, the girls go out to the jungles of the big island.

When they get to center of island, they discover the island god Pueo and the marching dead. And he tries to attack the girls, blaming man of the sickness on the island. But when they calm down a little, the Sirens realizes that it is the cats causing a disturbance on the isle. The god makes a deal with Catwoman to get the felines out of Hawaii or else Pueo will take more extreme measures.

Nguyen has a very distinct style that won’t be for everyone. This is a story where art will make or break it for you.

Then the book tells a story with classic DC supernatural force Swamp Thing. It is written by Zac Thompson with art by Andy McDonald. And this is a post-nuclear apocalypse story. Two people are gathering food out in the swamp when a two-headed gator monster attacks them. Swamp Thing arrives and manages to stall the creature until the pair escape. Many years later, the girl comes back to swamp and is attacked by the swamp monster, but this time Swamp Thing manages to kill it. A very simple, but well-enough told story for the season.

We go to the old school with JSA story by Charles Skaggs and Tom Mandrake. This takes place in 1944, and the JSA are afraid that the Nazis will get a power mystical artifact. However, the group is too late because the artifact is already active, releasing all types of horrors. The team is split up to face challenges from the supernatural horrors alone, but Dr. Midnight arrives to assist in freeing the rest of the team. Before the JSA can stop this menace, they have to awaken Dr. Fate to break the spell. The JSA wins the day and it the terror is over… OR IS IT?

The book then gets a little cosmic with a Green Lanterns story by Jeremy Haun and art by Juan Doe. In the far-out year of 2447, a pair of lanterns explore an empty sector of space. The two come across a large creepy tower. When they enter the Lanterns come across mysterious chanting and sacrifices being made. But weird insect-like creatures attack the pair. They fight off the bugs, but they fail to stop the sacrifice. An eldritch creature almost escapes but a Lantern sacrifices himself to stop it. However, before surviving Lantern can get breath, she is alerted to 6 more signatures matching the creature that attacked them.

A very good use of the concept of Green Lanterns without using characters modern readers might expect. Touches on the emptiness that space can hold. A real highlight of this anthology.

We lose the dawn of man with the rise of Etrigan with story by Matthew Levine and art by Jorge Corona. We start in the medieval ages in a village where kids are going missing. Luckily a wandering Jason Blood comes to town to stop this demon. He manages to go to the lair of the demon. Blood releases Etrigan to fight the demon. Etrigan saves the kids and buries the demon under rubble. The demon alerts Etrigan he will be back in several centuries, assuming Blood would be dead by then. However, Jason Blood does not play like most mortals and arrives to finally slay the demon. A fun story but nothing special.

The anthology ends with a tale by the most famous creators, Tim Seeley writing and Kelley Jones on art. They tell a Damian Wayne and Deadman story together. And yup, it is a banger of a story, with amazing creepy art by Jones.

It opens on Deadman haunting Wayne Manor, and he gets stabbed by Damain with a silver spoon. Brand came to warn Batman that a vengeance demon is after him. But in a twist, when the demon attacks, it goes after Damain: the boy who killed him. Deadman and Robin try to fight the demon, but only succeed when Deadman when something more powerful claimed his soul. Damain thinks Deadman was bluffing, but the truth is something evil has chosen Robin to do its will.

Overall, this anthology was a fun read. It was a bad choice to start off with its weakest story (The Phantom Stranger), but this has many strong stories in it (Both Damian ones, the future Green Lantern). Overall, while not scary, the comic makes for a fun reading experience.

(Another attention grabbing artist out of Milwaukee, rapping like a trap Missy Elliot, experimental in a similar vein as Certified Trapper, and like Trapper, Bristackz records might miss the mark...but when she hits, she hits real hard.)

(A dope Roc-A-Fella themed posse cut is not what I expected to hear in 2024, but I couldn't be happier that it exists.)

