My b, I meant it more "it can't be harder to fail than Protection, given how the city is under attack like once a week"
But yea, I see what you mean. It's essentially Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria on a whole other level.
Also I see those tags OP, you-
*Shakes you* /pos
I will now be thinking solely on this.
Danny Phantom prompt/AU/idea thing
Contrary to popular belief, Danny's Obsession is not protection nor space. Danny wishes his obsession were so simple.
Well, not that Protecting is really simple. Or easy... Actually, it's probably better that his Obsession isn't protection. It'd be scarily easy to Fail.
Still, either of those would at least be cooler. Might make him cooler by proxy... Ah, there it goes again. His actual Obsession. See, Danny didn't die dreaming of something cool like space or badass like protecting people. No, no. Danny is, was, is; a stupid, reckless, bullied 14 year old.
Just desperate for Acceptance.

Ok bouncing off of this bc I love it and it makes crossover bs. Very fun and heartbreaking.
Bc what do you do when your literal core cries out for acceptance and community and you finally meet another teenage hero/vigilante (or a team of them) who has saved their home countless times, fought and failed and still got back up... But has never thought about vying for acceptance from others? Or even in extreme cases, spit in the face of that?
It's already a sensitive topic to talk about to humans, just given the meager understanding of ghosts in general. Add on the lovely teenage "they wouldn't get it" mentality and a generous helping of embarrassment?
Yea, you never bring that shit up - or even better, lie to make yourself look cool and accepted by said new friend/s to fulfill a bit of that Obsession.
But here's the thing; that kind of acceptance isn't real. It's empty. It's built on a lie after all, however partial it is. And once it comes undone - and it will, Danny, no matter how much you try - what happens then? You can hope they still accept you even after you lied to them, but there's no guarantee, is there?
But having rarely ever felt truly accepted by people, it's the closest thing you'll get, right?
It may not be as easy of an Obsession to fail, but the anxiety over potentially failing is something that will linger in that empty space.

The results are in! Looks like the first antagonist the Phantom Thieves will run into with be...
Johnny 13 and Shadow!
Thank you again to everyone who casted their vote! And if your vote didn't win, no worries. I'll still be posting something about each of these guys, and potentially more.
In the meantime, look forward to a a little chase.
DPxP5 - Villain time?
So I have Many Thoughts regarding this little crossover, specifically with the antagonists from Danny Phantom messing with or running into the Phantom Thieves.
However, I am an indecisive bitch. And all of my ideas for these little confrontations could be at least two parts long. So, I leave the decision to you, dear readers!
Obviously this is not an exhaustive list, just the ones that have come to mind so far (and that I have notes on).
Whoever wins the poll, I’ll start posting about first, although I will probably post about all of them eventually (And I’ll be checking comments/reblogs for other ideas too!).
I also just wanna say thank you again to everyone who has started following me because of this little series. It means a lot to me knowing others enjoy my cringe little brainchild of a crossover. I hope to do all of these characters justice! Stay tuned!

DPxP5 - Incorrect Quotes
To fight the urge to check the poll results early. Enjoy!
Danny: Listen, in the wild wild west there's always a woman in the saloon and nobody messes with her even though they all have guns. Ren: That's because she's a prostitute.
Ren: It doesn't have a bone. Danny: Then why is it called a boner?
Ren: Kinda gay to make a wanted poster... Why do you want that man? So you can hold him? Danny: Yeah. Hold him accountable. Ren: Hold him accountable for... stealing your heart? ;)
Futaba: Is letting someone win at chess sapiosexual bottoming? Jazz: Can everyone in this godforsaken group please learn the skill called "Think Before You Speak"? Ren: Ya know… it might be.
Futaba: You know what I’ve realized? Jazz: Some thoughts are better left unsaid? Futaba: Nice try, anyways-
Ann: Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey! Sam, still in bed: I'm vegan. Ryuji: Wakey Wakey Vegetables and Sadness.
Store Worker: Can a Sam Manson come to the front desk, please? Sam, arriving at the front desk: Hello, is there a problem? Store Worker, pointing to Ann and Ryuji: I believe they belong to you? Ann and Ryuji: We got lost :( Sam: I didn't even bring you guys with me-
Ann: I'm gonna eat the chicken breasts! Ryuji, snickering: Yeah, eat what you lack. Sam, deadpanning at Ryuji: Then maybe I should order brains on delivery for you.
Ryuji: It smells like henway in here. Sam: Ann: Sam. Ann, forcefully: Doesn't it smell like henway in here? Sam: sigh What's a henway-? Ryuji: ABOUT TEN POUNDS!
Sam: I hope you have an explanation for this. Ann: We have three, actually! Ryuji: Pick your favorite.

