OHO???? Writing prompts? Then I send one in for my most beloved Jedrek, perhaps the mc is enraptured with how he appears in photos(they.....have some form of camera right? I assumed so with the magitech and what its capable of in this game), even outside of the little reporting work they do, so more often than not they end up staring at him like hes a piece of art- maybe this happens so often the mc spaces out- a vague prompt but I figure u can work more with this since im giving a specific interest for this prompt

Also they do have matech! The exact design of the camera is still being workshopped but I'm kinda imagining it having steampunk type vibes!

At first, you'd only kept the photograph to remember his face. So that even when your mind forcefully forgot his name, his gravelly voice, or the feeling of his hands brushing against your throat every time he wanted to remind you what he was capable of, you'd always remember what he looked like. It was never meant to be anything more than that, a preventative measure to protect yourself from the monster of a man who you'd come to… collaborate with. 

Yet, as you stare at the Polaroid like picture, tentatively perched between two fingers, you can't explain the feeling that curses you. For what should horrify you to your core, what in fact already horrifies the nation every time they see one of your articles, instead you find it hauntingly beautiful. The way he postures, ready to pounce on his victim, how the moonlight catches his hair to reflect an opalescent glow, how his pointed teeth bare in his cruel smile… it's artistic in a way.

Though, whether it's your own talent or the subject of your lens that you admire, is not something you find easy to answer. 

Your eyes flit between the photo and the almost perfect recreation of the scene that unfolds before you until the photo is no longer sufficient, your gaze completely entranced by the killer. You barely even notice the prey, their screams just a background noise at this point. You wonder, what scene must Jedrek be showing the helpless victim for his ruby eyes to gleam so brightly, to render him so full of delight that his pale cheeks flush in satisfaction, as his teeth bare, poised and ready to take his prize at the perfect moment.

You know you should take be taking pictures right now, but you can't bring yourself to trigger the camera; you're too lost in the terrifying beauty of it all. 

“Am I boring you, Kitten?” The gravelly breath against your ear breaks you from your daydream, and your senses are overwhelmed by the metallic smell as your space is completely invaded by the subject of your thoughts. Though his crimson stained lips curve into a smile, you can tell, for having been the one to capture his every expression, that he isn't happy.

“I was just distracted, trying to decide the right shot to take for tomorrow's edition.” You know he can hear that slight jump in the pace of your heartbeat when you lie, you know that he is almost breathing in the signs of your attempt at deceit, as is his nature, but you still try regardless. 

“I'm sure I gave you plenty, yet I didn't see you use that device of yours once.” Fingers against your jaw force you to look at him, and your breath can't help but hitch the same way it did when you first met. Every fibre of your being tells you to run, that he's dangerous, yet it's exactly that same part of you that thinks he's dazzling. A long, sharp finger trails down the artery in your throat. “Now, what exactly were you thinking? Oh, and I wouldn't lie to me again. Your heart always gives you away.”

“You're like a piece of art–” your words bubble out before you could even attempt to stop them, and you can't help but curse yourself for it. 

Unexpectedly, instead of teeth ripping through your throat like you'd braced for, it's laughter that tears through the air. 

“Jed?” Your voice ripe with disbelief, you daringly question the man who cackles with pure joy at your answer. 

Before you can react, his arms enclose you against the wall, the stone scratching at any exposed skin on your back, and he gives no opening for escape. His whole body casts yours in shadow, as if he suddenly grows several feet, and the only light that highlights you both is the ravenous glow of hellfire in his eyes. 

“You are such a strange one, I'm starting to think you're not half as afraid of me as you should be. Maybe I should rectify that.” 

“No!” Your voice comes out embarrassingly strangled. You've seen what he's capable of, and you had no desire to be on the receiving end, even if you did seem to have a tendency to enjoy watching the show. “I know exactly how scared I should be.”

“Ah that's the key word, should. You should be scared of me, but instead, I don't think you'd complain if I was to make you scream.” 

“No… that…” Your mind scrambles over the innuendo, trying to figure out whether he actually meant his implication or whether he was teasing you… again.

