Wasn't that optimisticduelists dude the guy who kept talking about gnostism being a big part of homestuck? Willing to bet money the guy never even read the gospel of mary. It's a damn good thing these kids know a surface level grasp of spiritual concepts or esoteric literature. (Hussie had no grasp of these concepts either) I don't think I could fucking endure any homestuck stan saying that "June" represents Sophia because she is Jesus's female counterpart and John *always* represented Jesus. I can imagine the discourse now. "June is totally like Dirk's mother and Dirk is Yaldabloth so June is Sophia and was always supposed to be." Hussie being Yaldabloth is the only take I'm going to accept here. Pissed off angry god of flesh creating all of physical existence to imprison souls in a world of pain and torment. That sounds like the author of the story.
Yeah, they had made lots of posts and videos about Gnosticism playing a major role for Homestuck. Not be surprised they only know surface level because they aren't religious or not a fan of religion as a whole. Can sort of understand, but hey, my family is under Jehovah Witness. I am more willing to take in anything from Christianity or Catholic compared to JW propaganda. >"June is totally like Dirk's mother and Dirk is Yaldabloth so June is Sophia and was always supposed to be." When did this became like the reverse Baby Is You situation? Part of me actually wants that now for how fucking ridiculous it is. Hussie being Yaldabloth makes too much sense.

Yesterday was my birthday, and I spent half the day cooking a feast for my family. I wanted to get in some symbolism but 1) can't do anything too esoteric because my mother is a Jehovah's Witness and they're weird about some things, and 2) my brother is allergic to shellfish so shrimp and lobster had to be limited.
I made beef japchae as a symbol for international understanding and new experiences (it's a new recipe and we don't eat much Korean), chicken and snowpea stirfry and egg fried rice for the green and gold of money, and braised mushrooms and bokchoy because it looked good. Buuuuut... I wanted to get shrimp in there to symbolize the year of the dragon (the grocery store didn't have any good looking lobster). The original plan was to do a quick stir fry and set up a separate dish of some snowpeas with shrimp last so all the other food was not contaminated, but I was super sick of cooking about halfway through and my mother keeps so much crap on the counters that setting up separate plates was impossible. So I was like, 'I'll just warm the shrimp in the mushroom braising liquid after I take them out,' forgetting that the mushroom braising liquid is used as the sauce for that dish.
So my family loved the japchae and stirfry, but the braised vegetables was a miss. And I exhausted myself.
This morning I pulled a muscle in my leg so I am going to get a sandwich and feel sorry for myself, and continue what I did the other half of the day yesterday- watch Nirvana in Fire.

I think people try to find Joe in loml, because it feels wild to be discussing and talking marriage and kids so suddenly with Matty. Also the fact that Joe was the one she was years with, so her writing a song calling Matty the loss of her life feels really nonsense. Like wdym this guy who you spent years calling the best boyfriend and your soulmate is not the lost of your life?
In that song she's also all I never felt anything like this thing with you etc and saying that, again, when you were with someone for years just before that is wild
but it wasn’t so suddenly? They did have a previous romantic relationship (which, yes, wasn’t extremely serious but still happened) and they were friends from like 2021 onwards and grew closer and closer. Part of the appeal of Matty was that they’d do things Joe was reluctant to commit to shit on Taylor’s timeline. Like that song is straight up just about Matty, again with details - from “rekindling” things, to his suit and tie (the Jehovah’s Witness suit elsewhere), the cinephile in black and white (again, as much as Widows love to make Joe into really arb stuff idk that I’d disparagingly call him a cinephile in black and white because he watches normal stuff that educated white men tend to enjoy watching even when they’re not actors as he is whereas Matty is very into esoteric crap and also uses a lot of black and white aesthetics and VERY obscure film clips in his shows), “it was momentary / it was unnecessary” clearly speaks to it being Matty, Mr Steal Your Girl (like if you stretch it then I guess since she cheated with Joe back in 2016 he did that too but it’s a weird description of him especially since it didn’t - according to her lyrics - seem like he pursued her that hard when she was taken so idk that he was trying to be Mr Steal Your Girl), and the whole “are they secondhand embarrassed that I can’t get out of bed” again speaks to something being “silly” which I think Tatty 2.0 was in a way. loml is just a straight up Matty song and she… thought he’s the loss of her life 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