No bc I’m loving this skbfie
I think Vlad is more the type to have a Palace or Jail tbh, just from how corrupt as a person he is. Nobody tell him about Maddice. Tho maybe a redeemed Vlad could awaken P4 style.
But I have had the thought of Danny and friends potentially awakening to Personas of their own! I have no specifics rn but P4 Shadow Danny dragging actual Danny into the Metaverse is an idea that’s swimming around in my head. Not sure if I’ll make him a Wild Card... Tho the idea of him getting dragged into the Velvet Room is funny-
How I have it now, Personas are all powerful spirits in their own rights, so they do give off some ectoplasmic energy. Not enough to mistake their human users for ghosts usually, but Metaverse creatures like Morgana or even Teddy might set smth off. For Wild Cards, the more Personas they have, the more energy they give off. Ren may not have set off Danny’s ghost sense yet, but then again, Arsene hasn’t made an appearance yet either. And his ghost sense does have a hard time picking up on less obvious energies (like other Halfas).
Because of that, they can use ectoplasm in places it’s available. So with Amity Park specifically being such a supernatural hotspot, it would likely mean that, while Personas may not be at full capacity like in the Metaverse, they can still fight a ghost and do some damage to them. A Persona user is not gonna wipe the floor with them, especially if they don’t know what they’re doing, but it’ll do a whole lot more than just being a normal human trying to punch a ghost. Especially if said Persona specializes in elemental magic. Including Bless and Curse. You won’t be getting an insta-kill, but it can royally mess them up.
Personas themselves aren’t the gods or heroes or demons they are named after, they’re interpretations of them (with very few exceptions). Death-associated figures may have more of a fear factor that may up the ante, but I don’t think it’d be that drastic, yknow?
I don't have plans to write my own crossover so I shall share this headcanon of mine to you. If you want to use it, feel free. If not, it's still okay. Anyway: I believe that Persona users cannot be possessed by a ghost. This is because their Personas are protecting consciousness. They can try but this would lead to the ghost being rejected and the Persona being furious for trying to steal their "self". It would be lucky if the ghost did not try this with a fully awakened user or, worst, a wild card.
Funnily enough, I've been thinking about this a lot!
Personas are literal spirits of willpower and, particularly in the case of the PTs, rebellion. So something else trying to supersede their will and control their body in such an invasive way? Yea, at best that ghost is getting thrown out like last weeks trash. At worst, they're getting that Persona's most powerful attack point-blank to the face. Which would almost definitely shred weaker ghosts.
And Ancients help you if you try that shit with a Wild Card like Ren - then you got that anywhere from 2 to 12 times worse! Talk about learning the hard way.
One small tweak that I'll be going with for my stuff; Persona users can be possessed, but not easily. And my thought process is it can happen one of three ways.
The first way is if the ghost's own will surpasses that of the Persona user's. Basically just try and push through and fight their way past the Persona to get in control. Not an easy thing to accomplish by any means - especially in the middle of a fight where the Persona is active. This method is also essentially impossible to pull on Wild Cards since the ghost would need to get past all of their Personas. And as stated before, they can have anywhere from 2 to 12 of those mfs. So unless the ghost is desperate or dumb or both, it's not a feasible option.
The second is to find a way to disable or null the Persona - like a spell or piece of technology. Which is hard to come by to say the least. Although, a good way to severely weaken a Persona is to shake the user's resolve - their reason to fight. Make them doubt themselves, their mission, their vows... and then take over from there. Only two ghosts come to mind who would be able to do such a thing (magically at least); Spectra and Desiree. Of course, given enough time and money, the technology to trap and/or disable a Persona could be made, but as of now nobody in Amity Park has something like that.
The final way is a lot more simple; get the Persona user's (and/or their Personas') consent. Obviously this is not happening in the middle of a fight - this is only really applicable if a Persona user and ghost are working together. For example, if there's a situation where a Persona user is unconscious and a friendly ghost wants to get them back to safety without getting shot down by a ghost hunter, they could attempt to posses their friend and negotiate with the Persona/s. With the understanding that, should the ghost step too far out of line, the Persona/s will retaliate accordingly.
Oh, and for added fun, Persona users would be aware of all attempts made to possess them - both successful and failed. So should, say, the local ghost hero try possessing his vigilante friend out of curiosity? Let's just say, it wouldn't go well for him.