“Hm, turns out there's more ways other than fear I can use to make your heart race Kitten. How fun.” He seems delighted at the fact; he did always love something new and entertaining. “What else could I do to make it jump for me?” Fingers whisper against your shoulders, down your arms, interlocking with your own… and pinning your hands above your head. His grip is inhumanely strong, and no matter how much or little you struggle, it does nothing but appear to amuse him. “What if I was to do this?” His low voice somehow drops further as he leans in to brush just against the lobe of your ear. “You wouldn't know if I was going to make you relive every nightmare you've ever had,” whilst one hand remains to restrain your own, the other thumb runs against your lower lip. You can taste the iron stain left in his wake. “Or if I was going to kiss you.” He laughs, deep and low, “though who says I can't do both. Pleasure and pain both sound fun, don't they?” 

“Yet you do neither.” You gulp with whatever stupid bravado you decide to muster. Why are you so reckless? Did your sense of self-preservation just decide to go off on a holiday? Or are you just an idiot–

“I don't think you could handle it, and I'd hate for you to break too quickly.” His hand finds purchase over your throat, applying a warning amount of pressure.

“I'm not scared of you, Jedrek.” 

“You should be.”

Rules: list the meanings of your OCs’ names.

Okay, so I spend an absurd about of time finding the names for my characters that have the right sound and meaning. There are some stories I intentionally didn't do this with (The Elker Rex being one).

So here are the names and meanings of the main characters from The Shadow of Vale.

Aaron/Zuriel - Exalted or strong. Mountain of Strength. / The Lord and My Rock.

Ray / Halvar - Wise protector / Guardian of the rock.

Aila - Bringer of light or from the strong place.

Agur - Stranger, gathered together or Collector, gatherer.

Cyrus - Sun.

Samael - Venom or poison of God. In lore a figure who is the accuser or adversary (Satan as mentioned in the book of Job).

Jedrek - A strong man/ Warrior

Michael - Who is like God? (name of archangel. Patron saint of soldiers)

And a few of the more minor characters whose names I still picked carefully:

Chiron - Skilled with hands.

Rafael- God has healed.

Lonan - Blackbird or cloud.

Tovi - Goodness of God.

and of course while not a direct character, the basically deified nymph who built Vale:

Abner - Father of light.

OC-tober But I Have No Prompts And Just Do Whatever I Want: Day 6

VERY LONG POST (if you're just here for the art you don't have to read below the cut)

Magikos plot and lore! I didn't get very far in the original production because it was made to be a cartoon series and all that remains outside of that lost footage (I repeat: I DO NOT have it) and my fuzzy memory is the script for episode one and a handful of notes so enjoy my inconsistent rambling until we get to my ideas for the eventual rewrite.

I changed up Ravellois's design to align more with shape and color language since Magikos is meant to be visual. Round shapes to appear non-threatening and pastel pink and green to communicate a sweet and reserved personality. The stark black and white of her demon form contrasts with the warm browns and golds of her human form.

Original:

We open up on a meeting in a dark room where each of the attendees' faces is covered in shadow. The man in the military uniform at the head of the long table begins to monologue about the injustices those with inhuman adaptations face, shadow puppet/storybook style animations illustrate the narration. The man declares that "From now on, we will not call ourselves humans. We'll call ourselves..." followed by the title logo appearing onscreen (Magikos).

When the title screen fades away we're back in the meeting room, now with just military man (whose name is apparently Jedrek) and a gender ambiguous individual in a lab coat who questions Jedrek on his resolve. When he reaffirms his decision, they leave and lab coat gives the order to the guard at the door to "Prepare the misters. It's time."

The background music swells as we transition to the wordless sequence where the kill-humans-gas descends on various cities around the world, cutting to close-up scenes of people collapsing in the street, gas leaking under doors and wafting through broken windows, a woman washing dishes goes limp and her head bobs up and down in soapy water as her husband and child follow suit in the background. Two magikos in coveralls and face masks bust down the door and drag their bodies onto a pile of other corpses which they set on fire.

Zooming out, Jedrek watches the pyre on a screen from back in the base. Lab coat walks in and informs him that all the humans are dead.

Roll theme.

From there we join Ravellois as she wakes up and realizes that her city is a lot quieter than usual. Also, her parents are gone. Flashback to the night before when her parents grill her on her superiority as a demon and their expectations for her. Happily, Ravellois transforms into her human form and goes about her day. She's found by members of the magikos government, they're all "mysterious unattended child needs supervision" so one of them volunteers his family to foster her until they find her parents.

The rest of the episodes follow their adventures in going to school, practicing/learning to take advantage of their inhuman adaptations (with Ravellois vehemently denying hers), and interning(?) at the magikos government to put their skills to use until Ravellois's parents return in the season finale and she has to defeat them.