Spirituality has been the central fixation of my human experience.
I started out in the Black Apostolic Pentecostal church.
In college, I had transformative experiences studying and learning among people who practiced or took strong interest in Jewish Mysticism and Christian Gnosticism, the Hebraic roots of Christianity (including Black Hebrew Israelites, Messianic Jews, and Sacred Name believers), a very helpful and insightful Jehovah’s Witness, Nuwabians, and many others.
I gravitated to a more Hebrew culturally appropriated view of Christianity for a while and in my back pocket contemplated the more esoteric ideas of Gnosticism and other wisdom outlooks who utilized more allegory than literalism.
When I had my break from Christianity, I left in summary bc my studies poked too many holes in doctrinal and what I believed was historical information that was essential to my belief, that the fruit of the Spirit was in poor supply among my survey of saints and other Christians (that ended up being bigger a deal than the initial heartbreak of doctrinal fallacy), and the judgment of traditional and conservative Christian based morals seemed more harmful than any form of loving.
The day Jesus Christ was no longer my God in the way that I had grown up believing him to be was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I was on the phone with a friend who I would study at length with when the realization hit me. I fell to the floor and wailed in fetal position broken bc I knew nothing would be the same. This was probably somewhere in 2005. I held on and did mental gymnastics to stay a Christian. 2012, I had become pretty secular far as practice and by 2014/2015 I had pretty much de-converted.
I don’t know when it resonated, but the Sermon on the Mount and the giving of the Great Commandment sunk deeply into my heart. If anything is actually Christian about me for real, it is that I hold the Shema as the most important scripture and is the foundation upon which I attempt to live my life and the basis for any beliefs that I have evolved spiritually.
Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD; and you shall love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy strength.
And ye shall love thy neighbor as thyself.
I prefer to translate it: Hear O Israel, YHWH is our God, YHWH alone! You shall love YHWH your God with all of your heart, all of your soul, and all of your strength.
And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
And I love the KJV translation of the last part of the Great Commandment when Yeshua Messiah / Jesus Christ says:
“On this hang ye the whole law.”
That was what struck me.
By this time, I’m DEEP in my bible bag. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (aka The Book of Names/Shemot) is the most important commandment in Judaism. I equate Deut. 6:4-5 to be what St. John 3:16 is to most evangelicals and what Acts 2:38 meant to the Black Apostolics of my childhood.
Jesus/Yeshua was a Jew, a Jewish rabbi on top of that. Up until this point in my life, Jesus/Yeshua (and for a period of my journey Yahshua/Yahushua/Yahoshua) was not only a prophet or a religious leader, and even more than identifying him as the Messiah, the Lord and Savior, but the very God that so many of us believe we are connected to or working to connect to or have devoted our lives to his service. Jesus was it for me. Jesus was All for me.
By this time, my break with him being that level of divine had already occurred but that did not remove the magnitude of how important I thought he was to me. So when I finally departed the Christian faith, I kept love with me. The commandment of love was what made it worthwhile to me to what I considered literally risking my seat in heaven for a fiery hell grave…love.
If a commandment, a doctrine, a theology, a point of holy living contradicted love as I knew it, I would break it, forsake, and even become angry at it. Send me to hell if I cannot love.
The Jesus I came to know spent much of his time with people that society and the church continually look down upon and treat as less then. It taught me a lot about myself and my own self righteous attitude.
It lead me to do a full deconstruction of my faith.
That journey has been fascinating and significant. I have entered and traveled to many doors and portals.
I have encountered and experienced much that has shaped me.
So love was my concluding principle I keep from my experience as a Christian.
Some other tidbits I keep that are reflections of my evolution, especially utilizing gifts I obtained during my years of nerding out the bible:
God is a term translated from Semitic terms whose literal definitions are that of “power”, “might”, or “strength”.
Spirit is a term translated from Hebrew, Greek and Latin that all mean “breath” or “wind”.
Every spiritual person I admired, I admired for their Wisdom (Sophia) over their Power / Authority (God).
Every spiritual person I admired was warm, non-judgmental, down to earth, earthy, nature loving, nature living or at least nature leaning.
I concluded that spirituality should be about “breathing” for me. That Power is a resource not something or someone to covet and for me there are no messiahs, no prophets, no pastors, no gurus and no anointed ones. That “no” is a loose “no”, meaning generally speaking. Those who are “chosen” or “anointed” are less identified with the ego of stature and recognition and more by their witness, their impact, their fruit. These kinds of children of light are a lot more unassuming than loudly proclaimed either by themselves or their “following”. They often seem regular degular, blink and you’ll miss them sharing love and good will almost haphazardly along the way.
Thanks to a solid stint with my best bud I got to explore science, humanism, atheism and agnosticism at length. Coming out of Christianity (a very much literalist faith) and being kind of a literal person myself (aka I’m a dumb guy or more nicely put probably on the spectrum somewhere), I struggled to reconcile the things I could learn from evidence based research and experiments and this faith in something bigger and beyond the physical realm that gives me affinities for things that do not jive with science.
Having an atheist for a best friend, very thoughtful, knowledgeable, fun loving, good natured, empathetic atheist was a profound experience. We discussed everything at length and I tuned in to some of his favorite lectures and debates from leading white atheist speakers like Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris. These men might not be my cup of tea, but I took some real things from them that I am happy to keep.
Mainly, a term “Intellectual Honesty” or the ability to admit that one could be wrong or that at least there is yet no empirical evidence for whatever belief one may have. Growing up Christian, especially in a Black church based family, “intellectual honesty” is blasphemy, would probably get me an ass whooping (and has gotten me an ass whooping), and/or potentially kicked out of your family or community to be honest.
Niggas can’t question God or the bible for real.
Anyways, I never identified with atheism, but I do have some atheistic ideologies. I consider myself some form of a theist and held contradictory beliefs now for the last 10 years. Technically, I’m agnostic, but I prefer to identify with believing…probably bc I’m Black and that shit is law for majority of us and that same power of faith still resides in me despite my “intellectual honesties”.
In the last 5 years or so, I became fixated on my health (mostly mental health) as an extension of my spiritual angst and curiosities.
During my bible nerd days another literal definition of a Semitic term resonated with me: “shalom”. Shalom, we all know, means “peace”. “Salaam” is the same from Arabic. Well, while that is an accurate translation of the term, it has a more literal definition in Hebrew and is also translated as “whole”. As in a “whole” stone or a whole number or a whole note in music. The word “shalom” would be the Hebrew term used.
So now we are arriving to where I have come to currently…being whole.
In my bible nerd days, being “whole” meant being balanced and comprehensive. To expand the scope of my spiritual practice from simply worship, service and study, to how I engage my whole life, my whole needs, and my whole health.
It lead me to a healing journey that started in my darkest days during what I like to call “my cane and crutch era”, when the autoimmune conditions I manage were undiagnosed and running wild in my body.
I nearly unalived myself during that period…still working to not do that even now 😬
Anyways, when I was beginning that intense inner work I began to greet, toast and salute one of my friends who got down in that trench with me to help me pull myself out with “wholeness and wellness”. It was how I adopted shalom for myself.
It started in the body and in my practice. Then it moved to mental health, my own personal Normandy Beach Doomsday battle. How to help my heart and mind be whole.
I viewed all this as spiritual in nature.
I’m shortchanging the details now bc well I’m tired of writing but WHOLE is where I landed.
Whole or Shalom, also became All and One.
Throughout my journey, beginning with my dear old Gnostic friend, the Oneness of all things, the ALL that is God and the entirety of the universe began to seep into my psyche. How could we all be eternal? Even Christians sometimes teach that the human soul is eternal not only in the future but also from the past before we were conceived even.
A good friend of mine who too journeyed from my Black Apostolic past, illuminated the spiritual understanding of the Big Bang Theory. They simply introduced me to the notion that we are “stardust”. All those studies in Gnosticism, Mysticism, Eastern Thought, New Age thinking and other Wisdom traditions began firing off for me.
Long story short, I have landed comfortably with Omnism. Omni in Latin means “all” as in “omnipotent” means “all powerful”, “omniscient” means “all wise”, and omnipresence is literally “everywhere”.
We are All from One, through One, and to One.
In him we live, we move and we have our being.
The ALL from all of my esoteric and Black consciousness experiences.
Pantheism from Eastern beliefs.
Panentheism.
The Universe.
The Most High.
The Creator.
The One.
All of that began to resonate deeper and deeper over the years.
I am also a secular humanist. I am also still Christian. I am a child of god, of the light, of the day. I am from the beginning. I will be there at the end. I am eternal. I am being. I am becoming. I shall become what I shall become. I will be what I will be. I am who I am.
I am breathing (spirit). I am powerful (god). I am one with all things. I am the image and the likeness of god. I am!!!
Arm, leg, leg, arm, head (ALLAH).
Godbody.
Godhead.
Godly.
God.
G.
Greg.
Gregory.
Give.
ALL are a Path to One.
Ancient Christians did not call their path Christianity. They called it “The Way” or “The Path”.
For I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to the Father, but by me.
I and my Father are One!
I am in the Father and the Father is in me.
Both And/Or.
All.
I am an Omnist. Om 🧘🏿♂️. Shal(Om).
All.
One.
Whole.
God.
The Universe.
Spirit (Breath or Wind).
God is Peace. Power is Whole.
I am the son of the Star. Jesus is the light. He is the “light-bearer”. I am stardust. I am a spark of the eternal flame. I am forever and ever. The first and the last. The Alpha and the Omega. I am the One.
The Big Bang is the last piece. It is where I marry science and faith, reality and imagination.
For me, fantasy is necessary as is reality.
Reality without imagination is bleak. Fantasy without reality is delusion.
For me, faith, love, purpose, imagination, creativity, expression, discovery, magic, healing, art, fantasy, make believe, joy, innovation, the mind are all the same thing.
It is the hallmark and defining characteristic of what it means to BE as a human. It is what connects us, develops our empathy, gives such exceptional talent and ability to impact our environment.
It is the birthright of humanity. Harmony, connection, co-existence (not uniformity).
I accept and embrace it all.
For we are but the chaos and violent debris of a collapsing star, forever expanding into the abyss and one day we became aware of ourselves and sought to make our short time in this vast universe worth while.

