So I recently bought a membership for me and my slowpoke at the semi-local arboretum! Right now is the autumn festival and there are pumpkins EVERYWHERE!! Jenkins, the slowpoke, loves to help me with my garden and we grow mostly peppers right now. He was wondering if you could help us think of another heat hardy fruit or veggie that he could help grow.

Heres a picture of some of the pumpkins too!

Hm heat hardy veg? That’s a lot of options, you can get away with corn/maize, tomatoes, strawberries do quite well in heat, as do raspberries. I’d suggest cut and come again salad crops, rocket, spinach, pac Choi, herbs. Heat would also lend itself to Mediterranean herbs, so rosemary, lavender and thyme, all great to be around and have in your dinners and deserts. Shady corners would do well with some chives or even cilantro/coriander, lettuce does well in tubs and darker areas too. There’s always a corner without a plant I find. If you can keep them watered, try melons, they love heat and feed.

One popular event around the Main Line is our annual Holiday Market. Many residents in our community look forward to stopping by the shop during the holidays each year to find beautiful gifts for friends and family and to buy a Christmas tree or other holiday swag. Children also have fun at our shop thanks to family-friendly events such as face-painting and visits from Santa Claus and his reindeer. The holiday market also features various local food trucks and complimentary beer and wine for adults 21 and over. Burkholder’s Holiday Market makes for a fun, family-friendly shopping and community experience.

Other Fun Holiday Things to Do

In addition to our holiday market, the Main Line and Philadelphia areas of Pennsylvania have a host of other fun holiday events. Take your family out to see annual holiday light festivals. One of our favorite fun holiday things to do this season is see all the festivals with holiday decorations, including twinkling lights, model trains, and more. Main Line residents can visit these festivals with their families to see stunning light displays of holiday spirit.

Some festivals are in the Main Line area, with some that you and your family can drive through in countryside farms. Others are in the hearts of southeastern Pennsylvania urban centers. So take a look around, and enjoy all of the beautiful colored lights.

Garden & Tree Festivals

Another one of the fun holiday things to do with your family this season is take a stroll through gardens to see beautiful plants with festive holiday decorations. Longwood Gardens is hosting its annual lighted tree festival through January 9, 2022. Take a walk through the gardens, to see the gorgeous plants, intricate decorations, and enjoy live holiday music outdoors.

You can also take a trip to Philadelphia to see other magnificent displays of trees and plants, such as the West Chester Griswold’s or the Tinseltown Holiday Spectacular at the Great Philadelphia Expo Center.

A great way to celebrate the holidays in Main Line is to see some artwork by the area’s most talented artists. The Main Line Art Center has an exhibition running from November 6 to December 18, 2021.
