“We know the blood isn’t Two Brains. We've seen it happen before.” Jenkins replied with a shrug. “It still doesn’t hurt to have you two checked out.” Henry gave a shrug. They did make a fair point. Plus he was still shaken by earlier events. He wasn’t afraid of his boyfriend at all, but it was still a frightening experience nonetheless. Dr. Two Brains gave a nod. “Alright. You can look at Henry first while I go change Hugh.” The mad scientist dictated to the man. “Of course I’ll check on Henry while you get changed.” Hugh was grateful for Two Brains’ instructions. With the other three going out, it would give him some private time alone with Dr. Jekyll. Hugh was stunned when he felt the same thing with Henry as he felt with Robert much earlier. This was more than a strange coincidence. Did they both have some type of supernatural affliction he wasn’t familiar with? Maybe he could ask Dr. Jekyll about HJ7 and see if the man had any reaction towards it. Soon Archie, Patricia, and Jenkins left to go clean up the murder and dispose of the body. Before they left, each of them shot Henry a strange look. Henry hadn’t noticed it as he was still reeling from previous events. Two Brains was already in another room, getting ready to take a shower and change clothes. Edward though was aware of the strange looks the others were giving Henry. This confused him as he was supposed to be the suspicious one, not Jekyll. The henchmen got Henry a folding chair for him to sit on while Hugh examined him. Henry thanked them and let Hugh get to work. Henry and Hyde were surprised to see Hugh not pulling out any medical equipment. They were even further stunned when Hugh’s hands began to glow after he began touching Henry. Henry was fascinated by this. Did Dr. Mann have some unique super powers? “May ah ask how you are examining me health?” Henry inquired in a polite tone. “It’s a natural ability that I have. My species come from a medical planet. We are all basically alien doctors.” Hugh responded, not looking up at Henry. Henry looked flabbergasted. “You’re an alien doctor? That’s amazing! Are all of your species humanoid in appearance or is this a disguise? Do ye have the knowledge and abilities to heal any ailment? Why are ye e’re on Earth? Did ye tell Robert about your abilities when ye met him?” Henry’s eyes glinted and his expression was nearly manic. His Hyde side was beginning to show. Surprisingly, Hugh did not pay attention to his expression as he continued to examine Henry. His face scrunched up with some kind of frustration. It looked like he was digging around, looking for something and hadn’t found it yet. “I came to this planet to get away from my people because they are too cheery for my taste. I am capable of helping any dominant species from any planet. I am not capable of healing species that have not been discovered by my people. For instance, I am unfamiliar with the biology and medical aspects of the supernatural. Patricia has been teaching me about them. Also I did not tell your friend about my alien nature. I am only telling you because Dr. Two Brains loves you and trusts you.” Hugh explained in a professional but restrained tone. Henry’s manic expression fell and was replaced with a concerned frown. He finally was registering Hugh’s frustrated demeanor. “Is there something wrong?” Henry asked in a worried tone. Hugh let out a deep sigh and removed his hands from Henry. He then looked at the doctor with such seriousness and concern that it made both Jekyll and Hyde grow even more worried. “Dr. Jekyll, I am greatly concerned about your health. My scans of your body show that you have normal health for any human, but my doctor instincts are screaming that there is something terribly wrong about you. It’s not just you I’m afraid. I also have the same problem with your friend Dr. Robert Lanyon when I met him earlier today. Now, I must ask you two serious questions and please answer honestly. Do you or Dr. Lanyon have any supernatural afflictions and what is HJ7?” @unhingedexperimenter
Though someone this Miss Ito did know Henry Jekyll. Did his brother's new boyfriend get this woman to look into him? If so, why didn't this man just ask Dr.Two-Brains about himself? This raised more questions than it answered. Maybe Henry didn't have the courage to look into his brother after he gave him a little 'friendly' talk. Yet the thinly veiled threats Victor had made shouldn't have been enough to get the teacher looking into Dr.Two-Brains. There was also the fact that Henry had no idea that Victor could find out who was hacking. Perhaps the man was intelligent enough to have the heat on someone else just in case they were found out, but he didn't seem like the type to do so. Especially to someone he had entrusted The Society to. Victor was going to have to get a few agents to take a little trip to check out why they decided to hack like they did. Maybe Robert Lanyon had someone to do with Miss Itos hacking. It would be expected when the man's father had been murdered. Perhaps he wanted to make sure that Henry was safe. Maybe this man was protecting Henry from someone who was threatening him. This could've had the culprit retaliate against the doctor by going after Henry or Robert could be responsible for his own father's murder and for Mr. Carew's attempted murder. The reason both Mr. Hyde and Henry left could be because Robert was threatening one and framing the other. Victor felt a headache coming on. For now, he was going to find out exactly where Robert was. If he wanted to take over The Society, he would've easily done so. Yet he didn't, instead only oversaw important business. He couldn't scratch any of his theories out just yet. He didn't know what was going on, but he was going to find out. He didn't realize that Eris had finally gotten home. He didn't notice the sound of the apartment door opening and closing. “Victor, are you okay? You look like you're stressed about something.” He expressed his concern, brows furrowed. “Eris! I'm fine. I was just overthinking some things.” Eris went over to Victor and placed a kiss on his temple. “Get some rest, my sweet. You'll be able to figure things out better with fresh eyes.” Victor smiled at his boyfriend. “You're right. I'll take a nap. If you'll join me.” Eris smiled at that. He found Victor endearing. The toymaker closed his laptop. Meanwhile in another part of the city, two people were arguing. “Must you stalk these people? I would rather not have the police sniffing around if they take legal action.” The woman shook her head. “It is necessary. I must save that girl from that horrid man. Who knows what he could do to them. I'm doing what is right.” The blond man shook his head. “You admitted that you were interested in our plan.” Calvin frowned at that. “I didn't do anything too crazy. I promise.” Athena muttered under her breath. Athena began to pace a bit. She wanted Dr.Two-Brains to break and admit who he is. “You're making me dizzy, cousin.”