Ooo, an interesting point! If a ghost was able to awaken to a Persona in life, then that would certainly make it easier for them to posses alive Persona users, as they themselves have (or had) the willpower necessary. As opposed to a non-user’s ghost who would very easily just get kicked out and have to resort to something else to possess an alive Persona user.
Although I think it would still depend on how in touch with humanity the ghost is for how powerful they would be against a Persona user. Like if they’re still mostly humanoid and have memories of their life, they would be able to more easily tap into that power yknow?
If they were a Wild Card, that opens up a whole other can of worms I think. Like for one, what would the ghost of a Wild Card even look like ghost powers wise? Would it essentially be like fusing the Personas with the user?
Maybe something to explore if I ever take Akechi out of Schrodinger's box…

DPxP5 - Skin-Deep Beauty
Ann has always been hyperaware of how people look at her.
Disapproving looks from teachers and peers. Smirks and ogles from boys. Jealous glares from girls. Stares from Kamoshida. Curiosity from Ren. Worry from Ryuji. Admiration from Yusuke.
She wasn’t naive enough to think that Amity Park would be much different. So walking through the halls that first week, she doesn't pay them much mind.
The nerdy crowd in awe. The jocks scouting their new ‘prey’. Double-takes from just about every underclassman at the school.
Most of it is due to her odd company - turns out the son of a family of ghost hunters, a hardcore eco-goth, and a self-proclaimed lady’s man/tech geek have a bit of a reputation. All outcasts in one way or another. Something that she and the others from Shujin easily connect with. They decide to stick together as a band of seven by the end of that first day. And eventually, eyes fall off of them.
Only one crowd was unfazed by her company - or rather, incensed by it. The popular girls - or the 'A-listers' as Sam liked to call them, with all the sarcasm and derogation she can muster.
From what she's said, they’ve barely calmed down since freshman year. Cheerleaders, dating the bullying jocks, obsessed with their looks and new trends, catty and shallow bullies in their own right… They're walking stereotypes, honestly.
And Ann can feel the insecurity in every glare. It’s almost comical.
Still, she barely gives them a passing glance. And advises Sam to do the same. After all, she's dealt with worse.
A comment that gets a look of curiosity and concern to her host sister's face, but she doesn't press the issue.
Eventually, Ann is caught by herself at her locker before lunch one day. And approached by the little clique.
“Heeyy~! Ann, right?” The head of the group of girls - Paulina - calls over, her tone sickly sweet. "You should totally sit with us at lunch today!"
Ann gives the girls a polite smile. “Sorry, I promised to sit with my friends today. Maybe tomorrow-?”
“You’re joking, right?” That blunt interruption makes Ann pause, her polite smile dropping a bit. “Those losers are your ‘friends’? Come on, you’re way too good for them.”
Ann’s expression twists a bit. “Excuse me?”
Paulina chuckles a bit. “No, I get it! New school, new people, new country - you don’t know how things work here! So let me tell you; you’re settling for the bottom-feeders. I mean, what can they give you that we can’t?
That gets her to scowl, a spark of anger in her eyes as she turns toward the girls. “For one, actual friendship. I’ve known most of that group for years, while I’ve known you for five minutes. And already you’re putting them down to try and make yourself look better?”
Paulina actually looks shocked by that response, blinking for a moment before she matches that scowl on Ann’s face. “I’m doing you a favor, newbie!”
Ann scoffs, fighting the urge for her eyes to roll back into her skull. “Yeah, right. I’m not interested. Not today; not ever.”
The girls scoff right back, offended. Like she should care. The blonde in the group - Star? - she growls something about her ‘regretting that’ before the group finally walks off in a huff.
Ann sighs, mumbling to herself in Japanese as she finishes up at her locker. Just venting remaining frustrations to herself. Once she finishes at her locker and bumps into Sam on the way to the cafeteria, there’s a smile back on her face, eager to chat up her host sister to forget that little encounter.
Sam doesn’t tell her that she heard the whole thing from down the hall. But she certainly smiles wider as Ann walks with her to lunch.
(And as promised! @galaxy-turtle-genesys )