Rating The Major Early Christian Heresies
(Note: I am leaving out gnosticism and Manicheanism. Gnosticism is a bucket term for too many different beliefs to summarize succinctly; I could do a whole post just rating different gnostic beliefs. And the Manicheans were not even really Christian. It was a totally separate religion that blended Christianity, gnosticism, mithraism, neo-Platonism, and even Buddhism. For the record, the gnostics and the Manicheans are both 10/5 fucking chad heroes of weird esoteric Christian-adjacent religious bullshit.
Note 2: "Where are the Cathars!" "Where are the Bogomils!" I said EARLY Christian heresies. I ain't here to talk about no johnny-come-latelies.)
Docetism: Jesus was a hologram. Because the world of matter is inherently corrupt, it is inconceivable that Christ ever had a physical form. His apparent """body""" was a phantom, or illusion. This inherently denies the death and resurrection, as there was no body to die or resurrect.
5/5 stars, this is the kind of wet and wild shit I like to see.
Montanism: Super into prophesizing, and they believed that anything revealed to them as a prophesy in the grips of religious ecstasy superceded the word of Christ himself.
3/5 stars: you're on extremely shaky theological ground here, but I like the potential for shenanigans, and I give them an extra half a star for letting women be bishops.
Adoptionism: Jesus was a normal guy, conceived in the regular way, who God adopted upon seeing that he lived a sinless life. They believed that Jesus only attained his divine status after his adoption.
4/5 stars, because imagine you're Jesus in this scenario. What a weird day that must have been.
Sabellianism: If you can't wrap your head around the Trinity at all, this is the heresy for you. Adherents of Sabellianism believed that there was no difference between the 'persons' of the Godhead: there is just the one God, who manifests himself at different times and for different purposes in different ways.
3/5 stars because it makes a lot more sense than the canonical interpretation, but it doesn't whip any ass, you know?
Arianism: This one holds that Christ was created by God, but is not the same as God. It demotes Jesus to being kind of like a lesser deity. This one has really stuck around, it's cropped up over and over again throughout the centuries. The Jehovah's Witnesses believe a version of Arianism.
4/5 stars just for being the last man standing.
Pelagianism: Pelagians rejected the doctrine of Original Sin and the belief in humanity's inherently sinful nature. Official Catholic doctrine holds that man is doomed to sin, and only by God's grace can he transcend his total depravity. But the Pelagians believed that you don't actually need God's grace or intervention (which includes, you know, Christ's entire existence and ministry) in order to do God's will and lead a good life: you can just...choose to be good.
5/5 stars, these sound like really nice people.
Donatism: So if I'm a bishop or whatever, and I administer a sacrament to you (baptism, making you a priest, etc), and then I am subsequently excommunicated, the Donatists believed that my excommunication rendered every sacrament I had ever administered null and void. I'm gonna be honest, I don't think this one holds water at all, and I bet these people were pretty insufferable. Basically what they're saying is that in order to serve the church you need to be absolutely pure and without sin: which no one is, except for, apparently, the Donatists themselves.
No stars.
Marcionism: The god of the old testament and the god of the new testament are two different gods. The god of the old testament they called the Demiurge, and should be understood to be the god of the Jews, who were still due a messiah; and the god of the new testament was the Supreme God, who sent Jesus Christ in order to reveal himself.
5/5 stars. This is Judeo-Christian polytheism and I'm fucking here for it. Plus, after Marcion was done editing everything out of the new testament scriptures that contradicted him, all he was left with were like 10 of Paul's letters and a highly edited version of the Gospel of Luke. The brass balls on this guy for saying that every other apostle could eat his shit gets this one a whole extra star.
Monophysitism: Christ was not human at all but fully divine. Docetism can be viewed as a kind of Monophysite heresy, but the Monophysites did believe that Christ was physically on Earth. They just didn't think he had a human nature and believed he was incapable of suffering.
2/5 stars because Christ's humanity is obviously what actually makes him interesting and his suffering is what makes his sacrifice meaningful. Doctrinally they're on pretty firm ground though, the early church easily could have broken their way. Emperor Justinian I wanted this to become orthodoxy, but he died before his plans could go into effect.
Apollinarianism: Jesus had a normal human body and a normal human soul, but he was fucking mind controlled to spread the word of God. He had no conscious mind of his own and was born into this world solely in order to serve as a meat-sleeve for the eternal Logos.
5/5 stars. What the fuck. What the fuck.

*sigh* Hi. Writer of the characters of The Tattered Veil here. Since people seem unable to understand nuanced situations on this hellsite and love to be ignorant about the shit they claim is ‘wrong’, I’m taking a moment here out of character to settle this bit of nonsense once and for all. As a note, most of my personal experience with Christianity is Catholic-based, though I’ve spent a fairly large chunk of my life by now dedicated to theology as a whole and especially the esoteric and occult from it. Moving on, here are several passages speaking directly against what you claim they preach, all of these being found in every Bible no matter what denomination.
Hebrews 11, in which multiple figures, none of which are nor were Christian, are granted access to Heaven.
Peter 4:6 and the Catholic Apostles Creed, in which during the three days Jesus was dead, the Harrowing of Hell took place, where ‘all the righteous who had died and been sent to Hell were given their place in heaven’.
There are undoubtedly more, but these are the three off of my head.
Pope Francis has been quoted multiple times publicly speaking that so long as you are a good person--not a good Christian, nor act in a Christian way--then one could go to Heaven, “even atheists”. Those are his quotations, not mine.
Christian apologism is making excuses for the imperialistic and colonialist/supremacist missionary spreading of Christianity that took place and takes place to this day across certain denominations (Jehovah’s, Mormon, a scattered few others). You will never see that from me.
At the end of the day, you have every right to be infuriated of the way Christianity as an empire has eradicated countless indigenous and global cultures in the name of their god. As Tachi Yokuts and Irish Traveller mixed race I am pretty solidly sure I of all people should probably know pretty handily how it works.
But you do not get to come to me and get angry and claim XYZ when that simply isn’t the case. Christianity--and Catholicism--have many faults, and have had many faults. And yes, for a long period of time it was considered that only Christians would enter the Kingdom of Heaven. But that hasn’t been the case in quite some time now for the vast majority of any respectable denomination--again, Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses can barely be called denominations of Christianity let alone ‘respectable’--and I don’t appreciate you spreading misinformation and claiming I’m somehow spreading “Christian apologism” by correcting you.
Be angry about plenty when it comes to Christianity. I created this entire fucking blog as a way to reconcile my love of Catholicism as a history and as a culture with the way that Catholicism has oppressed and traumatized me and my own histories, and to spread a form of idealized ‘love’ that Christianity preaches through the words of The Innkeeper.
Don’t you dare try and come to my face and act self-righteous when you refuse to educate yourself by virtue of your own personal biases and what you want to believe about this. What the fuck did you expect from a blog being written by the voice of the fucking archangel Gabriel? That I just wouldn’t understand and know the source material I’m writing from? Or that I wouldn’t defend false accusations in an attempt to spread actual fucking correct knowledge?
Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot. Not understanding the source material is how neopagans on tumblr came to exist to begin with. Whoops. My bad.
TLDR: Christian apologism is not when someone corrects your misinformed beliefs on what Christianity believes and preaches. Don’t try and preach to the choir, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Nowadays many anarchists, and other anti-capitalists too, seem to have gone shy. We hide and guard our ideas rather than spread them. We write and talk only for other sect members, about boring issues no one outside the 'scene' could care less about. Or we use esoteric language and jargon that no one outside the 'scene' can follow. We treat newcomers with suspicion, or interrogate them to gauge their political correctness before we let them in. Spreading anarchic desires doesn't mean we become politicians or Jehovah's witnesses. I'm not looking for voters, followers, clones, cannon fodder or cash cows. I'd like to make propaganda that stimulates people to question authority and make new projects and forms of life of their own. Some may think of themselves as anarchists, many others not. What I want are comrades: independent individuals who are fighting authority in their own ways.

Well what is this Tumblr about?
Religion, Occultism and Myths are my biggest hobbies and my passion. I try to read as much about those topics as possible. I'm thinking the best way to share my ideas and content is on this blog, it also helps me to manifest my thoughts.
I don't know other peoples with the same big interests as me so I'm hoping to find mindliked people on tumblr.
A few things about me:
I'm 1996, a girl and I live in Switzerland. Since I'm a child I always felt attached to myths and creepy things. I think it all started with my obsession for the stars and universe at a very young age.
My mother grew up as a Jehovah's Witnesses and for my own luck she decided to leave her religion in Colombia when she moved to Switzerland. My Dad is official reformed protestant, but I'm not really sure if he believes in something or doesn't.
My Nanny had two girls in the same age like me. They were my first best friends and I used to do everything with them. Every Saturday we went to something like a Scout Association but from a free church called Chischona. We played around in the forest and I learned a lot of things. Around 1 hour they talked about God, Jesus and the Bible. That's one of the reasons why I learned about Christianity so early.
As a child I didn't get the whole concept and it was just fun for me. But as i grew up i started to question a lot of things and decided I can't return to this place because of the idea about the bible and all the things connected with it didn't go right with me.
When I turned around 13 i started to listen to metal and felt more in love with the "dark" side of things and began to read about esoteric. And well that's how it all started.

