i think we should talk about jenny more as a fandom especially talking about how tragic her character is because people often say ted is doomed by the narrative but really hes doomed by himself and his own shitty behaviour but i think jenny is the one doomed by the narrative and i think its so tragic her life ends the way it did

I've had even more heartbreaking Ted thoughts that I need to share with you all. So, as we know, in Time Bastard, Ted was trying to get up the courage to confess his feelings to Jenny before he "passed out". The next morning, he wakes up to a letter from her, confessing her own feelings but thinking they're unreciprocated. Well, that's an easy fix. They're college students in 2004! They have cell phones. He just needs to call her. There's two possibilities for how that goes.

1. Jenny had her phone on her when she died so it got disintegrated along with her. Ted calls her and he gets that automated message about the number he's calling being out of service. God, was he that unimportant and disposable to her that she changed her phone number already? Did she actually love him or had she guessed his feelings and this was her idea of letting him down easy? She didn't give him another way to contact her so she obviously just wanted him out of her life.

2. Jenny didn't have her phone on her when she died so it survived somewhere. Ted calls her and it goes to voicemail. So, he leaves her a message telling her that he loves her too and she doesn't need to move to Clivesdale with Andy and please call him back, he loves her so much. Except she doesn't call him back that day. Or the day after that. Or the day after that. Days turn into weeks that turn into months and she still doesn't call him back. He confessed his feelings, told her he loves her and wants to be with her, and it didn't matter. His feelings weren't enough, he wasn't enough. She still moved to Clivesdale with Andy. So, why bother telling anyone that he loves them? It won't change anything.

@femslashfortnight uh oh i made myself sad about jenny and ted again and then had to remind myself that she sucks to feel better (it did not work)

genderswap breakdown below cut:

okay this breakdown feels like… important for actual context 

as a teenager/young adult she’s still just pretty much a pete clone

i see her as a ‘dork girl’ kind of early 2000’s tumblr vibe like she ‘doesn’t care about appearances over comfort’ but she actually just likes cardigans and dresses more or less modestly because she hasn’t bought new clothes since she was like sixteen

but then older ted is a totally different story

because, here’s the thing, the female equivalent of a male ‘sleazy, dirtbag coworker with no boundaries’ looks so different from normal ted’s whole lazy-dresser, cocky bullshit

tldr: she’s dressing for the male gaze incredibly on purpose

(pete makes fun of her because the second she gets home she essentially melts into a pile of old sweatpants)

and i’m willing to be wrong on this but i feel like the woman equivalent of ted’s mustache is, like, micro bangs and very bold eyebrows

she makes everyone around her just as uncomfortable as ted does but might actually be even less aware of it

her relationship with charlotte is even more fucky, because they are fucking on the reg, but instead of just having vague adultery panic, charlotte is basically having a 24/7 lesbian crisis that ted doesn’t… help even a little bit with and in fact might make it worse

she still dies almost every time line but now it’s misogynistic :(

here's something really fucked up about time bastard: what do you think a freshly heartbroken 2004-ted would've done when he found a pile of ash on the pavement? he probably kicked it in frustration and anger, maybe swore at the hypothetical stranger who dumped it there, and moved on.

Zoey- girlie is predicting her own death

Richie- "the nightmare started there but now has spread"? Dude is having visions

Frank- his whole thing is missing childhood, plus he didn't want a wiggly.

Grace - that's an obvious one. But even before the ✨plot✨, she had a vision of Max killing Richie.

Jenny- I have no reason for this except for that I want Jenny to have something going on that's not Ted

Becky- why is she climbing tree people