Hello! I love your P5xDP story ❤️ It's quite rare to see a crossover that is happening post-P5 so I immediately latched into your posts. If it won't be a bother, can you please tag me on the next part? I really want to see how it progresses :3
Hi!! I'm so happy to see you and many others have been enjoying my story!
I'll happily tag you in the next part, tho I also wanna mention for anyone else invested that every part is tagged with #when phantoms meet! I might be making a masterpost as well, since I have like... 10 more drafts of future parts, just for convenience.
Persona 5 has been a long-time hyperfixation of mine (literally since the game came out), and Danny Phantom was one of my favorite shows growing up. I had the thought of a crossover with the two when I was in high school. I would just write little bits and pieces of it in my notes app. Never posted them tho since I didn't know just how active the DP fandom was online until fairly recent.
I revisited it after I finished Persona 5 Strikers (for the second time lol) and it's just kinda evolved from there! I always found secret identities fun to play with, and mixing that with the chaos of the Phantom Thieves and the supernatural stuff in Amity Park has clearly been interesting to you guys as well!
But anyways; I have more drafts in the works! Feel free to follow the tag and I'll keep updating!

DPxP5 - Bullies
None of the Phantom Thieves tolerate bullies. They've all dealt with them in one way or another - mostly social bullying and isolation, but that doesn't mean they won't go to bat in a fight. For eachother, of course, but even for those they're less familiar with.
Ren especially. 'Forsake thyself for thine own justice' after all. A vow that Arsene doesn't dare let him forget.
So when he catches Dash cornering Danny by the lockers one afternoon? He sees red.
It takes every fiber of his better judgment to not punch Dash in the face, instead getting his attention and shoving himself between the boys.
Danny had barely even heard his host brother raise his voice. So him shouting over at Dash and giving him a glare like daggers? Start giving the athlete a lecture just as sharp and to the point to leave Danny alone? It takes him by surprise. Enough that he doesn't register that there's a sheen of red to his eyes until Dash is already walking off in a huff.
And just as soon as Danny notices it, it fades, Ren's expression softening as he looks back to his host brother.
"You alright?"
"Y-yea, yea. I'm fine." He stammers out, mind still reeling a bit. He has so many questions, but a strong feeling none of them will be answered. "You.. didn't have to do that. Dash is just... like that."
Ren gives him a bit of a smirk, a mischievous little gleam in his eyes. "All the more reason in my opinion. People like that need to get knocked down a peg or two."
Danny lets out a small huff of a laugh. He can't say he disagrees...
Ren's smile softens as he gestures for Danny to follow him. "Come on, let's go before the girls start getting worried."
Danny nods quickly and follows after Ren. The last thing they need is Jazz mother-henning them over nothing after all. And he doesn't want to cause Futaba any more anxiety either.
Still, as they walk, his eyes constantly dart back over the taller boy. How he acted… it was too familiar and too foreign all at once.
…
Maybe Jazz and Tucker are right. He's overthinking this, there's no way.
...Right?