Magikos was originally a story about finding your people and becoming who you want to be regardless of others' expectations or what they made of you (hence the demon symbolism). Killing all the humans was framed as a good thing in the same way that cutting out toxic relationships or removing yourself from a bad situation is. Ravellois had to separate herself from those things so that she could start seeing being a demon as good and not shameful or painful. When she insists to everyone she meets that she's human and refuses to use her powers, they don't believe her but they also don't press her. She's allowed to take her time in opening up as the cast goes on episodic adventures that culminate into her parents returning at the end of the season and trying to take over the new magikos society. She fights them and wins thanks to her character growth and self-acceptance, earning her happy ending where her parents change their minds seeing how their daughter grew in their absence and they... just live? I guess? I was twelve, actually decent storytelling was a skill I had yet to build and unlike [Valerie's Story], I've left it the way it was all these years only occasionally thinking about it or drawing Ravellois for fun because I like her design.

Rewrite:

First off, Hidnight already deals with most of the themes of the original Magikos so we're not exactly scrapping it, but we are changing it significantly. Starting with the genocide. Yeah, that's no longer a "good" thing. Although, the injustice angle is quite interesting; especially when you consider the ranking system.

It wasn't a major point in gen 1 until the end when the cast needed to fight the two evil demons and nobody but Ravellois could (for both overpowered MC and symbolism reasons). There were five ranks known as stars.

Taken directly from my notes:

"One star magikos are the most common and/or the weakest. Cat, bear, and other animal hybrids are most often found here. Magikos with weak and/or useless abilities are also categorized here. Ex: color-changing eyes or uncannily able to find coins on the ground

"Two star magikos aren't found everywhere but they're still not rare by any means. They're also still pretty weak and basic in terms of abilities. Avians, butterflies, other animalistic physical differences, and abilities like walking on walls or healing minor cuts. Any physicalities that show you're a magikos are almost always low tier because they aren't that powerful.

"Three stars are the middle of the known scale. Usually referred to as rare. This includes classic "superhero" abilities like super strength and speed, laser eyes, and telekinesis. Plus mythical creatures like mermaids, unicorns, and dragons. This is also the common starting point for those who climb the ranks as they hone their skills.

"Four stars is the forces of nature tier. Elemental powers controlling fire, water, ice, the earth, lightning, etc. are very rare and powerful. Controlling the weather is even more rare.

"Fives stars is the highest tier on the known scale. VERY powerful. Like, few-hits-to-kill powerful. Hardly anyone has reached this rank by working and it is EXTREMELY rare to be born here. (AN: Lab coat was born here because they could essentially "hulk out" into a giant bat/wolf monster)

"Six and seven stars were added at the end of the series when everyone saw the awesome power of demons. Six was made specifically for Ravellois because she broke all their scales and seven was for her parents. Another reason why she was the only one who could defeat them. Impossible to be born in these tiers."

I'm thinking we keep the rankings mostly the same, but now seven doesn't exist and humans are included as zero stars. The secret society saw zero stars as a stain on their species and coined the term "magikos" as a way of separating themselves from the weakling humans. Zero stars, who make up 50% of the population, are wiped out and life is pretty good for a while. But who becomes the next target in the Hidden Renaissance's quest for a perfect world now that they've successfully gotten rid of the humans? Who's at the bottom now? The one stars. It isn't noticeable at first, but one stars begin being targeted by propaganda and dog whistles. Even the ones who helped in the human extermination and subsequent government takeover. They're not "magikos enough" anymore.

Ravellois is still a demon. She still hides that she is a demon and gives her human-sona a different name to avoid being found out: Nimeni. When she wakes up in the post-humans world, she is herded along with the other magikos to the broadcast explaining the new world order and afterwords is placed with a foster family of mainly four stars (same as before) who don't seem to care about the whole quiet genocide.

As she and the foster brother her age (13) attend school, she meets magikos of all types. When the anti-one star stuff gets heated, Ravellois joins in the fight against it to protect her friends. Somehow, they find out that she's a demon. And they're kinda upset about it. "You pretending to be human isn't helping anyone. You have the power to turn this around, so use it!" And in the end, she is a support for the one stars instead of their hero. We're also giving Ravellois anxiety. A shier personality will help set her apart from my other protagonists and she can learn about coping with stress and releasing herself from the unhealthy expectations that the society, even though it favors her, presses onto her.

