Bosworth Academy for the Well-Bred Omega sits upon a hill over looking the quaint town of Kinsey in county Durwin. It's a fortress of a building, an ancient castle with large turrets on the corners and a huge wooden door with original steel locks and decorations. The grounds have been carefully designed with hedges full of flowers, long sprawling lawns of clover, and a truly exquisite fountain carved to be a collapsed Antoninus grasped closely to Hadrian’s breast as the water flows over them.

The medieval stronghold has not been that far removed from its past. Once claiming to host a lineage of royalty, the preparatory school now boasts an enrollment of the highest class omegas in the world. They're sent in by their influential parents with hopes that under Bosworth's careful and prestigious teaching, the omegas enrolled there will be trained to become proper mates for their worthy Alpha.

Even now as the eighth year omegas file out of the front door, strolling arm in arm towards the large carriage, there is an air of careful superiority about them. White gloves are pulled on to mid-forearm to hide their scent glands on their wrists, ribbons of varying color clasped over their bond marks, the group makes a color parade of the untouchable elite.

With a flick of his wrist, Harry snaps his lace fan shut, tucking it carefully into his basket as he follows along with Niall. His excitement for the day trip into town is only dampened slightly by the sweat pooling at the base of his spine, making his pale green sundress stick to his skin.

February TBR--

February is going to be the month I TRY to force myself to stick to my reading goals. I failed spectacularly in January by reading 8 more books than I had on my TBR. God, this is so the opposite of a problem. But I will say that January had me reading such small books that reading never felt like a chore. So, trying to stay in that mindset, I’m also going to be reading some shorter stuff in February.

1. Make a Wish by Helena Hunting (Spark House #3)-- I’m so excited to get to the finale of this companion series. The Spark House series follows three sisters who run an event hotel in Colorado Springs. This time it’s the youngest sister’s turn at love. We follow Harley and the guy she used to nanny for when he and his daughter move back to town after 6 years away. Can they navigate this romance with so much baggage weighing them down?

2. The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris (The Magic Misfits #1)-- I got this at a library sale...last year? The year before? At some point. It ended up being 50 cents or something like that so I thought I would take a chance on it. This one is the first book in a Middle Grade series that follows a street magician named Carter who has to save the town of Mineral Wells from the clutches of Bosso and his crew of crooked carnies.

3. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith-- This is another book from the library sale. It was also super cheap so I decided to give it a shot. It’s a 2012 YA Romance so we’re going to tread lightly here and keep our expectations low. It seems like this one is set over a 24 hour period and both at an airport and in an airplane so that will be fun to watch play out.

4. The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons (A Chorus of Dragons #1)-- Okay, so maybe this isn’t a shorter book, but I’ve heard too much hype. I have to read it. We follow Kihrin who is a bastard orphan who grew up loving stories about dragons, demons, gods, and heroes who always save the day. But when he’s claimed by a treasonous prince as his long-lost son, he learns the stories aren’t all true. He lives as a prisoner to his new family’s power plays and ambitions.  But let me give you my FAVORITE part of the synopsis: “Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin is not destined to save the empire. He’s destined to destroy it.” Let’s GOOOOOO. I’m trying not to give into the hype, but...come on. Come on.

5. Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien De Castell (Greatcoats #1)-- With this one, I’m continuing my 40 Books Before 40 TBR as well as my Kindle Clean Out Project. I didn’t know a ton about this one before I put it on the TBR. I got the recommendation from Jade/JadeyRaeReads on YouTube. This is an Adult Fantasy novel that follows the Greatcoats who were trained in the fighting arts and travel to uphold the King’s Law. Or at least they used to. Until they stood aside while the Dukes took the Kingdom and impaled their King’s head on a spike. The Greatcoats are scattered far and wide, reviled as traitors, their legendary coats in tatters. All they have left are the promises they made to King Paelis, to carry out one final mission.

6. Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu (Stars and Smoke #1)-- I have to say that I am SO lucky to have an ARC of this one. I really didn’t expect to get it when I put in the request on NetGalley. I’m trying to decide if I read it as soon as possible or if I wait and savor it at the end of the month. I’m going to keep the synopsis SO BRIEF to go into this knowing as little as I can. This one follows a superstar who has been tapped to become a secret agent and the reluctant young spy assigned to be his partner. I’m literally squealing over here. Shut your whole face. I don’t know exact what genre this story is going to lean into since GoodReads has it marked as a YA Romance/Contemporary/Mystery/Fantasy, but I’m here for it.