10. "Gank Move" by Big Hit, Hit-Boy & The Alchemist feat. HitgirlLENA

(Hits that sweet spot between smooth west coast rider music and underground grime, and when that combination works well, there aren't many soundscapes capable of yielding a stronger outcome. This album's aesthetic is peak chemistry between Hit-Boy & The Alchemist, and I hope that all of the challenges facing Big Hit today end up in his rearview soon, because this talented family still has a lot to share with the world.)

9. "Psalm" by 7xvethegenius feat. Jae Skeese

(If 7xvethegenius wasn't high up on your radar before I sure hope she is now. 7xve packs all of the skills of a traditional "conscious MC" without sounding the least bit trapped within those constraints, she's an exceptional writer that knows how to corral the thoughts of a woman that's trying to excel in rap music in 2024, and that in and of itself, provides endless material. 7xvethegenius is the true MVP on Drumwork's team..yup, I said it!)

8. "Lost Angel" by Blu & Evidence

("This album is dedicated to L.A., and everybody who helped me get home, every step of the way." Blu and Evidence's Los Angeles album is easily one of the best rap albums of 2024, and even though it's a skip-free ride that showcases Blu's gifts as a presence on the mic and Ev's - somehow still underappreciated - incredible mastery over the production of this album, it's this loosie that the duo dropped earlier this year that perfectly captures Blu's heartbreak, and subsequent rise from the ashes of his painful past to release some of the best art of his already impressive career.)

7. "Yea Yea" by Star Bandz

(With certain records...you just know it as soon as you hear it. The beat, the swagger of the MC, thay MC's voice...on "Yea Yea" every box is checked. And Chicago's young rising star, appropriately named Star Bandz, has breakout potential written all over her.)

6. "expensive piss" - shemar & Child Actor

(Hazy, unrestrained, and representing some of the best indy music out there today, capturing some of the best traits of the boom-bap era but adding they're own twist to it, the combination of shemar and Child Actor yields a sound that I hope to hear a lot more of in the future.)

5. "The Harder They Come" by YUNGMORPHEUS & Alexander Spit

(The teeth of YUNGMORPHEUS's pen paired with the soothing palette of Alexander Spit, hit me in a special place when I first heard this song earlier in the year. The whole album they did together is great, but this one has stayed with me all year long as one of the strongest examples of hip-hop music being in great hands today.)

4. "Collection Plate" by Ka

(Still shocked to be writing this as the last time to ever be discussing a new Ka record. If The Thief Next to Jesus is to be remembered as the Brownsville poet's swan song, what a bittersweet beautiful farewell to behold. "Collection Plate" was the immediate favorite for me, as it captures Ka's knack for simple but highly effective hooks, sharply written verses without one word wasted, all of it dragged over a rolling organ that paints the picture of a Brooklyn evangelist better than anyone else ever could. 52 years was far from long enough, but thank you for all of the art you gave to the world while you were here, Kaseem.)

3. "Free Jesus" by Mike Shabb feat. Navy Blue

(Not totally sure of what the song means, but I felt it deeply from the moment that Shabb posted a snippet from the studio with Navy. I’d like to think that it’s a statement about how tales from the streets can escalate to God-like levels of exaggeration, and the fragile line separating the exaltation of idols from the reality…but whatever it means to you, it’s a potent attention grabber.)

2. "Zayre" by Previous Industries [Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave, STILL RIFT]

(One of many standout records from this trio, but for my money's worth, this joint captures what is so special about the whole album: nostalgia for "the way things used to be" has never sounded more peaceful and content with the present.)

("It's cold again..." Truth be told, I didn't think Armand Hammer's 2023 AOTY We Buy Diabetic Test Strips needed another song to make if that much stronger, but here we are. Maybe the greatest songs that I have ever heard added to an album long after it dropped, "Doves" captures both the beauty and pain of loss. It would be a bleak song as cold as the heart of winter if it wasn't coming from the powerful duo of billy woods and ELUCID, who excel at showing us glimpses of their hearts shining through dark clouds. And the crackle of that Benjamin Booker hook takes this moment to another level.)