I'm also thinking that this story could be specifically geared towards a younger audience. Despite Valerie starting her story at ten years old, that book isn't meant for ten year olds. It gets really dark in some places. Same goes for Hidnight. I don't know exactly the age demographic either of those are for so I'd like to experiment with a target audience that isn't just Me, Winvyre/Winvyre's unnamed civilian persona. Of course, it'll be a long time yet until I start any sort of serious work on Magikos G2, I just wanted to share some of my work beyond my two main WIPs!

Backstory. Vanda hat sich in der ersten Zeit nach ihrer Verwandlung von Tieren ernährt. Phil erzählt ihr, dass Sigismund gefangengenommen wurde, sie erzählt ihm, dass Marta bei Casimirs Leuten war.

Mehr Backstory. Als Vanda das Leid in dem KZ gesehen hat, in dem ihre Brüder gefangengehalten wurden, hat sie angefangen, Gefangene zu befreien und Nazis zu beißen und zu töten – so lange, bis Jedrek (noch einer von Casimirs Komplizen) sie erwischte und ihr drohte: entweder schließe sie sich den Malcontents an, die mit den Nazis zusammenarbeiteten, oder sie würden Karl umbringen, den Anführer des Widerstands. Sie hat ihn zum Teufel geschickt, also hat er Karl und ihr seine Werwölfe hinterhergeschickt, die Karl irgendwann vor ihren Augen erwischt und zerrissen haben. Vanda hat daraufhin immer weiter Nazis umgebracht und fühlt sich deshalb furchtbar, weil sie eine Mörderin ist.

„Das war im Krieg. Und du hast getan, was du tun musstest, um zu überleben.“ „Du glaubst nicht, dass ich ein Monster bin?“ „Nein. Ich denke, du bist eine unglaublich mutige und schöne Frau.“ Nie gefühlte Erleichterung durchflutete sie. Die schwere Last der Schuld und der Reue fiel von ihr ab.

Nee, is klar! Vanda trägt seit den 1930ern Trauma und Schuld mit sich herum, weil sie Leute umgebracht hat, aber kaum sagt Phil – der im Vergleich zu ihr eine siebenundzwanzigjährige Rotznase ist – zu ihr, dass sie ~🌸~hübs~🌸~ is, ist das alles vergessen und wieder gut. Heiliger Strohsack, ey.

Darauf erst mal ne Runde Sex.

…oder fünf bis zehn, nach denen Vanda allmählich müde wird (es wird hell). Phil wird sich demnächst auf den Weg zu Connor machen, denn Sigismund ist „transportbereit“ (er kriegt ohne sein Wissen nen Peilsender implantiert, damit er sie zu Casimir führt). Vorher kommt aber Brynley rein und freut sich wie ein Schnitzel, dass Phil ein Alpha ist. Das Rudel, mit dem sie unterwegs ist, ist nämlich ein Haufen Teenager, die gegen ihre Rudelführer rebelliert haben und wie Phil verstoßen wurden, und Phil soll ihr Alpha werden. Phil hat keine rechte Lust darauf, außerdem muss er ja erst mal einen Vampirkrieg führen. Brynley schickt ihn trotzdem zu den Jungs, damit sie in Ruhe mit Vanda reden kann.

OHHH I LOVE THESE QUESTIONS!

Okay!

1) Jeds fits - So kinda yes and no, so technically when you first meet him, he only has one fit ~~cause he's a dumbass /j~~ because his power almost let's him go unnoticed. So people can see him, and he often unnerves them, but once he is out of sight, they completely forget what he looks like, and he finds it fun unnerving people. BUT there is an option in his route to go and take him shopping and you can choose a new outfit for him to wear sometimes!

2) Hobbies - I mean his main hobby is murd--- he's an anatomy nerd and spends a lot of time reading these medical journals he's found! He likes collecting weird and wonderful stuff (think taxidermy, skulls etc. etc.) He also likes whittling/carving, but he is not very good at it, if you can figure out what the lump he's carved is meant to be you must have psychic powers 😂

3) Does he move a lot? - Surprisingly no! Because he doesn't leave any evidence and nobody knows or remembers who he is, he manages to get away with it. He was dormant for a very long time but... this time he's decided to test the spotlight to spread terror even further!