DPxP5 - Hero vs. Vigilante (Part 2)
Danny's nightly patrol got interesting real fast.
A whole lot of trivial stuff - small ghosts just causing a fuss that he dealt with quickly and early in the night. So when he catches a dark figure bouncing from rooftop to rooftop, it piques his curiosity. And a bit of concern.
So he flies closer, making sure to stay under the guise of invisibility as he does so.
He takes in the boy's odd outfit first; a split trench coat, stark red gloves, a domino mask on his face... he looks like a master thief on the way to steal something.
No ghost sense though. Must be human, but the way he was moving was far too smooth to be normal.
And how his dark hair curls is.. vaguely familiar...
He decided to follow the masked boy, in part to satisfy his curiosity and in part to be sure the new arrival isn’t a threat, or here to actually steal something.
He sees the boy's acrobatic flips and swings through the city with nothing but a grappling hook tucked up his sleeve. He sees his stops becoming more frequent as he pauses for breath... and to glance around.
Not a problem, Danny thinks. He's still invisible. Unless he has thermal vision or something crazy, he's just fine where he is.
... He curses himself for thinking that when he sees the boy's eyes shift from dark to red. Even more when they lock with his. And he draws a weapon from his side.
Instinctively, Danny holds up his hands in surrender. "Wha- hang on-!"
The masked boy narrows his eyes as he quickly pulls the pistol around, pointed right at the ghost boy.
Danny reacts quickly, a beam of cold energy firing from his hand to encase the firearm in ice before it can used. This only briefly stuns the thief as he reaches for a more close-range weapon quickly after, but Danny freezes his feet in place. The blade in his hand is of little use if he can't get close enough for a strike.
The boy struggles a bit against the ice, but it doesn't let him budge.
Danny lets out a quick sigh of relief as he makes himself visible again. "Ok- can we relax a bit here? I just wanna talk."
The masked boy immediately looks back up, his eyes still sharp. "Relax? You're the one who was following me for the past five blocks!"
Danny narrows his eyes at that, crossing his arms. "This coming from the guy wearing a mask. Who even are you?"
"I could ask you the same thing, spandex."
Danny's expression falters for a moment at that blunt snark, sputtering for a moment in search of a response before he continues his glare. Even as a small smirk tugs at the other boy's lips.
An unstoppable force meeting an immovable object... both stubborn in their own rights. Two things were made clear to the ghost boy; this guy is human, and he's not going to cooperate like this.
He sighs, some of the tension in him easing up. "Let's.. start over."
He carefully floats closer, holding his hands up again to try and show he isn’t here to fight. "I'm Phantom. I take care of most of the ghost problems here in Amity Park. And you...?"
The thief pauses at that, silently debating if he should respond at all...
"Joker." He finally answers. "I'm just visiting. Not here to cause trouble."
Danny smiles a bit at finally having something to call the boy, trying to brush off the attitude in that answer for the time. "Alright. Joker.”
He looks the boy over again before firing a small beam of energy to break the ice at his feet, allowing Joker to move. A little more quiet shock goes to his face as he shakes off the shards.
“I’ll take your word for it.” Danny continues. “But if you go back on that, it’ll be a different conversation.”
Joker looks back up at Danny, sheathing his dagger with a smirk. “You'd have to catch me first.”
Danny matches that smirk. “You really think that’ll be a problem?”
There’s a mischievous glint in his eyes with that response. “We’ll see, ‘hero’.”
With that, Joker takes a step off of the roof and continues his swinging around the city. Danny almost follows after him again, more out of a competitiveness than anything.
But something else tells him this won’t be the last encounter with Joker. Whether that’s a good thing or not… he’ll just have to see.

DPxP5 - Hero vs. Vigilante (Part 1)
The fact that Amity Park was actually haunted wasn't much of a surprise for Ren.
Spirits and ghosts weren't anything too out-there in terms of his experiences as a Phantom Thief - sure, they were relegated to the Metaverse, but it'd makes sense more 'believable' things like this would bleed over into reality. He's also literally shot a god in the face, this might as well happen tbh.
What was a surprise was how present his Personas felt here.
And it wasn't just him. Futaba mentioned their first night how she could feel the energy from the Ghost Zone portal before they even entered the Fenton house. Almost like Necronomicon was giving her a heads up to danger - like it would for a Shadow.
Morgana can't help but bring up the 'odd smell' on Danny as well. It's not a Shadow, but it's something similar to that portal. The ectoplasm maybe? But Danny doesn't seem all that interested in his parents' work like that... Certainly not enough to constantly smell like ectoplasm...
Regardless, there's a reckless and eager part of Ren that wants to test the limits of this spiritual runoff and how it effects their Personas. And if even half of the stories of ghost attacks are true, it'd be good to have some way to fight back.
At least, that's his way to justify going out on a late-night 'patrol' of Amity Park as Joker to Morgana. (The relief when he found that Personas working here meant the costume change did as well omg)
It's no Shibuya, but there's still plenty to run along and latch onto with his grappling hook. Enough to get momentum and swing between rooftops and streetlights, pausing only for brief moments to catch his breath, a wide shit-eating grin on his face.
No world-ending threat, no horrible abuser he has to take down. Just a teenager parkouring his way through a city. He can finally enjoy this power a bit.
Until he starts to feel eyes on him.
The streets are quiet and empty, and most windows are dark. It's not impossible that someone saw him briefly of course, but this wasn't just a brief glance.
No, he's being actively watched.
He continues he's little run around the city, seeing if that will shake this mystery observer off, but no luck there. He takes periodic glances around him when he catches his breath. Nothing.
Fed up, he decides to test something.
A red sheen goes to his eyes as he takes one more glance around him, now using Third Eye.
Seeing what otherwise can't be noticed by the naked eye. Usually for things like security cameras and traps.
After a whole lot of nothing, Ren turns and meets a pair of bright green eyes belonging to a figure floating mere feet away from him.
Both of their eyes widen in surprise.
But Ren is quicker to draw a weapon.

