Note
8, 13, and 29 for the movie ask game! :D
8. Where did you find movie recommandations?
I'm sorry this is probably not the answer you wanted but by talking with friends and colleagues. Lately I've been told I should watch Teen Beach Movie (by Jeffrey Hornaday) and Golden Eighties (by Chantal Akerman). I love that these are both how people see me.
Also my boyfriend is a huge movie buff so almost every evening he tells me what he's going to watch and I can decide if I'm interested to watch with him or not. We love discovering classic and/or asian movies together !
13. What was your favorite non-Hollywood movie you saw ?
I guess it's a tie between Jawan (by Atlee) and Twilight of the Warriors : Walled In (by Soy Cheang) !
29. What classic movie(s) did you watch for the first time this year ?
Where does "classic" starts and where does it end ? Those felt classic to me :
Labyrinth, 1986 (loved it)
Pather Panchali, 1955 (was a bit long but interesting, need to watch the rest of the serie)
Chungking Express, 1994 (meh, it's one of my best friend's favourite movie she still hates me for not liking it)
The Prestige, 2006 (watching it was ok, and then the more I thought about it and about Nolan the more I hated them both)
Old Boy, 2003 (great, I wish plot twists weren't so easy to predict to me)
Sherlock Jr., 1924 (love me some Buster Keaton)
Burlesque, 2010 (I understand, if you're 12. But my friend who showed me this was wrong : they are not the most beautiful pretty princesses ever. Bonus points for Cher, Stanley Tucci and Alan Cumming.)
Bay of Angels, 1963 (so close, but the rythm is off. Sorry Jacques and Michel, I promise I do not love you less for this)
Le Sabotier du Val de Loire, 1956 (one of Demy's first ever movie. Made me emotional. It's simple and beautiful just like I like it.)
Model Shop, 1969 (yes I went and watched half Demy's filmography this year. I think I didn't like the american setting in that one. It felt wrong, sorry)
The Red Shoes, 1948 (love love love give me more surreal fairy tales movie like this or Donkey Skin or Beauty and the Beast)
The Old Gun, 1975 (probably one of my favourite movies from this year. So beautiful, so emotional. The people asks for Philippe Noiret tricking nazis Home Alone style in his castle in southern France to finally use a flamethrower on them, and the people shall receive)
The Band Wagon, 1953 (sadly don't have much memories from it. I do like Fred Astaire but all of his movies get mixed up in my brain)
Meet Me in St Louis, 1944 (CLANG CLANG CLANG WENT THE TROLLEYYYYYY)
Marius, 1931 (just feels like home, I love Marcel Pagnol so much)
Does Point Break count ? That was fun
Red Sun, 1971 (how can you get the most perfect casting and the most amazing plot and end up with such a boring movie is beyond me)
Scarface, 1983 (I realise it is well made and well played, I also was bored out of my mind during the entire movie. If I hear the boys quote the French translation to each others one more time, I will lose it. Oyé sapapaya included.)
Alien, 1979 (great ! I wish I would have liked it more, but I still had a really good time)
Cinderella, 1997 (fairy godmother Whitney Houston was one of the hightlights of my year. Also Paolo Montalbán. Sorry I'm just a girl.)
Charade, 1963 (cute ! Bit long, very funny, Audrey Hepburn my love)
(500) Days of Summer, 2009 (I understand why people might love it. It's great, didn't touch me as much though)
Same Old Song, 1997 (frustrating and disappointing, but fun concept and great casting)
Nosferatu the Vampyre, 1979 (looooved it. Thank you yet again for your hard work Herr Herzog)
Thank you for asking !! ❤️

Note
The choreographer for the music video for 'Say Say Say' was Jeffrey Hornaday, who choreographed Flashdance (1983).
"His name is Paul. He works in a man's world. He dances in a world of his dreams..."
A reimagined Flashdance fic, with Paul as the coil winder by day / dancer by night, wearing an off-the-shoulder sweater and forging a new life for himself through steamy workouts and an 80s soundtrack.

Blurb: Life’s a beach for surfers Brady and McKenzie...until a rogue wave magically transports them inside the classic ‘60s party flick Wet Side Story, where a full-blown rivalry between bikers and surfers threatens to erupt. There, amidst a sea of surfing, singing, and dancing, Brady and Mack accidentally change the storyline, and the film’s dreamy hero and heroine fall for them instead of each other. Can Brady and Mack get the plot back on track, or will they be trapped there forever?

Film geek Josh is looking for the subject of his new documentary when a chance meeting puts the perfect star in his sights—Dylan, his school’s most popular junior. But Dylan’s hopes of using the film to become Blossom Queen don’t quite match with Josh’s goal to make a hard-hitting exposé about popularity. Shapiro Casting: Jason La Padura Director of Photography: Robert Brinkmann Co-Producer: Brian Zeilinger-Goode Visual Effects Supervisor: Dan Schmit Supervising Sound Editor: Mark Friedgen Costume Design: Rebekka Sorensen Movie Reviews: Reno: **Student film festival meets beauty pageant.** I’m one of those guys who does not believe chick films are for girls alone, actions are for men, as well as magic films for kids. I watch them all, well, at least I admit that. So, not in my childhood, but overall I’ve seen many DCOM and I’ve liked many of them. This film came half a decade ago, I was aware of it, but only now I had watched it and it got me by surprise. I thought it would me another mean girl tale, that’s where I was wrong. Well, in the initial few minutes, that’s how it looked, but everything has changed since the beginning of the second act. That was the biggest plus point of this film. Even though predictable scenes, still it felt good enough. The character transformation, the way it was done was very smart. At one stage you hate, then a soft corner develops. It is a television film, but that’s not how it looked. The quality of the story was like a theatrical film. If they had risked on that, they definitely would have succeeded. I would say a bad decision by the production house, but still the product delivered more than its expectation. The casting was good, All of them were new face to me, except Sasha Pieterse. Expecting a sequel for a good/successful film is so common with its fans. I thought about the same, but seems they are not interesting in one which was kind of confirmed in the end itself. Even though if they decide to make, it won’t be as good as this one. Because the main story, all happened in here. Just like ‘Taken’ which is very powerful original film, not suitable for followups. This is a silly concept, but very nice film. I totally suggest it. _8/10_
