oh gosh. self-control. here goes.

jemma's freaking out. fitz is comforting her. i want it to be this way the whole episode. i want this to stay true. this whole scene is so freaky. partly cause of the music. it was directed to make everyone look shady. bRING THE INHUMANS TO THE BASE. really? not a gret idea. mace tried to get simmons alone. but fitz stepped in and i'd like to think that was the fitz we know wanting to shield jemma from being scared. RobotMom is upset that she's a robot, upset that Dad was replaced by a robot. She's having an existential crisis. robot dad thinks he and mom are together in the framework but that's a LIE. oh the silent alarm was triggered. HELP. IM NOT READY. JEMMA'S BACKING AWaY. FItZ DEFELECTING. JEMMA'S GETTING DEFENSIVe. FITZ IS AT GUNPOINT. THEY'RE BOTH DISTRAUGHT. "OF COUrSe THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS ALWaYS HAPPENS TO ME TO YOU TO US." Fitz has really spent this whole season scared of something bad happenening, unable to fully enjoy his relationship with Jemma, cause he's been worried. "It's my worst fear coming true again you don't even know" that is straight out of Fitz's mindset. THAT TEAR "IT'S ONE OF US, FITZ" HEr HANDS ARE SHAKING. I kinda feel like The LMD could just take over and end this now... but the android is as in love with Jemma as Fitz is and it's kinda hard to do the mission. IDK.

"Don't hurt me" "I couldn't" The Fitz in it's programming doesn't want to hurt her. "I'm the bad guy ok. No matter what." WHY THE WRIST. WHY NOT THE FOREARM. THIS IS SO HARD. And then she gets close and his programming is like instinct. He has to... but I don't think RobotFitz really wanted to hurt her. He's just programmed with a mission that means she WILL get hurt. also SO CREEPY FYI. THE FOREHEad KISS NO. "don't hurt yourself jemma. there's no need to be afraid."

"Im securing our future. SO WE CAN GET MARRIED AND GROW OLD TOGETHER." *screams for eternity* JEMMA LITERALLY STOPS CRAWLING AWAY FOR HER SURVIVAL TO ASK ABOUT THIS. AND THE FACT THAT THE ReAL FITZ WANTS TO MARRY HER??? SHE'S FIGHTING FOR THAT NOW. AND SHE'S ABOUT TO DESTROY THIS ROBOT TO GET BACKTO HIM. this scene hurts me so much. he's screaming and then he stops and he tries choking her all while she keeps stabbing him, but HE STOPS. He won't kill her? cause the fitzbot needs her to be alive and put in the framework. so he won't. but he tries talking to her and fooling her. And Jemma poor Jemma has to look in his eyes... Fitz's eyes, but NOT Fitz. SHe loves Fitz, but she HATES this THING pretending to be him. and she goes for his neck... and freaks out entirely. DAISY SEEING FITZ SATBBED TO DEATH AND FREAKING OUT. AND THEN SEEiNG COULSON SHOOT THE OTHER AGENTS. DAISY FINDING A WILD, CRAZED JEMMA. "it wasn't him. IT WASN'T HIM." "did you kill him?" "No... not him... It wasn't him." "I'm ME... I hope." Jemma poor darling is having a mental breakdown. THE QUAKE HUG AND THE CRYING. Radcliffe "they perceive it as real which makes it real" YOU FOOL. WHAT A NIGHTMARE YOU HAVE CREATED FOR THEM. GOSH THIS EPISODE. STILL GEtS ME. "get our guys back" the Bus Kids feels, the bit of mackelena, the robo philinda, the Shield Fam, the fITZSIMMONS Daisy wakes up and thinks she's gonna find LINCOLN. but noooooooooooope. IT'S HIM. THIS AU MONTAGE THO. I HAD SUCH HIGH HOPES. RIGHT UP UNTIL WE SEE A HAND IN THAT CAR JEMMA SIMMONS WITH A GRAVE STONE. AND THEN HYDRA... oh and a human mind controlling the robot body... hard seel there AOS but I still felt like it could be modok....  ugh this is where things get truly HARD to watch...