Cults swarming in the coronavirus era via /r/atheism
Cults swarming in the coronavirus era
Cults swarming in the coronavirus era
DPA - January 29, 2021
The man thinks that only when you believe deeply in it, you can fight the coronavirus with prayers and that the pandemic is a test and the will of God. And if he were to die anyway, this would be because of a divine wish, relates the member of a free religious movement to consultant Sandra Pohl. "He thought that if you believed in God enough, you didn't have to follow the pandemic restrictions," adds the director of the Zebra counseling center in Freiburg, Germany.
Zebra describes itself as a "counseling center for worldview questions. Pohl and her team advise those affected and bewildered relatives of members of new religious movements, which in 2020 were joined by conspiracy storytellers.
So-called "coronavirus deniers" dominated many of the conversations in the year of the coronavirus outbreak. People are not only threatened by the pandemic, Pohl says meanwhile. "There are couples who are on the verge of separation because there is a polarization taking place not only in society but also in relationships."
Movements such as Qanon, whose followers associate politicians, the rich, and Jews with incomprehensible atrocities, have seen a large number of interested parties join in. Pohl describes the movement as "a new form of religion."
The consultant notes that people working in the esoteric field also benefited during the pandemic because the desire for miraculous cures and healings multiplied.
Despite the decrease in the number of parishioners of the main established religions, the Zebra Center observed in 2020 a great demand for proposals that give meaning to life. "In times of crisis, the desire for stability and orientation is expressed with greater intensity," says Pohl.
The expert points out that some people long for a less complex reality, with a black-and-white view of the world. "Some of the new religious groupings represent exactly this black-and-white worldview," she says.
But are these religious movements being able to use this crisis to their advantage?
The controversial Scientology organization, which according to the German state of Baden-Württemberg's Office for the Protection of the Constitution seeks a totalitarian social system, had problems during the first year of the pandemic in recruiting new followers, officials there said.
The group distributed leaflets in restaurants with hygiene tips, promising to offer tools to cope with isolation, or disseminates videos that receive millions of clicks and offers online courses. "Through this offer of courses, Scientology aims to introduce its teachings to people who are in an exceptional psychological situation and win them as members," says a spokesman for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the internal intelligence service.
German authorities note that this organization is active in many regions and many detractors consider it a dangerous sect. However, experts consider its current influence to be small. "Scientology no longer plays an important role in Germany," says Martin Fritz of the Evangelical Central Office for Worldview Issues.
Fritz says he sees a tendency among some evangelicals and right-wing Catholics to express skepticism about the coronavirus on the Internet. And he also says he sees at demonstrations people with crucifixes around their necks or in their hands. "A couple of evangelicals and Pentecostal Christians have gone to demonstrations to capture the climate and uncertainty there and use the situation as a missionary opportunity," Fritz says.
Jennifer Neumann, an advisor at the Berlin sect information office, warns that some groups with an apocalyptic attitude are also among the enemies of the coronavirus restrictions.
The expert explains that they try to gain followers by "playing on people's fear". Neumann points out that for some people the current situation is so overwhelming that that is why they adhere to these problematic proposals, in search of relief.
In the case of Jehovah's Witnesses, he notes that although street activity has decreased, letters promising help in combating so-called pandemic fatigue are still arriving in some mailboxes. The cult information office is concerned about a Christian movement called Shincheonji of Korea, which it considers "one of the most problematic groups". On the Internet, members attracted young and committed people.
The grouping does not usually mission under its original name, but under the name of different front organizations. "Shincheonji is a very hoarding group. It is based on principles that are friend-foe, black and white, which we see as very conflicting," warns Neumann. In general, Pohl says, religious groups tend to respect the restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
She says that most try to avoid negative news about outbreaks of covid-19 infections after church services and "in no way want to attract negative attention".
In recent years, according to experts, everything has calmed down with regard to new religious movements, but Pohl highlights the growth of "patchwork" religions, which tend to assemble their world view on the basis of heterogeneous elements.
According to the consultant, faith is lived more individually and less and less in the framework of institutions. Neumann advises people with family members who have approached problematic groups or individuals to be attentive, talk to them and take them seriously. The conversations, the expert emphasizes, should be devoid of reproach or derision.
Pohl warns that there are groups or proposals that can have negative effects on people's lives. "For some, however, a group could have a positive influence because they experience a stabilization," she says.