Athena gave a weak glare towards Calvin's rudeness. "You know I can't help it. I haven't been the same after what that demon did to me!" Athena snapped back. Calvin merely huffed. Deep down, he couldn't help but feel some intimidation from the mouse man, especially when he knew what that abomination was capable of. At first, Calvin was shocked to hear what the man did to his cousin. He had always viewed Steven, or Gene, or whatever it called himself, as a sniveling worm with goody moral ethics. He never thought that the man was capable of doing something that heinous, even with his paternal instincts heightened. Things made much more sense to Calvin once he learned of his former coworker's family background. "Very well. Continue with your plans. I have other matters to attend to." Calvin exclaimed in a haughty tone, waving off Athena's anger. Athena gave him a suspicious look. "What are you planning that is more important than my mission?" She inquired. "Well why you have been playing vigilante stalker to a babysitter and her charge, I have been looking into the reason for the Mad Science League's sudden movement here." Calvin explained. Athena looked surprised at that. "Adrian Barton is here?" The B.E.A.W labs' leader has expressed interest in the mysterious Mad Science League. A small group of scientists lead by a self proclaimed immortal man whose made it his mission to fight against tyranny and corruption of the higher classes. Adrian Barton and his associates had proven too slippery for capture due to the man's chaotic and unpredictable movements. Athena was curious and confused as to why he came here of all places. "We don't know why he is here or what business he has, but for some reason he has made himself more open in public though he has maintained a cautious guard. I last saw him talking with Professor Doohickey, though I highly doubt the reason he came to this city was to help the man's predicament." Calvin answered as if he seemed to understand what his cousin was thinking. "Do you think it has something to do with the murder of Mr. Hastie Lanyon?" Athena asked as she recalled hearing about the murder. Calvin shook his head. "I doubt Barton was behind that. He has a clear hatred for the rich and elite, but he would have been more subtle in killing that man, actually making it look like a robbery in progress that went bad. There is another reason why Mr. Barton is here. One in which I intend to find out. So hopefully your antics won't interfere in my mission. Good day Athena." Soon Calvin walked away, leaving the deranged woman to her own thoughts and delusions. "Blimey! Those cleaners know how to clean out goop stains. It looks brand new." Hyde exclaimed in a joyous tone once he received his outfit from Rachel. "Yep. It appears people getting their clothes ruined by goop is a common occurrence around here. So they developed a new way to remove the stains and residue even thought it takes a lot of time. It's definitely well worth it. I must say." Rachel replied with agreement. Hyde ginned widely at his clean outfit. He then looked back towards Rachel. "So, anything happened while ah was gone?" Hyde inquired. Rachel quickly shook her head. "Not really. Like I said, we waited a long time at the cleaners. Also Wordgirl showed up trying to stop a robbery caused by Lady Redundant Woman. She gave a wave to Amber before she flew off. Amber got a little fussy on the way home, but it was likely due to us being out for so long. She's fine now." Rachel explained. Hyde nodded but the usually grinning blonde had a serious expression as he thought back to what happened and what Whiskers admitted to him. "Did Wordgirl seem okay to ye?" Hyde inquired. Rachel looked confused by his question and expression. "She seemed alright to me. Why do you ask?" Rachel was surprised to hear Hyde express genuine concern for anyone that wasn't Amber, herself, or one of the lodgers. Hyde let out a sigh and proceeded to explain what happened today with Two Brains and his sister. @unhingedexperimenter

Familiar Stranger part 1
Tumblr media
Part 1 // 2 // 3 // 4
“That’ll be $7.50 please” you say after scanning all the items. Your smile is returned with a scowl and it forces you to reel it in your smile a little. After the customer leaves you let out a sigh and massage the back of your neck revelling in how good it felt.
“You ok Y/N” your supervisor asks as he makes his hourly rounds. You shoot him a thumbs up and a bright smile.
“Keep up that attitude and you’ll get to be employee of the month again” he chuckles as he leans against your counter marking off some thing on his clipboard. Jesse wasn’t much older than you but unlike you this was his full time job. You were temping there to earn some extra income as you completed your doctoral thesis. The job paid peanuts but it was something to do to take your mind off your writing. Plus the small staff at the hardware store were all nice to you and immediately accepted you as one of them even though you had only just started 2 months ago.
“I’m trying Jesse but some of the customers here are so glum” you answer him a playful pout on your face.
“Yea well…it’s not all bad, Y/N” he smiles sympathetically, “don’t let it get to you like it has Jonah” he points his pen in the direction of the other checkout attendant.
Jonah was fine on a personal level. He was friendly and funny and had a killer smile. But whenever he was behind the counter his demeanour was replaced with cold professionalism. It was like watching Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. When you asked him about it he said that he got tired of smiling at people who never smiled back.
“Ay Y/N cover for me I need to pee” Jonah whisper shouts as he jumps on the spot squeezing his knees together.
You shoot him a quick nod and a toothy grin as you wave a customer towards you.
“Hi there” you say starting to scan the items on the conveyor belt.
