Jamie and Jenny Chapter 33

“May I invite Ian to the wedding as my guest?” Jamie’s  eyes go up and he makes a humorous noise. They sit at the kitchen table, finishing breakfast.

 

“As a date, you mean?” He sits down his coffee.

 

“I have been seeing him for two years now. Isn’t it time we made it official?”

 

They had. Studying at her house or his. Movies in a living room under the watchful eyes of a guardian. Kisses in gardens and porches. This though, escorting her to the wedding, it takes it up a step that he isn’t sure he is comfortable with.

 

“I know, it is just…” Just he wasn’t ready. She is still a baby in his eyes even though she is nearing fifteen.

 

“This is real. I know you think we are to young, but Jamie, we aren’t. Not for knowing that this is love. I am as sure about him as you are of Claire.” Her eyes glow in the early morning light from the window. Outside, the breeze moves through the trees, adding their own melody to the bird calls and clucking chickens.

 

This startles him. He knows she wouldn’t be just saying this, not if she doesn’t mean it.

 

“You have dated no other lad. How can you know it isn’t just familiarity?”

 

She shakes her head, her hair whips around. It needs a trim, he notes. “I know, we do. I don’t want to date another guy. Ian is it.”

 

He still isn’t completely comfortable but, he trusts her. Ian is a good lad, with a good family. She could do much worse.

 

“Alright, my love, he can be your date.”

 

She squeals and  jumps up throwing her arms around him. “Thank you! Thank you!”

 

“You’re welcome.” He prays he is doing the right thing.