I’m one of those who wants the Aos writers to show us Jemma’s perspective on her relationship with Fitz, because I feel like we’ve seen a lot from his point of view, but not enough of hers

I know she loves him, and cares about him. She deserves for the writing to explore her side more

it’s not fair to her, and it sucks that because of the writing, people think she doesn’t love him as much as he loves her

Can I just point out really fast that Simmons is the only original regular to have literally no story line in MULTIPLE episodes. In s2 ep 1,2, and 4 she appears solely as a figment of Fitz’s imagination, her only purpose to shower him in encouragement and support, and in s3 ep 1 and 2 she has a combined total of one line (Fitz’s name) and we see her for maybe two minutes as Fitz rescues her from the void.

Like why? Why is this allowed?

(4,072 hours would sort of make up for it if the space bf hadn’t derailed everything)

a brief analysis of jemma’s love for fitz

it is well established that agent dr. dr. jemma simmons is brave, often to the point of recklessness. consider just a few examples:

-volunteered for a field team without being cleared for action

-threw herself out of an airplane to save her team (and the entire world)

-threw herself on a grenade

-swam 90 feet dragging her best friend, even though doing so endangered her own chance of survival

-went undercover at hydra, where discovery meant brainwashing, torture, or death, to help her organization and help fitz recover

-tried to kill grant ward and nearly got killed for it herself

some of this changes after her time on maveth, but S1/S2 jemma simmons takes risks. for all her love of preparation, jemma simmons makes split-second decisions based on less-than-sufficient information. except with fitz. think about how long it took her just to say “maybe there is”. even if her feelings were ambiguous, based on her behavior in other aspects of her life, we could have expected her to kiss him in the pod or at any point in season 2, to say “let’s give this a go, let’s try this and see what happens” -- because jemma simmons takes chances. except with fitz. so while we may never know when jemma fell in love with fitz, i am absolutely certain she has always loved him: because for all her willingness to put her own life and her own happiness on the line, fitz and their friendship are too precious to leave to chance. fitz is more precious than her own life. and that’s goddamn beautiful.

pft disappointment? No way. Let's have some optimism. Just because they are planning to go ahead on the FS romance in no way means Jemma can't have her own story line. She can have both in a good show, love and ambition. And I'd like to believe this is a good show. She and May are going to be working together and stopping evil and making chemicals and she's gonna learn to defend herself. It's happening. Believe it. She's a little bit of everything (all rolled into one ;) )

The history of the show sadly speaks otherwise. Now I’m totally for a good show giving characters a storyline of their own and romances… but Fitzsimmons has been exclusively about how Fitz feels and moving forward Fitz’s “hero” arc.

I want to believe that AoS is a good show but they keep giving us this Nerdboy Nice Guy Fantasy that is Fitzsimmons. They have done a lot right, a lot, I give them that but when it’s your fave that’s getting the misogyny end of the writing stick and the string of dead love interests… yeah it’s blinding to the good at times.

I want to believe that Jemma will have a part in the show that I don’t have to ignore in order to not want to punch something repeatedly in the face… but I thought that was happening last season… and then Fitz co-opted everything. If Jemma and May actually have a conversation and Fitzsimmons doesn’t come up and it’s not just exposition? I will be shocked in the best possible way.

Some Ideas for the Jemma Simmons Support Squad:

May teaches her meditation and boxing techniques, because sometimes you can will away pain and fear and guilt, but sometimes u gotta exorcise that shit.

Hunter leans toward the exorcism side. He teaches her how to throw stuff & break plates in the most satisfying manner. (And surprises her with the ability to make a decent cup of tea).

Trip meant to give her an old picture of his grandpa’s, of Peggy Carter. Going through his stuff after The Thing Of Which We Don’t Speak, she finds it with a note on it, and she keeps it somewhere special to inspire her when she’s feeling lost or weak. She also has his knife.

Bobbi & Simmons talk about biochem a lot, especially about developments in the field since Bobbi fell out of the R&D loop in favour of fieldwork, and about times science (or bullshit!science) helped Bobbi out in the field. And also that general biochemist-to-spec-ops path Simmons has been eyeing for a while now.

Lincoln praises her courage & extolls her virtues to the others because she’s a badass did you see what happened to her like I hope you all know she’s an epic badass. He also praises her medical skill and she’s all, well you know, necessity invention etc etc - oh wait you’re a medical doctor aren’t you explain to me all the things am I doing this right is this or this better?