Hey guys. Hayley here.. I'm sitting in the front lounge of the bus. Being on voicerest is never fun but it's an almost constant chore when I'm on the road. Maybe I'm getting too old to headbang? I get the most intense "bangovers" (shhh, i know how that sounds).. the first few days of tour and it causes my throat to get a lot hoarser than it would be otherwise. So yeah, needless to say, this off day is pretty event-less. However, typing feels great! So, here I am! 2 days into the biggest US tour we've ever done. My head is spinning. So much hard work is paid off every time I look up and see everyone smiling, singing, and having a good time. We want this show to be fun. And while, we're still getting used to the set-list and the sore necks, it's already everything we could've hoped for. Make sure to hit up Brandon (@branchesbro) on Twitter and let him know what you think of all the videos that we made for the show.  (holy capslock, i just realized i have been writing this like an essay... back to the norm). there are 2 videos, in particular, that we shot while we were home in franklin only about a week and a half ago. the one for "Decode" and the one for "Looking Up". there is a small cameo by my younger sister, Erica, in the "Decode" video. she plays a menacing shadow person. that sounds ridiculous... but i don't know what else to call her role hahah. anyways, Brandon pulled off those two videos - as well as a few others - extremely well. and in such a short amount of time.  another thing... the clothes. my friend Jen (@bunnyjenny) and I designed some stuff for the guys and I to wear. so much fun. for whatever reason, i really enjoy girl-scout stuff.. one of the first goodwill purchases i ever made was a toddler sized girl-scout dress that i wore as a shirt. there's a pic of it somewhere from 2006 when i brought it on tour with me. so yeah, i still have that sort of obsession.. (mostly with the cookies) and wanted to go with that type of "punk rock girl scout" sort of style for this tour. and since the color scheme was very similar to what the guys like to wear anyways, we just made clothes for everybody! this is my first go-round with the whole designing/costume making biznass. i enjoyed the process very much. still figuring out a way to sew my mic pack into the dress i made without messing with the style of it. we'll get there. i'm just stoked that we actually made some skin-tight pants and they are durable... but stretchy enough that my booty isn't hanging out the back when i jump. that's so embarrassing. ugh, i could go on about clothes for days. sorry to bore you all. i'm gonna post a few close up "making of" pics of all the pieces i'll be wearing on stage over at my tumblr and if you're interested, you can check it all out. >> (yelyahwilliams.tumblr.com) oh, and i've also just started blogging for MTV.com. i think it's just for the duration of the tour... but go and check it out and comment me a lot so i look like a real important journalist.  i really hope that jeremy is actually sleeping and not dead. because it's like 3:45. i'm gonna go shake him and tell him our bus is on fire.  thanks again if you've already gotten tickets to the shows. can't wait to see you out there. let us know each night what you thought of it... ps, brandon from delaware is a great singer.  hayley

Hey, y'all. So, it's 2024, and I haven't posted in a while. I apologize, but I'm back, and I recently thought of a little headcanon about Michaels friends.

I have a lil headcanon that Michaels friends have issues similar to the glamrocks:

Jeremy(freddy mask) - anger issues: Jeremy has a short fuse and is quick to jump to conclusions or rush without thinking. He let's his anger get in the way a lot, even though he doesn't want to. He tries so hard to keep calm, to make it seem like he's at least a little bit normal, but that doesn't work well for him.

Simon(chica mask) - eating disorder(more specifically binge eating): Simon is a pretty chill guy and pretty nice, a bit of a menace but means well. But when he gets stressed or sad, he eats and eats a lot, and the problem with that is he feels like he needs his body to look a certain way so he can be considered healthy or normal by others. But even when he tries so hard to stop eating so much, he can't resist it when he's upset and feels ashamed of it. He feels extreme hunger despite eating so much or feeling full. He would even try to find anything edible in the trash. thankfully, it was only once, but he felt disgusted with himself for days about it.