Who do you say that I am?
In Matthew 16:15 Jesus the Christ asks his disciples an all-important question with eternal consequences, “But who do you say that I am?” It was the follow-up question in an exchange we read in Matthew 16:13-18: Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” In this short interaction, we see a striking difference between those who know something about Christ but don’t know Him personally, and those Who know Him intimately and knew well His asserted identity. History is replete with many false teachers who hold up Jesus Christ as an idea but reject His deity and the clear biblical teaching about Who He is. For example, in the Fourth century, a church presbyter from North Africa by the name of Arius began to teach that the Son of God Who incarnated as the Messiah, Jesus, was not the eternal God, but came into existence at a point in time. This was the heretical view that led to the Council of Nicea where this theological error was addressed. The Early Church fathers took very seriously their mandate to guard the flock from false teaching. A modern version which espouses this particular heresy is the group known as “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” who receive their instruction from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Like Arius, they believe the Jesus Christ was brought into being at a point in time. Their belief is that Jesus was initially Michael the Archangel whom the Father created and then used to create everything else. At the time the Christ (Messiah) would be born into the world, Michael’s life force (they describe a “life force” as something like spiritual electricity which carries no characteristics of personality) was unplugged, at which time Michael ceased to exist. Their unitarian god Jehovah then created a new being to replace Michael - a human named Jesus - and plugged Michael’s “life force” into him. When the human Jesus was crucified, his life force was “unplugged,” and as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society teaches, Jesus is now “dead forever dead.” (It’s interesting that they talk about and write of Him as if He was still around, but their teaching is that there is no Jesus today and never will be again!) Jehovah than created another Michael to replace the previous Michael and the human Jesus, and stuck that very same life-force into this new creature. It is all pretty complicated but provides a way to have a sort of Jesus without having to embrace the Jesus Christ of Scripture. Mormons also don’t like the Jesus Christ of history and Scripture and promote a new and improved version. For them, Jesus (and indeed all of us) were born on another planet to a Mormon God and one of his multitude of wives. Jesus came to earth when a human body was prepared for Him, which afforded him the opportunity to earn godhood as his father, and all other gods before him had done. So again, we have a Jesus who didn’t exist in eternity past. Once he came into being, he progressed and changed. By definition then, the Jesus of Mormonism is not immutable, i.e, unable to change, and therefore is not the God of Scripture. He isn’t Jesus the Christ. Neither of these examples are surprising. Most people, especially in Christian or formerly Christian cultures, have heard and believe that Jesus is an important religious figure. Therefore, nearly all false teachers feel the need to create a Jesus of one kind or another to enhance their credibility and persuade potential converts that they have a sort of Jesus Keeping Seal of Approval. Theirs is not the REAL Jesus, of course, but another Jesus who seems enough like Jesus to fool the uninformed masses. A newer player on the block is Franciscan Priest, Richard Rohr. He is a leader in the Contemplative Prayer Movement and is the primary mentor to those who have brought the Enneagram into the evangelical church. He is also the defacto chief resident theologian for Progressive and some evangelical churches. He too has a Jesus, but his “Jesus” is not THE Christ, but melded with “the Christ” about 2,000 years ago. The Christ, far more of a “material manifestation,” (the Cosmos is the Christ), than a “person” in Rohr’s view, came into being about 14.5 billion years ago. This concept is foundational to all of his teaching, but for just a glimpse into it, you could watch “Fr. Richard Rohr - Cosmic Christ.” Beginning about the 4 minute mark he says: To put it very concretely, the Christ is born the minute God decides to show Himself. The moment God decides to materialize. Now modern science would call that the Big Bang. The Big Bang is the birth of the Christ. 14.5 billion years ago. And this material manifestation has been revealing the glory of God, the nature of God, for at least 14.5 billion years. That’s the Cosmic Christ. So, in a moment of time, this Cosmic Christ is revealed to us in a human person that we could see and touch and hear and listen to and fall in love with. But in the first 2,000 years most of the work, except for the mystics, who largely got this, mainline Christianity Catholic and Protestant, has largely been concerned about Jesus the historical person. Which is good. But what we missed out on was the Cosmic Christ. Here we experienced a definitional variation which we should resolve before we move on. Different esoteric groups define “the Christ” a little differently. For Gnostics and New Agers, “the Christ” is a “consciousness,” something which settled on the human Jesus and can also settle on us. Rohr’s take is a bit different from typical New Age teaching on “the Christ.” A bit earlier in the video, Rohr does claim “the Christ” is eternal, but then, with a little sleight of hand he claims “the Christ” came into existence 14.5 billion years ago and is the creation itself. Rohr teaches that Creation was the first Incarnation of Christ. In his blog article, “Christ Since the Beginning,” Rohr writes: God spoke the Eternal Blueprint/Idea called Christ,“and so it was!” (Genesis 1:9). Two thousand years ago marks the Incarnation of God in Jesus, but before that there was the Incarnation through light, water, land, sun, moon, stars, plants, trees, fruit, birds, serpents, cattle, fish, and “every kind of wild beast” according to the Genesis creation story (1:3-25). This is the “Cosmic Christ” through which God has “let us know the mystery of God’s purpose, the hidden plan made from the beginning in Christ” (Ephesians 1:9-10). We repeat – The first Incarnation of “Christ” was Creation itself, according to Rohr. So, all Creation - including human beings - is in Christ and everyone and everything has “divine DNA,” as he informs his readers in his book, The Universal Christ. Since everyone is in Christ already, there is no need for salvation. What people need is to recognize their identity, to see themselves as the sinless beings they already are, which is Rohr claims is their “true self.” In Jewish and Christian understanding, the word Christ is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word, “Messiah” and both mean “anointed.” It isn’t a proclamation of who they are (like a name) but indicates they have been set aside for something. The REAL Jesus is the Son of God, Who incarnated or took on human nature. His “anointing” was to be the Savior of the world. Rohr and his followers have a decidedly different Jesus and different gospel. His teachings are wholly unbiblical. The Apostle Paul addressed this issue with the church in Corinth where at least some had also embraced a different Jesus and different gospel: But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough. (2 Corinthians 11:3-4) Our friend, former Jehovah’s Witness, Lorri MacGregor, who founded MacGregor Ministries (now retired) would often say, “If you have the right Jesus, you are right for all eternity. If you have the wrong Jesus, you are wrong for all eternity.” How would you answer Jesus’ question, “But who do you say that I am?” Your eternity hinges on your answer.Ω

The other said ‘I am the Devil.
’‘But you cannot be,’ said the first man, ‘for the devil is evil and ugly.’‘My friend,’ said Satan, ‘you have been listening to my critics.’

A Few Forgotten Facts in the Dicta of Truth
( John 4:44, Mark 6:4, Matthew 13:57 )For my own Father himself testified;
” No prophet is without honour, except in his own house, from his own family, and in his own country…”
Salman Rushdie as the Abdal of St. Francis; the Owl of Islam
There is little doubt of the breadth and scope of his work, which made a huge impact on seekers of Illumination everywhere, especially gratifying for him when his groundbreaking book, “The Sufis”, was published in 1964, and then exposed to an even larger audience when it came out in paperback in 1971.
It was to cause quite an international sensation in it’s claims and calm, clear, exposition of many unknown facts, an exposition that revealed to the world of much about Sufis and Sufism of what had only been guessed at or theorized about as mainly just plain unverified conjecture; by those attempting to explain contemporary Sufism in ordinary religious terms.
His prodigious work ethic, and his studiously written and eruditely exact and careful production of a steady stream of esoteric publications with his own Octagon Press brought to light a huge corpus of material, which he published at an unprecedented rate; all of a depth of expertise and universal scope on such a variety of subject-matters that it was, and still is, unequalled by anyone writing on Sufism to this day; all which he did without any fanfare, and proved all of his loud and ignorant critics wrong, by quietly showing in his actions on his ally; blank paper, that he was well prepared by his predecessors for his globally cosmic mission: that of reaching out to those already prepared, who took his gifts to begin their next steps on the Path.
Indeed, his ability to share and thus help those predestined to receive the real knowledge of the foundation for the Global Unification of all Religions is unsurpassed; the sad truth being that this achievement was about the same Foundation that Rev. Moon was supposed to then set up for Christianity, and which Rev. Moon was to have received from Shah personally, as the current exemplar of the Sufi Elect: which understanding was then completely ignored by the Korean messenger, along with the reality of Islam.
Strangely, even those who began as foes of Islam changed their minds about the followers of the Seal and Envoy of Moses in the 7-10 Crusades, as Christianity was in the position of Canaan and their 7-10 Native Nations and 10 Tribes, these Tribes and Nations which the 7 and 10 Crusades represented numerically: having Islam finally be recognized even by the Templar Knights themselves as having been given the Kingdom
The Templars in their personal relations with Muslims on and off the battlefield could see that these Muslims stood in the position of obviously having become the Second Israel, having been given the land of the Kingdom just as my Father had said.
It was this Reality of which the Crusaders tried to hold back, yet even after taking Jerusalem in the 1st Crusade they realized Islam as the 2nd Israel had replaced the Jews of the 1st Israel, as being appointed by God in the reverting back to the Elder Line of Abraham back going once again to the First Born; Ishmael, which happened after the Jews killed Lord Jesus in the position of Isaac, Abraham's Second Born Son.
Thus Mohammed represented Ishmael, in his Ascension over Jerusalem and Mt. Moriah, as the place of the Rock in Zion in the Night of Power, as Jesus had represented Isaac as the Bridegroom. But the Lamb was called the Sacrificial Lamb by John the Baptist first of all, as in echoing Isaac, from Isaiah 42:2:
“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul delights.
I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry out or raise His voice, Nor make His voice heard in the street….”
Again this is repeated in Matthew, 12:19,
“…He shall not contend, nor cry out, neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets…..”
◊
But this is mentioned because Isaac went with Abraham even when it was quite clear to him that Abraham planned to sacrifice him on the Altar. And Isaac did not struggle, nor try to escape, and was bound without protest. Just like my Father Lord Jesus; he went without protest……
“…..He raised not his voice in the street, but went like a lamb to the slaughter…”
Isaac had also said not a word, even after Abraham tied him to the Altar. Thus the Altar was a sign of the Cross, and the ram caught by his horns that Isaac and Abraham sacrificed instead resembles the “one who wore a “crown of thorns”.
But the problem for the elders of Judah was that in killing Lord Jesus in the position of the Bridegroom we end up with no Isaac: and without Isaac, there could be no Jacob, and thus: no Israel. That is why at the Table, in the Qur’an, it says that anyone who kills a single man it is as if they killed all of mankind. Thus they had actually erased the entire Nation of the 12 Tribes of Israel from the book of life.
This is what my Father really meant when he said
“…Forgive them Father: they know not what they do…”
◊
The Coming of the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
“…For thy Maker is thine husband,
Jehovah of hosts is his name;
and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel:
The God of the Whole Earth shall He be called….”
Isaiah 54:5
.
It is the arrival of the Lady of the Lake of Fire: which shall confound this world
The Sufis, Sayed Idries Shah, and the Design of Providence:
Ibn El-Arabi and the first Real Unificationists.
=====================================
The Lovers of God, the Rose of Sharon,
and the fallen Wisdom of Solomon
====================================
But this knowledge of the widening levels of the Providence was known not just to the Druse; but also once again also to the Sufis; as Sayed Idries Shah makes mention of the same doctrine in what is called “the system” and the technical terms taught in “the school”; as the analogy of the vine and the grapes.
This section can be found in his book “The Sufis” on page 296,
which was published in 1964:
a year before Rev. Moon came to America,
quoting from Lt. Colonel Wilberforce Clarke, an English Sufi.
◊◊◊
The book is called the
“….Awarif el-Maarif….”
( ….‘Gifts of [ Deep } Knowledge’… )
—-written in the 13th century,
and studied by the members of all the orders;
and certainly the 4 Major Orders.
He writes about the parallel Sufic lore to that of the first Assemblies from the 1st and 4th Caliphs after Mohammed; which sees Sufism as a continuum, and as Clarke recorded, used the “wine” allegory to show the gradual development of the Teaching until it became a more or less public manifestation; before retreating back into the Tariks in the 17th century: until now. To wit ( page 296 ),
◊
“This is expressed thus:
◊
“…The seed of Sufism
◊
….was sown in the time of Adam
◊
…..germinated in the time of Noah
◊
…..budded in the time of Abraham,
◊
…..began to develop in the time of Moses
◊
…..reached maturity in the time of Jesus
◊
….produced pure wine in the time of Mohammed….”
◊
This a rather clear indication the 7 levels of the Providence were studied quite closely; long before Sun Myung Moon arrived and claimed “he alone” knew of the 7 levels of the Providence of Salvation. But he did write more knowledgably about the Providence than any man before him, as my Father said of Moon, even as he had once said of John,
“…….Of men born of women, there has not arisen a greater prophet than Rev. Moon:
yet he who is the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he….”
===================
That would be me: the least and the last: in the Kingdom. But I didn’t plan this: it just happened.