Mallet, machete, duck tape, rope, bandages, wrench, camping gear you mentally make a note of the things you’re scanning.
“Will that be….” you look up and somehow lose the ability to speak.
“…all?” the beautiful stranger completes your sentence for you, “yes that’s it” she says a smile on her face.
You’re still staring.
She removes her sunglasses.
You’re still staring.
She cocks her head to one side.
“Sorry” you blink a few times, “will that be all?”
“You’ve already asked me that” she laughs.
“Oh shit!” you cheeks burn red, “I mean sorry…shit…sorry…I shouldn’t say…”
She chuckles again, “that’s ok, you’re fine” she tucks a stray piece of hair behind her ear, “you’re fine” she winks at you, “how much do I owe you” she says fishing out a black credit card.
“Umm th-that’ll be $67.80 please” you stutter taking the card she holds out to you.
And if you thought you couldn’t embarrass yourself anymore in front of this gorgeous woman you stick the credit card the wrong way into the card reader. Glancing up at her and smiling sheepishly you whisper a sorry before pulling it out and reinserting it the right way in. All the while she’s watching you with a smirk on her face.
When the transaction is complete you hand her back the card and note that her fingers brush yours as she takes it back. The touch sends a jolt through you causing you to shudder a little.
“Thank you…” she leans in to read your nametag, “…Y/N”
“Thank you Ms. Romanoff” you manage to give her a 100 watt smile before watching her saunter off.
“WAS THAT THE BLACK WIDOW?” Jesse rushes towards you his hands still wet from the bathroom visit.
“Yea” you sigh a silly look on your face, “I think I’m in love” you sink back onto your stool.
“Dammit why did I have to go and pee just then!” he moans aloud walking back to his station and you laugh at him.
“Well if you’ve got bladder control problems then urine trouble” you add using finger guns to punctuate the punchline.

Ways to watch Jekyll & Hyde online!
Tumblr media
I recently saw someone interested in watching Jekyll & Hyde, so I decided to spend some time today to put a post together!  Here’s information about (and links to) six productions of the show that you can watch online!
The 2001 Broadway Cast DVD
Tumblr media
Starring: David Hasselhoff (Jekyll / Hyde), Coleen Sexton (Lucy Harris), Andrea Rivette (Emma Carew)
(Starting with this one because this is the only non-bootleg, commercially available version of Jekyll & Hyde, and I’m sure this is the main version people are familiar with and I wanna go over this before getting to the rest.)
Good: It’s a beautifully filmed professional recording of the show on Broadway, something that most shows never get! The supporting cast (many of whom were from the original cast and played their roles from the beginning of the run to the end) is wonderful. When the focus is on the non-Jekyll aspects of the production, it’s really amazing. Coleen Sexton and Andrea Rivette are truly amazing.
Evil: David Hasselhoff. I give him props for taking on a very difficult role that is well outside of his comfort zone, and it’s clear to see that the man gave it his absolute all. He really wanted to take this on, and he really tried his best. (Here’s a four-minute interview about his experience with the show and the work he put into it - he had oxygen backstage, and he actually passed out onstage briefly after “The Way Back”.) However, watching him as Jekyll and Hyde, it’s just unavoidable that he’s just not very good. I’ll leave it at that.
How Can I Watch It?: It gets uploaded to Youtube and Dailymotion from time to time, but I couldn’t find it there today. However, you can watch it here, and a commercial for his time in J&H here. Just be warned: this is no day at the beach.
The 2001 Broadway Cast (rehearsal!)
Tumblr media
Starring: Rob Evan (Jekyll / Hyde), Coleen Sexton (Lucy Harris), Andrea Rivette (Emma Carew)
Good: If you were thinking “well, I wish that there was a professionally recorded version without David Hasselhoff”, This is basically, shot for shot, the same as the Hasselhoff version, but with Rob Evan instead, and it’s a fundamentally different experience. Rob Evan (who replaced Robert Cuccioli on Broadway in 1998) is a great actor and singer, who went on to play the role again in the “concert” versions in 2005 - 2006.
Evil: It’s 480p quality, but that’s the only real downside.
How Can I Watch It?: Right here!
The Original Broadway Cast (1997)
Tumblr media
Starring: Robert Cuccioli as Jekyll and Hyde, Linda Eder as Lucy Harris and Christiane Noll as Emma Carew.
Good: The original Broadway cast is amazing. This is a personal opinion on my part but Robert Cuccioli is the definitive Jekyll / Hyde. His Tony-nominated performance is awesome, and it really elevates the show. Linda Eder and Christiane Noll are also absolutely wonderful in their roles, and the talent in this cast is just amazing. Unlike the above two recordings, this one’s a bootleg, but it’s still a really great watching experience.
Evil: Really, the only possible downside is that this cast didn’t have a professional recording. Just press reels, a nice bootleg, and TV appearances. That’s really the only downside. This cast is awesome.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch 20 minutes of professionally shot press reels here (featuring several songs), you can watch the whole show with this cast here, and you can watch some TV appearances here: “In His Eyes” , “This Is The Moment” and “Dangerous Game” (featuring Rob Evan as Jekyll, who was the alternate for Cuccioli before taking over the role himself in 1998) Or if you’re short on time, just watch Cuccioli do “Confrontation” live.
But wait!  I want something different from the Broadway adaptation!
Well, Jekyll & Hyde went through a lot of changes on the road to Broadway, and after the show hit Broadway, many of productions changed things further or even changed things back to the earlier versions. The following productions all interpret the material differently, and all of them have script / music changes from the Broadway version. (Many of them stick closer to or take elements from the 1994 Concept Album with Anthony Warlow.)