7. Greymist Fair by Francesca Zappia-- Another NetGalley ARC for this month. I’m also excited to get to this one. It’s slated as a suspenseful and inventive murder-mystery inspired by lesser-known Grimm fairytales. As someone who has read the whole of the Brother’s Grimm’s fairytales, I’m beyond psyched for this one. I’ll give you the brief synopsis from the top of the Goodreads page for this book: “The People of Greyfair Known that the woods are a dangerous and magical place, and that they should never set foot off the road. But when a young tailor discovers a body on the road, her search for the culprit reveals even more strange and dark happenings around her town.” Is this the right time of year for this sort of book? Depends on who you ask. Me? I’m always down for something good and dark.

avatrice au fic recommendations:

i don't think there is a single avatrice au fic that i haven't read so here are some my favorites. i tried to find ones that weren't as popular, so hopefully there are couple here you haven't read.

I want to believe by puppybusby @yashastrongarms - x files au - basically 23k of avatrice flirting while being incredibly reckless with alien shit. unfortunately, it is only a one shot that doesn't delve into their relationship, but it is so worth it. and the tension. woof.

Truly a Steadfast Love by StoicLastStand - medieval au - they have a whole series of ficlets, but this is one of my favorites. there's a tournament to win ava's hand in marriage, ava goes undercover to fight for her freedom, but she ends up falling for the very knight who everybody wants to win. i also love their lucifer au, Greater Sacrifices.

a lover, or something of mine by Smokestarrules - reincarnation au - each chapter is a different life with a different story, and i promise you, if you have anything that even resembles a heart, you will cry. i keep going back and rereading chapter 4 because apparently i love to hurt myself. i also love the world is just illusion (trying to change you) by them, it's a road trip au.

i should love you (and i swear i do) by Noteveryonefitsintothebadbitchgenre - harry potter au (fuck jk rowling) - its that trope where they're married and they talk about each other constantly but nobody actually knows they're married. their students all think that professor silva and professor young have a friendly rivalry, but there are a couple of moments that don't add up.

purple by sxftmelody - hitman au - technically, but really it's just sad, i always cry at the end. beatrice helps ava run away after a job, and slowly they open themselves up and start to fall in love. tw: major character death. also love turning page by the same author, mercenary/princess au.

in our corner of the world by definitelynotthere - roommate au - i know, i know, there's a thousand roommate aus, why would i recommend a fic that isn't even finished and will probably never get finished? i don't know, i just really love this one, and if you're like me, you'll go "ooh, two cakes" and read it anyway.

The last hero of Ogygia by jessnope - percy jackson au - specifically calypso au, ava is calypso and beatrice is the flirty hunter that washed up on her shore. it's super cute.

stay there, 'cause i'll be coming over (while our blood's still young) by britishngay - spiderman au - ava's character voice is actually designed to be spiderman, and bea is the perfect doctor lady that patches spidey up when she gets hurt. plus beatrice telling lilith to "shut up and sit down" will never not be iconic.

sunday people (sunday shines for you) by gilligankane @piratekane - another roommates au - jealous ava is back again and out for blood, specifically jenn-with-two-ns blood.

this is my prayer (I'm in love with you) by nyxtyka - my best friend's wedding/spies au - i'll be honest, this fic went to my marked for laters to die. i don't know if it'll ever be finished, but it is one of my favorite aus, i promise it'll be worth the pain.

spellbound by onomofication - witch au - beatrice is the witch in the woods that ava goes to to finally find a way to explore the world like she has always wanted to. but as she gets to know the surprisingly kind, serious, kinda-sorta witch, she discovers that maybe the world was smaller than she had once imagined. i also love another fic by this author, hit me with you best shot, which is basically a cupid au, where ava runs around trying to stop jc, a cupid, from shooting the love of her life, beatrice.

the celestial glow is blinding by understreetlights - firewatch au - did i think ava and beatrice sitting around, looking at trees, and falling love with each other through walkie talkies was going to be interesting? no, but the world loves to prove me wrong.

too cold, it's withdrawal by KatieQgle - captain america au - give this one a chance, even if you don't like marvel. beatrice is hot as fuck as bucky and honestly the winter soldier plot line needed a little sapphic yearning. come on, avatrice in the army in the 1940s, being badass and fighting nazis together? who wouldn't love that?

Draco Malfoy has always been an irritable person.

He has the patience of a Hungarian Horntail and the memory of a centaur, which basically means he remembers every single thing that pissed him off since he came out of the womb. Every now and then he makes a list, you know, for reasons.

If there was a trophy to give out for having contributed to the list, Harry would win hands down. The rare but explosive snoring that wakes Draco up at night. The utter absence of structure in the way he stores books. The inability to do the dishes in a timely manner. The list goes on.

Harry, on the other hand, has the memory of a goldfish. He can yell and storm off, then come back two minutes later and try to make out. He’ll pick a fight and apologise easily, as if it doesn’t hurt his pride. Draco suspects it does, which makes it count even more. He’ll hug Draco when he’s all worked up and agree with him and whisper I love you, inevitably making the anger go away.

The list may be long, but who fucking cares.