Quote
In the early 1960s, Andy Warhol declared war on the academy by promulgating pop art--the idea that comics, commercial labels, and industrial logos were as worthy of being considered art as any painting or sculpture. This new "art movement" was applauded by a philistine culture that had long felt insulted and browbeaten by the sort of cultural elites who summered in Paris and embraced difficult European abstraction and radical avant-gardism. Warhol's announcement had strong repercussions in the halls of power, where the bohemian affection for European modernism was already a hot topic in the intelligence community. Art was considered to represent one of the main ideological battlefronts in the capitalist war against social equity. Postwar emancipation movements, inspired by the work of Alexander Rodchenko and bankrolled by the Soviets, simmered in Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia. Therefore avant-art--seen as a highly influential area dominated by the left and possessing a potential to wreak international havoc on willingness to cooperate with imperialist world domination--was aggressively co-opted by the ruling class. Cultural institutions in war-torn Western Europe were infiltrated, and soon most of the region's art magazines were CIA fronts, with many art critics and artists enjoying the largesse of the agency's payroll--whether they knew it or not (the money was often diverted through "legitimate" art-world sources). In their attempt to counter the USSR's influence over the leftist artist class, the "company" fostered abstract expressionism, which was USA's apolitical, "spiritual" version of Euro-style nonrepresentational sculpture and painting. Still, it was just a New World version of Slavic modernism. It was not a game changer. Pop art, however, was. Once announced, pop was a huge relief to the spooks in government who had been assigned to fixing the fine-art game. Since pop had distinctly American roots, no longer was the US artist a pretender, a stepchild, or an also-ran. And with pop, Warhol cemented New York City's claim to being the center of the postwar art world. As opposed to modernism's perceived difficulties and abstract expressionism's supposed mysticism, pop art was immediately understandable, witty, and inclusive. Snobby Europeans had long thought of the USA as a cultural trash heap, and pop art declared that, yes, it was true--and that the trash was in fact beautiful. Pop art was really a renamed, high-priced institutionalization of the gay world's camp aesthetic, the send-up of mundane vulgarity that was popular with the homosexual subculture. Camp was a vague and esoteric ideology that guffawed at emotional involvement or any sort of seriousness and that prized the garish and naive. Camp was infatuated with comic-strip villains, artifice, and all the ridiculous vestiges of an idiot culture. And comics, originally the newspaper industry's snare for illiterates and morons, were at the forefront of pop. Pop art was a massive success, inspiring fashion trends and TV series such as Batman and The Green Hornet. The theme to Batman even became a monster hit in the mid-'60s, with several charting versions. Brigitte Bardot had her own pop art anthem with Serge Gainsbourg. It was called "Comic Strip," and it featured a chorus of spoken comic-book sound effects. The effeminate mod movement's premier rock 'n' roll band, The Who, declared themselves a pop-art group, saying, "We're not just pop art on stage, but pop art all the time." Fellow mod group Creation penned a song entitled "Biff, Bang, Pow" and soul singer Gate Wesley recorded a song called "(Zap! Pow!) Do the Batman." Pop art could be said to be the most enduring visual aesthetic of the 1960s. The new movement permeated graphic design and fashion as well as music and TV. It was via pop art--and then broader pop culture--that comics evolved from their larval, Neanderthal origins and were thrust into the world of middlebrow tastes, high powered rock 'n' roll, and sophisticated sexuality. It was no longer an embarrassment for a self-respecting aesthete to be seen reading Brenda Starr. Instead, it became a signifier of a modern sensibility. Marshall McLuhan championed the comic as a "cool" medium. But let us not forget that at the roots of modern comics lie pop, and at the roots of pop lie camp, which is the little-discussed ancestor of comics as we know them today. As readers of contemporary comics, we owe much to the camp movement. It gave us license to consume comics. It moved the comic out of the closet. But how did camp come about? To answer that question, we must briefly trace the history of homosexuality. And to do that, we must travel back to the time just immediately after prehistory. This era, before the ascent of Christianity, is known today as antiquity. The people of antiquity--both those who were ignorant of Christ and those who lived before his time--were pagans. In their world, antiques were everywhere. So was sex. There was no TV, no rock groups, no internet. People would spend their time mashing grapes, picking figs and olives, weaving, staring at the stars, telling stories, and fornicating. The last was the easiest of all these endeavors. Therefore, people did it a lot, not only with one another but also with any available animal or object. Men, women, goats, sheep, chickens, children, cats, vegetables, great white mares--anything at all was considered fair game. Since ancient man lived with beasts, he witnessed the brutality and caprice of the animal world's sex play, and so the pagan's fantasy life was lousy with centaurs, satyrs, and were-things--the imagined offspring of the everyday carnal encounters between man, mammal, fish, and fowl. And since humans implicated every living creature within their polymorphously perverse web of nonstop coitus, they imagined that all creatures were spending their time similarly, and so they theorized hybrids like the sea-goat, the unicorn, Pegasus, and the hippogriff. The gods themselves were said to have the heads of beasts on human bodies, as evidenced in Anubis, Bast, Ganesha, and more. It was a violent, erotically charged landscape. Few records exist of this time, as people were too tired to write anything down, and what was written down was later destroyed by sex-loathing Christians who feared its power to tantalize the masses. Pagans engaged in sex with one another as well, regardless of the similarity of their genitals or the dissimilarity of their ages. Their morality was of an order now lost to us because in a pantheistic culture such as theirs, there are several gods, who were thought to live in a society that paralleled that of the people. Each god had distinguishing strengths and foibles, and since the pagan's gods were of varied proclivities, humans' diverse inclinations were tolerated by other humans. There was also no central religious authority, but instead many diverse temples consecrated to different deities, each one with a particular perversion. The ancient world eventually came to feature a handful of monotheistic religions, but they were wildly unpopular and notorious for their self-righteous making of rules. Instead of several gods with different personalities and myths, monotheism featured one god who was a fearful, faceless abstraction. There was the Persian cult of Zoroaster, the ancient Egyptian cult of Aten, and the Jewish cult of Jehovah, which had deviant offshoot sects of its own. One of these was called Christianity. Religion was central to the lives of the ancients just as television and comics and the internet are to us now. The emperors and kings of the time therefore tended to rule in tandem, or at least at the pleasure of the various deities. Egyptian pharaohs were divine themselves, as was Alexander the Great. But Roman emperors were merely semi-divine, enjoying divinity for a few ceremonial hours at a time. Rome was, of course, the great power for several centuries preceding what we call the "Dark" or "Middle" Ages. After extraordinary expansion, the Roman Empire was thinned and weakened by its many foreign occupations. Conquest was easily accomplished, but maintaining rule over the wilder tribes--the Germanic people and the various Goths--was difficult. As Rome incorporated various and sundry cultures, its leadership recognized monotheistic religion for what it is: a useful tool in teaching fealty to a central authority. Christians, unlike religious pagans, were absolutely intolerant of difference in belief and ideology. Their morality was unequivocal and emanated from a central source. They had only one god, who was humorless and had no face, name, characteristics, or identity. He was simply a force who punished those unwilling to submit to his will. Not only would the institutionalization of such a religion yoke new subjects to a foreign imperial dictatorship, but next to such a horrible master as God, the emperor would appear sympathetic--the good cop in a fearsome power-sharing duo. The plan worked for a time. The Romans couldn't have imagined just how thorough the Christians would be in their despotism. The Roman Empire, known for such practices as decimation, seemed milquetoast next to the barbarity, repression, and lunatic perversions of the Christian church. The Christians outlawed everyday behavior, pathologized it, classified it, and criminalized it. Eventually everyone was labeled a pervert or a scoundrel of some sort. Kinks were the major source of revenue for the Catholic Church, as each acolyte was compelled to compensate an angry God with alms and penance for their acts of sodomy, their wet dreams, or their erect nipples. Sex, the original universal pastime, was recast as an outlaw affair. Which brings us relatively close to the present day. Due to centuries of Christian socializing, sex in the Western world is now impossible to conceive of without some imagined transgression involved. The population invents intricate systems and obstacles to facilitate hard-to-get erections. Affairs, ogling, pornography, and prudishness are a few. Homosexuality is another. In the past, homosexuals, being an illegal minority, had to go underground. There they developed a highly sophisticated system of codes through which to speak to one another--not unlike Freemasons or needle freaks. One of these codes, particularly prevalent in theater productions and musicals, was the camp aesthetic. Camp made fun of cheap morality and emotions and was a survival tactic for the gay people who had to endure stultifying Christian hegemony. When Warhol announced camp, under the new banner of pop, as a new art movement and fashion trend, its die-hard adherents must have winced privately, though their camp ideology would have prohibited them from expressing anything more than a bon mot, perfectly delivered with blasé contempt. A keystone of camp is that nothing is to be taken seriously. It prohibits intellectual--and, even more so, political--thought. Susan Sontag followed up Warhol's dissemination with an essay, "Notes on Camp," which let the intellectuals know that camp was it, trash was fun, and high culture wasn't cool anymore. With this pronouncement, the USSR's Schroeder-esque (Schroeder as in Charlie Brown's aggressively classicist piano-playing pal) "high art for the masses" program, which had appeared extremely progressive in the '50s, suddenly seemed hopelessly fuddy-duddy. When Warhol declared the ascendancy of pop art he probably didn't realize that he would contribute to the decloseting of millions of adult goons who had been reading comics in secret. Now they read them proudly in public, the way people once read Dostoyevsky, and they eventually would be allowed to pin them to the walls of the Whitney and Guggenheim museums in NYC. Most films produced by Hollywood are now adaptations of comics--either traditional superhero fables or so-called underground misanthropy. Ironically, the genesis of the comic was the sort of drawing featured on the walls and stained glass of Christian churches, which used pictures to instruct the illiterate on moral and pious behavior. And when capitalism displaced Christianity as the West's religion, comics were utilized in a similar way to instruct the peasants in gender roles, patriotism, and justice, all through characters such as Superman. When the middle class was signaled by Warhol to consume--and then eventually produce--comics unabashedly, camp's pop deconstruction of the comic informed its new life, as did a camp sensibility of subcultural esoteric elitism. Thus began the era of underground comics. Underground comics, rather than being lessons in ideology for poor people, reflected a new morality--that of the privileged "creative class." Louche degeneracy, contempt for humanity, self-centred navel-gazing, and existentialism were the characteristics of the generation of comic artists spawned by the camp revolution. The new comics were individualist in the extreme: often autobiographical bouts of narcissism disguised as self-loathing confessionals. But central to camp ideology was anti-seriousness, and therefore an anti-art attitude. Similarly, Art School Confidential by superstar comic artist Daniel Clowes neatly sums up the attitude of the cartoonist toward the perceived idiocy and pretentiousness of the art world. The new cartoonist-identity was that of an outsider, ignored or actively persecuted, victim of the art establishment and the mores of bourgeois culture. This was a profound re-assignation--since the denizens of the high-art world had historically laid claim to a similar self-image, and since comics were of course the ultimate populist mass-media art form. Underground comics have grown from their sordid and combative camp-inspired origins into a respectable industry. They have shed many of their initial gay-inherited affectations such as outrageousness, vulgarity, and hatred for all mankind. Now they typically resemble something more akin to the gentle post-hippie craft-ism of the middle-class do-gooder. The paper is archival and the drawings tend toward Zen inksmanship. The stories are often about relationships. Form trumps content. The comic, instead of being a campy launchpad from which to lacerate humanity, is held in high regard as a sacred institution, with the forebears of comicdom being revered as heroic themselves (just look at Crumb and his Bible stories). But we know that burning within this serene, highly personal, self-referential, and contented exterior is the contemptuous, reactionary bitchiness of pop, the movement that--by rehabilitating American capitalism for the world via art--not only liberated us from straining our brains but also helped vanquish human movements for social justice forever. ZAP! BLAM! POW!