The Pre-Broadway Tour (1995)
Tumblr media
Starring: Robert Cuccioli as Jekyll and Hyde, Linda Eder as Lucy Harris and Christiane Noll as Lisa Carew.
Good: Where Broadway is more subdued, the 95′ tour went for darker Victorian gothic horror / melodrama and I adore it. Much of the staging, sets and costumes are very different from the Broadway version. The script has some really impactful, chilling moments that were cut from the Broadway version.  It incorporates more of the popular ‘94 Gothic Musical Thriller album, with songs like Bring On The Men and Girls Of The Night included. (Lucy Meets Hyde is there and that’s something I want back in the show, dammit). And it’s got the same wonderful cast that went on to originate the role on Broadway. I really, really like this version and wish that the show had stayed a bit closer to this in parts.
Evil: The picture quality is not great and there’s not a lot of super close zooms, however it’s a bootleg of a really interesting time in the show’s history and I can get past it. Some people find some moments in the script overdramatic.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch the whole thing right here! You can also listen to some clips from the soundboard of the show, of Robert Cuccioli singing “Alive” and “Confrontation” here!
The Original Bremen Production (1999-2002)
Tumblr media
Starring (in this video): Darius Merstein-Macleod (Jekyll / Hyde), Maricel (Lucy Harris), Michaela Kovarikova (Lisa Carew)
Good:  The Bremen production was the first international production of Jekyll & Hyde, and they definitely do not copy the Broadway version exactly. They make interesting changes that I feel make the show stronger, and the design and the orchestra are absolutely gorgeous. They make some changes to the running order of things that I think make the beginning of the show flow so much better. The design choices are gorg (I LOVE the color palette of this production, oh my gosh) and the orchestra is absolutely stunning (though that’s best showcased on the 1999 album, one of my favorites to listen to.) Really, really interesting and awesome production.
Bad: None, really! This cast isn’t the original cast, if you’re hard pressed on that.
How Can I Watch It?: You can watch the full show right here, and some professionally shot clips with the lead actor in this video. The same production design and direction all around was used for two more German productions in Vienna and Koln - you can watch the Vienna one here, starring Thomas Borchert, Maya Hakvoort and Eva Maria Marold. And about that 1999 album that’s one of my favorites to listen to... shhhh. SHHHh. Enjoy.
The 2013 Broadway Revival
Tumblr media
Starring: Constantine Maroulis as Jekyll / Hyde, Deborah Cox as Lucy Harris, and Teal Wicks as Emma Carew.
Good: This is the most recent major U.S production of Jekyll & Hyde. The singers are all excellent, and the scenic design has more of a “steampunk” edge to it, and they use projections in an interesting way, especially in “Confrontation”. They do relatively little to fundamentally change the currently licensed script, but all the songs are completely musically reworked in more of a pop-rock style, and there are bits that are reinstated from the concept album (Lucy Meets Hyde, Jekyll’s “It’s over now, I know inside” intro from “Confrontation”). It’s really interesting, the singers are actually fantastic, and I like some of the musical arrangements!
Evil: Objectively, none. This revival totally changed up the sound and look of the show, and those changes can be polarizing, but it’s really up to you whether or not you personally like it.
Where can I watch it?: Act 1 is here, and Act 2 is here! Here’s a tiny montage of some songs from the show as well!
Other Productions:
Tumblr media
I didn’t want to leave out a lot of other productions of the show that you can watch online, so here are two other interesting productions of the show I enjoy that you can watch online:
The 2014 Russian Production. The design is fabulous, the singers are great (the music is a nice mix of the classic orchestrations and the 2013 arrangements), and the set is absolutely amazing. Love this production. The set change from “Transformation” to “Alive” is AWESOME. Pick your poison: Ivan Ozhogin: Act 1 / Act 2, Kirill Gordeev: Act 1 / Act 2, or my underrated fave, Rostislav Koplakov: Act 1 / Act 2 .
This 2007 outdoor German production. Watch it right here! I haven’t watched this whole thing, but it starts during daytime and by the time the show ends it’s dark, which is really cool)
Whichever way you choose to watch Jekyll & Hyde, I really hope you enjoy the show! It’s one of my absolute favorites.
Also, if you want to listen to the show, you can listen to these albums on Youtube!
1990′ Concept Album

Sick MC/Reader cont.
Anon:   Hi! We have main trio dealing with sick MC, but can you please write headcanons for other characters as well?
Of course!  For those new, the mini sick headcanon was the first one I did while forced to be at work during a dead day while recovering from a cold.  Link to be found here.
(understand that this request was made long before the pandemic)
Tumblr media
Mycroft Holmes
A low grade fever means he wants you in bed resting.  Pushing yourself means your low fever could get worse.  If you do get worse, of course he’ll see about having a doctor come over to check on you.  Probably John due to knowing he can trust him.  Though if it’s more complicated then he would ask someone who has a specific knowledge in the field (despite if the person lacks bedside manner).  His worry about you does not stop unless he knows how you’re doing.  If he has to work and you’re home sick he will set up a camera so he can check in on you more easily.  Though he’d want to be home with you to take care of you.  Which is very sweet, but also a little concerning as that means one terrible thing: Homemade chicken noodle soup.