DPxP5 - First Day with Everyone
Even with the new kids, the trio of local Amity Park weirdos still try and stick to a routine. Besides, the way Danny and Sam figure, they might as well introduce their host siblings to their little group now rather than later.
And it also gives Danny an opportunity to bring up his suspicions.
Well, until he realizes very quickly that the four exchange students know eachother very well as friends and that Sam has actually softened a bit around the blonds that have been shoved into her general vicinity.
That, and Tucker tries to hit on Ann not even a minute into talking with her. He almost laughs at just how done with it Sam and Ryuji look. He swears the only reason Tucker didn't get punched is because of the bell ringing shortly after. And Danny dragging his simping ass away from the poor blonde. He does catch Ren teasing Ann about 'breaking another heart' as he walks away though.
After Tucker stops gushing over how gorgeous Ann is for five minutes, Danny finally gets a word in about the weirdness of his own host siblings. Tucker does agree that it is incredibly suspicious and weird, but…
“Any ghost sense?”
Danny pauses, thinking for a moment before shaking his head. “No, actually. Nothing...”
“Then what are you worrying about dude? They’re not ghosts or possessed by ghosts, and even Sam warmed up. Give them a chance.”
A repeat of Jazz’s own response to his concerns… He doesn’t feel any more at ease from his best friend saying it either.
Tucker knows his best friend well enough to know this is going to keep bugging him. At least until they get an answer he’s satisfied with.
“What if they sit with us at lunch today?” He suggests. “We can all talk with them and see their own brand of weirdness from living in Japan.”
Danny thinks for a moment before he nods a bit. None of them seemed the least bit put off by the trio’s ‘reputation’ - if anything, they welcomed it. And his own host siblings had mentioned stuff about yokai before, might be good to see if the other two can match those stories.
“Yea, that’ll work.” Then a thought enters his head as he looks back to his friend with a bit of suspicion.
“And you won’t just try and flirt with Ann the whole time?”
“Now I never said that.” Tucker says with a small smirk.
Danny shakes his head. “You’re hopeless. And an idiot.”
“No, I’d be an idiot if I let a cutie like her pass me by!”