Mark(Bonnie mask) - self-esteem issues/self-worth: With Mark, his issue is that he can't get comfortable in his own skin. As a kid, he was teased and bullied a lot for his appearance, voice, personality, etc. He was very anxious about high school because of it, and it just felt like everyone had their eyes on him, judging him. He seemed like a chill and laid-back guy, but on the inside, he was having a breakdown. He felt like he needed to wear a mask, but he also thought that wasn't enough: He needed to be someone else to be accepted, that includes his body, his voice, his appearance, and even sometimes his gender. He also felt like people were constantly talking about him and saying mean things about him. It got to the point where he had to constantly reassure himself about everything, even if it wasn't true. He doesn't truly love who he is, who he sees in the mirror.

Jeremy picked monty because he could destroy anything and everything he wanted without hurting himself or others(well.....not everyone, but...)

Simon picked glamrock chica because he can eat to his hearts content without his body gaining any fat.....but the feeling of deep shame doesn't go away.

Mark chose Roxanne because she's everything that he wants to be: pretty, popular, and confident in herself. Plus, after all, everybody loves Roxanne.....right?....

So earlier today i red a thread on twitter about the similarities between Jumanji and Stranger Things. It got me thinking about a cartoon, Code Lyoko who also share a LOT of parralels with ST. 

I don’t know about you, but when I was a child I used to be a [HUGE] fan of Code Lyoko. This show was quite popular in the 00′s in Europe. The plot : “ The series centers on a group of teenagers who travel to the virtual world of Lyoko to battle against a malignant artificial intelligence known as XANA who threatens Earth with powers to access the real world and cause trouble.”

I decided to do a thread about these parallels... Maybe it is pure coincidence or maybe it was used as inspiration by the Duffers.

So, first thing first let’s talk about the characters similarities. A really good post was made in 2019 by someone about this

Aelita :  She is a teenage girl who is at first trapped in the parallel universe. She has, like El, lost her mom when she was younger. [spoilers] It is later said in the show that her father is Franz Hopper (ik Hopper is a frequent name but it’s fun to see how it match with El and Hopper). She also has sort of powers of creation and can create or remove objets in Lyoko. Once she escapes the virtual world, her integration at school is difficult. She and Jeremy became a couple but as Mike and El things are quite complicated...

Jeremy Belpois : A nerdy 13 years old boy who is passionate about science and IT. He can be described as the leader of this group of friends. One day he discovers a giant computer in an abandonned factory. As he turns on the computer he reawaken Aelita, the girl from the parrelel universe. As the episodes and the story goes on Jeremy falls in love with Aelita. 

This character basically screams Mike to me...

Ulrich Stern : an introverted student and has a crush on Yumi. He makes me think of Lucas.

Yumi Ishiyama : mysterious girl and has a crush on Ulrich [hello Lumax nation ]. She often feels apart from the group but she’s a loyal friend. During the show, Yumi temporarly dies to save Aelita but she then came back to life [Foreshadowing for Max in S5 ?]

William Dunbar : the overconfident boy. William is captured in the Upside down, sorry... Lyoko, and is possessed by XANA ( the big villain of the show). Just like Vecna with Will, Xana tries to make William his puppet. 

Also, it’s funny to note that two supportive characters share similarities with Jim Hopper : Franz Hopper (creator of XANA and Aelita’s father) and Jim Morales (PE teacher and school monitor) who could be a lost brother of Hopper 

The kids in Code Lyoko must fight against this parrelel universe and a wide range of monsters. 

Here, the supercomputer and Xana are hidden in a abandoned factory just like Vecna is located in the attic of the Creel’s house.

One of the first attempt of Xana to control the real world is trought rats... it doesn’t reminds you of anything ? yes, the mindflayer first used hordes of rats to access Hawkins. 

Speaking of mindflayer... the monster wich possess William also has a sprawling form.

In S3 and S4 Will is trapped in Lyoko and Xana tries to use him as a weapon to destroy the world. Dozen of replicas of Xana have infected other supercomputers and our group must now fight a battle to erase this menace and get their friend back to Earth.  In order to defeat the villain, the kids use time travel in the past.

What are your thoughts about this ? I never saw this show in the inspiration board of the Duffers but it’s surpring to see how much it looks like a kid version of ST.