Jack Stillman (warning: this is more based off of the him that I’ve headcanoned instead of what we got in his route)
Once it’s confirmed he’s in love he has a way of showing it.  He might be a little bit of a sadist, and likes to tease, but he is always deadly seriously about safe words and not liking things happening to you that he’s not in control of.  Little scrapes and bruises are met with scolding and a keen doctor eye.  Which makes illnesses all the more frustrating.  He will take you at your word that you’re fine unless he finds proof otherwise.  A sniffle.  Looking a little pale or ‘green around the gills’.  All are indicators for him to check on you.  If you prefer to do things on your own he will be beside you each step of the way to make sure you don’t get into serious trouble.  Otherwise he will have strict doctor’s orders to follow and he expects you to listen.  While he might not make a habit of staying at your place regularly, this is a special circumstance.  You can find him sleeping on your sofa with a timer near by to wake him up to check on you.
  Sebastian Moran
He is not the best at knowing when you’re sick.  He’s also not the best at knowing how to handle it.  No matter the illness, once he knows, he’s insisting you stay in his bed.  He’ll bring you different home remedies for what ails you.  And others that make no sense.  Any and all ‘old wives tales’ that he finds are going to be tried if only so he can do something to help you.  Course he’d let James know, but mostly so they end up both trying to take care of you.  He might even drag Jack into his room and tell him to make you better.  Only to watch with a careful eye and most likely a ready trigger in case Jack tries anything, even if he exclaims that Sebastian needs to calm down and let him work.  You can guarantee that once Jack and James have gone to bed Sebastian will be herding his cats into the room so that they may snuggle with you.  Sometimes just being with those that comfort you can be the best medicine when you have nothing else at your disposal.
  Jeremy Cassel
This guy knows how to make home made meals that are meant to comfort you or help get different vitamins into you when you need them.  Or so he’s read, and heard, mostly from Mycroft.  He will insist, no matter the illness that you get up and walk, even a little bit, even if it’s from the bed to the balcony.  Fresh air and sunlight.  If he cannot move you from your place to his, then he will be there with you, making sure everything stays clean, making sure your windows stay open.  He will do what legitimate work he can from your place.  But he will have, more or less, moved in.  This man also has little to no care for his own safety as he holds you at night, trying to comfort you.  Most likely getting himself sick in the process.
  Hercule Poirot
He will clean everything.  You can stay at your own home, which is fine, but firstly he will see about getting professional cleaners to take care of the rest of your home.  He will want to oversee it of course.  Helping get you to the sofa to let them clean your bedroom before you go back to lying down.  Whatever made you sick had to be removed.  Which means changing your bedding everyday.  Also insists on having you taking a bath and that he helps.  Which first sounds flustering, until he comes into the bathroom with elbow length gloves and a face mask on to make sure he doesn’t catch what you have so he can keep monitoring you and not feel compromised.  He will read you to sleep, make sure the food you eat is nutritious and easy on your stomach if needed.  You can ask him for a full report on what you went through as he’s made note of it.  In case there was any pattern that meant he needed to get the opinion of a specialist.
  Arthur Hastings
If you say it’s nothing, he will agree.  If you tell him that you’re just tired, he will believe you.  Up until the moment you pass out from fever or can no longer talk from your sore throat.  He will take you at your word, not because he’s a gullible person, but because he trusts that you would be doing what you can to take care of yourself.  After all, if you got sick you’d be worrying a lot of fans, friends, and family.  Especially your boyfriend.  Once he knows you’re sick he will make recommendations, but will not always be able to enforce it because he cannot take time off of work to stay home.  But he can conference call you often and keep you on the call so he can check in on you and you can talk to him whenever you want or need to.  It gives him a piece of mind to be able to see you while you’re sick, and he likes to think it makes you feel better being able to see him.  When he can be there he will try to make sure you take care of yourself.  If you are supposed to be doing something and are too tired he will help you do it.  He wants you to know you can depend on him.
  George Lestrade
This fool will not notice unless it becomes abundantly clear.  You telling him, or straight out collapsing on him, or throwing up in front of him(That last one will have him reeling at first, worrying that you’re pregnant or poisoned).  He does try his best afterwards to take care of you, but he has a more hands off approach, asking what you need and jumping to get it done ASAP.  You say you need fried chicken from the place across town to sooth your fever?  ON IT.  You say that you need him to rub your back in the bath to keep your nausea at bay?  He will climb in that tub fully clothed if you don’t remind him to take off his clothes at first.  He struggles at times to take care of himself, and he struggles at times to remember how to properly look after you.  He knows this, and tries.  Which means if you say you need something he will not question it.  Even if John comments about what you really should be getting, because surely you know better, it’s not like John’s a doc- (be kind to him.  He is gullible.  He will eventually remember that John is not just Sherlock’s assistant, but actually a doctor)
  Mikah Hudson (older Mikah)
Immediately excited that he has a chance to show you how good he is at taking care of you!  He sends you to bed, and later comes back with soup, but first he insists on taking your temperature.  Is constantly looking up your symptoms just in case, and paying attention to different forums to see if there is any bug going around.  Anything that could give him a heads up on what to expect.  There is a box of tissues if your nose starts running, and two more back up boxes, just in case you need them.  There are many times when you wake up in the middle of the night to find him sleeping on the floor so he is there to make sure you’re okay.  You being sick makes it hard for him to focus on anything else.  John will sneak in to check on you.  If he tries to do it with Mikah there, Mikah is right over his shoulder making sure that he isn’t trying to hit on you in your vulnerable state.  He will get a baby monitor if you let him so he can keep listening in on you while he’s tries to take care of 221B, but if Sherlock makes any loud noises that could wake you up, there will be hell to pay.