DPxP5 - The Mansons' Host Kids
The foreign exchange program was a surprise, but not entirely unwelcome for Sam. Until her parents dropped the bombshell that they will be hosting two of the kids. For fuck's sake, one of them is literally a model despite being her age - blonde hair, blue eyes, thin and pretty, magazine covers and interviews- God the more she looks at her picture the more she looks like Star.
Her new host brother doesn't look all that better - a jock posing as a punk with that bleach-blond hair.
She hates it.
And she hates it even more when they actually show up and act all sunshine and smiles, especially the girl, Ann. It's just a reminder of the conventional 'family' Sam's parents wished they got to enjoy.
She doesn't even notice the piercings on Ryuji, Ann's variety in her bags, or how the two cringe and shrink in at how painfully cheerful her parents are to have them as 'part of their family'. She just gives them the cold shoulder. All of them. And rants to Danny about her frustrations when Tucker starts begging for Ann's number.
That resentment bubbles over one night when Ann stays with Sam to help clean after dinner. Especially as Ann tries to ask about her fashion to fill the very purposeful silence.
"You can drop the act, yknow." Sam cuts her off, annoyed.
A tone that seems to genuinely confuse the blonde. "Sorry?"
"The whole smiles and rainbows and tolerant shtick. I can smell the bullshit from here. Your poser friend doesn't help matters."
Ann's eyes widen a bit at her bluntness before she settles. "I'm not bullshitting you. And I don't think Ryuji would count as a 'poser'-"
"Please, he's got 'jock' written all over him. Like he's just trying to be 'cool'. It's not gonna work. Not on me."
Ann can't help but give a huff of a laugh. "And here I thought those cliques were just for crappy American movies-" She stops her tease when she sees Sam's glare her way.
"He hasn't run in over a year. Not competitively. And he dyed his hair our first year of high school. Mostly so I wouldn't be the only blonde in class."
That gets Sam's attention, softening her annoyance a bit. Come to think of it... It is odd that a Japanese girl would have flaxen blonde hair...
"I ask about your fashion because I'm genuinely interested. It looks good on you! And I know Japan has different fashion subcultures than here, so I don't want to be insensitive or compare it to something it's not, yknow?"
"Seriously?" Sam asks with almost a laugh in her voice.
"Seriously!" The blonde's smile brightens. "I didn't come here to poke fun at Americans. Well- not too much anyway." She quickly and jokingly corrects herself. A joke that actually gets Sam to chuckle a bit.
"We deserve most of it, honestly."
"Heeyyy, don't lump yourself in with that!"
The two girls finish the dishes quickly, but still linger in the kitchen for a long while, chatting and swapping stories and fashion tips. Turns out Danny’s host siblings are friends with Ann and Ryuji.
Maybe this whole thing won’t be so bad.

DPxP5 - The Fenton's Host Siblings
So Casper High hosts a foreign exchange student program with some school in Tokyo during the everlasting trio's junior year. Honestly Danny couldn't care less, just means more people exposed to the weirdness that is Amity Park. There are three reasons he even tangentially cares:
1. Tucker is a weeb and is far too eager to ask the Japanese kids about tech stuff, especially since google-translated articles can only do so much.
2. Sam has been complaining non-stop about the kids her parents have decided to host for the program, and how they're practically carbon copies of her mom. (Something Tucker isn't complaining about)
3. His own parents got the idea to host a couple of kids for the program as well.
So he gets host-siblings for a few months. A boy around his age named Ren, and a girl a year younger named Futaba. Oh, and Ren's 'emotional support' cat Morgana. Lovely.
When the two arrive, they seem normal enough. Quiet and polite, Ren doing most of the talking. Once Jack mentions the lab downstairs tho, Futaba's face lights up. She immediately asks about it and to be shown around. Danny and Jazz share a look of 'oh no' before their parents go about showing their host siblings the ghost lab.
Surprisingly, Futaba is incredibly interested - citing that her late mother was a researcher for something similarly supernatural. Ren is... Incredibly quiet. Staring at the portal when he's not being addressed. Almost like it's familiar to him.
But why would it be? Natural ghost portals are incredibly few and far between. Unless...
What's even wierder is how he isn't all that phased about the reality of ghosts and spirits. He says it's because of stories he heard growing up in a small town - yokai are a whole other beast - but Danny doesn't quite buy it.
So he gets suspicious of his new host brother. Asking Jazz about it isn't much help. She just calls him paranoid, tells him to give them a chance - that it's their first day here, there's plenty of 'haunted' or 'cursed' places in Japan. He sighs and aceepts the answer. Reluctantly.
But then the damn cat keeps giving him a wide berth. Ren explains that Morgana (or Mona-chan as Danny hears from Futaba) isn't too fond of a lot of guys, but he'll warm up. It makes sense - and unknowingly gives a bit of gender euphoria for Danny - but doesn't fully ease him. He's a acutely aware of how animals react to his 'ghostly presence', even in human form. And it's odd - almost like the little furball understands Ren and Futaba when they speak to him. Not just in a 'he can pick out hos favorite and least favorite words' way a lot of animals have. But actually responds to more neutral 'commands' from the two.
It kinda freaks him out. And only adds to his suspicions.
The only reason he doesn't immediately go ghost and interrogate them is bc they're under the same roof. Maybe once school starts...