Welcome a flood of transubstantiation
PRINCE: Inside The Music and The Masks by Ronin Ro.
Cover Review: Check out the crucial use of Pantone Purple spot-color Offset, printed to heavenly standards on ultra-matte Shark Skin premium paper. A tactile treasure with a sandy-soft feel, this next-level stock is a mastery of texture. Crack the perfect binding and you'll find your soul complete. Beyond iconic, this illustrated cover bears a photo from the musician's Parade era, transfixed with beatific vision. A magnetic mannequin, Prince looks on, frozen, serene as porcelain: a Byronic duotone Christ come to avenge funk, soul, rock and roll with a caliber of FULL-FACE-Faggotry unseen since Little Richard's retreat to the closet.
Riveting as it is informative, the book contents reveal clear, concise storytelling and musical criticism that read as fast as Mr(s) Prince Rogers Nelson could lick his guitar.
However...
The author, Ronin Ro, glosses over the profound gender expressionism of The Star. Barely mentioned—and deeply misinterpreted—is Prince’s mysteriously scrapped album: Camille, concepted + recorded from his divinely-developed feminine persona. Ro falls in with the bros at Warner Music—who resisted the record—reducing The Artists' composition to a simple, silly matter of "sped up vocals." Over and over, Ro commits to butching up the Queenly King of Sound, frequently excusing the artist's high heels and costuming with some variant of the "Chicks Dig It, Man" defense. Ew! Bret Michaels, Prince was not.