  Henry Jekyll
Despite what others may think of him, he is not a physician.  He is a chemist.  That said, when he realizes you are sick, he will start to make recommendations on you resting and starting to address your minor symptoms.  If you get worse he will just as calmly suggest what you to do to take care of yourself.  While he insists that he cannot force you to take care of yourself, he is checking in on you often, despite the pleas that he focuses on his work.  Taking care of his brother has given him a view on taking care of the sickly as ‘you can only do so much if they insist on wearing themselves out’.  This doesn’t stop him from worrying and wanting to be by your side, reading to you, getting you food himself.  Anything to help watch over you, the most he can do is order for food to be delivered to you so he knows you’re at least getting that while he’s away.
  Edward Hyde
He doesn’t pay too much attention to small stuff.  Chalking it up to allergies or not enough sleep.  If you got sick to the point of needing of feeling fatigued or dizzy from fever he immediately sits you down and gets you comfortable.  As soon as he’s sure you’re good he’ll be in the other room calling Henry to get advice.  His voice on the edge of panic and uncertainty, if this was someone bothering you, sure, easy fix.  However, with a disease there was little he could do besides follow the directions Henry gives him while he watches over you.  He’d still go out and take care of things, but you have his phone number.  He also calls you every few hours to make sure you’re okay.  If he has to go out while you’re very unwell he will call Henry to come watch over you.
‘Irene’ (based off of the conwoman headcanon)
Did she have medical training?  Maybe.  She’d never tell you.  Mostly because that wasn’t what was important.  Starting from a mild fever she’d start tracking your symptoms, asking for help moving furniture if it got to the point that she needed to make sure you were well rested.  Meaning the bed was going into the living room so she could cook and not have to go too far to see you.  Every cough or sniffle was scrutinized as she worried over you.  She’d hold you and cuddle you every chance she got, but she would go and wash up afterwards just in case.  No sense in getting you better only to have you turn around and have to take care of her.

Adaptation: Jekyll & Hyde Character Design & Screenplay Project.
Tumblr media
The first project brief of unit BA2a was a two part project consisting of both script design in the form of a short screenplay as well as character design and animation around the adaptation of the well known tale, ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Character Design;
The design and animation content of this project required us to produce the following;
- Character Research and Development Bible
- Character Reel
- Experimentation Reel
- Reflective Journal
The character research and development bible was to be approached in two ways. The first being a recorded research document or blog with the evidence of research, collected and gathered that developed and pushed forward the project. The second (development/Character bible) would be a document expressing and displaying the stages you took to find the characters. This would include, initial research and development stages such as a mood board as well as the following character design processes. These include, shape, silhouette, colour theory and posing. This character bible was to act as the behind the scenes of our finalised characters to express how we came to our final designs.
The character reel was a collection of animation produced with our finalised characters to bring through the personalities we will have developed around them through the screenplay and script aspect of the project.
The character reel required us to produce;
-  An animated turnaround, showing the full 360 view of our character design
- A character walk cycle which would display character performance within, having its own personalised weight, effort and related performance for our character
- An lastly a animated sequence of our choosing which would relate to the characters personality and story, showing a glimpse into how this character would act if it were to be fully realised into a film.
For this project we have free reign as to what medium we intend to go down and for this project i have chosen to continue with my development within stop-motion fabrication and animation by deciding to create my character within the medium.
Narrative and Screenplay;
For this aspect of the project we would be focusing more on the source material, the book; Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and using this to develop our own adaptation of the novel which we could visualise in the medium of animation.
For this we are tasked to read the book and analyse the aspects that it addresses within its story, how these aspects were received or perceived during the time the book was published and how we could use the information to adapt the moral dilemmas and taboo topics it addresses in a more modern era. To help us understand this to further our own interpretation we were shown other interpretations of the source material in order to see how others had adapted the novel.
Using the information we would gather we would then use our understanding of the novel to write a thousand word screenplay of our adaptation, relating to our character design and world building we would create alongside this narrative element of the project. In addition a thousand word essay evaluating our screenplay would complete the full two thousand word text for submission for this project. This additional thousand word essay would be a critical analysis of the screenplay and whether it could be adapted for the medium of animation.
The submission requirements for this side of the project only consist of the 2,000 word text as previously discussed as well as a link to a research portfolio either in the format of a blog or PDF document.
Overall, i am very excited to learn the fundamentals of narrative story writing and screenplay as it is both integral for this project as well as for future projects within year 3 and career development as an animator. I am also looking forward to work with Barry Leith again within puppet fabrication hoping to improve and develop my understanding and skill with creating characters through stop motion to a professional standard.

Rehearsal rant!
With---THAT'S RIGHT! YOU GUESSED IT!---your's truly, Maggie
So,
Not many of you know this. Not only am I dedicated to my school's self funding theatre program as well as high school Chorale, but I'm also part of a rather sizable singing group---Eagle Entertainers---directed by our Chorale teacher that does mostly a capella performances. We have a couple songs put together for our concert happening this upcoming Tuesday. One of which is You're the One That I Want from Grease. Our director decided let's spice this up a bit and elected to have a peer of mine, who I love and respect, choreograph a dance for the song based on the Just Dance video she found. She was initially teaching us the dance herself, but had to leave town on personal business. The day before she left, she and our vocal director put me in charge of teaching the rest of the choreography to everyone else. My friend marked notes in the sheet music provided and gave me a few demonstrations before she had to leave. I felt confident.