The more I think about it, the more worried I am that Jemma is the one who dies.

That might actually be worse than fitz dying. Because it would kill him too.

Jemma’s feelings? Emotions?? Thoughts??? Jemma a character by herself??? Jemma a character??? Her own person??? Lol who the fuck is Jemma??? Don’t you mean Fitz’s girl???

So the thing I keep coming back to is what it was like for Jemma to swim up that ninety feet of water. Because it probably felt like an eternity where she couldn't breathe and had only one arm to swim with and the chances that Fitz was already dead were pretty high. Like, neither one of them really thought it was possible for them both to survive, and she could feel his cold, limp body dragging her down, this reminder that probably her first and definitely her best friend, the only person who'd ever really been able to reach her, was gone from the world. Giving up was probably really tempting.

She just said "it's fitting we're here together". She just said, essentially, "I don't want to live without you."

But here's the thing. She was willing to risk the agony of losing him for the chance to save him. Fitz was ready to give his life for her, and that's brave and incredible and heroic, but Jemma was ready to endure a lifetime of grief and pain and isolation for him. And that's just - like - wow.

This is still the most incredible thing in the entire show to me.

for the record

I’ve seen some posts floating around about how Jemma hasn’t done enough to earn Fitz or that she should have to prove herself and her feelings for him before getting this relationship. Admittedly I’m generally a trusting, optimistic, uncritical viewer, but I have to disagree. Firstly because I think it’s been apparent to all since at the latest her videos to Fitz from Maveth that she loves him and cares about him as more than just friends. He’s seen those too so he knows. Secondly, so the girl was confused about her feelings or didn’t know what to do about them. That’s so human. I can’t fault her for that. And third, I don’t believe she would ever intentionally hurt Fitz, and I think he knows that too and knew it even when she was unintentionally hurting him. Fourth, I don’t see healthy relationships as being built on proving or earning anything. There’s absolutely some healing and rebuilding that needs to go on for Fitzsimmons, from both directions, and I think a ton of that has happened behind the scenes, but if Jemma had to spend her time trying to prove her love it would add toxicity and insecurity and power imbalance to their relationship and their friendship.  And lastly, Fitz has autonomy here. He’s chosen this. He knew it would be hard and could take a long time and he chose to try. Fitz is aware of the shit Jemma’s been through and the choices she’s made. He’s aware of the mistakes they’ve both made. He’s the only who can make the call about whether he’s ready to be with her.

there seem to be a lot of people confused on the subject, so friendly reminder that it’s fitz who asks jemma for answers before she ever asks him for help.

in fact, she’s trying to keep her research (and thus, her plans to go back to the planet for will) a secret from him. and when she finds him going through her research, she snatches it away from him and tells him to stay away from her stuff.

later that same episode, it’s fitz who confronts jemma about why she wants to open the portal. and it’s only then that she finally asks him for help.

jemma was trying to do it on her own before fitz came to her and asked her about research she had never invited him to look at. he asked her about it before she ever asked him for help. 

and yet people still call her selfish and insist that she manipulated or pressured fitz into helping her.

it’s funny how fitz is lauded for doing everything possible to try and get jemma back and how that makes him this absolutely amazing and strong person, but as soon as she’s physically back in the picture and he decides to once again help her, he suddenly becomes “poor fitz,” who is being manipulated by that selfish jemma, who apparently only cares about having her under his thumb.

How annoying is that so much of the Jemma tag on here is either f/s related or people reducing this storyline with Jemma to be nothing but love triangle related? I am so fed up with this fandom! Jemma is so much more then a ship but they can't seem to see it!

I had no idea it was so bad! I usually stay out of the tags for aos characters simply because I just reblog what comes across my dash but I was so excited about last night’s episode (which I loved) that I ventured in the Jemma tag and just - oh my god. I couldn’t believe it!

Apparently Jemma is not allowed to think about anything but Fitz, love anyone but Fitz, do anything without Fitz, or be a person outside of who she is with Fitz. She is basically not allowed to exist if Fitz is not there for her to exist for. It’s…extremely fucked up.

I don’t think I’ll be venturing into that tag again. :(