I relent. Ro is a wonderfully compelling journalist, fully illustrating Prince’s struggle to create boundary-free music for a culture deep in the trenches of sublimated segregation. A measly two decades after Vietnam and the Civil Rights creshendo, the 1980s brought on a pretense of post-racial “We Are The World” missionary colonialism, while radio-waves and neighborhoods remained divided. Prince united audiences, and set the standard to top every chart. With fairness, Ro gives ink to the anti-gay tensions rife throughout the artist's early tour with Rick James, among others. Of note: Run-DMC + LL Cool J’s impatience for the brilliance of Shiela E.’s stiletto-pounding percussive performances. Most puzzling: Prince’s bitter quest to “elevate” rap. The road to progress is always problematic.
After the label's bid to censor Camille, the material streamed into a proposed triple album, Crystal Ball, which then evolved into the live opera, Glam Slam Ulysses, co-written by David Henry Hwang—author of the Tony Award winning ode to genderfuck: M. Butterfly. Other tracks found their way into 1987's Sign o’ The Times, and 1994's Come.
(Ed Note, The Scribbler departs from Ronin Ro’s Scholarship hereon.)
Looking past behind-the-times executives, it's possible Prince recognized he need not apply post-production tricks to access his innate force of womanhood. No one can deny, Prince has always been the master of Pitch-Play. And a respectful one at that. As his falsetto fails him during the production of 1991's Diamonds and Pearls, Prince bows to a more able avatar—gospel resounding through the pure kthonic power of Rosie Gaines, on the title track she belts: LOVE IS THE MASTER PLAN.
The holy unity of female & male iconography is inextricable from Prince's work. Beyond the binary, gender metamorphosis is concentrated in the esoteric Love Symbol.
Love Symbol Design Evolution 1984-1994 | Vintage Press Release: “From now on, Prince will be referred to as O+>, the combination symbol for male + female which also served as the title for his most recent multiplatinum album.”
Prince famously changed his name to this unpronounceable (and unspeakable) icon Logographic in attempt to cut ties with his oppressive record label—the slick scoundrels at Warner Brothers trademarked his birth name, a brutal denial of the singer's independence and autonomy. As such, they had right to stifle his insurmountable body of work. Unfortunately, this kind of spiritual and legal robbery is common in the entertainment industry, with a long line from Louis B. Mayer's systematic drugging of Judy Garland, to Phil Spector's "motivational" gun-point murders, to Harvey Weinstein's strong-arming of everyone from Rose McGowan to Gwyneth Goop to HRH Winslet. Occam's Razor: not limited to unfamous "little people" like Geri Santoro and Sandra Bland, it happens on the A-List too.
I digress!—The name-change was a move made with much more significance than we can allot to a legal loophole alone. For The Purple One had reached at a point of no return—after 13 albums, several film projects, and a list of successful associated acts longer than Leviathan: he achieved artistic apotheosis. Exceeding the limits of time and space, fusion with his work was total. "I am music," He professed.
Later in life, He reclaimed His given name, but the Symbol would persist.
Watch, listen, learn while Larry King asks the tough questions with all the finesse of a drunk bus driver in this cryptic 1999 interview with The Star.

Prince's religious thesis was unique til the end, defying typical theology. A lifelong Christian and latter-day Jehovah's Witness: he would never abandon the sacred, ancient act of gender bending. Prince practiced a particular brand of find-Jesus-through-sex, and sang about it in just about every song. In a 2016 New York Times article, Touré quotes The Artist’s longtime manager, Alan Leeds: “For him the love of God and the sexual urges we feel are one and the same somehow…it all comes from the same root inside a human being. God planted these urges and it’s never wrong to feel that way. The urge itself is a holy urge.” Slain!

Ever mystic, Prince hid this truth in plain sight as early as 1984, with the hypnotic, backward-looped choral-coda of his naughtiest: “Darling Nikki”. Notably, this very verse disturbed the indefensible Tipper Gore to her rotten core, prompting the construction of the Left Wing's bridge to the fascist Right with censorial "Explicit Content" stickers. (This here Writer-Witch wagers: it was YOU, Nasty Tip, who insidiously inspired the long line of liberal permissiveness for policed language, art, and thought. A policed future is a miserable one!) Tipper, of course, heard a voice that commanded submission to Satanic impulses; a testimony this scribbler will not refute—as Gore clearly has a direct line to Hell.
But Tipper isn’t always wrong. The Artist had been undeniably debauched, as rock stardom brings externalized sexual fulfillment. With sensual solipsism, a committed journey inward would present the next glorious level of consciousness.
Prince believed the most sanctified of marriages were the utterly hidden and impenetrable ones; deep within the psyche, where our feminine & masculine selves find one another, spilling into harmonious, free-form unity. Brain, Body, Unlimited Identity: ascending into One. To Him, this Heavenly clash was transcendence itself, and the sole means of creative (read: immaculate) conception.

Duality gets extreme play in the soundtrack for Tim Burton's Batman. In an accompanying full-length MTV film, mutable morality and polychrome identity climax in the final number, “Batdance”, with an elaborate, double-cast of characters. Morphing from frame to frame, a circus of Batmen face-off against a chorus of Jokerwomen, who then splash over to the other side of the gender spectrum: and vice versa. IF ONLY the rest of us could transition by aid of ultraviolet light and sfumato fog alone!

Prince’s most potent confessions dazzle in the music video for Parade’s “Kiss”, where The Artist dances with a cloaked feminine form, his teasing Anima. Supreme, slippery and thriving: she demands relentless creativity and cunning to be reached. The elusive, sheer-sheathed companion is The Artists' shadow-self in spiked pointe shoes: subconscious, thus sacrosanct, able to travel back and forth to the underworld, retrieving every secret. A delightful game that is always worth it, should one have the strength. In all, Prince brings these sanctified truths to full-fruition in four minutes. For Carl Jung, the credited cartographer of the Anima-animus concept, it would take decades of digging—from his belly button to his brain—to make any coherence of this theory.
Film Still, “Kiss” directed by Rebecca Blake, 1986. Prince’s Shadow-Woman, La Qué Sabe, played by dance legend Monique Mannen.
The Artist eventually found the externalization of this psyche-symbol in the form of Mayte Garcia, a thriving antecedent to the static Kim Kardashian—and author of the official tell-all, The Most Beautiful.
Introduced to the prodigy when she was just 16, Prince was staggered by Garcia’s ecstatic ballet-belly dancing: idealized supernatural fantasy made corporeal.
Like purple, red, and gold mercury—the pair would go on to perform with the unrepentant tenacity of crushing-creative love—a mind-blending, otherworldly mirror-dance unseen or heard of since Ovid's tale of Salmacis & Hermaphroditus. Prince + Mayte’s ending, however was less happy than the total unity of classical literature's Queer, river-bound lovers.
In 1996, the momentary joy of their son’s birth would be followed by a mysterious death six days later. Do yourself a favor and NEVER watch the Oprah interview where they show a unified front—clenching tears, claiming their child is alive. We are still sobbing.

Proving that even the most sacred of Pop Culture Saints are subject to fallibility, Prince burned every single one of the possessions he and Garcia procured for their lost child. A divorce and gag-order on his wife soon followed.
Now, with Prince’s untimely death, Mayte is finally allowed the last word: “My whole body felt taken over with rage. It felt hot and toxic and lasted for a long, long time…I would never get over him,” she explains in her book, a hardback Pietà. Still, she moved on. While Prince would create until his last, painful day, little of his output would have the impact of Mayte’s behind-the-scenes work. Agency to the core: in the new millennium, Garcia snatched the chance to play puppeteer, offering a spell of choreography to Britney Spears’ turning-point production, “I’m A Slave 4 U”. With Mayte’s help, Princess takes King of Kings. Dearest Prince, Rest in Perfection.