I went into rehearsals with a smile and hope. I tweaked a few things here and there to fit the comfort of the group with the permission of our director. I then reported back to my friend via Snapchat with updates and concerns. During these rehearsals, I was blown off and belittled by one of our sopranos. (She has been known to cause seriously, unnecessary drama during musical season. Many of my castmates don't care for her. She pouted and whined and trash talked for weeks after audition callbacks and castlist announcements when she was cast as newsie IKE instead of Medda Larkin. She often sang over our much more talented Medda Larkin in rehearsals. She didn't get the role because she causes issues and quiet frankly cannot develop a character deeper than a dollar store kiddie pool cause she can't act---she's saltier than the ocean itself. That's just a tiny bit in the garden of garbage she's dragged through everyone else's happy life. She has screamed at fellow singers and made them cry before concerts, purposefully excluded people in open group conversations, upstaged other actors in order to be the center of attention---this was told to us by professional judges who run the WNY sector of the Jimmy's national high school theatre awards---blown off rehearsals just because she thinks she can do as she pleases whenever she pleases, has fought with our directors, insulted staff behind their backs, made our prodigy dancer cry and flee the building because oh yeah SHE KNOWS BEST, talked shit about our vocal director for tiny mistakes and then pulls a Jekyll and Hyde pretending as though she adores her. During a rehearsal, our director had to leave early to attend a very important function and left me in charge and to assist our choreographer. Said choreographer was having considerable difficulty getting everyone to listen because there were side conversations going on and she was on the cusp of losing her voice entirely. I took it upon myself to redirect them and get the rehearsal back on track by shouting (without a negative tone), "Hey, guys! Mrs. Hillery needs your attention, please!" Everyone listened and she was in the middle of talking when this rude ass chick mockingly yelled at me, "Sorry, are you the director, Margie? I didn't think so" in front of our entire cast and paid teacher/choreographer who later told me that what she did to me was way out of line. I've asked this girl countless times not to call me Margie because it was a nickname used by other people to bully me as a child and BECAUSE I'M LITERALLY LISTED AS STUDENT PRODUCTION DIRECTOR IN THE PROGRAM AND THE ACTUAL PLAYBILL ITSELF AND I KNOW THE SHOW INSIDE AND OUT AND COVER Hannah and Mr. Jacobi and Stage Manager and back up newsies and backstage mic vocal support AND OPEN THE SHOW WITH MY SELF SCRIPTED PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! She has done this and so much more to ruin other people's theatre experience and personal lives, but I'm not going to go into further detail for the sake of brevity. Did I mention that I'm actively pursuing a professional career in theatre as an actor, will soon enough be studying it in college, working up my credits at an Equity theatre and joining the Equity Actor's Union because I'm passionate about what I do because I love it and hope to entertain and inspire the audiences I perform before???)
This by no means makes me better than her. Just saying! Back to my story...
I was put in charge of teaching choreography because our vocal director and my very talented friend said I would lead well, get the job done, and that they know I'll do it all with a smile on my face in the process because that's the type of enthusiasm I bring to every rehearsal and performance regardless of the medium because this is the stuff I live for.
This girl had the balls to call me out on my mistake of saying step ball change instead of step ball step. She passive aggressively harped on it for the whole rehearsal. Then once my friend came back and rejoined the group, SHE BROUGHT IT UP AGAIN AND STAYED ON IT FOR FIVE WHOLE MINUTES and wasted precious time we had with our athletes before they had to leave for track practice. I get there's a difference I KNOW BECAUSE I TOOK FUCKING TAP AND JAZZ AND ACRO FOR YEARS. I let this go. I let it go. Let her be rude. Who cares, right?
We continue to run through the dance a few times. Everyone is dismissed and I hang back just to debrief and recap with my vocal director. That same fucking soprano also hung back and decided to tell me that I'm too "enthusiastic" while I'm performing the song. She told me I should reel it in so she and a few others will look good without putting much effort and ENTHUSIASM into the performance. That's all well and good.
Here's what I said to her: Oh, okay. I can do that. Yeah, no big deal. No problem. Thanks for the feedback.
Here's what I wanted to say to her: Step ball change up your fucking game and get on my level, ya simple bitch.
My point is: I DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING TO HER AND SHE'S CONSTANTLY RUDE. DON'T LET TOXIC PERFORMERS GET THE BEST OF YOU. It's just not worth it. Be better than them.

The Second Blog About Fight Club...
I read the entire second half of Fight Club since my last blog, which was...interesting.
The Narrator and Tyler Durden greatly expanded the soap company and created a group called Project Mayhem, comprised of the most loyal men from Fight Club (which has spread nationwide thanks to copycats). These men essentially wreak mayhem around the area (as the name suggests), which I will get to shortly. It is also revealed that Tyler Durden is actually the Narrator; when the Narrator “sleeps”, Tyler is awake. It is not the Narrator who is awake and moving, but it is Tyler in the Narrator’s body; a split personality. We’ll get to that in a second.
Tumblr media
The biggest theme in the book is consumerism in the modern world. Motives of the characters, the characters themselves, and events are all based on this negative view of consumerism and its consumption of our lives. While the narrator isn’t so obsessed with furniture anymore, Palahniuk doesn’t hold back his distaste for our obsession with the material. The book is a big comment on how this way of life is pathetic and it makes us lose our personality. Early on in the book, the Narrator mentions his obsession with purchasing sofas, or dish sets, or other basic household items, and says, “Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you” (Palahniuk, 44). That’s a pretty deep thing said from the standpoint of the Narrator, that we don’t just buy things anymore; they buy us. We are merely inferiors and our direct deposits are deposited directly at IKEA.
I think that what Palahniuk is trying to say is how destructive our behaviour is if we let it become destructive. After all, Tyler was just a figment of Mr. Furniture, Suits & Ties, Oh My!’s imagination because he himself was dissatisfied with his life, saying “At the time, my life just seemed too complete, and maybe we have to break everything to make something better out of ourselves” (Palahniuk, 52). He became fascinated with the thought of someone free of these metaphorical, monetary chains, and through his insomnia, he inadvertently developed Tyler Durden.
Tumblr media
Tyler Durden is the Narrator’s split personality, who comes alive when he is asleep. Tyler is the one who controls Fight Club, sets the rules, and, as previously stated, is the exact opposite of the Narrator. He does not rely on material goods or a nice place, shown by his house-shaped toilet that he rents on Paper Street with its minimal furnishings. While Tyler certainly influences the Narrator’s way of thinking and life in general, they are both distinctly different. Tyler has always been against the system. The Narrator is generally professional at his job as a product recall specialist, and Tyler splices frames of pornography into film reels as a movie projectionist and pees into soups as a waiter. This contrast between the two shows what the Narrator wants to do and what he actually does. Even at his regular job, it’s all about the company’s money; he has to determine if it’s more financially feasible to recall a car or to keep it out among the general populace. His whole career is based around money.
Project Mayhem is even started by Tyler to give purpose to the lives of those who have fallen into the system; “When Tyler invented Project Mayhem, Tyler said the goal of Project Mayhem had nothing to do with other people. Tyler didn't care if other people got hurt or not. The goal was to teach each man in the project that he had the power to control history. We, each of us, can take control of the world” (Palahniuk, 122). Tyler truly believes that mankind can be more capable by standing up against the system of perpetual purchasing, even if what you have to do is crazy-town-banana-pants levels of whacky and villainous, like castrating people or murdering politicians.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, Palahniuk goes a bit too far with his message. I think he gets his rocks off to this. His points and criticisms towards materialism and obsession of goods have some merit, but the crazy development of a split personality and a terrorist organization because an insomniac doesn’t enjoy his life makes it seem like this was the brainchild of a high school kid who has seen too much Rambo or Fast & Furious. I find the escalation of events, from an underground boxing club to a cult, to be a bit too severe and extreme. I feel like a more elegant and nuanced approach could have given the novel more realism and more of an effect on the reader. I’m not telling Palahniuk how to write, because he is a much better author and thinker than I am, but the situation is so blown out of proportion that I personally can not be moved by it.
In my personal life, I find myself to be materialistic. I like to put money towards things that are tangible and useful, like the computer I write this on. I also can’t help but prefer some brands over others. I’m afraid that Tyler Durden may castrate me sometimes, but frankly I didn’t find a need to change my lifestyle based on the content of the book. I’m happy with my life and I don’t find myself having any obvious reason to change it because I just haven’t hit a dead end or felt unmotivated and lifeless. So, truth be told, my beliefs haven’t really been challenged.
Oftentimes when I read, I usually thought about the big reveal of the Narrator being Tyler Durden because I knew about it beforehand. It gave me a different outlook and insight into the book as I saw the Narrator partake in a weird love triangle with...himself...and Marla Singer. It allows me to develop my own theories: how did Tyler come about? How does this “arrangement” work? How does the Narrator combat it once he realizes it? This sort of clairvoyance gives the reader another way to read the book. Admittedly, the great reveal would have been much more powerful if I had not known prior (THANKS MORGAN KELLY IN GRADE 11 ENGLISH) but regardless, it offers an interesting look at the novel.
Tumblr media
I find a lot of similarities between Fight Club and Jekyll and Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson. Both have a similar identity crisis going on: Dr Jekyll becomes Mr Hyde inadvertently when he goes to sleep, and the Narrator becomes Tyler Durden in the same case. Mr Hyde is self-indulgent and unforgiving, leading to him beating a woman and killing a man intentionally. Tyler is also like this, leading Project Mayhem (and all its fun activities!), Fight Club, and having sex with Marla Singer. They are both outlets for the main characters to indulge themselves. At a certain point, Dr Jekyll realizes it is he who is Mr Hyde; just like how the Narrator realizes it is he who is Tyler. They both try to eliminate their counterpart, too; Dr Jekyll drinks serums to prevent him from turning into Mr Hyde, and the Narrator shoots himself to be rid of Tyler. In the end, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are both dead, but the Narrator is in a mental institution and Tyler, as a character, is supposedly dead. These two stories both have strong themes of identity. The main characters both have primal, immoral sides of them that contrast with their “true” selves and ultimately shows the great complexity within our minds. From a psychological point of view, maybe their “true” selves are the superego and their immoral opposites are the id, both being balanced by the ego...I’m gonna let that marinade for a minute.
Tumblr media
While I think Palahniuk’s message may be flawed in its presentation, I have to admit that the book is a great read. The characters and the dynamic between them really fuels the plot forward, especially Tyler, whose anti-establishment views offer a psychotic glimpse into his ideal world where “You’ll hunt elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center, and dig clams next to the skeleton of the Space Needle leaning at a forty-five-degree angle” (Palahniuk, 124). The dialogue and writing style used by Palahniuk is unconventional, with a lot of line breaks, cuts, and brief phrases used often; it’s quite postmodernist. Ultimately, the book leaves you with something to mull over and chew on for weeks or months to come. Little things around you come to your attention, and realizations of the novel come to you randomly. It’s a fun, well written, deep novel with some real hard-hitting questions.
What more could you want?
